Olive on Main is a wonderful, family run gem on historic Main Street in Laurel. A very bright and welcoming vibe with outstanding food and friendly staff. The menu is very Mediterranean oriented with some Maryland classics and modern tavern fare thrown in. The mezze platters, salads and kabobs all stand out. The Smith Island Cake is a nice surprise for dessert. Check their website for a rotating mix of Happy Hour drink and app specials. The sangria and craft beer selection is strong. First time visitor and it was nice! Customer service was good and the food was pretty good. There is street parking and there was a free lot almost right next door with spots for compact cars. We made reservations beforehand and were seated quickly on a Friday evening. It was pretty busy so I recommend reservations, they seem popular. We started out with the Rockfish bites as an appetizer and they were really good. I got the gyro platter and a small Mediterranean salad. I do wish the gyro platter was more traditional with more pita bread. I wasn't a huge fan of the salad, it had a lot of different things in it which is good. Last I got the brownie à la mode. The brownie was alright, nothing special. I only spent $35 with tip which is very reasonable for all I got. Overall I would recommend them and I would go back! read more

Intended to go to happy hour at another establishment not too far from Olive on Main but ended up here. My friend have been here many times before so we decided to take a little stroll down Main Street and attend their happy hour instead. It's definitely a neighborhood bar/ hole in the wall and I could tell that it was a proud place for the neighborhood. We took seats at the bar and quickly started asking questions about the happy hour choices from drinks to food options from a young lady that was not the bartender but was extremely helpful. We decided upon a margarita and red sangria for starter drinks as well as baba ganoush and hummus along with the Thai Chili wings for bites. My friend asked for the wings to be fried hard and they came out really good. I got up to wash my hands and noticed the cute decor and snap the quick picture on my way to the bathroom. As I was coming back, I noticed that there were small placards on tables with different menu options including a key lime Margarita that caught my attention because I love love key lime! My baba ganoush and hummus were pretty much the same thing. It tasted like they were both seasoned with smoked paprika and both topped with unpitted olives and a few chicken peas. Although one being chickpeas and the other roasted eggplant, they tasteed almost identical with the only difference being the texture. I didn't taste any garlic in the hummus and I guess that's a personal preference but each time I make my hummus, I always put a little bit of garlic in it and it's not specifically garlic hummus LOL Moving on, the bartender seemed to be extremely busy because we weren't offered water or even second rounds until well after we requested after we were finished with our food. A small mishap occurred and the manager came out shortly after to address it. He introduced himself and asked our names and quickly took accountability. Now that's good management! Things are definitely be tricky and the restaurant world and being able to have a manager who can acknowledge it, take responsibility, and then ask how to make it right is gargantuan. Hey friends! I was excited to try this place again as I had it a few years ago and loved it. Unfortunately this visit was unpleasant. We ordered a Main Burger and Lamb Burger($38) to-go. We asked for medium and medium rare cooks. Both burgers were extremely overcooked. Beyond well-done. We asked for no Feta cheese on the lamb burger and still received Feta cheese on the burger. The fries were tasty. I unfortunately won't be back. The burger temp is the most important part of the cook, which the cooks blatantly ignored. Hope you enjoy! read more

This local spot has some of the best happy hour prices. I come here often, but always forget to leave a review. The happy hour is from 3-6 and features some quality items. This time around I ordered the chicken Shawarma Mediterranean bowl. The meal portion was perfect for happy hour and was really good. This place gets pretty packed, but the staff still manages to get the food out in a timely manner. My Stoli Blueberry Lemonade cocktail wasn't too strong which was perfect for me. Fast friendly service.Good came out hot and quick which was nice. Plenty of time to go get ice cream next door. But the food itself was pretty mid. The chicken was really pretty oily and for as much seasoning on top could of done with some simple salt. The fries were hot crunchy but equally bland. And the calamari appetizer not only lacked seasoning and was so chewy I couldn't eat it. While at the Main Street Festival, the staff at the table for this place were so enthusiastic and kind that I couldn't resist stopping it to take a quick break from all the activity. I had asked the staff to give me their favorite item in pretty much every category, and it was cool. Olive on Main gives major sports bar vibes, but the menu leans very Mediterranean. They have another restaurant in Takoma Park that I'll need to visit later. Anyways, during this visit, I got a black raspberry margarita -- yes, have you ever heard of that? I know I hadn't. It was nothing short of delicious. And since I was preparing to have quite a hefty amount of food, I just got some sweet potato tots to snack on. They were a tad extra crispy, but they still tasted good overall. I'm eager to come back for a proper happy hour and explore more of their menu. read more

