This place in the tiny village of Florence, AZ is a gem of a find! Beautiful grounds with a couple of event venues. Wine tasting flights. Beer. They've food trucks that visit. They serve food, flatbreads, charcuterie boards and such. Live music. Such a cool place. The folks were great. They were attentive. If you read my reviews you know that outside me, my wife, and three children, there is my mother-in-law, and, my grandmother-in-law. In this Saturday afternoon my mother-in-law just got back from her trip to Greece. Normally someone would just sleep this day away, but she arrived rejuvenated. Let's go to Windmill Winery she insisted. Who was I to disagree?. We arrived on a lovely Saturday afternoon and had a quick walk around. The birds strategically placed all around the grounds was a nice touch. The koy feeding pound was nice with its running water providing some soothing ambient noise. We order a couple of bottles of wine and a couple of charcuterie boards. The options on the boards were very nice. The disappointing part is that it wasn't on a board. It came in a Styrofoam box. While not a big deal, it did take away from the ambiance and winery feel. Sorry, I don't remember the exact names of the bottles but I will do my best to distinguish them. Also... I'm a bit of a wine snob, but know nothing about wine. I just know what I like. I will start with the Pinot Grigio that's made at this winery. It had a bit of a sweet tinge to it. Not overpowering but definitely hits you on the back end. It was ok, but I don't really care for a sweetness in most my wines. We also had another Pinot Grigio that was not made at that location. That was more to my liking, with a nice dry back to it and a bit of bitterness. We also had a sweet white. I remember this one because they didn't really qualify it a Syrah, Reisling, or Moscato. They compared to a Reisling but I feel it was more adjacent to a Syrah. It was berry forward. Not for me but my grandmother loved it. After the two bottles we drank by the glass. My wife and I stuck with the imported Pinot and my in-law la stuck with the Syrah adjacent. We also ordered one of their flat bread pizzas. While it seemed as if they didn't really have much of a kitchen the pizza was a pleasant surprise. We really enjoyed it. As it got later in the afternoon people began to leave. We were among the last to start to leave, but as we were walking out you could see cars began to arrive and they were in the stages of setting up for an even event with a band. I will surely return for that. I love live music and pair with wine and food... well then you just stole my heart. Great place to visit. read more

Stomp, stomp, stomp. Yes, I went to their grape stomping event held here annually. Ticket is available online in advance. Stomp only ticket include a glass of wine. Upon arrival, they have chairs set up where you take off your shoes. They kindly took my phone to take pictures of us. He did so well, it was fun looking back all the pictures he took. Once you stomp on grapes to your heart content, they have a small pool available to clean your feet, and clean towel to dry. I heard about wine stomping event at several of winery I visited somewhere, and I actually got to do so near where I live. Interesting but not sure if I want to do it again. Customer service was excellent. Friendly and kind. They made our experience more memorable. They have nice cafe to enjoy some food with your wine here. Ground is so beautiful. Perfect for wedding. If I ever get married again, I would definitely this place as a wedding venue. read more

The windmill winery is a hidden gem in the east valley! We were looking at wedding venues and stumbled upon this oasis. It has great food their flatbreads are super yummy! They have a great selection of wines and a few meads. My husband is obsessed with their Pinotage wine. We have drove there about four times since finding it from Chandler. A hidden gem when we arrived, I was not expecting the most perfect outdoor patio, delicious wines, excellent service, and one of my favorite salads I've ever had (came dairy free without having to make substitutions, very fresh!!) & my mom's flatbread was delicious too! My husband and I went here for the first time. We each had our own wine flights in tiny wine glasses. You could not really swirl the wine in these glasses to get the smell before you taste. Our server disappeared after she delivered our wine. It was pretty quiet in the tasting room. I am confused as to why they sell other company's wines in their tasting room. I have never seen that before. Generally you only sell your wine at your own winery. It appears to me the attention here is only spent on weddings and their evening events. If you come early just to taste then the experience is nothing. No one working there spoke about their wines nor asked if we might want to try something else. I am not coming back. There is no reason to drive out of our way for a non experience. read more

They don't really have food, but they usually have amazing food trucks there. They have good drinks, but I go there for the atmosphere more than anything. Well, Steff and I ventured out for our first Arizona wine tasting together. Choosing The Windmill Winery in Florence, we were not disappointed. Only a 30 minute drive South from our house, it's close, has nice wines to choose from, the staff is pleasant and the atmosphere is laid back, very relaxing! Make sure you check the website before and plan ahead. I didn't and later checked it out only to find out they were having live music and food service beginning at 5:00. We left about 15 minutes prior and came home, only to discover our error at home. The tasting room area is spacious and would be a great group atmosphere in the Fall through Spring months. They do have a nice inside air conditioned area for the summer, but it might get a bit crowded for a group. We will return with friends and family! read more

