Well, the food was good, really good...especially the "angry" mussels. Yum! I don't recommend the clams, but I think I just don't like clams...next time I'll try the oysters. We got the calamari (delicious), and the salad with roasted squash (so good). Fish and chips were okay but i'm not a fluke fan. Service was excellent and the prosecco was good and a prefect compliment to the seafood. Even better = the atmosphere. Cool, dark cozy bar and light, airy main restaurant room where you can enjoy the boat traffic. After giving this place a second chance, I left feeling even more unimpressed with the lousy, overpriced food and slow service than I did on my first visit to this restaurant. The only think going for the Old Mill is the setting, but the poor food and service don't even make it worth the nice view. After waiting about 15 minutes for our drinks to arrive, our oyster appetizer came out before our beers. You would think that 2 beers would be easy enough to get to the table before our food. The menu is extremely overpriced, and the oysters are really the only delicious thing that we had. My boyfriend and I both ordered the burger with gruyere and asked for it to be cooked medium rare. When it came out, the cheese was tasteless (as a cheese lover, I'm pretty sure it wasn't even gruyere on the burger). The burgers were both way overcooked for a "medium-rare" request, and had absolutely no flavor. We spend most of our time trying to flag the waitress down for mustard and more ketchup, and I ate barely half of my meal. About an hour later, my boyfriend felt sick and threw up, while I spent the rest of the evening with a stomach ache. Needless to say, we will not be going back to this restaurant, when a better burger can be purchased for half the price and received in half the time at about every other restaurant I've ever been to. read more

We never ever complain but this experience really needs to be shared and future diners should be forewarned! Do not eat at The Old Mill Inn in Mattituck Short staffed in the summer! - astonishingly long wait for service, when the meals did come out they arrived at different times - as a result some of us had food while others did not - in fact one order never came out. When we gently complained that one person of our party was still not served we were treated with scorn and the waitress never apologized nor did the "management" staff who stood there obviously aware of the situation yet did nothing to rectify or attempt to explain the situation. We decided to cut our loses, settle our bill less the order that never came out and stop for a pizza on the way home- We produced a credit card and signed the bill, left a tip (believe it or not) and left it on the table. Then to our shock the waitress chased us into the parking area shouting within ear shot of other customers that we were running out without paying the check - we came back in and she then discovered she had picked up an empty bill holder by mistake - and then found the one we left in full view on our table - NO APOLOGY - for the false accusation and the embarrassment in front of other diners. It's simply insane that this restaurant can stay in business. A dreadful experience. This is one the crowd on Yelp gets totally right. Rickety and rustic the Old Mill Inn is fair at best and overpriced by far. While the servers are polite thats the best thing I can say about the place other than the pleasant view. The food is amateurish in everything from taste to presentation. Nothing memorable and if your out in Mattituck you could do worse but all in all its a non event. Maybe they will read some of these posts and up their game. My Fiance and I went to the Old Mill Inn last night to celebrate our engagement and were very surprised and turned off by the poor service and rude / cold attitude of our Server. When we sat down and began to order two drinks and were in the process of ordering an appetizer the Server "...Danielle..." cut my Fiance off mid sentence and said "...do you think we could hurry this up?...the kitchen is trying to close...". Having been in the restaurant business, I understand if it's the end of her night and she wants to go home, but we walked in about a half hour before the "...close..." of the kitchen, as did two or three other tables. I would rather be turned away then spend money and be rushed through our meal, my jaw dropped when I heard her say that and it couldn't have been a worse way to start our night. The rest of our experience in regards to the service was horrible, Danielle didn't check on us once or ask how our meal was. She seemed to be avoiding eye contact with us and didn't want to stop at our table once or converse with us at all. It was so obvious that we had to order a second round of drinks through another Server. The night reached an all time low when after running my credit card for the $87.99 we spent on four drinks, and appetizer, and two entrees, Danielle just put the check and receipt on the table and walked away without saying anything, not a word. Not a SINGLE WORD. I don't ever post on Yelp, or let me put it this way, I NEVER post of Yelp, this is a first, but in this case I felt so compelled to share this experience because of how bad it was. The service at the Old Mill Inn from Danielle was horrendous and this may not be characteristic of the Old Mill Inn and staff there as a whole. I really feel as though Danielle could use a lesson in service or just in manners in general. Having been in her shoes many times, my suggestion would be in the future don't take the table if you can't handle being at a minimum respectful and courteous to the guest, no matter what time it is in your shift. On a positive note, the Lobster Roll and Fish and Chips we ordered were good, and the Mojitos were great. I would give this place another chance only with another Server. read more