We had a large party come after a funeral and the staff definitely were trying their best to accommodate us. It took about 40 minutes before we got waters but they quickly got our order and brought it out all at once. The food came out at a good temperature but is not the advertised mediterranean food we expected. The food was decent but not great. You could tell not everything was fresh such as the lamb burger and crab in the soup. The family still had a great time and appreciated the hospitality given the circumstances. We have been twice to Olive on Main and while it's been consistent, it's consistently average with terrible service. Both times there has been a host stand with no host. We stood there (in the way of other diners trying to enjoy their meal with people crowded in this little front area). They need to fix this process. I would've hated to be one of the tables trying to eat while people trying to get a table stacked up. GET A HOSTESS THAT HOSTS! We waited a good 15 min before anyone ever came to our table. At that point we were ready to order everything. Our food came out before even getting a glass of water. This point was moot because we never got silverware or napkins. There was one young man running around busting his butt seemingly trying to fix all the issues his lazy older servers were making. I wish I had caught his name. He is the one that brought us water and silverware and dressing and the bill. The food is not bad. It's pretty basic but their flatbreads are good and their kebabs and shawarma are excellent. I wish they had a NZ sauv on the menu but I'll live LOL. It just feels like some really rudimentary changes could take place and REALLY make a difference. My first time here and I want to thank all the yelp reviewers for their reviews as it was an excellent choice! I haven't been to downtown Laurel in a long time, it's really quaint and very nice. When I walked in, I was greeted immediately and offered my choice of seating. It's a cool little place and has a very nice vibe. I opted to sit at the bar and glad that I did. I was immediately greeted by Tori who was serving behind the bar, but also a manager. I ordered a beer and since it was quiet had a great conversation with Tori. Continuing my photo series of 2024, to represent February is Olive on Main in Old Town Laurel. This place is significant because it was my girlfriend & I 3rd date was here on Wednesday, 2/21 and our first date at a sit-down restaurant for dinner. I had looked this up and heard about their good happy hour from the President of my condo board, who really likes this place. So, I knew I wanted to try based on her glowing recommendation. My impression was generally positive. Server was cordial and answered questions like the wine recommendations, etc. I had suggested the half-off to my date at the time (soon to be girlfriend) splitting the chicken nachos and the happy hour wine. After my g/f arrived, I talked to the server asking about the nachos saying we were going to split the nachos, is this a good amount? She was honest saying that's it's a half portion and not much to split at all. I was disappointed saying that the happy hour makes it sound like the half price, so I assume it's a nice discount off the regular order. But half off for half the amount of food is not any sort of happy hour deal as I'm paying for the same amount per nacho. To be fair, the wine deals were great. $5 or 6 for Pinot Grigio and other options. I did want to try the gyro platter, and the server did recommend it as being a solid option. I felt this was the best choice here as the happy hour and place had a Mediterranean theme. My g/f got a bowl. We both enjoyed our food. I thought this was one of the best gyro platters I've had. As for the place itself, the set up is awkward with the shape of the place, it's a bit cramped and noisy. The happy hour was misleading Half price nachos shouldn't be half portion too, or they should clarify this is a half or smaller portion than the normal one. One interesting note was that in spite of arriving during happy hour time in the early 5 PM hour, our conversation was great and ended up staying until closing time, which is always the sign of a good date. Another noteworthy thing I said to her jokingly that we should've come here on a Thursday instead of Wednesday, their happy hour is extended until 8 PM instead of the normal 3-6 PM time range on the other weekdays. read more

This is a local spot you can grab a good bite to eat for a reasonable price. The service is what truly takes the cake! My favorite thing to order is the crab dip. If you have a problem with cheese make sure to tell them, there's a layer of cheese over the dip. This time I gave the lamb shawarma a try and it was cool. They add some spice to it that makes it smell delicious. I'm not sure I would order it again but it wasn't bad. read more

