The food here is always good. The service is great. Dandre is our server. He makes great Mexican coffees. We are here at 8 AM so it's pretty quiet in here but getting louder by the minute and that's normal for here.

One of the many great options of traditional Mexican food in old town! Handmade tortillas, the vibes, and great atmosphere! I always love taking my out of town guests. Service is amazing and there's lots of seats. My recommendations: House specialties

    Chile Colorado $19.95

There was no wait for a party of five on a weekday. There was also plenty of parking in the back. I came here because I saw molcajete on their menu. We shared four dishes, which was a good amount for the five of us! We had just a few pieces of the chile Colorado left. We cleared everything else, including two baskets of the complimentary corn tortilla chips. Molcajete $40.95 - menu says it's shared for two. It is a good amount, and all five of us were able to try a bit of everything inside. We enjoyed the half avocado. Mariscada $28.95 - this dish stood out because it was cold and sweet. Everything else we got was hot. The shrimp was fresh. I liked the tomatoes. Chile Colorado $19.95 - this one was the least favorite of the group. We didn't finish it. Carne asada $24.95 - this was the favorite of the group. The plate came with beans, rice, and some salad with guacamole. We wish there was more meat. The dishes came out at once, and we somehow fit them all on our table. Our server was helpful, but it was funny that he didn't roll his r's. Credit card accepted. Lots of seating inside

This place is an iconic Mexican restaurant in old town San Diego. We love their breakfast and lunch. The red pozole soup was fantastic and had lots of flavor. Service was good and efficient. The carnitas plate with crunchy chunky pieces is delicious with lots of rendered fat so it's like big pieces of bacon. The tortillas here are outstanding and home made to order. I recommend a mix of both types. Red Chili Colorado was tasty and full of authentic spice flavor. It's even better second day. The restaurant was festive and fun atmosphere. We love this iconic restaurant.

The chile verde burrito pork is delicious! It was enough for us to split. It's superb hot, juicy & is served wet w/red or green sauce. We were there for breakfast at 8am, so we had the chilaquiles w/green sauce as well. It was great, too! Chips & salsa come immediately & the salsa is scrumptious. The atmosphere is fun & authentic & always busy. Love the bar, too.

Best authentic Mexican food in the area. Many other touristy restaurants on the same street but this is our favorite. Been there for almost 50 years. Friendly, helpful staff and rustic decor. They have fresh made corn and flour tortillas that are still steaming when they arrive on the table. Delicious! We're all love the carnitas plate and the strawberry horchata. Give it a try.

Parking can be rough but it's a solid restaurant. Can be pricy but the portions are large. A good amount of tequilas, margaritas, beers and related drinks. Great views from the top of the hill staff is friendly and the ambiance is worth the visit.

Quick service, good food, a little outdated, busy environment. Drinks were ok, carnitas platter for two was my favorite even though the meat was overcooked a bit.

House specials on Mendy. Actual menu is huuuge!

This was a solid place for a touristy area. Honestly, in general, old town San Diego is a lot of fun. It balances touristy stuff with authenticity in a rare way that makes it worth the visit. This restaurant is big, was crowded, but we got seats easy. Service was fast and friendly. Food was good sit down California style Mexican. Their handmade flour tortillas are definitely a highlight. They claim they are the best. Not sure about that, seems to be plenty of stiff competition in the area. I had their signature carnitas, crisped up. It was pretty basic but with hot sauce, cilantro, etc tasted really good. Price ended up being about 25 bucks a head with my family getting alcoholic drinks, so not too bad. I'd hit this place up if you're hungry and walking the area!

In town in business and craving authentic Mexican food. Asked my local relatives for recommendations and Old Town Mexican Cafe was top of the list. Bianca was the lovely young lady who served me and helped me with my dinner decision. The chips and salsa were fresh and delicious (order extra salsa...you're welcome!). Kicked off dinner with a strawberry blended margarita and a mini asada and adobada tacos with beans. The beans were amazing; slow cooked, creamy and seasoned to perfect. The tacos were tender and filled with flavorful meat. The house made tortillas? Home-run! Can't wait to go back again. Thanks for your kindness, Bianca!

