My wife and I ate here for our anniversary dinner. The staff is very kind and knowledgeable on the drinks and food menu and specific ingredients and how the flavors come together. Our server did great offering suggestions that were very tasty. We sat outside by the water on a nice sunny day. Loved that atmosphere and vibe. Only reason I slightly downgraded atmosphere was because of the amount of flys while you're trying to eat. Big drink menu with lots of good sounding drinks. Our waiter also suggested a wine and brought one for us to sample, to which we enjoyed and ordered a glass of it later. Large menu with mostly seafood options. I'm not a big seafood eater, but was easily able to find some menu items without seafood if you also aren't into fish. They started out by providing us a complimentary app, maybe because it was our anniversary. Not something I'd typically order but was very flavorful and good. Apps mostly have seafood in them, and I was adventurous and tried the lobster ravioli. Very impressive flavors. For dinner, I ordered the beef Wellington and my wife got a veal dish with scallops. Well prepared, fresh, with good flavoring. My only constructive criticism on the food would be recommending more seasoning on the fillet. We opted not to order a dessert because we were full but our waiter brought out a complimentary cherry chocolate moose because of the anniversary celebration. Portion sizes are smaller and the dishes are pricey, but you are getting top tier food if you're celebrating anything special. Staff takes there time which won't rush you. Gives you time between each and every course. If you do drinks, apps, and entry, you'll probably be there for 2 hours. I would recommend them for special occasions!

I have been wanting to dine at ChezFrançois Restaurant for a solid 10 years but I've not had a chance to do so. I was finally able to dine here in July 2025 and the hype is real. This place is fantastic. It's not quite in Cleveland, but I would say it is top one or two within a short drive of downtown Cleveland. I dined in the main dining area and I was quite surprised that the interior is very rustic and it's a very old building. There are exposed brick walls and brick flooring, which was something I did not expect but is very unique. I do respect that they have a dress code and a reservation system so people off the street who aren't dressed to impress cannot just walk in. The service was spectacular and we were always taken care of every bit of the dining experience. Our dining crew stopped at the Touché bar to have a drink prior to dinner. Overall, our dinner experience was four hours, but it was well worth the time spent. A menu it was spectacular. The menu is huge and it really takes a long time to figure out what you'd like. It would be a good idea to check out some reviews with pictures so you can get an idea of this wonderful menu.

Extremely slow service and below mediocre food that is extremely overpriced. We started off with their amuse bouche--why include an amuse if you can't execute? It tasted like a canned garbanzo bean salad and instead of the foam they touted, it ended up being a gloppy soup on top. The actually corn soup with scallops we ordered was decent. Everything after that was downhill. The fried artichokes were very soggy and tasted sour, our stuffed zucchini blossoms just tasted soggy and bland and had very little lobster. The beef Wellington was okay tasting--unfortunately the bottom of the puff pastry was soggy and one of the two sauces was completely flavorless and had a cornstarch film that developed which was extremely unappetizing to look at and even worse to eat. If we were to ever come back, it would to just get a drink.

Great restaurant!! We loved the food and atmosphere. Our reservation was at 4:30 and we had to hurry to get out by 7:45, so be prepared for a longer experience. We had a show at 8 so we weren't able to get any dessert.

Tucked away on the lake in a sleepy little town this restaurant in so special. I had dinner here the weekend of my bachelorette and it was perfect. The cocktails were amazing as was the food. The staff were so welcoming. I'm dying to visit again.

Absolutely outstanding food, service, surroundings. This restaurant cannot be topped!!!!! The only issue we had as a group was navigating the many steps required for entrance, exit and visiting the restrooms. Wonderful restaurant and staff. I could not recommend more highly.

What a lovely gem in the charming lakeside town of Vermilion, OH. Celebrating my birthday and on a friend's referral, we had an amazing dining experience. I highly recommend this pricey but well worth the price bistro! Food, service, and charming decor hit all the buttons.

This was a birthday celebration for us. What a wonderful evening! We have been wanting to have a special meal here for sometime and it did not disappoint! The ambience was really beautiful and charming. It felt like we were actually in France. The service was impeccable. The food was excellent. We both had the Beef Wellington. It was so tender and delicious!I had the lobster bisque and it was amazing! Full of lobster claw meat and the pastry on top was light and flaky. We will definitely have to come back again

I love a lot of restaurants in northeastern Ohio, but this one stands above the rest. The service is impeccable. The patio is beautiful with views of the river and beautiful decor with Persian rugs, pictures, live plants, and comfortable chairs. The drink menu was endless and our cocktails were fantastic ( Hugo spritz and Negroni). Our appetizer (lobster stuffed zucchini blossoms were perfectly cooked) and our entrees were delicious as well, but what I really loved were the extra touches like the aperitif and dessert drinks that were served with our dessert. We were so glad we tried a new place for our anniversary. Can't wait to go back!

Great special occasion spot! Highly recommend a riverfront reservation. Even on an 80 degree night, the breeze off the water was enjoyable. I am not a big meat lover so I often get salads and vegetarian options. I didn't see much available so I asked and I'm so glad I did! The veggie risotto was AMAZING. French onion soup has beef stock but was also tasty. Even had a bite of my husband's filet and loved it Still drooling this morning. Great service, expansive cocktail list (we had a few ). Splurge and go here at least once. $250 including tip for a few hours on a summer night to celebrate 13 years of marriage was a great idea. Thanks, hubs.

