Nice friendly workers upon entrance with a clean welcoming ambiance. Everyone is approachable and willing to answer questions. Samples are readily available. Prices are a little higher than other stores we've been to in NM. We've come here a few times always buying 3 or more tea flavors. Really have enjoyed each of them. I was walking around Old Town and stumbled on Old Barrel Tea company. To be honest it was the pleasant smell as I was walking by that got my attention. Even though it was quite busy in the shop I wasn't greeted right away by Penny and Mateo. I am not a tea drinker normally so I had all kinds of questions and Penny took the time to answer every last one. She explained all the different teas, let me try many different varieties they had brewed, and since I was buying gifts - even took the time to gift bag it. The spices are being discontinued as of October 2024, so they are not being restocked as they get cleared out. They carry Vietnamese cinnamon, which is perfect for fall drinks. The store associate was very knowledgeable and friendly. She was a former barista and not only knew tea, she also could speak about mixing other drinks while incorporating tea or honey. Not only have I made it to one of their stores in the past 7 years... I have been to 3 and was a long time member of the Seasonal Tea Club! (As soon as my move is finalized I will start my seasonal tea club membership back up! It's that good!) Megan is awesome and your direct contact for the Seasonal Tea Club. So the first time I ever visited old barrel tea company was in Ruidoso, but I was so excited to hear that we had a location here in Albuquerque. You can find them in old town plaza next to a ton of other awesome local businesses. As a local, I still love old town even though some people avoid it because of how popular it is. On a beautiful spring day, I was craving a nice glass of iced tea before an event so I walked over to grab some. Sadly they no longer sell tea by the cup though. I did grab a sample and smelled some of their new summer flavors, but I didn't stock up because I still have a good amount from my last visit. I personally love looseleaf tea and they have some of the best combinations and high-quality stuff. They also of course have a ton of different accessories for your tea needs. read more

We stumbled upon this cute tea shop b/c we ended up snagging parking in front of the shop. The gal was knowledgeable about the teas and eager to give samples. Their samples are sweetened and the gal said it's to bring out the flavors of the tea or something. This was a tad disappointing b/c I really wanted to taste the tea on its own but I get it's a very American thing to add sweetener to hot tea. We bought a couple tins of tea to take home for about $16ish/tin. They have a variety of teas and they all look so beautifully displayed. I have bought tea twice and both times the tea had a lot of flavor and was work the purchase. The nice thing is that if you take one of their tins back they will refill for you. I agree with other reviewers - this tea shop is so cute! While exploring Old Town we stumbled upon Old Barrel Tea and I'm so glad we did. As a tea lover, the ability to sample different teas and smell all of their loose leaf teas is great. They have tons of different teas, sorted by type on different barrels. In addition to tea, they have lots of tea accessories - pots, strainers, etc. They also carry some spices, honey, and tons of cute gifts. My mom wants to come back here to do Christmas shopping - you could find some great gifts here. The staff was extremely friendly and encouraged us to try the teas they had for sample that day, as well as the honey. I bought some of their loose leaf black tea in a small tin and have been enjoying it at home. A sign in their store explains that they are a "female run family business" and that everyone who works there has a passion for tea. Truly my kind of local business. Love this place! They have free samples usually every time and I love getting to try their teas!! The flavor is soo good!! The staff are awesome and super helpful and knowledgeable about their teas and will give advice. I bought the Lavender brûlée and it's so good with honey and frothed milk!! Be sure to let the tea brew for at least 5 minutes if not more if you want it to be stronger. The shop has all your tea needs as well and many other cute things too!! One of my favorite places to go in Cloudcroft. If you like want or want to try a huge selection of tea this is your place. They always have differences flavor samples everyday. They sell every kind of tea accessory you need along with the cups and kettles. They also sell a huge variety of other things like essential oil, kitchenware, apparel, honey, candles and the list goes on and on. I am not as much of a tea drinker as a coffee drinker. I say this because Old Barrel Tea Company's teas are truly delicious and interesting blends. Before COVID, I had tried their teas from Coffee and Chocolate Fests, and, because my husband is a tea lover, I purchased a few types over the years, all of which were delicious (Strawberry Hazelnut Puerh, Horchata Rooibos, Orange Cream Oolong, Banana Coffee Puerh). After COVID, we have done a couple of orders with this company because we wanted some nice teas to sip on to help us relax, and I have been very impressed with the teas we received and how fast they shipped. From the first order, I really loved the Chinese Milk Oolong, Genmaicha, and Pecan Pie Puerh. I also enjoyed the free sample they sent of the Berry (much more than I thought I would! I'm considering getting this one sometime. It's great as an iced tea). From our second order, I simply HAD to try their Bourbon Brew (which is absolutely lovely!), and my husband loved the Mango Paradise also. The tea I was most surprised with was the Mocha Mate. It's gotten to the point where I like to have one cup per day of this! It's so tasty, especially with a little sugar and a splash of half and half. There's something about this tea's flavor that I really love! They also sell honeys, spices, teaware, etc. I've tried their green and red chile powders on popcorn, which is tasty. I have yet to try their honeys, but I'm sure they would be wonderful in some of their teas. This is definitely a favorite tea company for me! read more
