This was the most informative and enjoyable wine tasting experience my husband and I have had in the many years of wine tasting in various parts of the U.S. Our wine connoisseur, Alessia Valerio, (with her beautiful Italian accent) was extremely personable and informative from beginning to end, explaining and offering wonderful information on the harvesting, the actual wine making process, as well as the many possible variations of wine based on the various grapes being used. Not only did she provide wonderful information on the making of wine but also on the pairing of wine with food because she is also a personal Italian chef, available for private functions or intimate dinners. We have been twice. The wine tasting is a good way to spend some time on a Sunday. We usually don't do much white wine. We tasted the Viognier the first time we were there. It was actually pretty good. We bought a couple bottle to bring to my daughters on Thanksgiving. It was about six weeks out. The other wines were OK. We had a good time. The second visit they were out of Viognier but we had a glass of one of their reds. Enjoyable time as well On Thanksgiving we opened the Viognier to share some Arizona wine we thought was pretty good. Unfortunately we found it was brown, look like dull apple cider. We took a sip, and it was bitter and awful. We thought sometimes that happens. We opened the second bottle and it was the same. We stored it in our wine cooler. We kept it cool on the drive to LA. This was recommended by a friend and a group of 10 of us went for a winetasting on a Sunday afternoon. It was really interesting because they are open 12-5PM and we had reservations for 4pm, but then when we went to look for a table there was not any available so they decided to set us outside directly in the sun. The host was very quick to rush us out the door to meet the 5 o'clock closing even though we were told that 6 PM was when we could stay until when the reservations were booked. For food they do have an option of a charcuterie board in a box (you assemble), sample wine for $12 with a spectacular view. Had to pull teeth (figuratively for them to take a photo of our group). When you go to pay they only have one machine instead of using digital apps to pay, you email or call for reservations, and their wine is priced $22-38 a bottle. ....not something that I would likely to return for. Didn't feel welcomed whatsoever! read more

We went to a wine tasting at Old Pueblo Cellars on a Sunday afternoon. They weren't very busy so we were able to get a last minute tasting. All the wines were so good and don't have any preservatives or sulfites. We ended up buying a bottle of the Malvasia Bianca. The bottles are so pretty and will be so perfect for a flower case or decor piece. Our server was very knowledgeable on all the wines, very friendly and welcoming. Well, we arrived at the winery!!! Yes, it's hidden no signs on main roads to find it, just google map it!!! Once inside we were told that if you want wine tasting, you need to call to make a reservation (contrary to what I had read) . It wasn't busy, only about 4 or 5 other people there!!! But still told to call by the hostess, instead of saying let me see if anything is available!!! She didn't go out of her way to help, she needs customer service teaching!!! First off, Old Pueblo has a beautifully decorated tasting room. I did not have high expectations for an Arizona winery and the wines dropped below that. Our server, Lance, stated that he only had a few months experience and it was obvious. He was unable to answer many questions I had about their wines. The lackluster flavor could be from the fact that they add no sulfites to their wine. I would not recommend this location. read more

Bad hostess! Poor service for our party of 7. Often ignored us even though only 2 other couples were in tasting room. Forgot to serve 2 of us two of the 5 wines. Publicly chastised me for bringing in a bottle of water (no water was offered to us) and crackers, telling me there was a sign on the door this was not allowed. (I later checked and barely found a 2 inch note taped to a window.). Worst of all she added a 18% tip not only for the tasting (which was ok to do), but also to the bottle of wine and tax. read more

i went for the first time on Thursday and waited until today to see if I would calm down. Well, I still feel the same way. Ambience was great. The woman working behind the bar was horribly rude. I mentionned I was moving out of the area and she asked where to. She spent the next several moments saying awful things about my choice. We loved our wine tasting experience here yesterday! Alessia took great care of us, she was a hoot - perfect job for her! Pre-make your wine-tasting appointment - there were 6 of us there for the noon tasting. We tasted 2 delicious whites, which were very floral, and fruity. They don't filter the grapes, so these whites look a bit orangy, and makes for a very different and interesting wine. The red's were also very good! It's quite cool to see a saguaro growing right in the middle of the grape vines! There are Boarshead cheese and meat packs for purchase to go with your wine, and Alessia was kind enough to give a pack of crackers. The tasting room was beautiful and inviting. I also love the cool blue bottle with the cactus that the wine comes in! You can only purchase the wine at the winery, and the prices are very reasonable with the most expensive bottle being $35.00. What a nice Friday afternoon excursion! I was looking for something to do with my niece for her birthday, we both like wine. So I was searching on Yelp and found this little gem literally in our backyard. I called and made reservations for a party of six, Roger the owner took my reservation, he was so nice and welcoming. When we arrived, it was exactly as others on Yelp described, the vineyard was right in the middle of the desert, the tasting room was welcoming, nice & cool from the afternoon heat. Alessia the host was quirky but cute, full of Italian humor, and made us feel comfortable, knowing we were there to be educated on the local winery and it's commodities. She was very knowledgeable and entertaining. After tasting the six wines they offer ($10 per person, does not include wine glass, but you can purchase one to take home) we were more than happy to buy a bottle, we're not wine connoisseurs, but I have to say they are really good. I was surprised to learn they just opened the tasting room in May, I highly recommend to give them a try and support local businesses. I plan to visit again! read more

