After driving 24hrs to get to beautiful Sanibel Island, this was the first place we decided to eat at for a nice, relaxing sit down breakfast. The reviews look exceptional, and there were tables available. We arrived a few minutes after our reservation because we were new to the area and had a little trouble finding the Captiva House. There is parking if you are not a guest staying in the hotel. We were greeted by the hostess. She asked if we wanted to sit outside or inside. I asked how the outdoor seating was. The hostess replied with a a little attitude saying it is like what it is where we just came in from. We decided to sit indoors. There was a table for two by the window with a view of the water. She instead led us to a table in on the opposite side of the porch area near high traffic. I asked for a different table. She led us to a table with four seats, but not the table for two by the window. Two women walked in after us and the hostess sat them at the table by the window. We both ordered the same breakfast. Two eggs over easy, bacon and breakfast potatoes. The food was just alright. Not worth it in my opinion. If you get a table by the window or sit out in the patio which is shaded under a nice canopy, you might enjoy the experience. We did enjoy walking by the water by the docks in the back of the Captiva House where there a gentle manatees swimming around. We also caught a glimpse of ospreys up in their nest. The story of Ding Darling on the placemats was interesting to read. His fun cartoons are displayed in the lobby. Overall, I recommend checking out the place. It looks like a nice place to stay, but get breakfast elsewhere and book ahead. I'm understanding why this was the only place with tables available at the last minute. read more

They have some work to do to get this back to what it was. Our waiter wasn't great and it was the first time in long time I've left a ~10% tip. Food was disappointing. Bright airy restaurant w/an ocean view, excellent service and delicious food. Ordered the escargot and grilled caprese for apps. The escargot was swimming in some kind of heavenly tomato sauce we wanted to lap up like soup. The ripe heirloom tomatoes in the caprese salad were grilled perfectly so they were juicy perfection. He got the grilled lamb chops and I had the Chilean sea bass w/ the creamiest polenta I've ever eaten. Both entrees were to die for! When staying or visiting Captiva Island, Florida this a good local dinner place. They serve a variety of local fish favorites that you would enjoy in this seaport village area. The Chilean Sea Bass was good, but a little buttery for my taste. The carrot cake and coffee was delicious! The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating. We sat Indy, but the sea breezes lifting through the restaurant added to the charm and a very special evening. read more

Wow! I came here for dinner and had a spectacular meal! This restaurant has managed to combine the relaxed beach resort atmosphere with elevated cuisine and fine dining. I had the chef's special that night, which was a cornmeal encrusted flounder on a bed of peppers and corn, surrounded in a key lime chipotle sauce! Whoa! Unbelivable flavor and perfectly balanced! My mother had a crab bisque, with the bisque poured over the crab at the table. She said it was phenomenal. The chef came out and made rounds with each guest, which was really cool to see. I wanted to tell him how good everything was! Overall, we were very impressed with the food and the service. We boated over the Captiva island for a few days and I couldn't wait to eat at Old Captiva House. We had dined there last year when we came for the weekend and I called it to be really good food. I was very disappointed and they did a switch and bait in our wine selection. They had on their menu Duckhorn wine Cabernet for $135 I thought that was fairly priced due to we pay $75 a bottle by the case. When they brought the wine out it was $16 bottle of Decoy. Decoy which is in the Duckhorn family but it's it's own brand Decoy like Duckhorn is branded as Duckhorn. I explained this to the manager (because the waiter couldn't understand what I was saying for some reason) anyway the Woman manager on duty that evening was rude and insisted that the Decoy bottle was same as the Duckhorn bottle, so obviously it was a switch and bait or she doesn't understand wines So be careful know your wines just because it comes from the Duckhorn vineyards does it mean you're going to get the actual Duckhorn. read more

The food was incredible and we all practically licked our plates clean. All of the dishes we ordered I would definitely get again! They gladly swapped out different sides for us. Had a really nice meal. Wasn't packed with people which made for a relaxing quiet dinner. Our server (forgot her name) was attentive but not instrusive. Started with a nice Cab and escargot. It was Mediterranean style, sautéed in fire roasted tomatoes, garlic, and some great spices. For dinner we had macadamia encrusted snapper over sweet potato mash and asparagus, and Cioppino which was really good. We passed on dessert as someone told us go to Bubble Room for dessert. We figured what the hay, right? BAD DECISION!! Got there around 9, the place was still pretty busy. Was told they don't serve food at bar, we could pick up dessert at store out front and bring in to the bar. Walked in to check it out and was completely disappointed with the place. Old as sin, yeah I get the decorations are the draw but the place smelled and was pretty beat wear & tear wise. No way we're staying - did a 180 and left. From the outside it appears a humble, nondescript beach house nestled in the Tween Waters compound. But step inside and enjoy one of the islands' best restaurants. The main dining room boasts ocean sunset views set in clean coastal stylings. The space was full yet it never felt crowded or loud. My wife had the branzino - a tender fish in a thin, golden crust, served in a delicious tomato butter sauce. I chose the 14oz steak of the moment, cooked at a perfect medium rare and flavored just right. Their key lime pie is definitely one of the best I've had: very tart and balanced with a pecan crust. High prices for high quality. A great call for a birthday, anniversary, or just a night to treat yourself to something special. read more

