After being seated they told us the bar was closed and don't serve any drinks at all. When we ordered they were out of nearly all vegetables. I would love to give this a better rating because the food was actually good, but there were so many other issues. First, if you require reservations, invest in a website that states you require reservations. We were able to get in later in the night, but it would have been nice to know they require this. After being seated and the server was taking our order I informed the server I had a very severe Seafood Allergy and to please make them aware. When the chef came to our table and was preparing food he made the rice the veggies and then put on the seafood. (I assumed they were making my food in the back since that is what happens at most hibachi grills). They were not. After the seafood he started making my chicken and steak where he had just cooked all the seafood and I informed him I could not eat it and was severely allergic to seafood. The server failed to inform him of this!! She didn't even write it down! The chef was very nice and apologetic and finished everyone's food and cleaned the grill and all the utensils and remade all my food including veggies. He was the only employee in the entire restaurant that was apologetic at all!! My husband also did not receive all of his order. He had order steak and salmon and a side of scallops for our 14 month old grandson. He only got scallops and a side piece of salmon. When our bill came he was charge for what he had ordered and not what he was given. He told our server who took the steak off, but still overcharged us. Another employee came up and fixed our bill. During all of this, the chef was the only one to apologize and he was very kind and wanted me to have a great meal prepared on the grill and not in the kitchen. No one else apologized for anything and I would have thought we would have seen a manager after the chef made it known to the staff that it was not ok, but who appeared to be the manager just stood back in the corner and never approached us. I gave one star because the food was really good and one star because the chef was fantastic about the entire situation. The rest of the staff and management left something to be desired. Needless to say, this is not somewhere we will return. A severe seafood allergy is something to be very aware of when you are told and something to take seriously. read more

In town for a training event and the hotel front desk recommended Old Tokyo Steakhouse. Reflecting back after my experience, I can only assume that the front desk person must know someone over at Old Tokyo because I wouldn't even recommended this place to people I didn't like. When we arrived at 6 pm, there were only 2 cars in the parking lot and I noticed the building itself is in a moderate state of disrepair. I was in a group so I just went with the flow of the group instead of listening to my gut. What a mistake that was. Upon entering, I noticed the state of disrepair carried into the inside along with big differences in temperature throughout different areas/rooms. They sat us at the teppanyaki table and my hands recoiled when I felt the built up grease on the surface. That is a huge red flag and an indication of their cleaning habits and knowledge. We were notified by the hostess, who was also our sever, that they had lost their liquor license, another red flag. There were only about 5 other customers eating, another red flag. We ordered our meals and the server brought out the drinks then the soup and salads and appetizers, minus the appetizer I ordered. The server commented that she had just brewed some iced tea when I ordered it but upon tasting it, or should I say not tasting it, wondered if she used 1 regular sized tea bag for a whole pitcher. The soup was just some weakly flavored nondescript broth with 2 raw mushroom slices floating in it. It was not good and after a second taste to confirm my first taste, I pushed it away. The salad was an iceberg mix with some overly salty attempt at Japanese style salad dressing. I pushed it away too. Then the cook came out and started his presentation. He did a decent job in his presentation but the food was all subpar except for the mushrooms. My chicken was pretty much a piece of rubber and the jalapeños that were supposed to be grilled with it were added at the very end so they did not cook at all and did not add flavor to the chicken. The sauces they served with everything were all store bought sauces that they added some other ingredients to that did not compliment well. The server never brought out the appetizer I ordered and I really didn't care at this point because I just wanted this experience to be over. We paid our bill and went back to our hotel. I spent most of the night on the toilet which was made worse by the early schedule I had the next day. This place rates as one of my worst experiences all-time at a non-fast food restaurant. By the looks of things, I would say this place is about 3 months away from being closed and probably should have been a long time ago. Avoid this place. read more

I had reservations for 7pm. It's 7:30 and still not seated. The building is hot. The thermostat says it's 81 degrees in the waiting area. While the thermostat is set at 69 degrees. The floor is extremely sticky and food everywhere. The weeds out front are overgrown. For some reason there is a hose running from the outside spigot to up on the roof. They were even receiving a food shipment from the back of a SUV. Seems kind of shady. They said they can't serve alcohol, but you can bring your own. Can we say we either lost or failed to renew their liquor license. So why do they still have bottles of liquor behind the counter on shelves. This didn't bother me as we don't drink. First time there, the atmosphere and decor was what you'd expect in a hibachi restaurant. The hostess was very nice and patient and even though we had a family member running late, we were still seated promptly when they arrived. The cook was VERY entertaining and the wait staff was on point. The food was very good, and although I wasn't a fan of the ginger sauce, the rest of the meal was very flavorful and delicious. We all had way more than we could eat and left there very full with plenty of leftovers. The ONLY reason I gave this place 4 stars is that I thought the ginger sauce could be better. I know it sounds petty, but a good ginger sauce is an important part of a hibachi meal for me. I didn't have the mustard sauce so I couldn't comment on that. I would recommend this place and we will probably come eat here again when we are back in Wichita. read more