Since Old Town is one of my…read morefavourite areas around town, I was pretty stoked to book our Friday, January 31, through Sunday, February 9, 2025 stay at the Fairfield Inn & Suites San Diego Old Town. We stayed in Rooms 245 and 253 - read on. Below are the pros and cons of the experience: PROS: * On January 22, 2025, for redemption of a Premier Plus Free Night Award up to 35,000 points + 262,000 Marriott Bonvoy points, I reserved a Guest room with 1 King bed for 9 nights - no out of pocket expense, YAY! * After seeing the room rate per night lower, on January 30, I was able to cancel the redemption of 262,000 Marriott Bonvoy points and rebook the same reservation for a total of 254,000 points + the Premier Plus Free Night Award up to 35,000 points. I saved 8,000 points, double YAY!! * Aleandro checked us in. He was informative and friendly. The hotel was pretty booked that night, so we were assigned to Room 245, but he told us that we could call in the morning to move to another room once one freed up the next day. * We called the following day and Chris at the Front Desk was extremely helpful in getting us a new room. She even went to Room 245 to deliver to us the keys for Room 253. * Microwave, mini fridge, and coffee station in the rooms * All day complimentary iced water, coffee and tea available in the lobby * Onsite market in the lobby * We did not pay for the $30/night parking in the underground garage, but were able to find free street parking around the hotel. * Daily Free Buffet and Continental and Hot Breakfast * Very nice-looking property with fully functioning fountains and beautifully landscaped spacious courtyard * Front Desk team members Richard and Aleandro were super hospitable and amiable. We enjoyed conversations with them. * They are pet friendly, triple YAY! * On-site exercise room * Welcoming lobby with functional fireplace * Complimentary Wi-Fi * Outdoor Pool and Hot Tub * Location - I LOVE Old Town!! CONS: * Our first room, Room 245, was disappointingly run down and needed better attention from housekeeping; the ceiling squares at the entryway, between the closet and bathroom, were clearly old and needed to be replaced, the bathroom door and trim were also in bad shape, the bathtub was not thoroughly cleaned, etc. * Our second room, Room 253, was a major improvement, but I still gotta say - housekeeping didn't THOROUGHLY clean the toilets. * Room 253's walls were THIN; I could hear the neighbours talking, laundry spinning from the laundromat, and there was a constant banging from movement downstairs. * No safe in the rooms. Overall, I was very happy with our stay - awesome location, the property was wonderfully nice and well kept, our rooms were comfortable, and the front desk associates were remarkably affable. I would most definitely choose to stay at the Fairfield Inn & Suites San Diego Old Town again, especially since they are a pet-friendly hotel (We like to bring our doggies with us wherever we go). They are currently one of our favourite places to stay in San Diego. I hope to return soon.

We asked upon the move if they could put the pack and play in the new room. (1) We let them know that we would not be around for the entire day, so they were welcome to put in any time, as long as it was before the time we got back, which we figured would be around 7ish. (2) Got back to the hotel man who helped us bring up our things said he would bring it right away when we saw the pack and play wasn't in the room. (3) The guy never came so we Called down and they said sure, they would have someone bring it up. We told them we were leaving again, so if they could put it in the room, they said yes. (4) We got back the second time and it wasn't in there, so we went down to the office and asked them for a 4th time and they said yeah they would bring it up right away. We left again and said we would be back around 10 so they could put it in there any time before then. They assured us it'd be in there when we got back. It wasn't. (5) We called down and they said sure thing, someone would bring it up. We waited and waited and no one showed up. (6) Husband had to go down there and physically wait while they brought it out and handed it to him. I don't think it should take 6 times to get a pack and play. They were doing renovations and that didn't bother us at all. It's nice on the outside and they do have a laundry facility which is nice when you have a 2 month old. Also, had 2 soap dispensers and 1 conditioner in the bathroom. No shampoo. Won't return to this hotel in the future.

This time around, it was just the 3 of us, to chat over some wine and apps. Had their April featured Pinot, which was amazing (had 2 glasses). It's good to keep in mind that they only sell their flatbreads on certain days and unfortunately, they didn't serve it when we went. First, I still really enjoy the Carruth Wine Garden. It is nice to have an outdoor space to drink wine right in the center of the city. In general there plenty of parking ,and it is dog friendly. As far as the wine, it is very good. I like some more than others. More recently, I have enjoyed the Unicorn Red Blend ( a longtime favorite) and the Syrah. I love that it is dog friendly, inside and out. My dog loves going there and she makes friends each time. A change that they made recently is that the main garden area is now child-free, which was a positive change in my options, as it had gotten a bit chaotic in the past with children not being very well supervised. The still have a family-friendly outdoor space. In the past, there was always live music when I came. I was there most recently on a Saturday evening and was disappointed that there was no music. Also, the prices have gone up ($18 per glass). Unfortunately, I found the pours to be somewhat inadequate, though it depended which staff member was pouring the wine. They do not allow for outside food, and only make certain dishes certain days of the week, which unfortunately doesn't allow for many options if you are hungry. Water is readily available inside and outside. All in all, it is a lovely place with good wine to come with friends and your 4-legged friends. It has gotten a bit pricey, and I do wish we could bring out own snacks, but I still enjoy going and am sure that I will be back.