We loved the Old Mill Inn so much we had our wedding here! The food is exceptional and the deserts are out of control...not to mention the home made Sangria is delicious. The owners are great and the staff is excellent. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the view is great...there was plenty of room for our band, which was jumpin! We were later told the jazz band made the spirits very happy. It was a special day and everyone here at the Old Mill Inn made it quite memorable. The day was topped off with a beautiful rainbow overhead...a pink sunset and a couple of osprey resting in their nest. We didn't want to leave. Thanks again for such a blessed event! read more

The duck is the best, the angry mussels excellent, the clam chowder great, and the dessert (can't remember name) chocolate dough with chocolate dipping sauce was super. 4 stars not 5 because they forgot my friends kale salad. The only thing nice about this place is the view. The food was lackluster; edible but not enjoyable. I asked to have avocado added to my salad and I was told "the kitchen is too busy, the salads are pre-made" The tuna my bf asked for was about the size of a quarter on top of limp, undressed greens. Just returned from an absolutely fabulous lunch at Old Mill Inn. We haven't been there in about 20 years and were anxious to try it again. I'm sssoooo glad we did! From the service which was A1 excellent (Courtney was our waitress) ; to the food (mussels, lobster roll, fish and chips) which were all delicious - all very fresh and tasty; to the atmosphere (pleasant and right on the water) - all contributed to a wonderful dining experience and a great afternoon. Lovely ambience and setting, the servers were nice if inexperienced, and the food was mediocre at best. Lobster bisque came out Luke warm, though good when replenished steaming hot. We tried this place despite reading several luke warm reviews. We arrived at 8pm for our 8pm reservation, and were told to sit at the bar and enjoy a cocktail for five minutes. Thirty minutes and two $13 cocktails later we were finally taken to the empty porch... which of course made us wonder why the long wait for an empty dining area? We sat for another 15 minutes and though our busboy brought us bread and water, a server never once greeted nor took even our drink order. We left, and told the hostess why, only to get a snotty retort, "Well you just sat down." We drove to Love Lane and can't wait to try Love Kitchen!!! read more

One of my favorite local spots to go when I'm home visiting! Had the pleasure of Danielle as our waitress tonight and she was attentive, polite, and very sweet. We sat on the deck, great views, great food (wedge and burger). Listening to other servers, they were knowledgeable and attentive as well. We eat dinner here a few weeks ago. The special was bluefish. Great presentation, good service, nice look but the portions were too small. Smallest fish portion I have ever received at a restaurant. The reason for the one star is the view was really nice. Other than that, it was my worst dining experience ever. The service was awful. The food took so long to come out, we had to ask several times what was going on. When we finally got our food, it was disgusting. It takes a lot for me to complain about food but this was just horrendous. It seemed like they microwaved everything before serving it, so dry and salty. One of the people in our party didn't even get what he ordered. We were celebrating our dear friends upcoming wedding & I was so embarrassed that we made the mistake of picking that place. We did get a lot of laughs from the whole experience because it was that bad. The manager was very nice and apologetic, he took an entrée off the bill & 25% off. My husband and I went here this past weekend and had the best crab cakes... I was told the new fall menu was out and had to try the short ribs! They did not disappoint! My husband had squash soup and said it was perfect. At first we weren't sure about this place because of the mixed reviews but we had a great time... no complaints. I thought it was nice actually that the manager and owner both stopped by the table to make sure all was great. The music was was a great touch and we didn't feel rushed to get out of our seat. Love the view and the old world feeling of this venue. I felt like Paul Revere was going to come in any moment. The place is probably historic and they have kept the ambience very original. Sunsets are beautiful. The menu is varied but nothing extraordinary. A good Ale and Burger here goes a long way. I have found that all over the North and South Fork, the food is basically all the same. That is unless You go to a sophisticated Eatery and out East that is expensive and can be only O.K. Good luck. I was in the vicinity and wanted to visit this restaurant as I used to go there over fifty years ago with my parents. While the interior and exterior are in great shape, and remind me of my childhood, that's where my positive comments must stop. The meal was absolutely the worst I have eaten in my life. Both my wife, son, and I had the pallelia. While in my opinion, it would be horrid at about $12-$15., it was a disaster and extremely overpriced at $28. The dessert was horrible, whether it be the cheesecake, or the blueberry cobbler, we all agreed that it was pathetic. The meal didn't come with any sides. They have the audacity to charge $9. for a side of red potatoes. Are you kidding me? Needless to say, I will never go back there in the next fifty years. As a side note, it was stated on the menu that someone I respect and follow, "Greta VanSusteren, from FOX news is a part owner. Well, we decided go back this past weekend and I was so looking forward to it. We sat out on the deck, our server was very friendly and upbeat, but something was wrong. The waiter we loved from last year was no where to be seen. The lobster was our desire, but when we asked if we could have it cleaned the look of fear on the server's face made us realize that was out of the question. After we skillfully cleaned off that awful black inky stuff, we enjoyed it. But, we hadn't even finished our appetizer when the food arrived. No biggie. We tried for the fritters we saw going by, smelling so wonderful. We waited 45 minutes for them, and the next table that ordered them were told there were no more! As we left through the dining room a tall waitress went sailing by with a serving of them. Puzzling. Something is not quite right. Also, the smell of low tide during high tide seemed odd as well. A few weeks ago on a Sunday afternoon. We stopped in for a beer and bite at the bar. The chalkboard said that happy hour had a special on raw oysters @$1.00 each. I asked what time was happy hour and was told 3pm. It was quarter of. When I asked if we were close enough to qualify, the barmaid said no, if I ordered then they would be regular price ($16. for 6? Funny to see that the same Naked Cowboy oysters from Long Island were less money in an upscale Philadelphia seafood restaurant). At the stroke of 3 the barmaid asked how many oysters I wanted. By now my wife is halfway through her (mediocre) salad and I'm finished with my beer so I ordered another, even though I only wanted a glass she said that only pints were available on tap. When I said 6 oysters, she said they were only $1. each like I should order more. It wasn't about the money. Raw shellfish and beer could trigger a gout attack. These attempts to push up the tab annoyed me. The whole experience was less than pleasant. As this place is a destination, end of the road thing, it's doubtful I'll return. read more

