Props for the cute outdoor seating area with a wood fire, and the really great service. However, the food was awful!! We had the chicken burger with "fries" and the reuben. First, there was SO much salt in the burned chicken sandwich that you couldn't taste anything else. Also, the "fries" are deep fried spheres of dough or something - the only flavor they have is grease and cardboard. And the reuben was also incredibly greasy and disappointing on the flavor scale. My husband and I stopped here with our 2 year old son because as we were strolling down Main Street, the openness and charm of the outdoor patio appealed to us. There were about 10-15 tables outside and only one of them was occupied at the time so we decided to try this place out. We made our way to a table and started looking over the drink menu (that was placed on every table) to try one of their beers and meanwhile, the waitress made her way back and forth from the table with the single customer sitting on the patio. From the very top, we received no greeting, no "hello", no "let me help you in a minute".. NOTHING. This waitress went in and out of the building 3 or 4 times and didn't once bring us a food menu or even acknowledge that we were there..We were right next to the ONE table she had so she saw us. After 10 minutes of sitting there and waiting for her to approach our table, my husband uncomfortably decided that we should leave...and said..and I quote... "I don't think she wants to serve us".. so we left. This waitress blatantly ignored us and seemed to NOT want the business so we decided to spend our money elsewhere. If you are looking for good service I would NOT spend any time here. It was dead tired on a Saturday at 4pm so I should have taken that as a sign that people don't go to this place.... I can see why. OWNERS: I would consider retraining your waitresses or hiring a completely new staff of waitresses because the blonde/smoker lady you have working for you doesn't do her job. read more

Truly a hidden gem of Main Street! From the extensive beer list (act fast, it's all on limited supply!), fabulous patio, and delicious food menu, they have a great thing going! We ate here last night, for probably the 50th time (we live within walking distance), but I wanted to give a review for the following reason: they were incredibly busy. Yes, Friday night, yes the weather was beautiful. The patio was packed. They even opened up the side patio, which I know can prove difficult with limited number of servers. I never saw such hustle and care from the severs to make sure everything was perfectly prepared and delivered to the tables (even had my friend cut into his steak to ensure cooked to his taste). We waited for our food, but had the forethought to order appetizers and drinks, so plenty to hold us over until the main course arrived. And the food was delicious! Artichoke dip is really yummy and I had the beef tips which were amazing. Never disappointed when we eat here! Overall...worth the wait, as most good things are! read more

So this place looks really neat, but don't be fooled. I looked at several other reviews ... after being seated the real restaurant stepped forward. After an hour and fifteen minutes still no food our order had been finally taken after about 25 minutes. I tried to be patient. Finally we told the server we would pay for our drinks but that was all. You would think a manager would care enough to come see what the issue was but they didn't care either. We had a very nice meal served by a very sweet young server. I love Reubens but don't care for red meat. I asked if they could make it with chicken. The server checked, came back and said they would and a bit later we were served very tasty Reuben's done just right. Old Millstream's outdoor dining is set in a lovely location and the day we were there it was not crowded - which in my opinion, it should be! So many visitors to Main Street St Charles seem to migrate further north on the street but I think they're missing out by not going to the Old Millstream Inn. And although we didn't have any with our meal, they offer quite a large selection of beers. btw - it's rare that I give anything a rave review, but this place deserves it. And just as an afterthought, neither of us know anyone who works there, although one of us does work in a shop further north on Main St. read more

In all my years I have (NEVER) had such a lack of service or concern for there patrons.But it does have a nice outside area and that's all it has going for it. Don't waste you time. Our second trip to St. Charles, but our first time to try this restaurant. It was such a pleasant experience. A beautiful day to sit outside while listening to the stream and music. The staff were friendly, pleasant and helpful. The food was fantastic. Good size portions, reasonably priced with great flavor. We had the pulled pork, chicken cordon bleu, potato salad and Mill fries. Everything was delicious, served hot and fresh. They have a nice selection of beers along with a decent wine list. I forgotten to write this review. I know it's almost a year ago but still ingrained in my mind forever as the worst possible service. Me sister and I took our mother mad grandmother here on Mother's Day (a Sunday night). It was moderately busy, we waited about 20 minutes to be sat. Service was on the slower side for getting drinks and orders but that's not where things went wrong... it took over and hour and a half to get our food. I watched tables around us with same size parties who I know ordered after us (because they were sat after us) get food. We saw finally our server bring the tray of what had to be our food (we were the only people without it) and set it across the patio on a stand and leave to help another server. It sat there for 5-10 minutes with flies buzzing around it before my sister (who was 18 at the time) went and grabbed the tray and brought it so we could eat our food. It was cold and gross and I could literally not believe a place would even come close to making us stoop to the level of having to serve our own food! The server didn't even realize we had done that when he came out 15 minutes later. My mother told him what happened and he was surprised and said "oh, sorry. I'll fix this." And came back another 15 minutes later to say the bill was on the house and we were fine. No manager appearing to say sorry, no real apology. We actually left there laughing saying "damn that was the worst service we have ever had." read more

