Not a bad spot at all. I will admit that my review is based solely on a to-go order, so I can't speak to the dine-in experience just yet. My wife and I ordered takeout for a date night at home and kept it simple with a tavern-style thin crust pizza and an order of mozzarella sticks. The mozzarella sticks were okay, although I suspect some of that comes with the territory of fried food spending time in a takeout container during the drive home. The pizza, however, was very good. It was exactly what we were looking for that evening: crispy, flavorful, and satisfying without trying to be anything it wasn't. Based on our experience, we would absolutely order again. The service is friendly, fast and welcoming. The menu has plenty of options form apps, salads, pizza and sandwiches so there is something for everyone. We celebrated my son in laws birthday here last night. My daughter and son in law had eaten at Old Chicago (in Kansas) while vacationing. So glad we tried Old Chicago. The atmosphere, sports and family friendly. The food was amazing. We had 2 different pizzas, salad, buffalo chicken rolls (my favorite), pepperoni rolls, nachos, chicken wings, beers and wine. Our phenomenal server, Diana, was amazing. She offered to refrigerate our cake and was on top of everything before needed. She made sure our beverages were never empty. The food was so good. My 3 boys, husband and I came here after a weekend of camping and tired- too tired to cook or clean more. Out to dinner we go! We had actually chosen the Haymaker because I wanted to appease everyone in our family. I'm also picky about pizza and wanted more options than what most pizza joints offer that are actually edible. We had several servers greet us and help us as they had a couple big groups of guys watching baseball on their many tv's. They even have Chive tv playing- we really get sucked in watching that channel. We are also a huge sports family and love pretty much all sports! Live, on tv and playing. I ordered the chicken walnut salad- delish- I asked for dressing on the side. We ordered the Chicken Bacon Ranch (cbr) Pizza and fried pickles, my boys got kids chic strips and a burger. They kept our drinks refilled- hubs had a Few beers, my boys had milk and strawberry lemonade and I had water. They accidentally made a different pizza- the pepperoni one- it was really good and It was slightly spicy! I had 1 slice after they offered to let us keep the mistake while they corrected our pizza order. When the CBR pizza came I had a slice of that as well and it was so good!! It was pretty comparable to a CBR pizza I used to get way back in the day up in WA state. So I was happy I found a new spot that makes a good one. :). We did regular hand tossed pizza- going to try thin crust next time. My husband really loves Chicago style pizza but I didn't want to wait that long for so many carbs lol. :) Everything was good- we had excellent service too!! Please when you visit if you order a deep dish style pizza to have them make sure they place the top over to it while it's in the over. We came around happy hour so it was a great deal, I don't know how i feel about the pasta chips the spinach dip comes with (some were undercooked and stale?) The service was good until it wasn't. Our server was attentive until we got our food and once we did she would take FOREVER for refills and bringing back ranch. I was waiting to finish my meal with my ranch, waiting over 20 minutes and feeling hostage to leave. Anddddd 2 large pizzas....which is really why we came here and were incredibly disappointed. The pizzas were SOGGY at the bottom....im not sure how long they were sitting out in the kitchen to be that soggy and NOt hot when we got them but it was bad. When I got back to my hotel, I realized the didn't give me any marinara sauce to go with them and they were weak on cheese. I told her I could get those beers at Walmart. Asked for a manager and she said since it was summer they weren't carrying many dark beers. Good service, and good beer selection for those of you who enjoy that drink. The downfall is the surprising limited choices in my opinion and the very long time it takes to get your Pizza, Over 35 minutes on all 3 of ours, when it wasn't very busy. Specifically since both the upscale and fAst food restaurants are in dyer need of staff. NOT NECESSARILY PRODUCTIVE STAFF. At this point businesses are taking whatever they can get. First and foremost, this place does not serve a typical Chicago style deep dish pizza. Don't let the name Chicago pizza fool. Nonetheless, this place has a great ambiance, it's modern looking with high top tables and a bar with big screen TVs. It's essentially a sports bar that serves great pizza and had a great staff that's been clearly trained on customer service. I you like lemon chicken pasta, I recommend the Tuscan chicken with spinach pizza. All the deliciousness of a lemon chicken pasta on a pizza. Leaving the spinach uncooked as a finishing touch added a bit of freshness. We ordered it on the ale crust. The combination worked well. Not being a red sauce, it was a bit oily, but not overly so. Veggie 7 was ordered on their deep dish crust. Old Chicago's deep dish is more like a BJ's Pizza crust than a Lou Malnati's crust. The crust is similar to Detroit style. (Old Chicago does offer a Detroit style crust as well.) Cheese then toppings sit on top of a fluffy crust. Buttery crust had a nice crispness to the bottom. Toppings include artichoke hearts, olives, onions, tomatoes, and peppers. Multiple crust options are available for the majority of their specialty pizzas. Pizzas are only a tip of the iceberg. There is a full menu of non pizza choices. Wings, salads, pastas, fish and chips, fried chicken, burgers and sandwiches help round out the options. There is a "gluten sensitive" section. A children's menu is also available. Service was okay. Our server checked on us before our food arrived, and once more right after it did. No drink refills were offered. By the time our check was brought to our table, three of the four of us were out of drinks. Decor is old meets new. Stonework has an old-world Italian feel. Seating and decor has more of a brewery feel. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. Prices are a bit on the high side. Service is always lacking. The last three times I have been there, they don't have a server to your table for like 5-10 minutes. Two visits ago, my appetizers didn't come out early before the meal, so now I have to like double check everything with their servers before. Also, have been overcharged for their happy hour twice now, once for full priced appetizers and now for beer. When I asked the, server told me it was only .80 cents more, when they still didn't charge for the happy hour drink. So ultimately, I was overcharged for my what should have been 5$ beer, and nothing was done about it after I asked. Love the food, but the service here is really not good. read more
