My new favorite taco place!! I came with my friend this past saturday and it was so crowded! We were able to order and find a spot to sit pretty fast. Since it was my first time here, I ended up ordering 1 chorizo and 1 asada taco, churros, limon aguas, and my friend got the asada taco as well and a hortchata! Since it was super busy (especially on saturday night) it was about a 30 minute wait foe our food but it was well worth it! They hand out free chicharrones and they were super crunchy and a nice snack while we waited for our food. The limon aguas was super refreshing especially in the summer heat and the horchata was really good! We sat at the counter top that overlooks the kitchen. I love that the open kitchen concept so you can see them making your food right in front of you! Everything smelled so good so I was excited for my food. I love that they give radishes, cucumbers, and plenty of limes on the side. I definitely love all of the toppings and the more the better! I tried all of the salsas and the salsa de chile de arbol was by far my favorite! super spicy but had so much flavor. The chorizo was good but a little dry for my liking. I did just want to try it so I can try more than one flavor but I think I would get it again as a breakfast taco with egg instead. The asada was my favorite of the two so much flavor and plenty of meat! I was content with these 2 tacos but I could have definitely eaten more if we didn't order churros as well! The churros came with classic condensed milk and dulce de leche which is just carmelized condensed milk. The churros were crunchy and warm on the outside and had a chewy texture like mochi on the inside! Super yummy and not too sweet! I liked both sauces and would definitely get this again. There was a line when we were there on a Saturday around 3:30pm. As soon as we approach the restaurant, you can already smell the aroma of the meat. The line is slow moving but the smells signal that we are in for a treat. Waited for about 30 mins before we were able to order. While waiting, we were served pork rinds (chicharon) and it was warm and free! We even asked for seconds and gladly given another tray. We ordered tacos and also Jamaica drink. Tacos frontera was a great surprise. Some of the best tacos I have tried in a long time. The staff are super friendly and helpful always checking in and a quick service despite the business. The place makes you feel like you are in Mexico with traditional decoration and a long bar to sit at while watching the staff cook your food. The freshly fried chicharrón is a great starter, the mulitas are to die for and very well served, their aguas frescas are great to beat the heat, but the best thing is the made to order tortillas. It is hard to find a really good tortilla around but theirs are as good as they get. Warm, soft, chewy, thick enough to hold everything in place, and the best flavor. Updated review- Called the Mason location and spoke with Christian who passed the message along to Erik, the owner. Found out the beans come with pork in them but they are supposed to tell you that and ask if you want them on your food or on the side. He went above to rectify this and I greatly appreciate it. I ordered a chicken burrito yesterday. While eating, a piece of sausage fell out. I don't eat pork or beef and didn't know they had sausage until I looked at the menu when this happened and saw they do have sell sausage. Then a couple more bites in, another piece fell out. At this point I should've gave it back as we were eating inside the restaurant but the service is so good, the workers are friendly and the food is good and after opening up the rest of the burrito and seeing no more sausage, I finished that half. I'm warming up the other half of my burrito today and another piece of sausage falls out. Please see the pictures. So I call, speak to Giovanna and her response was, "next time I order, let them know I don't eat pork or beef so that it doesn't end up in my food." That is extremely dismissive and you're putting the responsibility on me as the customer! Thats not ok. I didn't order pork or beef so it shouldn't have ended up in my food anyway. And if I have to tell you what I don't eat so it doesn't end up in my food, I'm just not going to eat there. She didn't try to rectify this at all and it's disappointing. Tacos Frontera has been at the top of my "Try Soon" list for awhile. They're fairly new and made it's rounds on social media amongst all the food influencers in town. I can probably count on one hand how often I am in that particular side of town, so when I was, I made it a point to come here. It is located in the corner of a busy shopping strip. I came at lunch time and this place was busy as can be. Parking was