Their demeanor and standard for client service is unacceptable and tarnishes the reputation of the practice whose doctors provide a totally different experience. Christina is exceptionally rude and unhelpful when speaking to parents. The Closter location has great doctors AND friendly office staff!

One would think in 2022, after SARS and a multi generational pandemic and all of the advances in…read morescience and technology that air FILTRATION would be top of mind at a pediatricians office. Well this office may have good doctors but the office manager who I believe goes by the name of Tom, refuses to accept the science and thus maintains zero filtration or proper ventilation in ANY of Tenafly Pediatrics offices access northern New Jersey. Tom maintains that air filtration does not reduce viral particles. I have no idea where he gathered that information or what specific filtration he was referring to but that is categorically and definitely FALSE. Any "research" done on Google will reveal that HEPA filtration reduces airborne contamination to under .03 microns. In plain English this means that biological contamination, virus, and bacteria particles are trapped to the tune of 99.5%. I personally feel much more comfortable in an environment that is 99.5% safer than nothing at all. Think air quality while flying- who thinks it's safe and the air is clean on an airplane? Did you run out and buy discount airline tickets when COVID first broke out? Probably not. When you enter the lobby, one will notice a "sick" section and "non sick" section in an open floor space that can't be more than 50sq ft in total. There are no dividers, no air filters, nothing at all to prevent the spread of virus' or airborne contaminants. We all wonder how our kids get sick and schools are generally the first place we lay the blame. Well if we put our thinking caps on for a minute we would realize that many children who are too young to be in school as well as during summers and school breaks are still falling ill to viruses like the flu I'm going to venture a thought here so please bear with me. When parents bring their newborns and young children to a pediatricians office for one of the many routine visits and you enter a space that was recently occupied by a sick child, and you have no air filtration whatsoever, this is like a paid visit to a guaranteed viral Petri dish. This is where healthy kids and their parents go to get sick. Offices that have managers who attempt to be experts in air quality are like corporations that have their IT security being done by the guy who changes the printer paper. This office may have good doctors but the group is being run by incompetent and unqualified individuals who are putting the health of you and your children at risk. Furthermore, if doctors offices are waiting for an official recommendation from the CDC or any other government agency to implement filtration and ventilation systems by that time our children will be sitting in a geriatrics office. The two stars are for the doctor because she was very good. The front desk staff could be much nicer and more on the ball as well so I did subtract for that.

My biggest regret of parenthood is taking my children to Mandel. Similar to the other negative…read morereviews, they missed a life altering diagnosis for my child. Mandel's arrogant dismissal of my concerns were brushed off since his birth. He now has severe hearing loss, wears hearing aids, and is attending a school program for the deaf. I don't blame him for my son's condition, but for his arrogant dismissal and lack of care which potentially couldn't worsened my son's hearing. He mansplains during every appointment, making it uncomfortable to engage in conversation about my child's health. - [ ] For my first child, missed a diagnosis of soy and cows milk protein allergy, dismissed his acid reflux and Mandel refused to administer medicine to help reflux, and his hearing loss. - [ ] My son failed 2 hearing tests at his 3 year checkup. Mandel recommended us a specialist (not even a pediatric audiologist/ENT) Waited hours for them to complete test where they claimed he passed. "I'm sure he's fine" was the response. - [ ] A year later, brought my son to his 4 year old apt. After waiting over an hour, Mandel comes in nasty, rude, not even saying hi or acknowledging how late he was. Berates me off the bat for not knowing my son would have a vaccine that day, scolded me for my son's weight which was perfectly fine for his height/ BMI, and went on to suggest he was picking up bad eating habits from me (as I was 8 months pregnant). All he ever said about my son's speech was "I can't understand him"...never provided clarity or suggestions on our next steps. I walked out hiding tears. Never suggested it could be hearing related especially since he had a history of failed tests. Any question I had was met with condescending responses and complete arrogance. This was a pattern during every visit with him. - [ ] Immediately took my son for speech therapy where his therapist suggested a hearing test through them. Lo and behold he has severe hearing loss. Did I mention he passed his 4 year old hearing screening with Mandel? How is that possible? Then just weeks later he's failing every test with specialists and we began navigating his lifelong journey with hearing loss. Not once were we consulted or advised on anything from Chestnut Ridge. - [ ] My son had what we assumed to be either a spider bite or staph infection from a bouncy house. While seeking treatment, he questioned if we have a dirty house and that's where he picked it up...how insulting and out of pocket. What's with this guy? - [ ] My second son - his heart murmur went undetected for months, constantly dismissed me when he ran a 103-104 fever for days, and became dehydrated. Had a random office woman give him his vaccines who subsequently didn't log them then tried to administer the covid vaccine again at his next apt. That's concerning. My star is for Demi and the nurses. Demi is absolutely amazing - just wonderful at what she does and so kind and compassionate. Myself and my boys adored her. She went above and beyond to help always. Whenever we could get an appointment with her was the only time I felt listened to and received treatment. I wish i knew of Demi prior to the poor experiences with Mandel. Being disgusted with Mandel and his bedside manner, we transferred over to Tenafly pediatrics. I should've transferred years ago. They have been outstanding, kind, and so amazing with my boys. They truly care for their patients and you see it through their treatment and actions. Do better for your patients and treat them with respect. Listen to them with care and try to get to the bottom of issues instead of blowing them off. Parents are looking for guidance on their children's health but you present like that's an inconvenience for you. Don't operate under "because I said so" explanations.

Mind you even after being alerted of her failings and what she did permanently to our daughter's health, she never even once followed up to check in with us. If this review can benefit one family from our hellish nightmare, it's not in vain. We will regret choosing Dr. Mayer for the rest of our lives and what she has done to our daughter. We don't blame Dr. Mayer for a preexisting condition but blame Dr. Mayer for the callous, continuous dismissal of our concerns for over three years (which would have changed our child's future if treated sooner) and her failure to diagnose. We will live with the daily guilt had we only chosen a more competent Dr. our child's life would be different. We entrusted Dr. Mayer and we will be forever wishing we had made another choice. If this helps just one other family by posting this review ... This mill prioritizes profitability over patient care, not thorough examinations and not your child's well-being. Please learn from our child's nightmare. Don't risk your child's health.