Don't trust the GPS!!! Great place in the middle of nowhere. We visited after dark in an area we know nothing about the GPS was taking us in circle's at the end but luckily they had a giant bonfire going and I could find it from there. We sat for some live music and my girlfriend tried some of the wines and the lady at the counter was very helpful with the wines of their area. The hand kept coming around and stoking the fires and making sure everyone was ok and even saved a few ladies from a something scampering across the ground. We stayed one night using our Harvest Host membership. Big large lots to park in on dirt/gravel with no hook-ups. Check in at wine tasting room and good email and map on where to park. 7 of us took a wagon ride pulled by to ponies, free but alway tip! Wedding was taking place during our visit but wasn't a problem. My sisters enjoy there flights and purchased 3 more bottles which they drank, with help from others in RV that night. Owner was on site and sold my sister 3 palm trees for $75. The winery use to be a nursery. Had fun! read more

Very pretty winery and tasting room. Ample size tasting room with places to sit at a bar or comfortable chairs and love seats. Had a selection of 2 flights and 5 wines within those flights. $10 per flight, $14 if you wanted the souvenir glass with their logo and name on it. We were there about 1 o'clock on a Friday afternoon. A little busy with 1 person working the counter. She was not as knowledgeable as other people that we have encountered at other tasting rooms/wineries we've gone to as far as what she knew about the wines but she was personable and friendly. The venue is beautiful and I can see why it would be a very popular place for weddings although it would be a bit of a drive to get there from surrounding areas like Phoenix. However, the lady did mention they do about 200 weddings a year so its a popular place for them! The venue is closed down the whole month of July and the first 2 weeks in August; I am sure because of the extreme heat that can occur during that time. All in all, it was a pleasant experience. I am not sure we'll be back in the area and I'm not sure we'll drive down to check it out again, but it was worth at least 1 visit there. read more

We were really excited to experience this unique place. There were 2 weddings taking place so I understood that they were busy. However it being our first time we felt they were not knowledgeable about the layout nor were they of the wine tasting itself. I thought this place was a little hokey. Hard to find my way from parking lot past a couple of donkeys and chickens. This place may be better for a wedding. I was at a conference. Barn like room was stuffy, chairs uncomfortable, food below average for lunch. Before meeting was a food truck outside with coffee and cellophane wrapped coffee cakes. I love this winery simply because it's 30 minutes from my house, and there are fun things to do Wed-Friday such as lawn games, food trucks, and live music. They were out of the new white so substituted our flight with another, and the Chardonnay was really good! Almost like butter. But not. Creamy like an aioli. But not. Catching up on my reviews from recent adventures! I had company in town from Cali so the natural thing to do is find a great winery up close to Phoenix right? So I this one is a bit out of the way and the drive out there is a bit daunting. From the website you would never know this is literally 4 blocks outside of downtown Florence. It really is more of a wedding venue than a true winery. Went on a Friday afternoon. Got there and there was no staff to let us know how to get around the place, just a lot of little wooden signs. There was a big group who had rented out the place for lunch so that's where everyone was. Once I found the tasting room there was only one staff member to do tastings, give you info, and serve the party so if she was busy you were a bit lost. I never got any info on the place and there wasn't much available to find on my own. Although the wine tasting was cheap ($5 for 3 tastes) most of the wine wasn't from the area. I went through the bottles in my own that were on the counter to find out which ones were actually from the winery itself (or even AZ). It was peaceful and cozy but unlike a tasting room you would be used to. Had a good adventure with company but I would travel out of your way unless you were going to a wedding. read more

Charming "Midwest" establishment in the middle of the desert. If you are ever in town visiting Florence, AZ then you must stop by for a stroll at the Windmill Winery. Wine tasting is $10 and is inside a renovated, old-fashioned horse stable. There's marble counter tops and old antiques strewn about. They've also recreated a brick aqueduct that spans the length of a man-made pond they have also put in on property. The owners have really put a lot of time, money, and design into this place to attract tourists and wedding parties. read more

Although they are making their own wine yet they have some "private label" wines and a great selection of other wines and beers available. The staff is awesome and the ambience is very cool.