Just gross. The place was dirty inside and outside. We decided to eat here one day in the summer because it was the only place that didn't have people waiting outside to get in. That should've been a clue. There was no one seated inside and only 3 tables occupied outside. Yet, it took over an hour to get our food, which was a soggy mess of oily bread advertised as Cuban sandwiches. Additionally, the outside was overrun by gnats and flies. After we and the other 3 tables mentioned how buggy it was, the waiter offered us bug spray to use on our bodies. And then warned us not to spray it by the food. Really? We asked to be moved inside, where we found the cloth on our table covered in food stains. Aaaaaaand dead bugs on the booth seats. While we were trying to get our check so we could get out of there, a group came in to look at the menu, stood around for about 30 seconds, and one guy said "This place looks gross.". Unlike other area Pubs/Restaurants - they play Classic Rock music from the 60's, 70's, 80's - this is so NICE!!! I am so tired of the boom boom boom music at other area pubs that's only suitable for 18 year olds! Millstream recognizes that most of their customers are 25 - 80 and almost everyone loves Classic Rock! We don't want to hear Justin Beiber! Thank you Millstream! They also have an awesome selection of craft beers! Their steak and steak tips are delicious! So are their Mill Fries, Portabello salad and sandwich, French Onion Soup, and Burgers! My husband and I live in St. Charles and have walked past the Old Mill Stream on several occasions, each time saying we really would like to try it. This past Saturday night we finally did and we're sorry we didn't try it sooner. We sat in the outdoor patio, which was pleasant and relaxing, a great date night atmosphere. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. The food...first class. We dined with another couple and started out with drinks and beer (selected from a expansive list) and the Basket of Millfries (like tator tots but classier and tastier). For my entree, I ordered Sauteed Beef Tips (Red) and it was delicious! Lots of flavor, good quality meat, and a good portion size. The mashed potatoes tasted like homemade and the green beans...very fresh. Other entrees ordered that were just as delicious: Crab Stuffed Talapia, Applewood Smoked Shrimp, and Grilled Atlantic Salmon. The Old Mill Stream is now one of our favorite restaurants. If you haven't tried it, you should. You won't regret it. read more

We love sitting out on the patio, and the firepits make the atmosphere great. The beer and ambience were great, but the food was mediocre. All four of our different kind of steaks were way overcooked and came out the same (medium well to well), even though they were ordered to different temperatures (medium rare to medium). The red sauce for the beef tenderloin tips was rather salty, but the wild rice and veggies were great. The service was nice and friendly. This was the worst experience I have had with a resteraunt in a long time. The atmosphere was nice but perhaps we should have wondered why there were only four occupied tables while the marathon finish line was less than a mile away. We ordered two reubens, chicken fingers for the kids, and a meat and cheese appetizer. After 40 minutes all we had was our drinks and never saw our waitress again. The wait staff seemed too busy coming in and out from smoking to be bothered to check on us again. Eventually the kids got too restless and we had soccer games to go to so we said we had to leave and would pay for our drinks but we couldn't wait for the food any longer. We were told "It takes awhile to make a meat and cheese plate." Really....it takes 40 minutes for an appetizer? Unless you are going out on your own to milk the cow, pasturize the cheese, and then butcher said cow....it should not take 40 minutes. This was terrible service and I would not recommend trying this establishment...unless you have all day and no appetite. read more

I love the Old Mill Stream Inn. They have an extensive beer selection by bottles (they do not have beer on tap) and great pub food. The staff is friendly and the patio during nice weather can't be beat. In the winter, it tends to get smokey inside and can get crowded on weekends but is still my favorite St. Charles bar. read more

If I could give this place a negative five stars I would. The food, is just pretty commonplace...nothing particularly special. The lower level bar is really cool...but have been there twice and the service is terrible. If you are not one of the regulars sitting at the bar, neither the bar tender or the waitresses seem to notice you. Have been there a couple times, trying to be fair, in the sense that I am not catching them on a bad day. Last time I had my brother with me, and I wanted to show him the lower bar and lounge. He was impressed, but like me, could not believe the lack of service, or even respect. we waited more than 20 minutes at a table facing the bar. The bartender was mostly doing inventory, and talking with the regulars at the bar. After 20 mins, I went up to the bar to ask for service, and was in no way inappropriate. He was nice enough to tell me he would be with me in five minutes...well 20 minutes again went by, with no service. So after about 25 minutes, mostly looking just for a couple of beers,possible sandwiches,we left for one of the other lounges along main street, and had great service. This place has poor management, lackadaisical waitresses and bartenders. If you go, be prepared for poor service, and mediocre food. read more

I was dissappointed in the place. My husband and I went there for dinner. We sat out on the patio and ordered the special fries that "only they make" They were out of them. Then we went inside for dinner. The dining room is very nice, casual. I order the special jerk shrimp and got 2 tiny shrimp on a skewer of veggies x 4. Nothing special. Hubby got the prime rib, it was very thin and had lots of fat. Not impressed. We decided to go again as the patio is so pleasant and they had just reopened after the fire and it may just have been a bad startup. Again we sat on the patio. This time my husband asked for one of their bottled beers from their extensive beer list and I ordered a Crown Royal and seltzer. His bottled beer came in a glass with no bottle. He asked did I accidently order a draft and was told no, it was just poured in a glass. He was disappointed as he wanted to see the bottle as he had never had the beer before. My drink came with a lime in it. We asked to try those special fries again. This time we were told that the potatoes were not in season yet so they didn't have them. They were on the menu both times we came. Oh well, . I must admit I had never had anyone put a lime in my Crown Royal and it really didn't taste very good. At this point we decided that maybe we didn't want to eat here again after all. read more
