I love this place... in a food landscape that seems to be quickly deteriorating in this area, Old Republic has become a beacon of hope for small businesses and creative eats. I can't say that we've ever had a menu item that we didn't care for (but between you and me, the Naughty Nachos w/ the brisket are hands down the best thing going). Their chicken fingers and fish fry are perfectly done and the burgers are unique and offer just the right amount of 'different' to have you wanting to try another one on your next visit. The kids meals are topped-off with a carafe of milk and a cookie, which is fun for the kiddos and really helps to keep it 'family-friendly'. The atmosphere is 'alive' and just sends out a really great vibe. What I love the most, is that the owners are ALWAYS engaged with their patrons. I've yet to have a dinner there without seeing them coming around to smile and converse with their guests. MOST of the wait staff is fantastic with exception to a couple that just don't seem to jive with the overall feel of what they are trying to create. Maybe we just caught them on a tough night... If I had one critique - while they offer a fantastic selection of domestic and local craft beers on draft, it never seems quite cold enough to me. A great meal deserves an ice cold beverage from start to finish. Other than that, I really hope they continue to just do what they've been doing. My first time here was mediocre. The second time was so much better. The Italian beef sandwich was surprisingly good.. I think it may have been the best I've had. My wife and I go to Old Republic for the half price burgers on Mondays. I really enjoy the different choices of burgers, and I am a burger junkie. I would give 5 stars, but I can never get my burger cooked to the correct temperature. The server will always say Med or Well, you don't get any other choice. A good burger should be med-rare. Only once did I get it that way. When I do ask for my burger I tell them as close to med-rare as possible and it always comes well done. I do not understand why we cannot order med-rare. That being the case, if you are only going to offer med or well, then med should be med with pink in the center of the burger. No one wants to always send a meal back because it isn't cooked right. We love the chips and the fries that come with the sandwiches. Sometimes the hard part is choosing between the 2. The staff is great and the place always seems clean. Old republic is the place to go if you want good food, big portions, and friendly staff. The food was great! We ordered the big thunder mountain french fry plate which was MASSIVE. We also ordered the shrimp tacos and the buffalo chicken sandwich. The sandwich was huge and it was awesome. The tacos were good as well. The service was great and we will definitely be coming back. Our food was packaged up in standard white styrofoam containers to take home for left overs. The next day we did find some sort of red chunk of hard plastic inside one of the tacos. Definitely not a deal breaker, accidents happen, but its a good thing it was found. We still have no idea what it was to this day. It was about the size of kidney bean. Customer service and responsiveness was A+ from start to finish and the food package was perfect for our group of High School athletes and their families. We ordered, about 4 minutes later we're told they were out of ribs. How do you run out of ribs BEFORE the dinner hour? We ended up leaving and are headed to The Texan in Algonquin. Haven't ever been a fan of Old Republic but my husband wanted to go there. I won't be returning. This is the third time I've been disappointed. No thanks. Ordered the Wisconsin Mac n Cheese on Markos recommendation and man was he spot on. $6 pitchers of Craft beers are such a great value in the area! Usually you hate to be bothered when eating but manager Chris made sure my dining experience was satisfactory from start to finish. I second Michael's first review. We'd seen the "coming soon" signs and were heading to Applebees when we saw the sign said "now open." They'd been open 90 minutes and the place was packed. Lots of people at the bar. The owner is the guy that did the "Munger Road" movie and the decor is of places important to him...New York, California, Chicago, etc. Lots of tv's showing sports. Managers and servers were all over us, asking our opinions, clearing dishes, etc. Drinks served in Mason jars. There's a room marked Game Room, but it's empty...curious to see what goes in there. Now to the food: outstanding. We had mac and cheese bites for an appetizer, very good. I had the smoked turkey salad, which is a pile of the sandwich filling on lettuce with avocado, strawberries, mandarins and more. The turkey salad is also available as a sandwich and has grapes and sunflower seeds in it. The smokiness of the turkey is amazing and makes an ordinarily bland dish something special. My husband had the brisket sandwich, tender and flavorful, with the grizzly fries (costs extra)--delicious! We were both stuffed. Two soft drinks, appetizer, two entrees and two upgrades, $45.