There is a reason that you're asked by every employee you encounter during your first visit, if you're there to celebrate anything. Is it your birthday? Your anniversary? You're asked because Chez Francois is categorically one of the best restaurants in the midwest, and certainly the top 5 in the state of Ohio, and it is the kind of place you want to take someone when you want them to feel extra special. Us? We weren't there to celebrate anything other than being alive, and after our dinner we have decided to come back often, to normalize the experience, to treasure the quality of food and service, and to enjoy ourselves as much as we possibly can while we're still upright and clear headed. We'll keep the birthday and anniversary dinners to places we don't want come back to too often. Chez Francois is somewhere we'd love to eat at weekly, if only we could justify the cost. Everything on the menu is expertly and classically prepared, using as much freshness and quality as you would hope for. The service we experienced was on some next level hospitality you would associate with truly fine dining, which this is. We've been talking about going for years. It's been on our radar as soon as we learned about. We've KNOWN we needed to go, but that 1.5 hour drive from Toledo to Vermillion always made it feel too out of reach. Now that we've visited, we're going to plan ahead, get a hotel room, and just enjoy the weekend in town as frequently as our calendars and wallets will allow. This restauraunt is perfection as far as we're concerned.

How is their tasting menu? What is the cost without wine pairing?

The tasting menu was fantastic. I would highly recommend! It is $125 for the tasting menu $175 with the wine paring. They do not pour lightly, so if you like wine I would also do the pairing.

Has anyone ever used Uber or Lyft from the Cleveland area to visit this restaurant? My concern is returning back home. I realize the restaurant has car services listed on the website, but prefer Uber.

We usually stay at the local Holiday Inn express or B&B. It might be difficult or cost prohibiting for Uber since it is 45 min+ from Cleveland. It may be hard to find Uber from Vermillion.

When we finally wanted to make a move to go during Valentine's, it was temporarily closed. Alas, we had to wait until the end of year for my birthday when it reopened to try it out. So I my anticipation and expectations were quite high at this point. This place really is more like a 2.5 star BUT I wanted to sprinkle a little recognition to the very solicitous (and attractive) servers as well as available parking. This place is billed as a French restaurant but their updated menu was completely devoid of all French items. This was a major bummer as I love French food and style of cooking. No duck, escargot, confit, nada. It was a bland menu with common Italian dishes. I ordered the pasta carbonara for my entree and was thoroughly disappointed. They used bucatini (while this is one of my fave pasta shapes) which is all wrong for carbonara. There was a lack of sauce as you can see from the picture and no eggy flavor at all. It was drenched in parmesan flakes and they didn't even use guanciale or even pancetta! The portion was too small for a pasta dish and for the high price. Our appetizer of pork belly was delish but I would've gone easier on the frying. BF's entree of spatchcock chicken was great as well. I ate a lot of that instead of my entree... Not impressed that in a place like this, they asked if we wanted to tack on bread service for $5.99. Wow, they can't even include it like most restaurants? Non merci! I look forward to going to a real French restaurant a lot closer to me with real French dishes and perhaps even free bread/rolls, literally SOMEthing. The newer one in Chagrin Falls looks tempting and authentic!

We arrived on time. The parking was $3.00. The restaurant is in an old carriage house on the campus of Case Western Reserve University. We were placed in a the back room near a mini door by a window and a view of the patio garden. The inside was very nice. I am a bit claustrophobic so I sat with my back to the corner while my husband had a view of the corner. Fortunately, he could see the patio which he liked. The other downside, was the couple of flies that kept buzzing to and fro around the window, We joked that we wanted inside on the nice late afternoon / early evening to avoid bugs. Hahaha. We laughed at that too as our week had us on Lake Erie covered with midgies one day and then biting flies a few days later. Gotta laugh, but I digress. L'Albatros! Our server Kyle and the team did a great job! We had water, bread with olive oil, as needed. We started with cocktails and the "French Toast". My husband enjoyed a nice white wine and I had the L'Albatros Original ( Absinthe, Lime, Pineapple, Mint ). I loved the cocktail, it was just a tad sweet, but the flavor was super ! The "French Toast" was a substantial slice of French toast covered with ragout of wild mushrooms and balsamic syrup and micro greens and shaved parmesan. It was lovely. My husband LOVES mushrooms, so this was perfect. For our mains, he ordered the shrimp pasta. Kyle shared that the cream sauce is made with Pernod, which my husband is not a fan of Anise/ black licorice,so he would not enjoy. Kyle offered that they could do a vodka cream sauce instead. This was a much better option for him and he really enjoyed. I ordered the Root Vegetable Cassoulet. It was topped with some breadcrumb mixture. It was the least successful part of the dish. While I normally like a crumble, this has an odd texture. The root vegetables were perfectly cooked and the sauce was delicious. For dessert, my husband ordered cheesecake. I had a bite and it was tasty. I ordered a cappuccino and it was made perfectly. Definitely a place we would both be happy to return to. Well done service, food and ambiance!

We were able to try a variety of dishes, and everything felt thoughtfully prepared and made from scratch. Standouts for us included the vol-au-vent with escargot, rosti, filet mignon, scallops, sea bass, and the rich, creamy French onion soup. The flavors were well-balanced, the presentation was colorful, and some elements even had a fun, interactive touch (like the Parmesan crisp). One thing that sets this place apart is how versatile it is. It offers a bar area with happy hour, a strong cocktail and mocktail selection, and French-inspired bar bites like mussels and steak. There's also a more formal dining room for a sit-down experience, plus a private dining space available (free Mon-Wed, fee the rest of the week). They've also recently opened a café next door, which is worth checking out on its own--great selection of pastries, macarons, crepes, and coffee, along with wines, cheeses, and other French specialties. The atmosphere is elegant but still comfortable, and the service was attentive and professional throughout our visit. We were really happy with our delicious crepes but were mixed on our drinks. The crepes are huge and definitely worth the money! I can only speak for mine but I thought my Hawaiian crepe had a generous serving of ham and pineapple inside and the pineapple sauce was chunky and slightly spicy!
