I went to La Quinta for the long Memorial Day weekend to play golf, but unfortunately tweaked my back on the first day. When I got to my hotel, I searched for a massage place and luckily found Old Town Massage. I booked a session with Annie, and wow -- I couldn't believe how much better I felt the next day! I told her to do whatever she had to do to fix me, and she really delivered. The massage was definitely intense (as I requested), and I did wake up a bit sore -- but it was a good sore. Most importantly, I was able to play golf the next day like nothing had ever happened. Annie is incredibly skilled and clearly has a gift. I left so perplexed and insulted by my masseuse after what I thought was a great massage. I called ahead asking for a masseuse with extremely firm pressure for a deep tissue and the receptionist told me it was $90 for 90 minutes. During the massage Lydia asked me how the pressure was and I asked her to go firmer. I was having some psoas tightness and asked if she could give me a stomach massage which she was equipped to do, (which is rare). Overall she combined some Thai massage techniques with traditional deep tissue and I felt great afterwards. Checking out, however, ruined the experience for me and I will not be retuning. She charged me $100 for the massage and when I reminded her what I was quoted, she started spinning a story that because she had to use more pressure the massage costed more. 1) She failed to mention this during the massage and 2) if I was a man would she have pulled the same hoax? I specifically called in advance requesting hard pressure; she had plenty of opportunities to share any "caveats" to the rates. I read a similar review before going, and was optimistic it was a fluke. On top of this, she had the audacity to lecture me about my 20% tip.. claiming I should have given her more since she used more pressure. Read the room Lydia. Terrible customer service. Of the hundreds of massages I've gotten around the world I've never heard so much crap from a professional. Beyond that experience, the place was tidy, but the room was freezing. I asked her to turn the fan off and she said no since she was hot. As she turned me over I noticed the door had been wide open the entire massage which is a complete invasion of my privacy. I love this place! I go regularly. If you enjoy gentle rubbing, they will do that. If you want aggressive deep tissue, they will do that. They will climb on the table and use their elbows and feet, if you like it that way. If you want them to focus on or avoid an area, they will. You just have to tell them in advance what you want. The place is small, very clean and not fancy. I do not like a fancy spa because I find the staff can be snobby and I never use all of the fancy amenities (locker room, jacuzzi, etc.) This place just has a waiting room and a few treatments rooms. I find the staff very pleasant, accommodating and Talented. And the reasonable prices can't be beat! read more

I have been coming here for two years, seeing Lydia. Her massages are good - strong and relaxing. The last two times I called, made an appointment WITH LYDIA, and both times I got there to find out she wasn't there. The first time, I was told they called Lydia but she was on vacation. OK, things happen. I didn't like the person who took Lydia's place: sharp fingernails, and she wore a bangle that kept making noise. The next time I emphasized and confirmed I was making an appointment with Lydia. I explained what happened last time. I was assured, "Yes, Lydia." I'll be damned but I got there an no Lydia. I got the same person. Same line: we called her and she's on vacation. I asked when she is expected back and she told me "Maybe November." Wait, let me get this straight: she's gone until November but you are still making appointments for her and telling me you "called" her? I reminded her she had my phone number - she could have called to let me know Lydia wasn't available. (As in really unavailable - in vacation for 3 months.) It was incredibly shady and I felt played. It was so upsetting I nearly left. But I have chronic neck pain so I needed the massage. I'm a good, regular client. And very generous tipper. But the BIG PROBLEM with this place is that there's a lady there that demanded a bigger tip from my husband. The total was $140 so he gave her $170 cash ($30 tip). She said "not enough" and grabbed his $100 bill that was in his hand and left the room and returned with 5 $20 bills. She layed them out and grabbed 2 $20 bills and said "this is tip ok". Mostly wasting time running through the same routines, not doing much. 50 minute massage at most stretched to 90 mins. I asked specifically for Swedish reflexology ($90) then got charged for deep tissue ($100). The card machine charged another $9 and then she wanted $20+ tip. I would tip $10 for the massage I got, but somehow got charged $115. I hate when the massage is meh and they still expect a big tip. I get a lot of massages, and this one was did not leave me feeling much better. If anything I'm frustrated that time was wasted and the masseuse wasn't very skilled. read more