In 2012 I had one of the best meals ever. I wrote a fantastic review (on the Tween Waters Inn page) and I am so sad to update it to this. What has happened? This restaurant has gone from upscale and fancy, a place where your grandparents take you and you wear your best seersucker outfit in hopes they sneak you a sip of wine. Now, it's a frat party that's overrun with alumni who never grew up. No one wants to see that. We snuck inside an hour early for our reservation to get away from the DJ bumping early 90s rap (no one says "Merry Christmas" better than Tone Loc). Side note, they called us a week before our reservation to tell us to arrive before 6 for guaranteed parking.. we arrived at 5:30 and it was already full from non-dining patrons). Also, when did they start bussing people in?? Having escaped the trashed and sloppy "adults" for the quiet dining room, we were at least ready for a delicious meal before Mannheim Steamroller ushered in the Christmas spirit and fireworks. Cue the new menu. They decided to shorten the menu for the evening. Fine. At least I can still enjoy my $32 Filet mignon. In full honesty, I truly wonder what cut of meat they actually disguised on my $32 plate. I've enjoyed plenty of wonderful filet mignons (and plenty of mediocre) and this was trashcan worthy. The mashed potatoes were crusty and tasteless. Tonight I'm thankful for Thanksgiving leftovers. Dear Tween Waters Management: please bring back the old, the classy, the tasty. We ate breakfast here and enjoyed the atmosphere and food. More upscale than other breakfast places we visited like Keylime Bistro and Over Easy Cafe, which were good but more casual. They have quaint outdoor or indoor seating. The parking situation is difficult. We almost left because we couldn't find a spot that wasn't reserved for resort guests. But fortunately we found one several buildings over. The staff is friendly and encouraged us to walk around after eating. They have a dock to rent watersports equipment and a nice store with clothing, jewelry hats etc. Artwork from "Ding" hangs on the walls and serves as a placemat. We would like to visit again for dinner as their menu has some nice options. They are remodeling The Crows Nest next door and that looks like it will be a gorgeous place. read more

Holy moly, this was one fantastic dining experience! We had a party of six and everyone was raving about their meals, the updated decor, and the excellent service (shout out to Ray)! I know they recently reopened after a renovation so we were excited to come back here since it had been a while. First, the wedge salad is beyond delicious and not your typical wedge. I don't know what the reddish dressing was but I was trying to sop up every drop. We had a variety of entrees but my sea bass on polenta was outstanding. So moist and just creamy good. There is a small portion for $29 and a large for like $40. Go for the large if you're a big eater. The lamb chops were another stand out. Wow. And wait till you taste the carrot cake. This was our favorite restaurant on Captiva. A bit more upscale than other options on the island which is nice for a date night or special occasion however you can go casual too. We started with the mozzarella caprese and a garden salad which were both good. For dinner we had the Grouper and Ahi Tuna and both were excellent! The only blemish on this night was that we really wanted to have sushi and when we arrived and sat we were told the sushi chef was out sick. While this was a great disappointment the friendly service (Ray) and excellent food made up for it by night's end. I would highly recommend this establishment. read more

The seared Ahi Tuna came with so many different and delicious accompaniments. The fisherman's stew had a wide selection of seafood in a delicate broth. We were so full, we couldn't order dessert! What a beautiful place! This restaurant is full of crisp white and bright sea colors. It's very classy and open with windows throughout the place. Wait staff was all very professional. Could've been a bit more personable, less stuffy honestly but that's just personal opinion. I love bread with dipping oil so when that came out before dinner I was excited. Great to have with the wine as we waited in dinner. The herbs and seasonings in the dipping oil were perfect. My husband had the filet which he said was cooked to perfection. I had the vegan delight and it was full of flavor! The coconut jasmine rice was so delicious and the balsamic on the grilled vegetables was so flavorful. I completely finished my plate. If you stay at or near Tween Waters make time for a meal here. First night of vacation treated myself and a friend to some of the best sushi I've had. Everything was fresh and flavorful. We started with the Captiva roll and the Florida rolls both the perfect mix of flavors. Florida roll son good we ordered a second. Chef also let us know they had some really good tuna that night. So we had some slices of that as well. Buttery melt in your mouth perfect. When I travel prefer to try local beers. They have several good ones on tap sure to find one for.your tastes. read more
