My boyfriend, our dog, and I ended up booking this B&B last minute after leaving another accommodation early because it had bugs (including a camel spider in our bed ). We found this place online at resnexus.com as well Yelp and stalked their website, loved the photos, read the reviews, and immediately felt relieved when we arrived. The Piñon Casita was adorable, the property itself is beautiful, breakfast was delicious, and the hosts seemed friendly. For the first hour or so I was thinking, Thank goodness, we finally found the place. Unfortunately, things slowly started going downhill from there. The first night, the fireplace wouldn't work. We messaged the hosts, sent photos, tried troubleshooting it ourselves, and eventually just gave up and accepted we'd be having a fireplace-free evening. It wasn't the end of the world, and we figured hey, stuff happens. The next day they came and fixed it, which we appreciated. Then came the washer. One of the reasons we were excited about this casita was because it included a washer and dryer. Earlier in the week we'd already spent time at a laundromat, so we were looking forward to doing laundry before our 8-hour drive home. We started a load and got a 4E error less than halfway through the wash. We looked it up ourselves, we tried troubleshooting, we messaged the hosts, we followed their suggestions, and we tried different cycles. At this point I felt less like a guest and more like the on-call appliance technician. They eventually told us the washer had been fixed while we were out hiking, so we were excited to finally do laundry. Spoiler alert it wasn't fixed. Same error. We tried again later that evening. Same issue. Then around 11 PM the washer completely shut off and locked our wet laundry inside. We messaged the hosts again because we were supposed to leave the next morning after breakfast and start an 8-hour drive home. The response that frustrated us most wasn't even the broken washer, it was being told that because we hadn't specifically mentioned on the phone that we intended to use the washer and dryer, (And she said that they don't accept same day bookings, but made an exception for us, though that was never communicated nor was this a policy written anywhere on their website) compensation wouldn't be considered. Respectfully, if an amenity is advertised, guests shouldn't have to announce ahead of time that they plan on using it. That's like asking if the shower works before booking because you intend to shower. We weren't asking for a huge refund. We weren't asking for hundreds of dollars back. Even a small gesture of goodwill $50 to $100 off the stay would have gone a long way and would have shown that they understood the inconvenience. Instead, we paid full price despite having a fireplace that didn't work the first night and a washer/dryer that never functioned properly during our stay. To add to that, there were also multiple spiders and bugs inside the casita. I understand this is the countryside and bugs exist. Trust me, I get it. But after literally leaving our previous accommodation because of bugs, it wasn't exactly what we hoped to deal with again. The next morning our laundry was still trapped in the washer. Eventually my boyfriend ended up figuring out the breaker issue himself after staff told us where the breaker panel was located. We rushed to get our laundry spun and dried before checkout, but they still weren't completely dry. So instead of leaving relaxed after a nice getaway, we ended up starting our 8-hour drive home later than planned with damp laundry shoved into a trash bag. The frustrating part is that this review could have been completely different. The property is beautiful, the breakfast was genuinely fantastic, the casita itself is cute and cozy. And honestly, if the hosts had simply acknowledged the inconvenience and offered even a small amount of compensation, I probably would've happily overlooked most of this. Instead, we left feeling like the burden of fixing the problems fell on us while still paying full price for amenities we couldn't properly use. It's a lovely property, but unfortunately the way these issues were handled means we won't be returning.

The rustic charm is everywhere from the Spanish tile bathroom to the spacious bedroom. There are chair on the front porch to sit and enjoy the court yard. Our room had an open but private back porch with more chairs. We enjoyed some coffee here before heading to breakfast, Breakfast was delicious and the staff was friendly and helpful. Nga was amazing. Also, we checked everywhere for a spare roll of TP when we ran out the second night, but there was none. We also had some trouble with spiders in the tub both mornings. We were greeted at breakfast by the host (never got her name), who was sweet and friendly, but it was clear there was chaos in the kitchen. Both mornings, breakfast was delicious, but it took well over an hour to be served. The second morning it was clear they'd run out of several things, which was disappointing when watching other tables get their food and ours was different and kind of sad by comparison (even though we arrived at 9:15, 45 min before it ends). I totally understand things happen, but when you're a bed and breakfast, the bed should be comfortable and the breakfast should be available quickly and efficiently so you can go about your day. I can see why others have had such wonderful experiences here, and the property truly is gorgeous and relaxing, but overall it was more of a miss for us compared to other places we've stayed.

