The old guard of pizza joints in Bensalem, Old Roman's been around since 1971. In the early 80's I think it was only Old Roman and the Pizza Hut on Street Road that I can remember before Tony's Pizza came on the scene. I've never really eaten much from these guys because their pizza is more of the New England/Greek style, pan little greasy. Just not my fav. My wife is a huge fan of the chicken in their Caesar Salad so I had to at least try it. The inside is a bit dated, but clean. The staff seemed nice. Menu prices are on the higher end. Their wings in a mild "house sauce" were small and bland. The sauce needed some major work. The Buffalo chicken wrap was drippy and not appetizing. Fries were bland, chicken fingers were small and flavorless. The only thing worth my two visits was the grilled chicken Caesar wrap. The chicken was seasoned well, fresh and delicious. The wrap was well put together with fresh lettuce and the lettuce wasn't drenched in dressing. I'd give them 3.5, but I'd have to try more menu items that are worthwhile for the price. Having said that, the Chicken Caesar wrap/salad are worth a visit. read more

Great hidden gem of Bensalem. I like other pizza places more so than others for various items. Old Romans "gravy" (for my Italian readers) / marinara sauce is over the top delicious! I hate doughy pizza, Stromboli's, etc. that are too cheesy and undercooked. I always ask for these type of items to well done, and Old Roman nails it every time! The pizza is made in a pan, the crust is delicious, toppings perfectly added, and yes, well done when you ask! I highly recommend their steak Stromboli- well done of course! read more

