My wife and I ate here for our anniversary dinner. The staff is very kind and knowledgeable on the drinks and food menu and specific ingredients and how the flavors come together. Our server did great offering suggestions that were very tasty. We sat outside by the water on a nice sunny day. Loved that atmosphere and vibe. Only reason I slightly downgraded atmosphere was because of the amount of flys while you're trying to eat. Big drink menu with lots of good sounding drinks. Our waiter also suggested a wine and brought one for us to sample, to which we enjoyed and ordered a glass of it later. Large menu with mostly seafood options. I'm not a big seafood eater, but was easily able to find some menu items without seafood if you also aren't into fish. They started out by providing us a complimentary app, maybe because it was our anniversary. Not something I'd typically order but was very flavorful and good. Apps mostly have seafood in them, and I was adventurous and tried the lobster ravioli. Very impressive flavors. For dinner, I ordered the beef Wellington and my wife got a veal dish with scallops. Well prepared, fresh, with good flavoring. My only constructive criticism on the food would be recommending more seasoning on the fillet. We opted not to order a dessert because we were full but our waiter brought out a complimentary cherry chocolate moose because of the anniversary celebration. Portion sizes are smaller and the dishes are pricey, but you are getting top tier food if you're celebrating anything special. Staff takes there time which won't rush you. Gives you time between each and every course. If you do drinks, apps, and entry, you'll probably be there for 2 hours. I would recommend them for special occasions!

Extremely slow service and below mediocre food that is extremely overpriced. We started off with their amuse bouche--why include an amuse if you can't execute? It tasted like a canned garbanzo bean salad and instead of the foam they touted, it ended up being a gloppy soup on top. The actually corn soup with scallops we ordered was decent. Everything after that was downhill. The fried artichokes were very soggy and tasted sour, our stuffed zucchini blossoms just tasted soggy and bland and had very little lobster. The beef Wellington was okay tasting--unfortunately the bottom of the puff pastry was soggy and one of the two sauces was completely flavorless and had a cornstarch film that developed which was extremely unappetizing to look at and even worse to eat. If we were to ever come back, it would to just get a drink.

Great restaurant!! We loved the food and atmosphere. Our reservation was at 4:30 and we had to hurry to get out by 7:45, so be prepared for a longer experience. We had a show at 8 so we weren't able to get any dessert.

Tucked away on the lake in a sleepy little town this restaurant in so special. I had dinner here the weekend of my bachelorette and it was perfect. The cocktails were amazing as was the food. The staff were so welcoming. I'm dying to visit again.

Absolutely outstanding food, service, surroundings. This restaurant cannot be topped!!!!! The only issue we had as a group was navigating the many steps required for entrance, exit and visiting the restrooms. Wonderful restaurant and staff. I could not recommend more highly.

What a lovely gem in the charming lakeside town of Vermilion, OH. Celebrating my birthday and on a friend's referral, we had an amazing dining experience. I highly recommend this pricey but well worth the price bistro! Food, service, and charming decor hit all the buttons.

To go desserts for our birthday celebration

This was a birthday celebration for us. What a wonderful evening! We have been wanting to have a special meal here for sometime and it did not disappoint! The ambience was really beautiful and charming. It felt like we were actually in France. The service was impeccable. The food was excellent. We both had the Beef Wellington. It was so tender and delicious!I had the lobster bisque and it was amazing! Full of lobster claw meat and the pastry on top was light and flaky. We will definitely have to come back again

I love a lot of restaurants in northeastern Ohio, but this one stands above the rest. The service is impeccable. The patio is beautiful with views of the river and beautiful decor with Persian rugs, pictures, live plants, and comfortable chairs. The drink menu was endless and our cocktails were fantastic ( Hugo spritz and Negroni). Our appetizer (lobster stuffed zucchini blossoms were perfectly cooked) and our entrees were delicious as well, but what I really loved were the extra touches like the aperitif and dessert drinks that were served with our dessert. We were so glad we tried a new place for our anniversary. Can't wait to go back!

