I really like the food here. The OTC cakes are tasty as is the majority of their breakfast food but the quality of service has been consistently awful. We've been made to wait up to 15 minutes before we're even given menus. Today I had to get up and get my own menu and was met with an apology from one if the 2 servers that was there but still no one came to our table. We waited for 10 more minutes and left. It's not all bad but when there's more than 3 tables occupied be prepared to wait. read more

My husband and I came here Sunday morning before halloween this year and got a seat by the window for two. The food was delicious and the service was polite and friendly! We were told this place gets very crowded so we were pleased to be seated right away (lucky chance). I plan on taking a few friends and family here and hopefully we can be seated. The only reason I put 5 stars instead of 4 (seating/busy) is because both waitresses were so accommodating to everyone that day and were so friendly despite the rush and the food was absolutely delicious. My husband got the corned beef and I got the everything bagel (which is actually just avocado toast with everything bagel salt) with a fried egg on top and a side of hash browns. This was my second time eating there with my mom and though the food is good, the service is not worth it. We decided to give them the benefit of the doubt the first time, but going there for a second time was a mistake. Both times going there, we were ignored for almost an hour after getting food and when apologized to for the "poor service" the waitress still continued to give us the same POOR service. For the terrible quality of service we were given both times I could have made my own breakfast for half the price, more coffee (not having to wait an hour for a refill), and had an omelet that has more flavor. When I do business in Ventura County, I often stay at the Bella Capri Inn. While staying there, I often eat at least one meal a day at the Old Town Cafe. Ari, the owner and chef always makes sure that you get great service and excellent food. I am from Omaha, Nebraska and love to have my steaks. Make sure you try the Kobayashi Steak & eggs for breakfast, you will not be disappointed. For lunch, try his fiery hot wings. Ari has a way of making these dishes unique with flavor. Prices are very reasonable and portions will leave you very satisfied. I look forward to my next business trip to California and look forward to the Old Town Cafe and Bella Capri. read more

Someone posted that they have never been so disapointed by reviews and yelp before and I agree. This place is awful. I even commented on this restaurants Facebook page and they removed my comments and instead had someone post that they loved the food, which makes me wonder if all these postive reviews are from friends. So beware. Today I took the family to the new place in town. I previously liked them on Facebook and had been seeing all the postive reviews and attractive pictures and menu looked good so we thought we would try them. $40 later I felt robbed. $6 each for a box of corn flakes. yes seriously. They almost forgot to give us the cereal, we had to go up to the counter and ask them about it. Then they gave us the wrong type of corn flakes. seriously. We got their special red velvet pancakes and it looked great but they were dried out and over cooked... yuck. We also got a sandwhich which we enjoyed, but the meal came with fries, I asked them to make them garlic fries which is on the menu. According to the menu the garlic fries come with a garlic aeloli and spicy ketchup. When we got the fries and no dips we asked and they said they only come with the side order. They gave us the ketchup and charged us an additional 4$, which is the cost of the whole order of garlic fries. In addition my kids ordered kids chocolate milks, each $2.50. And they only filled them half way. The service was awful, food awful and they jipped us, as well as being overpriced. The owner will tell you nothing in the place is over $4, according to my FB comment, but either her employees are robbing her blind or she has no clue. DO NOT GO THERE!! I had heard good things about this. Sadly mistaken or things have gone downhill in a very bad way. I'm speaking on almost 20 years experience in food service and this was ridiculous. Our waitress was obviously new and had little or no training which isn't her fault, very nice though. 1 cup of stale coffee each, and our cups were taken away without refills being offered. The food took less than 5 minutes to come out. We both had egg dishes, no sides according to our waitress who had to look at the menu herself before answering incorrectly (and we still didnt get any) The food was in the window and out quickly, but luke warm at best. The meat was all dry, ham, bacon and chorizo. The eggs tasted like they were precooked and then microwaved and my bell peppers never touched a pan I'm sure. The worst part in my opinion was that (what I was told) The owner was in the kitchen letting this go on and the last straw was the waitress taking our check to the register and placing it on the counter and not back to us. Common sense? I think so. Still tipped a little over 20% because I know the feeling and she tried. Maybe on a busy day they make good fresh food, but I will never go back, horrible 1st impression. Have driven by this location for many years, and finally decided to give it a chance. Walked in and was kindly greeted by Erica. She got us a table right away and offered us a selection of various coffees and mimosas. I decided to have the Latin Lover scramble with Mojo potatoes. This is a small cafe that also offers specialty coffee drinks. Some of the menu prices are over priced. I ordered an adult sized fruit bowl, which is the same price as the children's but the children's is smaller. That doesn't make sense to me. The fruit bowl was mostly pineapple, that we couldn't eat because the putter flesh was still on the pieces. I can go to Costco to buy a pineapple for 2.99. So when I pay the same price for a bowl of fruit, if it could be edible that'd be great. The cafe has great coffee. The pancakes were fluffy, more like griddle cakes. read more

