So I just moved to Baltimore, and asked a friend to recommend a good place to get a haircut on the cheap, and voila! He delivered like a champ with his recommendation. This place is legit, and you really can't go wrong with an old-timey artisinal haircut at sixteen bucks a pop, but that's not the interesting part. At all times of day, this place seems to be awash in extremely good-looking dudes, both in terms of staff and client base. Seriously, between the barbers and the guys waiting in line, it's like a GQ cattle call in there. I am legitimately amazed that there isn't a gaggle of Hampden ladies just standing at the window at all times, just looking in and salivating. Protip, though: if you're looking to get served quickly, come in the off-hours. This place is already beginning to be packed by 10 AM, so make an effort to come early, and be prepared to be patient with these guys. read more

These guys are great! Dan, the owner, welcomed me into the shop and did an excellent job blending my balding top with my more substantial sides. Comfortable place for a cut and really convenient since it's OPEN ON SUNDAY!!! As a note, Dan is also passionate about his building's history and the neighborhood. I would reccomend this barber shop to any man looking to get a fine haircut or shave. Their price is more than fair for the quality and profesionalism that these barbers provide on a daily basis. Bubs, Dan ,and the rest of the old bank crew make me feel at home. I go in looking like a jerk, I leave looking like a man. The shop also sells products for your hair and beard. I regularly trek 20 minutes and pay for parking and then wait an hour plus to get my haircut here. Phil does an AMAZING job with my hair (and does a killer shape up too!), but Jut and Yung (sp?) are wonderful as well. It's worth the wait. It's worth the money. It's worth the mild inconvenience of paying to park and having to get cash out of the ATM (since they don't accept credit cards). They will do right by your hair. Every. Damn. Time. Ive been three times. The first time they didn't keep my appointment, and told me it would "just be five minutes." I waited for 20 minutes then left. The second time the exact same thing happened, and when the stylist who eventually squeezed me in finished, he had the gall to say "you should really make an appointment next time." The third time the stylist saw me walk in, said to the receptionist "why didn't you tell me I have an appointment, now I can't get lunch!" and then spent five minutes and thirty seconds cutting my hair. I timed it. Five minutes. Only the cut somehow looks like it took four minutes. When I got home my wife took one look at me and said "WHOAAA" and then started laughing. This is not only the worst barbershop I have ever visited, it is possibly the worst business I have ever visited of any kind. I've gotten at least 10 haircuts over my 4 years as a Hopkins student and I've never had an issue with the place until today at their new location in Remington. I had a miscommunication with my barber because apparently I wasn't specific enough about how I wanted my hair cut. Either way, the dude started to raise his voice while I tried to explain to him what I wanted, and eventually, he started cussing at me saying he can't cut my hair if I "don't specify the fucking number" I want it cut to. Even if I wasn't being clear enough or the barber was having a bad day and took it out on me, I think it just comes to show the lack of professionalism and customer service. The barber's name was like Frank Daniel Wells or something with a lot of tattoos. read more

Completely unprofessional; I highly recommend potential customers take their business to QG instead. They are cordial professionals who have great skill. I came to Old Bank after reading the great reviews, and I was incredibly disappointed with everything. I simply asked for a nice fade and to leave the top alone; not only did he buzz my sides down to nothing, he also cut out a large chunk of hair on the top. It's by far the worst haircut I've ever gotten. When I pointed this massive gap in my hair out to him, he got all angry and arrogant. Been there twice. Got a great haircut from Dan each time. Good vibe, comfortable space. Lots of seating. No wait the first time right after they opened, only about a 15 min wait the second time as there were two people who had just sat down for a cut. But the best for me is the convenient location. I live in Hampden, and I had been going to The Beatnik Barber, but it was a real chore to get over to Mt. Vernon. Now I can walk to an awesome barber. Wish they took credit cards, but that's not really an issue. Just something I wish I'd noticed before I got my first haircut there. read more

