On a cold snowy day I decided finding a good local coffee and making a coffee shop my office for the morning was the right move. I'd heard about Old School but not yet tried it out so was the day to make it happen. Old School is inside an old school building in Dudley Square that now contains a variety of businesses like a spa and a yoga studio. Since it is inside, it's not immediately obvious that it exists or even how to get to the entrance. There are 10-15 parking spaces to the rear that are shared among the businesses in the building but another large lot that many don't notice across Mill St as well. There are large red doors on both the front and back of the building. You can find Old School by entering either of those and walking down the short hallway. The barista was friendly and happily talked to patrons about the coffee they served and the building itself. I went with a simple house roast drip coffee and was pleased. They do have a house blend but the beans are roasted elsewhere in Kentucky. My only knock is that I would prefer to have beans roasted in town just to keep everything as local as possible, but keeping it in state is the next best option. I'll be back and recommend you check them out as well! read more

Some advice: stay in school kids! But if you need a coffee break you can do both at Old School. On a java hunt one frosty morning downtown, I was pleased to brave the cold for this inviting place. My journey was on foot, but it's just as easy to park nearby, except maybe weekends, mid-morning, when everybody else has the same idea. It was a trip back in time with coffee at the end of the rainbow. Nice renovation of historic City School #3, although I kind of felt like somebody was going to give me a demerit walking in late for class. I'll take it if they add coffee. As others mentioned, once inside, there is no sneaking up on this place, and the creaky wooden floors enhance the charm. Since it was my first time, I went all traditional-like with a mocha, and it was just right: not too sweet with three shots because we all need that type of jolt pre-meeting. Old School also has plenty of interesting choices with intriguing trendy-sounding names displayed on...chalkboard, and I'll enjoy sampling other wares next time I'm in downtown Lexie. For now I'm headed to Mrs. Johnson's second period math class before she knows I was missing. read more

Wanted to escape my new office location & took a 10 minute walk to this spot...why? Because coffee is life LOL. I've been to this building for a massage years ago, so I love this building being repurposed! Nice ambiance & not packed but the were plenty enjoying the seating area. I ordered The Student to go and tried an oatmeal chocolate chip cookie as well. Cookie was a little dry but I enjoyed my beverage after I added my own sweetner (I forgot to ask the staff). I plan to visit again prices and options are expected for coffee and seem less expensive then Starbucks. read more

My boyfriend and I strolled in here two mornings in a row during our stay in Lexington for coffee drinks and toasted bagels with cream cheese. Over the course of 4 orders, we had an oat milk cappuccino, almond cappuccino with honey, "The Teacher" latte, black coffee, plain and blueberry toasted bagels. Everything was delicious. The Teacher was phenomenal with vanilla and honey, and my almond cappuccino was perfect. Super friendly and quick service behind the counter, too. read more

Visited the place again and the coffee was fantastic. Got a double espresso and it was dialed in great. It's busy but the wait wasn't very long. A couple years ago I left a review I regret and was harsh on the coffee beans they sell but the owner messaged me and kindly pointed out some facts I got wrong. I bought some while I was there this time and they have been great I have them dialed in for my espresso at home. 100% will making returns when I visit lex. read more

My new favorite coffee shop in Lexington! Located in an old school building on Mill Street, this coffee shop is aptly named! The baristas are super friendly and helpful, and they are able to make suggestions as well as take custom orders. They have a variety of plant based milks as well as the standards, which are unsweetened, and patrons can choose to add the sweetener of their choice. Their drink names go along with the school theme as well which is a fun touch. My favorite is the matcha latte with almond milk and a stevia- I would start my day with one every day if I could! There is plenty of parking which is rare for a downtown spot. Definitely give OSC a try if you haven't been! read more