tight and there was a line to the door. It is a little tight inside with tables set up close together. They also have bar top seating along the wall as well as facing the kitchen. It was packed in there, but seats opened up frequently to where no one was left standing. There's a huge menu on the wall, so know what you want before you get to the counter. I was a little nervous ordering as my Spanish isn't all that, but they switched to English right away and made it easy for me. The nice gal behind the counter asked if it was my first time and gave great suggestions. What they are known for is their Tijuana style tacos. On top of that, they also sell tortas, burritos, quesadillas, the popular quesabirria, and all the sides like elotes, chips, salsas, chicharrons, beans, fries and churros. Previous reviews said they give chicharrons while you wait but I guess I wasn't lucky that day as other tables did get it but not me. No biggie! As good as all the food looked, I came for the tacos. I honestly did not know what Tijuana style tacos were, but it was like all the other authentic tacos I've had with onions, cilantro but then an addition of a nice slathering of tasty guacamole. If that make's it Tijuanan, sign me up! I was told I had to get the carne asada (steak) and the adobada (marinated pork). I also got a salchicha (sausage) to round it out. One thing working against them is the wait times. It took awhile for my food to come out but when it did, it was nice and fresh. I was worried three tacos wouldn't fill me up, but these tacos were pretty big and filled to the brim with meat. They did not skimp on any of the tacos. I am not usually a corn tortilla fan, but these were nicely charred and help up great to all the toppings. All the meats were well seasoned and perfectly cooked and topped with fresh onions and jalapeno. The guac put it over the top and was a very welcome addition to the taco. They give three salsas of varying heats and I liked them all, but the hottest one was not only delicious, but packed the heat I look for in a hot sauce. I was stuffed and glad I did not order additional food. Overall, I will go ahead and put Tacos Frontera atleast in the top three taco places in Houston in my humble opinion. Went on a Tuesday night and it was PACKED which really speaks to how good the food is. I got 3 tacos (1 Asada, 1 Adobada (pork), and 1 pollo) and a cup of charro beans. The tacos were super filling and the meats are very well-seasoned. The beef and pork were juicy and tender and the best part about the meat is the charred grilled flavor they have. The tortillas were also freshly made in house and the guacamole was creamy and flavorful. I was also a big fan of the range of salsa's they had. They have mild to spicy so there's something for everyone. (9.8/10) The charro beans were standard overall and the perfect addition to this meal (6.5/10) The service is fast and though the is limited parking in the front of the restaurant, its apart of a huge shopping center with plenty of parking around. The tacos come standard, with onion, cilantro, and guacamole. Quesabirra tacos were phenomenal.. The bar was very tender. I love that they give you a side of lime and pickled onions. Once you add that to the Quesabirra tacos, and dip it in the consommé... I highly recommend this place. The hours are a little funky as they are open 11 to 2, and then 4 to 9 Monday through Friday. These are some of the best tacos I've had in my life. In Houston, we are blessed to have so many taco options, but this place stands out for several reasons, the first being the thicker homemade tacos. You can watch them being made right in front of you, and the Tijuana style adds that delicious charred-ness to the meat. I ordered the asada and adobada, and both were tasty. Additionally, this is the first place I've had that puts guacamole (at no extra charge) on your taco, which adds some freshness and balances out the traditional taco. I also love that they provide pork rinds and ample salsas for snacking, though be warned that the "mild" green salsa is still a bit spicy. The horchata I had was also delightful, and as a bonus they offered a free refill. They serve Tijuana style tacos, which is something that is not easy to find in Texas. They have 3 sets of salsas. The very spicy one was pretty hot and I didn't really use it since I wanted to get more flavor out of the tacos. The medium was tomatillo based and was not hot at all. The mild salsa is a jalapeño salsa and shoudlve been the medium spice, I recommend using this one. They give you cut cucumbers and radishes as well like Mexican taquerias do. The meats were perfectly tender and juicy. The guacamole goes so well with the taco and adds a smooth, tangy, and creamy texture.