I'll preface this review by saying that Phil and Bubs just saved my life.During my haircut a wasp landed on my neck and started crawling on me. Phil looked at me. I looked at Phil. Phil looked at Bubs. We knew what had to be done. As I jerked it off of me, Phil blew it with the hairdryer into the prime position for Bubs to lay the hammer of god on that motherfucker with a magazine. Never have I seen such chemistry. I'm wary of sharing this because only a few of the barbers are willing to do women's hair, but I've been getting my hair cut by Young for the past year and he's AMAZING. Charges me $18 to get me looking sharp which is a fraction I'd pay at a normal salon. I usually dont write reviews but I feel compelled. As for the haircuts- this place is 5 stars. As of customer service- not so much. I went up to the chair and showed the guy a picture of the fade I wanted from my phone. He rolled his eyes and said Ugghh. I asked him what was wrong; he said "nothing." A few seconds later he proceeded to tell me how he hated doing that specific haircut because it was "too time consuming" and "not worth his time", and not worth "the $18." I just smiled to break the ice a little, and he said "Its not funny." Thats what tipped me over. I was about to get up and lecture him right then and there, but I kept my cool and told him to just give me a normal scissor cut so I can be on my way out on to yelp asap. I would go back for a haircut, but I would make sure to keep myself out of his way. I think his name is Jut. I dont know if he's the owner. If he has a problem doing fades, then he's clearly in the wrong field of work. You dont disrespect your customers like that. You dont roll your eyes at a customer, and you definitely dont say things like its not "worth the time." I'd go back. But I'd just make sure the bald guy isn't the one cutting my hair. Ive been to Old Bank 2-3 times before and have had great haircuts prior to this one. Update: Jut reached out with complete sincerity. 100% respect for that. This is the best place to get a real good haircut..Saving $$ on "women's Stylists" I went there when Dan opened..and he gave me a fantastic cut..Why should I pay over the top for a cut..I have always been very, very happy with Dan's services..Besides, the place has great decor and music..the wait is never too long..but get there early..They book up fast!! I'm a 25 year old guy with your average crew cut that usually gets me in the chair and out in 10 minutes with a look that's nothing spectacular. Jut spent an unheard of 40 minutes with me, taking pride in making sure everything was blended and faded just right. He also gave me advice on shampoos and haircare for my scalp which often gives me rather epic dandruff that will not quit. The other barbers are very friendly, the owner Dan clearly takes pride in the history and atmosphere of his establishment. The music is great as well and when they throw a Boh in there for good measure it's a wrap. All of this for a $15 cut cements the fact that I will not go anywhere else. I used to just get my hair cut at whatever place was most convenient when I needed it since I keep it short and it's 'easy' to cut. I now plan ahead to go to OBB. It's that good. read more

Despite what other reviewers here have said, I only had to wait about 10 minutes, but maybe that's because people have figured out this place doesn't deserve the five-star reputation it seems to have here. My hair was cut by Bubs, and it's in the running for the worst hair cut I've ever had (and I've gone to Sport Clips before). Despite having asked him at least three times to leave it long at the top, and even holding up a lock of hair and showing him the length I wanted it cut to, he pulled out the clippers and gave me a buzz-cut. I had indicated about 4-5" length, and the cut he gave me is shorter than 1". I thought at least he didn't screw it up even if he didn't listen to me at all, but the next day when I showered out all the gunk he put in my hair I discovered that he even managed to screw up the buzz cut. I've got a big chunk sticking out on the side that he missed, and there are stray hairs and different lengths all over. There are dozens of great barber shops in Baltimore, so pass this one over and try somewhere else. read more

