This is my new go-to breakfast place (since Xxyzyx sadly closed). I always order the country benedict and add sauteed spinach. It has delicious gravy and turkey sausage patties. When they're available, I always choose the hash cake for my side. They are a must try if you eat cheese (they're vegetarian). They have coffee from Groundworks (roastery located in West Hollywood); delicious. They also have a wide variety of condiments, including Pepper Plant hot sauce (my favorite!). You can tell that the local cronies come here. There's always the same server who works by herself. She's adorable and sweet. Since she works solo, you might not want to come if you're in a time crunch, though the chefs definitely help run food when she's in a bind. Overall, great atmosphere and unique food. Found this hidden gem on Mother'a Day weekend when all other places had a wait time of 2.5 plus hours for brunch! We headed over here since the wait was only 30 mins and a bonus was they were dog friendly with a dog menu! The service was great! The waitress provided a few suggestions on her faves and popular items. 3 items she suggested we ordered and they were delish, the Spanish (chilaquiles with scrambled eggs and ham on top), the Tuscan (chicken panini w/provolone, spinach, tomatoes and pesto) which was not too greasy like other paninis I have had, and the churro waffles. The Old Town burger was not your typical burger with caramelized balsamic onions, garlic aioli! My 8 yr old enjoyed his plain cheeseburger, he really enjoyed the juicy beef patty and he's a picky eater! We also tried the chocolate pancakes which was a hit as well! Also they had mimosa flavor options, not just OJ! The mango and strawberry mimosa were perfect! We found our new place in town and will be back to try other items on the menu! read more

This was my first visit to this café in Camarillo. I found out about them through using my AXXESS coupon. I ordered two burgers, and I wanted extra sauce on the side to go with them. I therefore ordered six sauces altogether. While on the phone nobody told me that there was an extra charge for the sauces. When I saw that the associate was packing up my order, I also noticed that she only put in two out of the six that I had requested. I therefore asked her to get me the others. She went to go get them, but when she came back she said it would be $.50 per extra sauce. I then told her I'll just take the two chipotle sauces and she grinned at that. I then left her a three dollar tip, but in thinking about it I should've just paid the sauces from that tip money. I didn't like her attitude about charging me for the sauces. I would've gladly paid for them had they mentioned that in advance. However, the fact that she was adding it on as an afterthought was what got me upset. I hope they learn a lesson from this and in the future advise people of charges in advance not when they get there. Will I ever return? No. First impressions mean everything to me and they failed. read more

I feel badly giving a two because this place has fabulous service and a really nice chef. For my fiancé I am sure it is a 3 or 4, but for me, it's 2 due to the heavily meat based limited menu. Service staff very weak, cook staff seemingly great, and food not horrible...the wait staff got 0 stars. Owner: even though the street festival was going on, there were I think 8 people working...I don't know anything about restaurants but it 'seemed' overstaffed. Preface: I am a family man, business owner and I want success and harmony for all my fellow citizens. No one in our party were bi$chy or mean and in no way did we provoke the treatment I go on to describe here. Its a legit horrible story of a server/worker who I am certain is more focused on a device then my experience at a place of business where she is 100% expected to welcome and serve customers. 2 star story: If I worked at a restaurant and a customer poked their head in to see if we were open I would feel obligated to the owner to hustle that person in the door! We got "we're only open til 2"...it was noon but that's not why it's 2 stars. We sat down (3 adults and our daughter) and were served by the same young woman. My 12 year old ordered 2 full entrées...we were obviously not listening. We went on to order a specialty burger, ham and eggs and waters. When the food came, the ham and eggs came and the 1st of the, then unknown, 2 entrées came followed about 3 minutes later by the 'almost' over cooked burger and the 2nd entree...2 minutes later by the toast. So, waited 5 minutes for toast. Still, that's not what gives it a 2. Back to the disengaged worker. Who among you reading this wouldn't suggest this interaction; Waitress to young girl who just ordered adult chicken fingers with fries AND a meat, salsa, sour cream and guacamole covered french fry bowl: "young lady, that's a whole lot of food, I think we'd best check with your mom on this order", mom, can we go over this order? Mom: honey that's way too much food, let's get something else. The fact that our server let my daughter order 2 full adult entree dishes and that she really didn't care if we came in or not is why I'm rating it a 2. And BTW, Side note: I nodded to the cook staff on the way out as I will do, and they looked like they cared greatly about the store and I genuinely felt horrible that the front of house did not support them and that I, who I feel represents the normal restaurant goer, won't be there again. PS: I wanted more water, she didn't come back by to check on us or refill waters so I went up to the counter and even within whispering range, had to be prompted by another worker that I was standing basically next to her and wanted more water (I'm ok with getting up for more water even though it's commonly brought to the table). read more