The location is absolutely unbeatable -- right in the center of town just a few short blocks from the historic plaza, making it incredibly easy to leave the car in their free, small gravel parking lot tucked at the end of Des Georges Lane behind the hotel and explore the local stores, galleries, and museums on foot. Like Taos itself, the historic building has a ton of character. Each room offers a completely unique experience, heavily featuring whimsical and locally produced art that gives the property a very authentic, grounded feel. The owner, Paul "Paco" Castillo, is a longtime fixture in Taos and a fantastic host. Knowing my travel companion and I enjoy exploring local food and culture, his amazing suggestions on what to see and which restaurants to try really elevated our limited time in town. However, there are a couple practical caveats that future guests should keep in mind.. First, we stayed in the La Luz suite. While it is beautifully decorated and offers fantastic privacy as well as a beautiful view of the mountains to the north, getting to it requires climbing two flights of narrow stairs. I definitely wouldn't recommend this specific suite to anyone with mobility issues. Unfortunately, my travel companion injured her knee the day before our trip and suffered mightily climbing up and down the narrow stairs to our room during our stay. Second, the inn provides a free breakfast for guests on Saturdays and Sundays. It's a nice touch, but breakfast consists of a single prepared dish or a continental breakfast buffet. If you have dietary restrictions (like me), you might have to decline the main offering and make do with the limited continental breakfast. Thankfully, they had packets of instant oatmeal and breads available, so I certainly didn't go hungry before heading out for the day. Overall, it's a charming, historic spot with an incredibly welcoming host -- just be mindful of the stairs if you book the La Luz suite and the set breakfast menu!

He came right over to introduce himself, show us around the property, and even picked a few things from the garden for us to enjoy during our stay. We settled in and enjoyed the cheese, crackers, olives and snacks that he had on the table along with a bottle of wine that was delicious. The next morning, Richard was on our doorstep with warm pear and walnut scones that he made from the pear tree on the property. Our little cottage was perfect. Filled with local art work, bright colors and the textures of the Southwest. We had a lovely living room, dining area with a banquette, kitchen stocked with everything we needed. Upstairs was the bedroom and bathroom with a large deck off the bedroom and stunning views of the mountains surrounding Taos. Everything was spotlessly clean, warm, inviting and cozy. We relaxed, enjoyed and savored every moment we were here. I even used the little meditation hut next to the creek for my morning meditations. It was the most peaceful spot. In the refrigerator we found 6 fresh eggs that Richard had left from the chickens on the property. We thoroughly enjoyed them. Richard was friendly, kind, giving and the most gracious host and a wonderful innkeeper. If you ever find yourself traveling to Taos, you must stay.

Historic Rip Off with a Concusdion…read more I spent $250 for one night at the Historic Taos Inn, and let me tell you what "historic" apparently means: nothing has been updated since the Coolidge administration. Let's take the tour. The carpet was dirty and buckled, rising up toward the bathroom threshold like it was personally trying to trip me. Nothing says "vacation" like a rug plotting your death. The air conditioning was a window unit roughly the size of a lunchbox and twice as loud, valiantly cooling approximately one square foot of the room while I sweated through the historic sheets. It sounded like a small aircraft trying and failing to take off. All night. The bed deserves its own paragraph. It was old, lumpy, and screamed like a haunted door hinge every single time I so much as breathed. I've slept on futons with more dignity and less commentary. But the crown jewel, the pièce de résistance , is the bathroom doorway, which stands a proud six feet tall. I am 6'3". There was no warning. No little sign, no cheerful "mind your head," nothing. I knocked the absolute daylights out of my skull walking into my own bathroom. In my $250 room. At night. In a place I paid to be. I'm not disappointed. Disappointed is what you feel about a mediocre breakfast. I am angry. I know Taos isn't cheap. I get it. But I paid the exact same amount at La Fonda the night before and it was genuinely lovely - clean, comfortable, and notably free of surprise architectural head trauma. Historic Taos Inn, you owe me an ice pack and an apology. Duck when you enter. Bring earplugs. Bring a helmet. Maybe just stay somewhere else.

There were multiple maintenance and functionality issues. The ductless mini-split system was not working properly, and the wall-mounted thermostat did not control the heat or A/C. The ceiling vent appeared obstructed and poorly maintained, raising concerns about airflow and ventilation. I also noted that the smoke detector showed no visible indicator light at the time, making it unclear whether it was operational, which raised a safety concern. The room itself felt dated and not well maintained. There was a visible spiderweb and debris buildup on the window sill, and the window area overall showed a lack of cleaning and upkeep. Additionally, the wooden window blinds were damaged--specifically, the upper right blind is missing the center wooden control rod, so each slat had to be adjusted by hand. The blinds also catch on the window frame/sill, preventing smooth operation and full closure. Because the room was on the ground level with people walking by, this resulted in a lack of privacy that would reasonably be expected. The bathroom also showed wear, with deteriorating caulking and grout around the tub/shower. Basic amenities were lacking--there was no clock, mini fridge, or microwave, which made the stay less convenient than expected. Additionally, there was a mouse trap placed under the bed. While I understand pest control is sometimes necessary, its visible presence in the guest room raises concerns about cleanliness and overall room readiness. Most importantly, the condition of the room and lack of amenities did not align with the price paid. For the rate charged, I expected a higher standard of maintenance, cleanliness, and functionality. The experience felt significantly overpriced relative to what was provided. The property has charm and a strong location, but without better upkeep and attention to detail, it does not currently deliver value for the cost.

Sadly many B&B's do not wash their bedspreads--- like ever, and in this case only flat sheets (no fitted) with hard as rock pillows are available. This property will appeal to some but I'm hoping the gutted driveway, peeling paint etc get attention. The location is really lovely and better than being in town. The price point is very fair for what you get. Wishing the owners lots of luck and lots of business. It's not easy to run a place like this.
