Old Firem an's BBQ offered some comfort food at very reasonable prices. We were hungry, but did not want a big lunch, so this place worked out well with its side offerings. There is not much seating, but did snag one of the few outdoor tables. We ordered the Mac and Cheese, Potato Salad, and Corn Bread. The Potato Salad and Corn Bread were really good. This experience was disappointing, we had been walking for a couple hours and really wanted some good bbq. The meat was fine, the sides were disappointing. The service was fine, no one was unpleasant but I certainly didn't get a warm fuzzy. If back in the area we would look for a different spot to try bbq. read more

Had my doggo with me so we ordered inside and they bring your food to you. I ate the ribs without sauce and was very happy with them as well as the mac 'n' cheese! I tried other sides including the cole slaw (fresh) and potato salad (good, not great). I'd come here after another hike, for sure. read more

I probably would have not gone ahead and write this review, as the food is rather inoffensive, but the service was absolutely inexcusable. As a group of four, we hoddled around the only table left for outdoor seating. The lady who served us, Beatrice, quote "y'all really got 3 trays of food and four people around this table," dropped the trays down on the table and stormed out. We were able to get a verbal apology from the owner, but that was absolutely rude and unacceptable. Service 1/5 As for the food, we got the pulled pork and wings platter. BBQ was exactly what the doctor ordered after hiking in Harper's Ferry yesterday. It's a small space but they somehow fit everyone in, including a large group that walked in after us. I think the stairs down to the restaurant deter some potential customers, which was fine by me because that meant no wait for food. I got the pit beef sandwich and my fiance got the brisket sandwich, while our friends got another sandwich and half chicken. I have to say, they did not skimp on the meat, so they get major points for that! We got the potato salad, coleslaw, and Mac n cheese as sides. I liked the potato salad, the coleslaw was average, and the Mac n cheese was more like Mac n butter. I was disappointed but my friend liked it. Our other friend got the string beans, which appeared to be fresh out of a can. I wish they had fountain water but only bottled water for $2 was available. At the end of the day, none of the "negatives" would keep me from coming back. read more

Mediocre food on top of an atrocious server. We went with a party of four, and ordered pulled pork buns and chickens wings. Sides were beans, mac, coleslaw, and potato salad. Unfortunately, they were out of brisket. Despite their claims to acclaim, it was mediocre. The meat wasnt particularly moist, the smoke was there and just fine, but a real lack of flavor and rub. The flavor really carried on the bbq sauce, but even that was pretty cloyingly sweet. One of us was from the south, so he was waxing on about what constitutes good bbq- this, unfortunately, was not it. On top of the dissatisfying food, the server Beatrix was straight up malicious. Due to covid we opted to sit outside- there was a table with two chairs, so we sat there while waiting for a larger table to clear up. Two of us sat, the other two of us stood, being wary of the door, as people came in and out. Instead of asking us to move and saying it was a violation of fire code, she angrily said "three trays and four people at a table for two" and slammed our food down on to the table, and then slammed the door as she left. We asked for an apology, as her actions were uncalled for and incredibly rude- we would have happily complied if she had mentioned that it was because of fire code. Ultimately, we were unaware, and we had also stayed out of the way if the door. She was in fact, insistent that she waa not wrong to lash out at us and that she would not apologize for her rude and offensive behavior. TLDR: Food is mediocre, service is appalling. I've known the owner for a long time. He's catered our 100 yr anniversary in DC and I would have used him at my wedding if it weren't for Covid. Ive eaten his food at other events and always look forward to more. I've stopped by his trailer a few times over the years , recently at his new spot. I recommended this place to my brother who goes out there a few times a month. Fantastic Smokey flavor and slow roasts. By far the best BBQ I have ever had. No matter what you order you will not be disappointed. We had a variety of meats: chicken wings, pulled pork, ribs and brisket. Whether you decide to have with the sauce or without you will be licking your fingers. The sides complimented the meal perfectly. The green bean, mac and cheese, potato salad and cole slaw were all seasoned and well prepared. We will definitely return to the the Old Fireman's BBQ next time we are in Harper's Ferry. read more

