Pretty nice to see that there is now a craft beer scene in Abbotsford. Parking is available in the gravel lot next to the building. The theme here seems to be purple. The inside looks a bit ghetto, but the building is a warehouse after all. Staff were friendly. To be honest, I didn't really like the beer too much here. Most of them were too sour for my taste. Some may really like this though. The thing that stuck out here is that fresh cans of beer can be purchased. By fresh I mean they fill an open can and seal it on the spot with this (German) vintage canning machine. Definitely brings up the street cred here. Very cool to watch. The cans themselves are a bit pricey though. Lastly, they have free popcorn to go with the beer. Tasty. read more

Great selection of some really interesting beers, like Beets by Steve, Gose down on the Gherk! Peanut butter jelly time! Steve keeps it fresh, always pushing the barriers. If you are heading west on Fraser Hwy it's easy to get in here, but east bound is a nightmare. Also when leaving, west is best as east is a beast!! Always enjoy stopping here for a beer. Friendly knowledgeable staff and a veritable plethora of styles to chose from. Be daring, tickle your taste buds, try something weird, not s bad beer behind any of those taps. So,they've been open a few years, and have always been 'average', to me. And I've been to ALOT of hole-in-the-wall breweries from all over the Lower Mainland BC to Montreal, Idaho, Montana, etc. to name a few. Beer quality is ok, but I'm also not a big fan of the 'Belgian style' of beer as they call it. Usually however I can find one I like (Coastal IPA for one). They also didn't change them up too often, and often always had the same ones. Another reviewer on here probably said it best: "20-some beers, and none of them great, Just OK". Anyway, in December 2017 they closed. Heard a bunch of rumours about defaulting on leases, etc. in the end found out they've actually changed ownership. This is great news. Something different! In June 2018 they opened up. Same name, same logo, same apparent beers. Went in expecting new and fresh, and found same and old. So we're back to 'average'. If I have a choice, Ravens Brewing is only 2 minutes away, with a nicer lounge area, and (in my opinion) better beers. The only strike against Ravens is they only have a tasting license, so no pints. Four 'tasters' (12oz) only per person. Old Abbey has a proper lounge license, so you can actually have a couple pints in a sitting. read more

As one of a few breweries open on Monday in Abbottsford we arrived thirsting for some flights. I saw they had 4 lagers so right up my alley. Flights of 4 were offered so I asked for a flight of lagers meaning one each. The server seemed to have difficulty with this. Another of my foursome wanted less hoppy beers for her flight. The server could not make a recommendation. Seems she was there to pour drafts not answer questions. Upon receiving our orders the server shut the lights and doors to the brewery. Looking around I saw were the only customers in the place. Then she started washing the floors. We asked when was closing to which she answered 8pm. It was only 5:15. Seemed she wanted us to leave so we finished up and left. Best beers of the ones we tried while in town. 4 lagers helps. Service was worst of all three breweries visited. read more

Great local business, making fresh beer. Can grab a pint, try some of the 30+ beer on tap and take home a growler of what you like best. Nothing beats local and nothing beats fresh beer. Update: the "Bernie Sanders" NorthEast IPA is my new favourite. Update: so glad this place here and it just keeps getting better. read more

Lots of beers on experimental stage and most are available for growler fills. Decent size of taster room with some board games. Max capacity of 15 per sign. They are apparently known for their sours, namely Raspberry Sour and Purple Draank. Friendly staff with a variety of munchies and cool crowd. We will likely come back when we are in the area. read more

From my blog post: Old Abbey Ales is located just off the Trans Canada Highway on Fraser Highway so it is very easy to access. When you arrive you will find the entrance to the taring room (to be a lounge in the future). Once you walk into the brewery you will find the tasting room. There is a good sized bar where you order beer and fill growlers. They also have a few tables to stand at and enjoy your beer. Once their first batch of bottles is finished bottle conditioning they also have a cooler for them. Currently the brewery is not doing tours but I got really lucky and the owner was their and was happy to give me a personal tour of the brewery. The brewery currently is based in two different rooms. Once is the brewhouse and tank farm with a second room that has the bottle conditioning room and coolers. The brewhouse actually has two different brew systems. The main systems is a 10 barrel brewhouse with 20 barrel fermentors. This system will do most of the bottled beer that you will find in store. The other system is a much smaller system that will provide one offs and different pilot brews for the tasting room. It is helpful that the owner of the brewery sells brew systems and thinks this endeavor will help both sides of his business. When you leave that room you move onto the cooler where you will find their tanks that feed the taproom. A second cooler is close by where they hold their hops and their casks. Once out of the cooler I was lead over to check out their bottle conditioning room. It may not be the prettiest of finishes but it should really do the job of making some great bottle conditioned beers. When you turn around from that room you will find their grain and bottle storage. I have not even said who the brewmaster of Old Abbey Ales is yet. If you know Dead Frog Brewery in Aldergrove you may just be familiar with Tony DeWald the brewmaster here. I expect great things in the future especially with the hope of the brewery to have 15 beer on tap in their tasting room at one time! Head over to the brewery to check out the beers they launched with that include Belgian Single, Blonde Ale, Rye Pale Ale, IPA and a Dark Strong Ale. Not impressed with these people. I returned my empty keg on a Friday and re-ordered another. The counter person said it would be ready for pick-up Monday morning. Monday afternoon I drove 30 minutes and arrived to find out no-one filled my keg, the counter person ran off and made a quick call. She return and asked if I needed the keg today, if so she would have someone come in and fill it. As its my birthday week and Golf major to watch on tv, i needed the keg but wasn't going to tell her to get them in, then wait a couple of hours. So it's now Wednesday, going to drive out in a snow storm and pick it up...I hope. read more

We hit these guys up tonight after a hike and a stop at another brewery that we were less than impressed with. We had not been here before and the bartender started us off with a taster of their popular coastal IPA which we loved. The selection is amazing, there is literally something here for everyone. We especially like the artwork on the walls. Amazing. FREE POPCORN? yes please. The quality, value and service is all above standard by far.