Food is good but the service is not. Twice within a month my order was wrong. The first time I let it go. Tonight, several items were wrong. When I called, I was given an attitude, as if it were my fault. There was no apology from either of the two people I spoke with. I had to laugh at the photo showing of the soup guy, because the owner is very much brash with a bit of attitude, but the pizza is still well Worth the visit. This place hasn't changed at all in 23 plus years. I don't see many eating at the tables, but rather calling in delivery orders or picking up orders. The owner even looks the same from what I remember and while the prices aren't listed on the board, nothing has changed. Was a customer with Old Roman for well over 15 years. Called an order in for delivery. After giving the order to the young lady, over the phone, she asked me to hold on for a moment. She then came back on the phone and asked me for my order. When I told her I just gave you my order, she said, "oh, hold on." She then hung up on me. Now I was irate, so I called back and some man answered. When I told him you hung up on me, he proceeded to tell me how busy he was and offered no apology. Then started screaming at me, repeatedly asking me, "do you want the order or not?" And then said, "go somewhere else for your food," and then hung up on me. A few minutes later, the young lady calls me and repeatedly asks, "do you want the order or not?" When I said no, she said ok. This place seems to be under the impression that they're doing me a favor by allowing me to order food from them. Where a simple apology for what transpired could have saved a loyal customer, they chose to be arrogant and independent. Fortunate for me, there are nearly a dozen pizza establishments in the Bensalem area. Maybe someday Old Roman will wake up and realize what the definition of a customer is, but for now, good bye and good riddance Old Roman. Excellent reubens, salads, fries, steaks. The pizza is unique. It's all pan. Not a pan fan but the cheese and toppings are great and make this very enjoyable, almost perfect in fact. I very rarely ask for pepperoni (usually plain for me) but the pepperoni here is awesome and really ties the pizza together. Beware of ordering too many vegetables on the pizza... They put a lot on there and it can be overwhelming and will make things wet. Food is always hot as hell when it arrives, but I'm very close by. Orders are accurate too. Food has been cooked correctly every time. I also very much appreciate that they use the foil-backed paper to wrap sandwiches. It does a good job of holding in the heat/moisture. About the service, I think the owner is friendly. I'm not totally disagreeing with the first pic submitted here, he will try to hustle you along if you act as though it's the first time you've ever ordered food in your life. If you order a cheesesteak, tell him what you want on it while you order it. Don't make him drag it out of you at the end of the order. My family ordered from here for decades. Recently my fiancee and I ordered a white Sicilian advertised as having NO SAUCE. What was delivered for$26 was a re-baked plain Sicilian they scraped marinara off of. The crust was burnt BLACK. When I called them out over the phone I was given a load of and told they put "a little red sauce" on white Sicilian pizza to keep the cheese in place... Upgrading to 5 stars after trying more food here. Wings , were great, hoagies very good , even the onion rings were very good , with breadcrumbs , not batter and done just right. Really, I thought I was in University City again chowing down on one of those pieces of garbage. The pizza looks just like those, where the crust is oddly flat and dense and there's the impression that it was pre-made. I won't go so far as to say it was as bad as many of the UC pizzas I've reviewed; the ingredients were markedly better than some of them. However, for the general area, it doesn't make the grade. I do not know how this place has more than 2 stars in ratings. I recently moved to the area from New Jersey and was told that the "old" pizzerias are the best in town. We tried Old friends first and it was pretty average nothing bad, but not good. This place however was miserable. My chicken Francaise was fishy and rubbery. My pizza was tasteless and greasy. I was first introduced to Old Roman Pizza by a friend, who wanted to treat me to something special and unique--and boy, I wasn't disappointed. Their menu is very extensive and affordable, but perhaps what impressed me the most was their pizza. Their pizza is insanely delicious and although their larges are only 14", your money is definitely well spent. The only downside to the establishment is their lack of a true dine-in experience; it's quite tiny and isn't really cozy because of that. Ordered a cheesesteak, the sandwich was okay but it tasted like they used cheap meat, had a funky taste. The worst part was when I called to check the status on the delivery the girl that answered the phone was very rude. I told her I wanted to check the status of my order and she said , did you order online? I said yes, she then said are you going to give me your name? Address? Anything? So not only is my pizza red sauced when it should be white, broccoli is on it when online it says spinach. But thats not the icing on the cake! I called up the other day for a delivery order to get some cheesesteaks. I asked for two cheesesteaks and he was about to hang up. I asked, "Don't I get to add toppings or choose the cheese?" and he very rudely replied - "It's a cheesesteak - you get meat and cheese - what else you want?" I said, "I don't get to pick the cheese I want?" and he responded frustrated "OKAY. WHAT KIND YOU WANT?". Then I tried to add toppings and he was clearly frustrated and kept saying "IS THAT ALL, IS THAT ALL!?" Just overall terrible customer service. This is my first time stopping here. Me and my hubby were at the laundromat nearby, and were hungry, so this place was right next door, and we decided to have a few slices of pizza. I had plain, and hubby had one plain and one mushroom. First, the pizza was fresh and piping hot when we received it! Second, the crust was perfect! Third, although the slices weren't as saucy as I prefer, they were great slices! The mushroom slice was really good! The cheese was just right! You can eat in or take out. Stopped in for lunch today and Andy(owner) god bless him is still on the job. He has done some updates to his shop. The new signage stands out very well now so you won't drive by & miss one of the best italian meals you'll ever had. Andy offers much more than just pizza and has a full menu of various italian dishes that are made with care and you can taste it. If he was in a down town location he would be a 5 star restaurant ( no joke ). I just wished i lived closer so i could have the delicious food more often. Really wanted a good slice of pizza. This wasn't it. In fact, it was one of the worst! Only to be beaten in the worst pizza category by frozen grocery store no-frills pizza. Crust was thick and doughy. Sauce was red... that's about it. Appeared to be lightly painted on and absolutely tasteless. Cheese was loaded on and then melted in the oven until all that could be seen of the slice was just a mass of cheese. $1.97 for the slice. I ate 1/3 before I realized it wasn't getting any better. Last night purchased a Stromboli and hot wings. After 20 years going there with new owner but same cooks it was fine. There are now new cooks and my cheese steak stromboli was over cooked and with less meat. Also wings were hard and definitely overcooked. Me and my entire family (and extended family) have been ordering from Old Roman for years! I'm talking about when we first started ordering pizza from here I was just a kid too short to see over the counter. The pizza has not changed in the last 30 years!! Perfect every time, and great service. The owner is super friendly and also asks about my family. Really has that mom and pop type of feel. Their baked spaghetti and chicken cheesteak are also really great. I think we order take out about once a week or at least every other week! read more

I thought the pizza was fairly good. Not the best slice of pie, but definitely worth getting on a Friday or Saturday night when you don't feel like cooking. A lot of other great menu options as well besides pizza. The wings are pretty good and they have some great sides (broccoli bites, loaded cheese fries).