Stopped at Old Pueblo Cellars this past weekend. Note that they require reservations (though at the time, they were not busy and they were able to accommodate us). The wine was decent - 5/6 I would drink again (as a matter of personal preference). The grounds are beautiful, though the outside seating could stand to have a little more shade. Old Pueblo Cellars is a HIDDEN GEM, like finding GOLD in your backyard. We were instantly and pleasantly surprised by the graceful vineyards and manicured grounds while taking the tree covered walking path from the parking area to the tasting room. Signage is well placed and clearly marked to deter confusion from the structures of the adjacent bed and breakfast. (Yes, there is a luxurious bed and breakfast next door to the winery....search air b and b for Luxe Tucson Vineyard Home with Views & Fire Pit, as it is, it's own right, mind blowing.) Once we entered the establishment, we were immediately greeted by the sweet smile of Alessia (pronounced eh-LEH-see-ya) and were treated like VIP's for the entirety of our visit. Knowledgeable, delightful, quick-witted and quite the entertaining conversationalist, Alessia truly created an enjoyable and relaxing environment. BTW, the tasting room is about as comfortable as they come and the outside seating area is simply enchanting. Wines were outstanding; particularly the Malbec and Viognier, however the Malvasia was the highlight of our visit. Other very nice wines we enjoyed were the Petite Sirah, Sangiovese and Tempranillo. Tasting is $10 for the flight and RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED to insure they don't exceed their capacity. Tasting times are limited to 12:00, 2:00 and 4:00 PM and they are open 7 days/week, but don't pop-in spontaneously as you must CALL TO CONFIRM YOUR TASTING APPT BEFOREHAND...after all that's not too much to ask when you're about to discover gold in your very own back yard. read more

On a blistering Tucson summer day, we decided to explore a local winery in Tucson. Keith made reservations, with the owner, for the 2pm tasting. The owner, Roger, welcomed us at the entrance and told us we could "go right in." Once we got to the tasting room however, we were told we had to wait outside until the noon tasting was finished, despite 6 open bar seats. We are finally allowed in to the tasting room, but need to queue up because they have to take the payment. They have one payment processing machine. The female hostess informed us that we'd be sitting outside. It's 107F with 68% humidity. It's not comfortable outside submerged in a pool. We should have been told that we were going to be seated outside upon making the reservation. We had 2 gals tell us we could have their reservation because they were cancelling, and the hostess didn't budge. We're outside. We left. I saw Roger on the way out and told him, as he was the one who took the call. There's no way to pay online, choose your seats. There's no mention that you may be seated outside. I don't mind being outside when its my choice (and not summer). The hostess was rude. The process is chaos. It's an absolute debacle. They need to get it together. If I wanted to sit outside and drink wine, I'd have stayed home. We'll never return. read more

My mom booked a wine tasting for our family and I wasn't sure what to expect, since Arizona isn't really known for its vineyards. Upon arrival, I was highly impressed with the amazingly well kept grounds and continued to be blown away by the knowledgeable, highly accommodating and friendly staff, and finally the quality of the wine. We ended up leaving with six bottles and can't wait to go back again. First off this place is amazing and beautiful. Greeted with a huge welcome. Place clean. The only reason I am giving it 4 stats is the lack of changing out the wine glasses from white to red. Also no food. Overpriced boars head you can buy in a grocery store for half the cost. Glad to see they attempted to sell some kind of cheese plate. They don't have the license to sell food. Which is a little sad. It was more of a class room setting teaching us about the wine. At one point the lady that was telling us about the wine said let me put this into kindergartens terns. We are all adults. Another time she repeated herself 3x until eveone stopped talking. I would have gladly paid 30$ for change of wine glasses and some food and respect of NOT considering we are kids. Also we were the first ones there. Shoved into a corner on a uncomfortable metal chairs with no cushions and all the other chairs had cushions on them. Extremely disappointed in the presentation. This place is hands down one of the top new places to go visit in Tucson. My wife and I absolutely loved the wine tasting we attended here without the hassle of driving all the way to Sonoita/Elgin or Willcox. Their wine sommelier from Italy is extremely knowledgeable and hospitable during our visit. They offer 4 reds and 4 whites to try and they are the absolutely the BEST of the local wines we have tried and we have tried quite a few. We even bought bottles to give to our family in Boston for the holidays. They couldn't stop raving about the incredible taste and vibrance of the wines offered. I have even booked my company's holiday party this year at their tasting room to share the great experience with our clients. You will not be disappointed! Had an absolutely wonderful experience! We ended up here after other plans in the Tuscan area fell through and we googled "wineries near us". I called, and the man on the phone, Roger, was very helpful and said that normal tastings were 12, 2 and 4 I believe. It is the summer, and the off season here, so he told us to head on over (we would get there at 3:30) and they would help us out! The facility is beautiful and obviously time was spent landscaping and on the interior design. My mom and I were the only 2 people there at that time, and the bartender (or sommelier) was more than personable! Alessia (I believe her name was) was super chatty and really made us feel welcome. She could have poured our wine and kept to herself, but she really took time to talk with us and provide a fantastic experience! We did their wine tasting, brought a bottle home, and my mom bought earrings that they had for sale! We live about 2 hours away, but would definitely recommend stopping in here if you are in the area! read more