In a building which contains several other businesses (none of which was apparently open on Sunday, creating a bizarre ghost town vibe) sits this coffee place. They had a selection of pastries and things, but I wasn't really blown away and came for a chai latte, which was sweet and spicy and lasted a long while. They did have alternative milk options. My dad took me to Old School Coffee and I was super impressed with how their coffee tasted!!! I got a Carmel macchiato and it was made just right and tasted really good!! Fair amount of parking in the attached lot to the left saved us from having to park on the street. Lots of cute and comfortable seating inside, I thought about hunkering down here during my telework hours. Friendly service keeps the chill vibe going. I didn't get around to trying the baked goods that were left in the display case, but this was hands down the best coffee we had in Lexington across the 6 places we tried. The coffee wasn't over-roasted, the cold brew had this delicious chocolate-y undertone, and the School House #3 was well-balanced and highly drinkable. As a lifelong Lexingtonian, I'm embarrassed to admit that I'd never stepped foot in our historic Dudley Square. Thanks to Old School Coffee and their participation in Lexington Coffee Week, that changed yesterday. This is one of Lexington's newest coffee shops, located in the former Dudley Square schoolhouse. The parking in the spots surrounding Dudley's is limited, but metered parking in the area is plentiful. It was President's Day, and luckily Lex Park offers free metered parking on holidays. The place was packed. The majority of the patrons were college aged students. I can see this being a good place for a one on one meeting, or somewhere to just set up to work. I have to admit, I'm not a huge coffee fan, so I was happy to learn that their Coffee Week $3 feature, was a latte. The owner and barista were friendly and helpful. The owner explained that he experimented several days before finding the perfect concoction. He made his rounds mingling to make sure everyone was enjoying their caffeinated choice. I can attest, their iced pistachios and cream latte was a perfect concoction. You can get it iced or hot, just a side note in case iced isn't your thing. read more

This is by far the best coffee house in Lexington, KY and one of my overall favorite coffee spots ever. With a small town like this that focuses on college students due the UK, it's not hard to imagine the amount of coffee shops that pop up here, and Old School is absolutely the best of them for a fantastic drinks program, but a great overall approach to which beans they source and get roasted. Not only that, but the staff are amazing folks who are varied in how absolutely kind, thoughtful and amazing they all are. From larger orders to smaller orders to the same order every single time, they are some of the coolest folks who know how to make a coffee shop run. The food options are smaller, sure, but it's a coffee shop and what they do have is great. Get me some of La Petit Delicat's croissants and we're always in a good way. After years of living in Lexington and settling for other whatever coffee options, it was absolutely awesome to see Old School come into the picture. My reservation with trying this place out in Dudley Square was the parking!! To my surprise, plenty of metered parking on the street and nice parking along the side of the building. Easy to find! What impressed me most was that the person at the register (may have been the owner or manager) said that the speciality drinks were only lightly sweetened so that one can fully taste the coffee. I love trying different type of lattes and iced coffees but am often disappointed that drinks are so full of sugar that I can't finish it. I ended up with The Teacher - perfect for me! The space is so bright and inviting. It wasn't busy so I'm really hoping this place does well! I heard about it word-of-mouth and will be suggesting it's to friends. The hardwood is beautiful but a little squeaky. It was pretty quiet in there and I need lots of ambient noise to keep me focused. I also have a child and would be worried he would be too loud to come here. read more

Stopped here for some coffee and a place to get some work done, and I was not disappointed! I had a little trouble finding exactly where to enter, but there is free parking outside. Once you enter the main floor of the building, you will see the sign for Old School Coffee! The apartment building had a few other shops, like yoga and acupuncture inside as well. The owner/employees were super friendly and asked if I needed any help on deciding my order. I went with a caramel iced coffee, which was $3. They had a little bakery case with Spalding donuts, and other bagels and pastries which looked delicious! The service was quick, and there are lots of tables or bar space available. The shop is super open and has good lighting. There are also plenty of outlets if you need to charge your laptop or phone. I will definitely be back again! The other drinks on the menu sound super yummy, so I'm going to try something new the next time. read more

The quality of their coffee cannot be matched by any other spot in Lexington, in my opinion. Very cool environment with a nice vibe. The different specialty coffees we had (S'mores latte and Teacher latte) were both very flavorful without being too sweet. Owner is a great young entrepreneur. He is very personable and his knowledge about the building is fantastic. Home boy's vision for a coffee shop is very unique. He serves Spalding's Donuts and they're picked up daily except for when Spalding's Bakery is closed. I sampled the drip coffee and it was amazing! I did opt for one of the Iced Old School Specialties. FREE WIFI too! It was a tad difficult to find but go in through the red door in the old school building and you'll find Old School Coffee.