Great special occasion spot! Highly recommend a riverfront reservation. Even on an 80 degree night, the breeze off the water was enjoyable. I am not a big meat lover so I often get salads and vegetarian options. I didn't see much available so I asked and I'm so glad I did! The veggie risotto was AMAZING. French onion soup has beef stock but was also tasty. Even had a bite of my husband's filet and loved it Still drooling this morning. Great service, expansive cocktail list (we had a few ). Splurge and go here at least once. $250 including tip for a few hours on a summer night to celebrate 13 years of marriage was a great idea. Thanks, hubs.

How is their tasting menu? What is the cost without wine pairing?

The tasting menu was fantastic. I would highly recommend! It is $125 for the tasting menu $175 with the wine paring. They do not pour lightly, so if you like wine I would also do the pairing.

Has anyone ever used Uber or Lyft from the Cleveland area to visit this restaurant? My concern is returning back home. I realize the restaurant has car services listed on the website, but prefer Uber.

We usually stay at the local Holiday Inn express or B&B. It might be difficult or cost prohibiting for Uber since it is 45 min+ from Cleveland. It may be hard to find Uber from Vermillion.

We arrived on time. The parking was $3.00. The restaurant is in an old carriage house on the campus of Case Western Reserve University. We were placed in a the back room near a mini door by a window and a view of the patio garden. The inside was very nice. I am a bit claustrophobic so I sat with my back to the corner while my husband had a view of the corner. Fortunately, he could see the patio which he liked. The other downside, was the couple of flies that kept buzzing to and fro around the window, We joked that we wanted inside on the nice late afternoon / early evening to avoid bugs. Hahaha. We laughed at that too as our week had us on Lake Erie covered with midgies one day and then biting flies a few days later. Gotta laugh, but I digress. L'Albatros! Our server Kyle and the team did a great job! We had water, bread with olive oil, as needed. We started with cocktails and the "French Toast". My husband enjoyed a nice white wine and I had the L'Albatros Original ( Absinthe, Lime, Pineapple, Mint ). I loved the cocktail, it was just a tad sweet, but the flavor was super ! The "French Toast" was a substantial slice of French toast covered with ragout of wild mushrooms and balsamic syrup and micro greens and shaved parmesan. It was lovely. My husband LOVES mushrooms, so this was perfect. For our mains, he ordered the shrimp pasta. Kyle shared that the cream sauce is made with Pernod, which my husband is not a fan of Anise/ black licorice,so he would not enjoy. Kyle offered that they could do a vodka cream sauce instead. This was a much better option for him and he really enjoyed. I ordered the Root Vegetable Cassoulet. It was topped with some breadcrumb mixture. It was the least successful part of the dish. While I normally like a crumble, this has an odd texture. The root vegetables were perfectly cooked and the sauce was delicious. For dessert, my husband ordered cheesecake. I had a bite and it was tasty. I ordered a cappuccino and it was made perfectly. Definitely a place we would both be happy to return to. Well done service, food and ambiance!

The braised beef was tender, but again, it felt pretty average and didn't have that wow factor you expect from a higher-end French restaurant. For what it cost, I expected something more impressive. The biggest miss for me was dessert. The strawberry balsamic cheesecake just didn't work at all. The balsamic flavor completely overpowered everything, and I honestly hated it. It was one of those desserts where a few bites were enough. Overall, the meal wasn't terrible, but I left feeling very underwhelmed, especially considering the price. There are plenty of places where I'd happily spend that kind of money, and this just didn't feel worth it.