I want to say the food is Five Star ***** but, their hours of operation are terrible. I followed the hours on their website 4 time in the past and 4 times I have been disappointed. I can understand if they cut back during Covid and during the winter months but, I have tried on 4 separate occasions to stop for carry out and the web site said we are open until 5pm. I can assure you that is not the case. This last visit was on Saturday 12/18/2021 and it was about 3:45pm, the doors were locked, and the sign said closed. I am going to give up on this place and return to T Dawgs. They are open when they say they are. Sorry guys you are losing a loyal customer. read more

Two thumbs down. I have no idea how the food is because we did not eat there because of the road ragey owner or manager. On Saturday, July 10, my family arrived in Harper's Ferry for the first stop on a 10-day road trip/vacation. There was nowhere visible to park nearby and no road shoulder in the narrow road to pull over. I stopped to let my wife out to go run into a store and investigate some food to go. I think I turned on my hazards. Almost immediately after I stopped a big white Ford (maybe Chevy) pickup pulled up right behind me and the driver laid on its horn - way too much for the circumstances. I was clearly in the process of letting someone out of my vehicle. Once my wife cleared I pulled away. I looked in my rearview mirror and saw the truck pull to the left side of the road and stop in front of Old Fireman's BBQ - blocking that side of the road. Two Caucasian men got out and left the vehicle unoccupied and went toward the restaurant. Up the block I saw a parking lot on the left. There were assigned parking spaces, with very few of them occupied. I pulled into one to await my wife. There were plenty of open spaces, including ones on both sides of my vehicle. Then the same big white pickup quickly pulled in on my passenger side so close the mirrors barely cleared and that getting out of a vehicle would be difficult. The truck was raised and quite menacing, towering over my vehicle and way too close for comfort. My two daughters were alarmed and feared for our safety. They asked if I gestured or did anything that would make the white pickup driver mad. I said that I did not, because I had not. With the possibility of violence, an unpleasant exchange in front of my daughters or a door ding I took a risk and rolled down the passenger window. I told the driver that I was about to leave and I could go ahead and back out to give him more room. He went ahead and squeezed out of his truck and said "this is private parking!" Before I could point out that I'm just "standing" and I am willing to move he walked toward the rear of the truck. I saw that he was carrying boxes or bottles of some food supplies and walked down the street and into Old Fireman's BBQ. Luckily there was no visible damage to my vehicle. My daughters were a bit rattled by the whole situation. I called my wife and said not to go into the BBQ place, we just had a spooky exchange with someone associated with the restaurant. We took our business elsewhere. We did not want to financially support such behavior and possibly have another exchange with someone associated with the restaurant. To the ownership, management and staff of Old Fireman's BBQ, please realize that you serve tourists/visitors in a tourist location. Vehicular and pedestrian traffic and activity will sometimes be in your way or may annoy you. If someone is in their vehicle in a reserved parking space, they are not in violation. They are standing and can move in short order. Be patient and be hospitable. Don't road rage, intimidate, scare, and snap at them. And what we experienced was two counts of road rage. They/we represent your livelihood. You need patrons, especially to help recoup losses during the height of the pandemic. On July 10, your representatives cost you a $100 tab. Take a deep breath and be thankful for tourists, not hateful. Remember, people you wrong have recourse: public reviews on the Internet. PS: I see other poor reviews relating to the staff. They did a 10 star job catering our wedding on 10/10. EVERY single guest (70ish) LOVED all their food. We enjoyed ours but because it was our wedding, we didn't really get to "enjoy" it. So..today we drove over an hour to go to their restaurant and let me tell you the food is amazing and it smelled just like our wedding ;) The food is to die for, the restaurant is clean, the staff is friendly as he**, they meet & exceed all Covid precautions and fire codes. The owner is a retired firefighter so he takes COVID and fire prevention extra serious. We can't wait to back there. The menu is small but it's perfect!
