Terrible place to take your car. I tried to support local business, specially in tuff times like this but unfortunately my experience was not what I expecte. Bob the owner asked me to drop off the car early morning for a break service, never got a call back, so I called them. Bob the owner answered the phone and for my surprise he didn't even remember about my car, when I start to be more specific he said, oh I dropped the ball, so no service was made on it. Next morning when I stop by to check it out, at first he was very rude saying that they were the best in town, I see it. He said that some of the employees would be taking a few weeks off and he just handed my key and asked me to go on someone else. The protective plastic flap under our front bumper got dislodged on our way home from LA to San Diego, and luckily we got off on the exit closest to Old Town Garage! Being unfamiliar with the area, we searched for garages close by and gave this one a call, not super hopeful that anywhere would have fast availability. I had an alternator changed out which failed a few months later, brought it back in and they changed it out at no cost, no questions asked! I was on my way to deliver samples to a customer when my Mercedes E Class showed red warning lights and began to overheat. Two people in the parking lot I pulled into referred me to Old Town Garage, just a block away. What a great experience! One of my serpentine tensioners disintegrated. The owner took a look and told me exactly what the problem was. Long story short, I got the part ordered and replaced in about an hour. I was charged for a half hour of labor because that's all it took. I mention that because I could have been charged the full rate for everything, but I wasn't. While I waited I also had one of the funnest conversations with the mechanic and the family who owns the place. If I lived closer, I would absolutely use them for any and everything related to my cars. Coolest garage I have ever used. read more

Not impressed. Old Town Garage was recommended by a few friends. I tried it a few times and each time was underwhelmed, not so much by the actual mechanical work, but rather their lack of communication and general attitude. I should add that the three friends who recommended Old Towne Garage to me own American cars while I own Honda/Acura. Not that it should matter because I asked them specifically if they were comfortable with my cars and they answered yes. Their main front office point of contact is some aging, too cool, and calls everyone "guy" hipster. That would be OK if he actually got his job done, but on two different occasions he didn't call back and finally at the end of the day I called him and he just failed to ever call me to let me know the status of my vehicle. Unacceptable. One of my vehicles that was having an ignition problem was misdiagnosed as a fuel valve. The problem remained after $500 of diagnosis and parts. I took it to my new mechanic (Daughter's Inc. in San Juan) and the problem was immediately diagnosed as a low battery. I can't recommend Old Town Garage. read more

Took my '97 Jaguar XJ6 for engine work. They are very clear about explaining the problem with the car and what needs to be done. Repair prices are very reasonable. They are not going to recommend work that doesn't need to be dome. I am very pleased and will take my other cars there in the future. read more

Over the years I have been to five different mechanics around San Clemente and for one reason or another stopped using them. I needed brake work done and got an estimate from a local auto shop. Seemed really high to me. So a co-worker referred me to Old Town Garage and they fixed my brakes that afternoon for HALF the price what was quoted from the other guy! Best auto repair experience ever. Dealer wanted to charge me $900 bucks as engine light was on. They wanted to replace the charcoal canister . Went to Old Town and they recommended just replacing the gas cap ($16). Engine light off and passed the smog test. They were great to deal with, honest and helpful. Can't say enough. read more

Charles and Darren and the boys at Old Town saved our Jaguar XJS. I went for a biennial smog inspection 3 months ago and failed the smog test due to my OBD II monitors not setting. The emissions were fine I might add. Since then, I have been to the Jag dealership and other garages who simply told me to drive it more. I put almost 1,000 miles driving and the monitor still hadn't set. After the car registration expired, I pleaded my case to the Referee of the State Automobile Repair Bureau. He told me to get it fixed at a Star Repair. I went and was told there was nothing wrong. I called Old Town Garage...They told me they thought they could fix the problem. They were the first garage to actually act interested. It ended up that the OCM needed to be replaced. It was also a pain to find one; but, they took the time to do. My wife and I are grateful that they came to rescue. read more

First time I went to this guy I just needed a flat tire plugged. He did it in about 10 minutes and didn't charge me anything. I thought to myself, what a great guy. I'll definitely give him my business. So I went back recently for an oil change. I have a 2014 Jeep Cherokee with a 4 cylinder engine. I didn't bother asking the price because hey, it was just an oil change. When I picked up my car and he told me the price I about fell over. $80.00!!! Granted my car takes 5.5 quarts and it uses semi-synthetic oil, but $80.00 is a total rip-off. He justified it by saying he uses really good oil. He charges $10.00 per quart for the oil, a $5.00 EPA, $10.00 for the oil filter and the rest is tax. I saw the same oil at Walmart for $28.00 for a 5-quart bottle. Will never go back to Old Town Auto Service again. read more

The worst auto expierience I have had and I've been in the auto business for over 20 years I tried to make a relationship with them as they are local to my town but Two times they over charged what they quoted me and right after they worked on my brakes I started having new problems in the bearings of the same area they worked on. Then as a repeat customer the third time I went back I gave them a third chance and they totally forgot about my car and left it in the street for a whole week straight without even calling or anything Super bummed out in these guys just a bunch of backyard amatures guess I should have known better by the looks of their looks just an old beat up shop hole in the ground I would say stay away from them they only get good reviews from their friends it seems super disappointed read more