While this restaurant has really good food and is a quaint little breakfast/lunch area, it needs to hire more help. We waited about ten minutes to have our order taken and we did not receive our silverware and drinks until after we received our food. I've had breakfast here 3 times now, while staying at the adjoining Bella Capri Inn, and it has always been good, with the best pancakes, light and fluffy. This place is way too small, you can literally feel people's clothing brush you as they walk by. It's way too squished and uncomfortable. The breakfast burrito was plain and the potatoes weren't fully cooked. The Spanish special (chilaquiles) wasn't as good as its hyped to be. Located in Old Town Camarillo with a beautiful view. You have the option to sit inside the cafe or outside in the patio to enjoy a beautiful breeze in sunny California. Once arrived the waitress immediately attended us and gave us her recommendations. So many great options to chose from! Triple Berry toast was to die for! Nice and fluffy with berry jam in the middle! The breakfast burrito was bigger than other breakfast burritos and so flavorful! The Latin lover omelette was ammmmmazzzing! Covered with chipotle sauce on top and chorizo, ham, bacon and jalapeño inside! It was just the right amount of spicy! Chorizo was nice and juicy and alongside with the hash cakes it was a perfect combination! Chef came out and asked how everything tasted. Applaud the Chef for the right amount of flavor in all his dishes, nothing dry everything tasted amazing! Customer service, food and location was all perfect! I would give 0 stars if I could. Worst customer experience I've ever had at a restaurant. My boyfriend placed an order for bacon breakfast burritos well done potatoes, and when we got our order there was no potatoes in the burrito. So I tried to call and they didn't answer, finally when i got ahold of them they told me to bring the burrito in and they will make me a new burrito. Fine so I drove back and told the lady my situation and Zander admitted to takin our order wrong and the cook had the audacity to stick her head through the counter and tell me I ordered a bacon breakfast burrito not a potatoes breakfast burrito and that the potatoes were smashed in. I told her to look at the burrito there was none. I didn't understand why I was arguing with them when the my told me to come in and they would make me a new burrito. we were in camarillo, and came across this place in the downtown area on a Monday for lunch, prices were good around $6-10 they have a small patio so we took our dog, food was ok i got a breakfast burrito lots of eggs my wife got the Huevos rancheros it was only 2 corn tortillas and 1 over easy egg a few beans on top and a lot of sauce so food we give 2 star( i great up in oxnard so i can tell good mexican food) service 4 star so total 3 star read more

I have been looking forward to trying this place. I will not b back. Service was slow, food was not so good. I ordered a Tuna melt and salad. Tuna was grilled, dry and i could hardly eat it. Tasted old and fishy. I felt sick the rest of the day. Salad was old and tomatoes look like they were from days ago. My husband ordered steak and eggs. I was very excited to try the Old Town Cafe after reading all the reviews. My Mom and I left early to avoid the crowds during the Friday lunch rush. We arrived and there was a handwritten sign (looked like a 5 year old wrote it) and it just said "Closed". No explanation, just closed. We were very disappointed. If you are going to close your restaurant on a Fri afternoon you should at least give a reason for the closure. I saw people inside and they saw me but didn't come to the door to tell us what was going on. We went there for the first time today for lunch. At 11:30 a.m. the inside was empty with just two people sitting at tables ouside. There was only one waitress and we had an awkward, "seat ourselves" moment? We picked up our own menues on the way to the table and looked and waited, looked and waited. 15 minutes later we got our drink order taken. 25 minutes later we ordered. What is the problem? Staff were disorganized, long wait just for a cup of coffee, they didn't bother to come by and refill my cup,, took over 30 minutes to get our food and then order was wrong. Lack of attention to the small details that matter such as a spoon to serve my coffee, butter for my husband's pancakes, and bringing out an incomplete order (sides without the main entree). Most upsetting is an senior citizen sitting on the patio who had to get up and use his walker to ask the server for help. She said be right with you and then he stood there for about 5 minutes and then he tried to get their attention before just going to sit back down. OTC would get a higher rating for me on food. The food is actually really good but there need to be improvements. The rating is also lower for service. It's annoying slow and inefficient. I wanted to train the waitress how to carry a tray. She painstakingly delivered one beverage at a time. I could barely take it. We also waited too long for everything, she never reputed coffee. These things are inexcusable for a cafe. Food wise, there is major potential. The place makes a great hollandaise which means someone knows what they are doing in the kitchen. The pumpkin bacon pancakes were delish and creative. The fail was they syrup and no butter. The perfect cakes needed a salt Carmel syrup (warm) with melty butter- otherwise it was just a muffin situation. If the owner could train the staff to serve the delish food and make some minor improvements to the accompaniments, decor and fix the wobbly tables then I think they could rock it much better. None of this costs money, it just takes leadership and management! read more

I came in early one saturday AM before the farmers market was in full swing. This place is always packed and Ive been wanting to try it for a long time. I have also wanted to try fried chicken and waffles for a long time. It was cheat day on the diet so I splurged. I was a little disappointed for a few reasons. One, the chicken was tiny. It came with two teeny thighs and a teeny wing drumstick. It was also dry as the desert, which made me wonder if it was old, or re-cooked, or came from one of those fried chicken frozen dinner boxes. It was, for sure, not fresh. There was not much meat on the bones. The waffle was also disappointing. It was not crispy on the outside, nor particularly fluffy. The taste was great (maybe its because its the first non-diet food item Ive ingested in a long time), but the texture was a bit chewy and nothing special. And, it was ten dollars. So I wasnt impressed with the meal....at all. I was sort of resentful I spent so much on something and left hungry and over my calorie limit for the day. Booo.
