My favorite restaurant in Andalusia Alabama. I moved to this lovely town over 25 years ago and have eaten at Old Mexico many many times. The food is great and the service superb. We've had other Mexican restaurants come and go but Old Mexico remains; the best of them! My favorite dish is the chili relleno: unique among similar restaurants. Super cheesy! I save it for last. Unfortunately this place is run down and not in the best shape and a little depressing but the hot chips with salsa and Queso were delicious and a little different than your average Mexican restaurant. Worst Mexican food I've ever had. Chips and salsa were ok, but the main courses were awful. Menu is limited to Americanized specials - enchilada, taco, burrito, etc. The enchilada sauce was super-sweet and chemical-tasting, and cheese tasted like bargain-basement American. Chicken strips for kids were gristly and tough, and appeared to come from two different batches. Fries were ok, though. I gave one star only because when I complained and sent my meal back uneaten they did not charge for any of it, even though the kids had eaten about half theirs. read more

Decent price for decent food. They have vegetarian options which I really like, they serve complimentary chips and salsa, the chips are good but the salsa is meh, and they don't have Horchata. In the long run I would go back for a quick lunch, the staff was nice and the ambiance was very Mexican like. read more

Took a chance on a road trip stopping here. Pleasantly surprised as they had homemade tamales, excellent but on the small size. Served with strange sweet type sauce, I passed on that one. Had a nice chicken tostada and DH had an enchilada and taco with beans. He liked the flavor of all three but thought the beans were too runny, thinned out. Chips were warm and salsa was average. I would return though for the excellent service we received. I'd like to try some other items in their menu. A lucky find where there aren't too many choices other than fast food. read more

My boyfriend and I went recently. We just moved here from Greenville and we were missing San Pedro's Mexican food, so we decided to give this place a shot. The restaurant appeared clean. A lady came over and took our drink orders, they were brought back in a timely manner, along with chips and salsa. They gave us plenty of time to take our order in fact a little too long. When reviewing the menu it seemed very generic. The basic tacos and burritos, not a lot of variety or true Mexican dishes. I went for the basic taco salad and my boyfriend went with some chicken fingers. As we were waiting on the food I decided to give the chips and salsa a try. The salsa was super sweet and honestly slightly resembled the flavor of spaghetti sauce. Our food came in a timely manner. It looked delicious. However they didn't really have any sauce options for the chicken tenders. Not even half way through my taco salad and i realized the rest of my chips were soggy. The whole taco salad under the inital layer of toppings and such was a pile of grease. The hamburger meat had not been drained off at all. It ruined 3/4 of the taco salad. By this time the staff was having an argument (in Spanish of course) in front of us. Though they weren't loud it was obvious. Afterwards everyone looked mad and in a bad mood. I was optimistic about the fried ice cream though. I ordered it at our usual so I was hoping it would be similar. I was VERY disappointed. It was cheep chocolate chip ice cream literally rolled in stale cornflakes with a little whipped topping and a cherry. Bottom line if you are traveling, head towards Greenville and go to the Real Old Mexico or my favorite San Pedro's! They are awesome and super friendly with reasonable prices.