Give these folks a try. I have had a better experience here than at the alternative on the west side. Old Tokyo Steakhouse has done really tasty food. Service is pretty good and plenty fast and attentive, especially when busy. We've eaten there on 7 occasions and have yet to be disappointed. I've tried everything but the lobster. My favorite has to be a combination of the chicken, shrimp and scallops. We will continue going there and dragging friends and family along as often as we can. Also, the fried rice, pretty dang good, plenty of flavor. read more

Three Stars because they're nice and they try. A bit unorganized. Sat in the bar for 30 minutes to wait, which is to be expected anywhere. Strange that some of the bar drinks have descriptions on the menu and some don't. Sitting at the bar I noticed the manager closing out quite a few tabs, more than normal for a manager. After awhile we were brought to our grill table where we sat for over 20 minutes before the waitress came and took our drink orders. The soup and salad came right before the grill chef started. The waitress never came and refilled my drink. Portion sizes are smaller than the other options in town & they have quite a few kinks to work out but when there's a 2 hour wait at the competitor, it'll do. read more

Best flavor to the food, hands-down, compared to the other Japanese steakhouses in the area. Filet is always juicy and cooked as ordered. Shrimp is spot-on. Salmon can be overcooked if they put it on the grill too early (stick with the shrimp!). Size of the tables are so much better than Kobe's! The drawbacks are that the place is a bit run-down and the floors tend to be a bit greasy/slippery. read more

The food was good. BUT.... the service was terrible. About 45 days ago we went and had to wait 1hr to be seated even though we had a reservation. They forgot to bring our soup and salad. All the entertainment is the cook drumming his utensils and flipping a ege in his hat. Because it was busy, we though we would try again. Bad idea. 1. It was not busy. 2. We were seated and I noticed that my plate had a major chip in it. The server was going to give it to someone else. 3. Again, no show, except the drumming. 4. The cook tried to flip the egg and missed. 5. My son and I ordered a meal that had chicken, and though they verified the meal, they still forgot to cook it. They gave our chicken to cook and the cook took his time. We just got it to go. 6. The cook apologized, but management did not say anything. Management did not come to the table. This used to be the best restaurant. But I can't see going back. I will also be telling. All friends about how bad of experience we have had. Don't go there. read more

Ordered a long island. It did not taste right so I told the waitress. She let me know if she takes it back I will still be charged for it and they won't make the drink over. I've never heard of this so I asked to speak to a manager. The long island was $12 which isn't a lot, but it's kind of the principle. The manager comes over tells me they just had a meeting where they were told they can't comp the drink that wasn't made correctly and they can't remake the drink because all of their bartenders are trained. Well, hello, people make mistakes this Long Island wasnt even the correct color. He told me there was nothing he can do for me HE UNDERSTANDS ALL OTHER RESTAURANTS ARENT LIKE THIS BUT THIS IS THEIR NEW POLICY. This is the craziest thing I have ever heard. Do not eat here. We couldn't get a reservation at Kobe, so we thought we'd try this place. Big mistake! The food wasn't bad, but everything else was. We had a reservation and we heard someone from another group waiting in the lobby say they didn't have one... and they got seated before us. What?! We ended up not being seated until a HALF HOUR after our reservation. No apologies, no nothing! When we got seated a little late at Kobe, we got an apology and a bunch of free appetizers. Another group told us they had a reservation and they didn't get seated until an HOUR later! When we left, they had a lobby full of angry looking people who had been waiting forever. This place also has terrible ventilation. Our clothes all smelled horrible. Next time, I'll be sure to make a reservation much earlier at Kobe. This place isn't even in the same ballpark. We were there celebrating a birthday, had a reservation and still had to wait 30 minutes. The cook was not engaging or entertaining. The service was poor, we had to ask for water refills and my granddaughter ordered a soda and it took 45 minutes to get it. We had a group of 9 and we were finishing drinks and opening gifts when the manager came out and asked us to leave. "We have other people waiting and we need this table." I hadn't finished my drink. Don't go! This had to be the worst experience in dining in my life. Spilled 3 full glasses of water on our party, My granddaughter had to eat in wet clothes. Spilled water again, this time on my daughters phone. After they tried to clean it up, they finally moved us to a different table. My soup came out 1/2 full and cold. Everyone else's was full and steaming. Did I get someone's leftovers? Needless to say, I couldn't eat it. There was paper in my vegetables. Our food was saturated in sauce to where that's all you could taste. There was an extra charge on our ticket for an alcoholic drink we did not order. We will never return. Is see people complaining about the salt and sauce and I feel like these are the people that say ketchup is too spicy (real things I heard when I was a server). We did have to wait a bit but that's just the nature of these style places especially since it's a smaller building. Like most places right now they are short staffed but I could tell everyone was working really hard to pull together. Were there things that could have been betters? Yeah, I had to wait a bit before they acknowledged us and the bathroom was a little messy (just paper towels on the floor and stuff) but I'm chalking this up to how short staffed they were. I get it. The food was yummy, I'm eating leftovers as I eat this, actually. One we were sat the server we had was wonderful, attentive, and quickly fixed an issue with our bill. Coming down from our hometown, and set a reservation for 6. They said if we were 15 minutes late the reservation would be canceled. So we sped up and tried to hurry. Got there 5 minutes before our reservation would be canceled, and they had already given our table away.