Service a little slow. We went over Labor Day weekend to use a Living Social brunch coupon. It was packed. This little cafe is attached to a quaint little Inn in Old Town Camarillo. Food was excellent. Best corned beef hash I ever had and very lean. Their mojo potatoes and marble rye- yummy. My husband had an omelette -- very tasty. We were both stuffed! Did I tell you our coupon came with two mimosas each? It was a great destination with a wonderful surprise. What I liked most about the venue besides outdoor seating was that even if you we're seated inside, the entire cafe was open to the outside. Breakfast and lunch menu. What an incredible find! Somewhat tucked away in the heart of Old Town Camarillo next to the Bella Capri inn is a friendly neighborhood diner that was packed with locals. It seemed like that sort of place that the locals wanted to keep a secret. I can see why because the people, service, and food all exude that neighborhood charm where you know you are being looked after. It feels authentic, homemade. Portions are large, with classic yet spiced up breakfast plates, the service warm and attentive, and a great value! I tried the Southwest Eggs Benedict which was by far one of the best I've had (and I am always on a hunt to find the best wherever I live). I also got to try some of the steak but the teriyaki marinade didn't quite do it for me. Pancakes were soft and billowy and the size of the hubcaps on my car! I'm surprised Old Town Cafe has such poor reviews. My husband and I have been coming here for breakfast several times a month for the past year. The service and food is consistently great. The menu is big enough to fit a range of tastes, and they have a few standout items. If you get the OTC Hashcake, this will become a go to place for you too. We went to breakfast on a Sunday morning and it was a bit chaotic. We found a table on the patio and sat there without menus or water for 15 minutes. When we finally did order, they were out of coffee. They brought out our meal and it was actually someone else's order. After we finished it took about 30 minutes for our check. Came here for lunch after shopping at the outlets. Easy on/off from 101 freeway. Amazing, attentive, friendly service. Very fast! No waiting at 12:30pm on MLK day. Love this place! The food is always amazing. I ordered the "make your own eggs Benedict". With bacon of course and it was delicious The dish: was 4 stars. I believe they could put a little more hollandaise sauce. But other than that it was amazing. The service: I had two women. One of them was new. She was amazing. The other girl complained about how she got tipped only ".75". Honestly honey, at least your getting tipped. Plus it wasn't busy at all, and you could've done a whole lot more. I decided to tip the new girl 2$ and the one complaining 1.75$. They should work on not talking about outside life when at work even if their is not a lot of people in their. Food was greasy and the service was awful. My order was wrong all the way. I ordered an omelet with egg whites and I got a regular omelet. Hash browns were covered in grease and they looked like the ones you get from a grocery store - from the frozen section. My waiter even forgot to bring me my toast. Sadly today's visit was very disappointing. I was really looking forward to the awesome coffee and wheat toast (that always smells so delicious!) - coming all the way from Los Angeles. I have to drop my five stars after this morning's visit. Please note that the customer service is great and the girls that work there are so nice- however the circumstances today left much to be desired. Due to being so busy the cafe was out of wheat toast - so I ordered instead sourdough. When it came to the table it was two sad pieces of the ends of a loaf. I've never been given ends of a loaf before - all I could think was that the staff was really overwhelmed and short on everything. Not good. Then this large party (from the hotel) came inside and it was like witnessing a herd of buffalo take up residence in a china shop. They were loud and very rude- as in they commandeered at least 3 tables and MASHED them together making the worst musical chairs noise. I found that so rude due to the fact that the cafe is TINY and because their party was so large they were yelling so that they could hear each other. As you can imagine I could not even hear the person I was with. I can't fault the staff - however I think that there should be a limit on that kind of behavior as it is totally disruptive to the other guests, that is if there are any tables left for those guests. The girls were really trying their best to accommodate the customers which I can imagine is rough especially when people can be rude and demanding. The sad cherry on the top was that while eating my bacon and eggs I found a hair. At that point I just stopped. The breakfast itself seemed bland too! I don't know what happened since my last visit but I was really disappointed. Oh! Our first time eating breakfast here. I was disappointed because my husbands dish came out 5 minutes before mine. After insisting that he begin, he ate through half of his meal before I got my French toast. My French toast was not warm...almost cold. They also scrubbed a wall next to us, nice that you're clean but how about doing it when no one is there. Finally we had to ask for our coffee refill because our waitress was outside, maybe on a break but make sure everyone is taken care of before you leave. Been here a bunch of times after my first try. Food declined afterwards and is not very consistent. If they are on par with the food each time, this place is gold. The country fried steak got thinner, gravy was more watery and didn't look like the first time I had it. Baja Benny's are usually my favorite but it isn't as good as before and food comes cold. If like to give this place another shot but reluctant to do so. Service isn't the best either but it looks more like a management problem cause the servers are really nice, there isn't a system. When I was rang up I pointed out that based on menus my meal should have been around $24 instead of $31. I was told they haven't updated their in house or to go menus. Parking was a bit of a challenge but eventually found some parallel parking on a side street.There was no wait time and were seated right away. One of the best places I have gone to have breakfast/lunch. I will definitely be going back to have breakfast. Had the chicken and waffles and I LOVE THEM!!! Best waffles I have had. Customer service was pretty good, we had a young man taking care of us and he will come and make sure we had what we needed. The girls that were working were very nice too. It was not busy at all when we got there (around 1240pm) and we enjoyed it. I have drive by early mornings and I can see is very busy so it was good at the time we went. read more

Delicious comfort food AND cheerful service. I came here for a weekend brunch and had the Country Benedict poached eggs. It's creamy poached eggs on sausage and biscuits with a gravy over them (see photo). I got it with the side of hash cake, which is like a hashbrown that the restaurant owner conceived and has great seasoning and light amounts of cheese mixed in. I saw other people getting the breakfast burrito and the Spanish omelette. The menu is very American brunch with Mexi/Cali influences, and vegetarian options, so it is a real crowd-pleaser café. I was so full and happy after eating breakfast here with my friend. This would be a great place for a casual breakfast meeting too. The servers are happy but not too obtrusive. There was a server/hostess walking around to refill my coffee which was nice so that I didn't have to get up and ask. You just leave here feeling happy and content! The atmosphere is perfect for a friends or family brunch, and I definitely want to come back here to try the Bacon Pancakes or other dishes. The GM who was there that morning is also a helpful and beautiful lady. It's the type of café with the family-owned business touch that puts extra care into everything.