Used to love this place, until about a month ago. They had an ok start to the season. I ordered the lobster roll couple days ago and it was awful. I Read some articles about new chefs and they are children with no professional background so you get what you pay for. The general manager Alex was very rude and could care less about us. Server looked like she was half asleep the whole time we were there. Loved going here have been going here for years but 4 times this season we tired to give it a chance and unfortunately you lost a customer. Maybe check into your management team because clearly the old mill needs a new one. Awful experience and very upset about it. Last 3 seasons were so much better. Needs better food (more like a professional chef who knows what they are doing) need manager because as a foodie who goes to restaurants all the time she was absolutely awful. And did not know what she was doing or how to be a professional manager. Other than that the view is nice. read more

Really like this old mill for the rustic bar and views of the Mattituck inlet. Sadly, food is not a strong point. I mean, if you have a guacamole appetizer, how hard can it be to serve something edible? Get an avacado (or some chunky avacado), cut up a tomato, onion, and fresh cilantro. But no- they serve creamy, liquidy, tasteless avacado with badically nothing else. Nearly a soup.?horrible. Calamari is tender, fresh squid- but covered in some thick, gloppy coating similar to General Tsao's chicken. Should be simple to serve tasty, fresh food but they miss the mark. We arrived around 5:30 and the place was practicality empty inside and out, however the hostess made a big deal about us not having a reservation and would not let us sit outside or by the window. Had dinner Friday night may 22nd. Was pretty cold out, so outside dining, which would have been terrific in the inlet, was off the table. Inside was also good. The general manager, Jamie, was at every table making sure that everything was perfect. And it was! The meal was very good. I had the special roast duck and my wife had the lobster roll. There was a band setting up in the bar, but we didn't stay. I think it would have been fun, and apparently they have different groups each night or so. What a cool spot. Off the beaten path, but glad the winery folks suggested it. Historic place on the water and a chill vibe to go with it. Sat outside in the picnic table and umbrella area, which was perfect for my little ones. Fish and chips was huge, real beer batter crust. Wife had this delicious salad. My boyfriend and I went there for lunch July 31st, we greeted by a very nice hostess, our waitress was not friendly she didn't not introduce her self she asked what we wanted, we started with the calamari and the guacamole, was very good , our waitress never checked in our entrees came out I got the fish and chips and my boyfriends the fish tacos , my fish and chips were cold and soggy there were puddles of grease on the bottom of the plate, the tacos were "alright" the corn tortillas were old and hard, he requested another soda and didn't receive it till we were brought the check I let her know that my food was horrible she didn't know what to say and ran off then came back with check didn't ask if I'd like anything thing else or offer to take them for the bill, she only came by once the who meal to ask if she needed anything else , I am a local and am very disappointed in the food and service I do not recommend going there read more

I want to like this place, and I see they have a new menu - so will give the restaurant another try after several overpriced mediocre food experiences.. As for the bar, however -- Why in this day and age only one beer on tap? Haven't the owners heard of Blue Point? Or Greenport beer, anything other than Heinekin? One other tip for the owners -- get some better furniture for the outdoor dining. The white plastic tables/chairs are too flimsy. read more
