Let me start off by saying that the staff is incredibly nice and accommodating. Additionally, the location on Mill is great! It's so fun to bring people inside the old schoolhouse. Lovers of history and period themes would enjoy this. However, I also like to leave honest reviews to inform others and the business. The cold-brew was incredibly sour. Cold brew can be "bright" from the beans used and can even be lighter in body. This is not what I am referring. It was not smooth at all. The beans might have been TOO coarse, extraction time, quality of the bean. Too many factors to pinpoint since I don't work there. The latte was alright. It was thick on my palette. Not my favorite roast used for that which comes to preference. I would also like to see ALL of Lexington's coffee shops to have a variety of in-house syrups. They are always better and you can create such fun combos! read more

Had to come here just because of the name and I'm so glad I did! Adorable little place that has a warm, homey, farmhouse vibe. Perfect place to study or meet with a friend. Their menu is all school-themed. I ordered an iced teacher (very fitting as I am a former teacher myself - but FYI it is a vanilla and honey flavored coffee) and it was delicious! Just got back from my first visit to Old School, and it was great. Located in Dudley Square with several other businesses, Old School Coffee is about 10 months old now. I found out about the place because of a Facebook post that included three other coffee shops in the general vicinity. Parking is limited in around Dudley Square itself, but there is plenty of metered parking available as well. The layout of the place is great for a coffee shop, imo. It's well-lit by ample sunlight, which I prefer to the more dimly lit atmosphere. White walls mix with a partial brick interior for a nice contrast. I spoke with the owner who told me a bit about the place and how it's been doing since opening. He was very candid and friendly, and sincerely so, rather than the type you try to talk with on a first visit who only vaguely acknowledge your attempt as if glossing over a footnote to an article. I looked over their drink options and got an iced Americano. The barista handed me the finished product, and after a bit of half & half and a little sugar, I had a wonderful coffee drink to enjoy on my morning walk. The owner thanked me for my patronage and even gave me a loyalty card (which I, of course, had forgotten to ask for after reminding myself to do so) with an extra punch. Small gem of a local entrepreneur making his mark. This place is kind of hidden inside an historic school house that was renovated (in the 50's) and turned into small business spaces. This fella opened up about 6 months ago and is a great stop to add to your day in Lex. We had a chance to chat with the owner who spoke very well his knowledge of coffee. He recommended a daily special, the Teacher, which was flavored with vanilla and honey (not too sweet, definitely taste the coffee throughout). I had a Cuban Latte, again, nicely done. So I decided to skip work today and walk around the downtown area looking for somewhere new for coffee. I had a difficult time finding this place but I was determined so eventually I found it. He told me someone stole his sign he had on the sidewalk making it easier to find, another is on the way. Having heard that I thought to myself who does that?! Upon walking in I was warmly greeted by what turned out to be the owner. He's so friendly, warm and genuine. He honestly couldn't have been any nicer. The shop itself is warm and inviting, the exposed original brick work to the white tiles is just super nice. What they had to renovate holds to the history of the building itself. Now for the coffee since I didn't have a clue as to what to get he suggested The Principal which is white chocolate and hazelnut. I got it iced and its amazing! They have a small counter bakery case which has donuts from Spalding's, I'm not sure where the bagels are from. If you haven't been here you need to go, they also have a loyalty card.
