I have been here a few times before, but always for breakfast and today it was time to visit for lunch. A winter storm was just blowing in, so the restaurant was pretty empty, but we enjoyed having it all to our self. We got chicken wings for the appetizer and I'll be darned if they weren't almost the best chicken wings I've ever had! Really nice crunch level and texture, really delicious! For our main, we split a turkey Reuben, which was fantastic as I don't eat red meat and a turkey Ruban is rare to find. We got the skin on fries, which weren't as good as we had hoped but not bad. I don't know what happened, but I came in for dinner and the salad was delicious. The baked potato was great, but the ribs were not just overdone, They were cremated. On the top that was visible you could see the barbecue sauce and some Chow that was fine but they were so dry. Khunt forgot why they were just dry as can be. I mean the meat was dead dry well when I turned them over I discovered the entire backside was not just charged. It was burned to a crisp. If you order the ribs, make sure you tell them to make sure they're not cremated. The barbecue sauce was delicious and had these not been destroyed. I think they would've been great. read more

We go to Big Bear every year for Oktoberfest and this was hands down the best breakfast I've had up there, we've tried the Grizzly, Country Kitchen, Teddy Bear, Benny's, etc., all good, all worthy of their followings, but this was just a great fit for me, lowkey, little to no wait, great little lounge and the food is great. My wife has high expectations for "Biscuits and Gravy," her mantra is if they've got good biscuits and gravy than you can bet everything else will be good! Well she was making the rounds at our table letting us all sample her plate, high praise indeed. The portions were large and we were served timely and politely. I do like to remind people that service in communities like Big Bear, is a lot more laid back, so if you're in a hurry or like to see your server every other minute dotting on you, good luck in your future search and please post where this place exists up here! Whenever we go somewhere, we can't help but try out "German" cuisine. This restaurant has many different options, which sometimes is a red flag... but we were pleasantly surprised. I wanted so badly to like this place, but I was really disappointed. It took a solid 20 min for someone to take our order, alongside the servers coming back more than once to double check our order. They also served me warm pineapple juice, and asked if I wanted ice, which was interesting. I must say - this place is a hidden gen in the Big Bear Community and if you want breakfast with outstanding service, friendly staff and unprecedented portions that are extremely tasty - this is the place to be!!! OCI is so deserving of local and tourist business and is must to visit. The slight downside is the building does blend in with the surroundings so it took a moment to realize it is a breakfast restaurant but just look for OCI on google maps and you will not regret it!! I ordered two eggs and water, the eggs were under cooked and I got a replacement order after my husband had already finished his breakfast. My water glass was empty for 10 minutes. All of the tacos Arron's around us were checked on and asked how everything was, but we were just ignored. The prices are really high for breakfast, averaging $16. Given the situation we were in, this deserves 5 stars for us. You would not think much of this place at first glance. As a matter of fact, we barely noticed it as we drove by. We saw the neon OPEN sign and we stopped to go inside. It was almost 10:00 pm, they were closing, but they happily decided to stay open and feed our family. We had been on the road all day, our kids were starving, and nothing was open other than fast food. We looked at the menu, and we were surprised how ambitious it was for a quaint, nondescript diner. Long story short, the food was fantastic compared to our expectations. The burgers, Steak sandwich and homemade fries (skin on potatoes) were really good. My wife had a grilled artichoke and a Caprese salad (2 of the ambitious items for this diner). They were better than some 'nice restaurants that we order those from. The prices were very reasonable. This turned out to be the best meal we had all vacation in Big Bear. Everywhere else we ate was crowded, frantic service, overpriced, and disappointing food. We expected some of that given how crowded the town was for Presidents Weekend. But that's why we want to give a special shout out to the Old Country Inn for their hospitality and great food! The club came on very good grilled bread but the turkey had an unfamiliar texture and taste, not bad, just different. First off, I know Thanksgiving is a busy holiday and thankful for all the restaurants open. We went here with a party of 5, 3 teenage boys and my wife, myself. We sat down and after 20 minutes of watching a blonde female server helping all the tables around us, we asked 3 different people who our server was and they all seemed confused by the question, plus the blonde female server wouldn't even look in our tables direction. The 4th person we asked after about 25 minutes, looked at my wife and asked "why are you starving?" We placed our order with this guy who offered to help us, 5 times I had to explain I have a severe tomato allergy and he still brought my salad with cut up tomatoes on it. We ordered 3 turkey dinners and 2 ham dinners. When the food came out he brought 5 turkey dinners and simply said "we are out of ham so I just brought you these". Then one of the boys had a big chunk of turkey with a large piece of bone still in it, mind you it's a shredded turkey dinner. Thankfully he did not crack a tooth when he bit into it. Then he brings the bill and I place 2-$100bills on there to pay. He comes back a few minutes later and tells me I can't use one of the bills, because they don't accept the older ones even though he knows it's real. I give him a "newer" $100 bill in exchange for the "old" one. Then the server brings the check back with the change and proceeds to sit down at our table and start flirting with my wife, only speaking and making eye contact with her. We collect our change and leave. The food tonight was horribly prepared, served and did not taste good at all. After many decades of eating here, we will never return. The food was so disgusting, as we walked out 2 of the boys started vomiting in the parking lot after trying to eat the turkey dinner they served there. Do yourself a favor and stay away. read more

Drove up to Big Bear for breakfast and we stopped in here. For a Fall morning on a Sunday, the parking lot was more than a little empty but the smell of cinnamon rolls from the outside dragged us in. The decor of the restaurant is a nice mountain motif and the restaurant was clean and presentable. I was kind of wondering why such a charming place had only a 3 star rating on Yelp but I also realized that the Old Country Inn has a full bar and it's possible that the establishment leans a little far to the liquid diet crowd than the morning breakfast crowd and that may be a factor in their overall rating (how many 86'd patrons drunk-yelped them is just unknowable). My wife ordered the Monte Cristo Sandwich which is her favorite and often hard to find while I ordered the French Style Cinnamon Roll Combo (over medium eggs and bacon). My wife enjoyed the sandwich and really like the potatoes! Pro tip: order the sandwich with pepper Jack instead of Swiss. I found the cinnamon roll to be a little dry but it was fine with a little syrup (it may have dried out a bit as they dip the cinnamon roll in batter and then fry it up). The eggs and bacon were perfect. The Old Country Inn is definitely worth a stop. Now, if I can only convince my wife to come back here for Happy Hour! read more

Got a pretty solid breakfast here a few weeks ago! Our group tried biscuits and gravy, pancakes, eggs Benedict, breakfast burrito & French toast and all was good. Eggs Benedict and the biscuits and gravy were really heavy and the pancakes were nice and fluffy. I think if I went back I'd get those!