We came in on a beautiful Saturday and other than us only two other tables were occupied in the restaurant. The hostess seated us and brought our drinks. After a fifteen minute wait where absolutely nobody came to take our order we got up, went to the bar to pay for the ice-t. The bartender asked if that was all we had. We said no one ever came to take our order and we left. We might come back sometime and try again but not anytime soon. I am in the restaurant business and this was an epic fail. Great food. Nice service. We ordered chicken kabob and lamb shawarma wrap. Lamb could have used some spices but that's just my personal preference. It was otherwise great. We also ordered falafel and hummus. Hummus was nice! Falafel wasn't quite fried inside and the batter was a bit raw. Happens sometimes, I didn't mind it though. They also have pastas and burgers on their menu. So, it's American, Italian, and Mediterranean under one roof. Will certainly visit again. read more

We love this restaurant because the food and service are excellent. It is very popular with the downtown residents so it is also a good place to catch up with friends. This restaurant didn't look like much on the outside but was much larger and very cute on the inside. The Main Street area was nice as well although only street parking. The menu was interesting. Service was friendly but scattered as we had to grab a busboy to get silverware after ordering. As for the food unfortunately the stuffed burgers were not cooked enough in the center (rare shouldn't be raw) alson the mushrooms or onions stuffed in them were not cooked enough. The cheese inside either evaporated or was very little. The sweet potato tots were the best item on the table. The fried mushrooms were good but the breading was too thick. Restaurant and restroom was very clean and handicapped accessible. Prices were reasonable and the desserts sounded interesting but we skipped them as the burgers were off putting. Okay bar food. We visited Olive On Main close to when they opened on a Saturday and it was nearly empty. The restaurant and bar has nice lighting from the skylight in one of the rooms and another room has a bar with two televisions behind it. We split the calamari, rockfish bites, Caesar salad, and battered mushrooms. The calamari was okay with a fairly bland sauce. The rockfish bites were tasty and were paired with a standard tartar sauce. The Caesar salad was fine and had maybe a bit too much dressing. The croutons had a nice flavor though. The battered mushrooms were piping hot but did not have much flavor and were paired with the same sauce as the calamari. Overall, I was not impressed by the food and will not re-visit Olive On Main. read more

Food and service was good but the espresso martini has no espresso only liquor, coffee liquor and baileys. So if you like a White Russian with coffee then you will love it. But if you like a traditional espresso martini then this may not be the place. Again the food was delicious and the wine was good. I am sure the other cocktails are really good too! read more

We were greeted after a couple minutes and then seated. The place is pretty open and has adequate seating. We were seated at the front by the big window overlooking main street which was perfect. It took a few minutes but Someone eventually came to get our drink order. Our drinks came but we weren't ready to order our food just yet. It took a long time for someone to come back but they finally did. They took our order. We got the sampler which was really AMAZING! Falafel, dolmas, babaganush, hummus and pita. We then got a chicken shawarma and falafel on a pita with French fries. The food was really good but they forgot our utensils. They were very apologetic and said they were short staffed today. They took our dessert order and then came back to say they were completely out of it. We decided on the baklava to go. I ate it when I got home and it was soggy in my opinion. This was my first time here and I can't wait to go back. Our server was Samantha and she was great. The food was hot, accurate and very tasty. The drinks were also great considering the price. Two margaritas got the job done. Also, the sauce for the calamari was some of the best I've had, it was tangy and had a slight spice which compliments the perfectly fried pieces of calamari. Mozzarella sticks were hot and had a really nice cheese pull. The star was the BBQ chicken flatbread for me. It was the perfect portion and had a lot of flavor. Definitely a nice touch from a regular traditional pizza. This place is definitely a hidden gem and in the cut which I like. You can come here with your family, small kids included, with your spouse for a date night or for a solo lunch. Stopped in for lunch with sew sisters. There was no need for reservations since it was raining yesterday, but we did reserve a table just in case. Once we were seated, our server, Samantha, greeted us and gave us menus. We all ordered food and drinks. I ordered the caesar salad. We hadn't been to Olive on Main since before the pandemic. We were pleasantly surprised by the changes. It has been completed remodeled and provides a more spacious atmosphere to relax. The interior is beautifully done. We were immediately seated and the greeted by our server Nigel. Nigel was friendly and patient as we looked over the menu. We decided on drinks and nachos. When the nachos came out it was a huge serving. We weren't sure we could finish it. We decided to sit and pick as we had our drinks and watched basketball. We had planned to have sooner but after filling up on nachos we were done. The manager stopped by and checked on us and we decided to have a look at a dessert menu. Nigel recommended red velvet cake and it was spot on. This review is based on our prior visits by mostly due to how friendly and attentive Nigel was.