An absolutely fantastic visit today…read more Our daughter is moving out of town, and for her "going-away" dinner she wanted one more visit to Cru. What a wonderful choice it turned out to be. From beginning to end, this was truly a remarkable dining experience. Every time we visit, it seems like both the food and the service continue to get even better. We had reserved a table on the outdoor patio and were seated promptly. We absolutely love the patio--its ambiance is second to none and, in our opinion, it's one of the best outdoor dining spaces in the city. This time, we decided to keep things light and ordered a selection of appetizers, a cheese board, and desserts. Since the menu changes four times a year, there's little point in listing every dish, as they'll likely be different by the time someone reads this review. A huge compliment goes to the entire kitchen staff. Every appetizer was beautifully prepared, and they even made a special zucchini blossom for our daughter, which was a wonderful surprise. A special thank you also goes to the pastry chef. The three desserts were outstanding, and the personal touch of writing "Good Luck in Chicago" in chocolate on one of the dessert plates made the evening even more memorable. We also want to recognize both sommeliers. During a previous visit, one of them had prepared an incredible house-made bar nut mix that we still talk about. We asked whether it was still available, and although he explained it was no longer on the menu, he went out of his way to prepare it for us on the spot. Our daughter absolutely loved it. Our second sommelier (whose name I unfortunately forgot) was equally wonderful. She took the time to recommend several excellent Pinot Grigios after my daughter asked for suggestions, and her knowledge and enthusiasm were greatly appreciated. Finally, a heartfelt thank you to our server, Julie, who provided warm, attentive, and professional service throughout the evening. She helped make an already special occasion even more enjoyable. As we were leaving, my daughter summed it up perfectly: "This was probably my favorite visit out of all the times we've been here." For a restaurant we've enjoyed many times over the years, that's about the highest compliment we could give. Thank you to everyone at Cru for making our daughter's farewell dinner so memorable. We wish you continued success and can't wait for our next visit.

We were able to try a variety of dishes, and everything felt thoughtfully prepared and made from scratch. Standouts for us included the vol-au-vent with escargot, rosti, filet mignon, scallops, sea bass, and the rich, creamy French onion soup. The flavors were well-balanced, the presentation was colorful, and some elements even had a fun, interactive touch (like the Parmesan crisp). One thing that sets this place apart is how versatile it is. It offers a bar area with happy hour, a strong cocktail and mocktail selection, and French-inspired bar bites like mussels and steak. There's also a more formal dining room for a sit-down experience, plus a private dining space available (free Mon-Wed, fee the rest of the week). They've also recently opened a café next door, which is worth checking out on its own--great selection of pastries, macarons, crepes, and coffee, along with wines, cheeses, and other French specialties. The atmosphere is elegant but still comfortable, and the service was attentive and professional throughout our visit. Overall, a great hidden gem whether you're looking for a casual drink, a full dinner, or even just coffee and dessert. We'll definitely be back.

There is outdoor seating but it was chilly out and the vibes inside are cute and Instagram friendly, so we ate inside. There were 4 of us and we each ordered a different drink and a different crepe. I ordered the Hawaiian crepe and an iced matcha latte with oat milk. The other 3 ordered a dirty Chai, a regular Chai, and a brown sugar oat latte for their drinks and the chicken tuscan, Parisian, and the bacon avocado crepes. We were really happy with our delicious crepes but were mixed on our drinks. The crepes are huge and definitely worth the money! I can only speak for mine but I thought my Hawaiian crepe had a generous serving of ham and pineapple inside and the pineapple sauce was chunky and slightly spicy! For the two of us, my bf paid about $45. So the crepes were great but I'd like to mention a few things that bumped this down to just a 4 star experience. The limited time drinks didn't have the prices listed on their special menu. I think that, if they read this review, they should write the prices next to all items they offer. Also, they forgot to charge my bf for his crepe and didn't put in his order so the other 3 of us had our crepes for a few minutes already before he asked where his was. They apologized and whipped his up immediately so he didn't have to wait in line. They still had him pay at the end though. Oh well! And lastly, they ABSOLUTELY need better ventilation here - your clothes will smell like fried food until you get home and wash them! Don't wear something non-washable here haha.