I had my hair cut by a women who has a large grey table with some Orioles memorabilia and some tattoos on her arms - her spot is second from the right behind the cash register. I like the Orioles and I also have tattoos, but the haircut I received was uneven/lopsided, the back was not tapered (because one side was too tapered and the other had too much hair left, so it looked much darker on that side) and the hair around the ears was cut differently for each ear. Basically, the women had no ability to size proportions and shouldn't be cutting hair. THIS IS REALLY THE WORST HAIRCUT I HAVE EVER RECEIVED. Originally, I came to this place because of their convenient location, low price, quick turn around (considering the large numbers of patrons looking to get a quick cheap haircut) and high rating. It all really does sound impressive, that is, unless you want to get a quality cut, which in that regard, they should be rated as a 2 or 3 star place at most. I suspect that the reason for their good rating is because the large number of barbers who work there asked their friends, family members, band mates and others to rate them well. Some days you'll even find a band playing outside, and some of the barbers advertising the music, as if they don't know who they are - they all look alike. Overall, this was my second time trying it out with two different barbers, and both were equally bad. The first (a guy) made the hair around each ear different and it looked off, and now the woman I just mention who gave me the worst haircut of my life, which compelled me to write this review. I wanted to leave a review because I came in here as a woman looking to get her short cut trimmed up without spending my usual $60+ and I'm sure there might be a few other women ogling the Yelp page looking for a review. I am very pleased with my haircut (and delighted by the price). If you are a woman with short hair (pixie length) and need a cut, consider coming here. I will admit I was nervous - this was my first time in a men's barbershop and I didn't want to come out looking like a 10-year-old boy. I found a few pics of my hair from when it was first cut to give the guy an idea of what I wanted and just thought if it was awful, I'd go to my 'spensive place and get it fixed. Hair grows back. I do recommend bringing in a few photos because there is a bit of a different lingo in such a barbershop - though everyone here was super nice and I felt very comfortable. I actually like this cut better than what I got at my salon. It feels a little funkier. I feel like I look like Esther Quek, only without the stylish suites. If you are a lady, have short hair, and are ready to stop overspending for what is essentially a men's haircut, you'll be very happy. I don't even have to wait for it to grow back because I love it. Old Bank Barbers is absolutely phenomenal and worthy of its nearly perfect rating. I have never seen stylists who are so detail oriented. Typically barbers will get you in and out within 10 minutes -- Old Bank will take a solid 25-30 minutes to cut my hair and all for $15. With that $15 comes a straight blade shave. Everyone who works there is seriously awesome and friendly. I really cannot recommend this place enough. read more

Took the teen in there to have his mop cut. Was helped almost immediately, I made myself comfy with their super awesome collection of books. My son has super thick, curly hair that probably was about four inches from his scalp, while curly (basically, super long). He now sports an awesome short, but still trendy cut, that all of his friends told him was "slick". We'll back to keep him "slick" for the school year. read more

Updating this because of the rash of bad reviews so I wanted to throw in my two cents. I was telling my coworker about this place and he was turned off by the negative reviews. My go to guy is Justin and when he's not there,I go to Young. Both of those guys are phenomenal at what they do and have always given me amazing cuts. They have updated their beer policy to one a person but I can't really blame them for that when I've seen people go through a ton of beers. They also added a sign in sheet which cuts out the awkward "Hey, were you here before me?" and also shortens the time you wait if you know which barber to go to (Justin and Young are awesome). Don't go when it first opens or you'll be waiting for at least 45 minutes. Also, you don't have to know "barber lingo" like some of the reviews are saying. Come in knowing how short/long you want things and then if they ask what razor length/or whatever it's called, they'll be more than happy with starting you off on a longer one so you can cut it down more if you think it's too long which I've done on a couple of occasions but now I know I like mine at a 2. I've gotten my haircuts by other barbers there and they've all done good jobs and were all really chill. read more

Gets pretty busy and they are in serious need of a deli style "take a number" system so you don't have to constantly keep tabs on the 12 people who were waiting before you and the rest who came after, but they're good at what they do and it's a good price. If you're new to the place Sean is my recommendation. Seriously the best haircut I've had in years. He pays a lot of attention to detail and is VERY good at getting you exactly what you want even when you have a hard time explaining it. I've been scalped in the past due to misunderstanding, but this guy takes his time to make sure you get what you're after and not something ridiculous that you've then got to carry around for weeks.
