We came for Sunday Happy Hour and honestly! We were impressed. All their beverages including alcoholic drinks are 1/2 off during happy hour. As well as all their appetizers and their quesadillas. On this particular Sunday (today), I ordered the carne asada quesadillas and not only was it a nice big portion but they were also very good. My husband ordered the cochinita flautitas and they were delicious, especially dipped in salsa. Speaking about salsa, hubby asked for a spicier salsa and they brought out an habanero salsa that was super spicey. Fair warning! I mean it is habanero chile! The place is very nicely decorated, airy and with lots of plants in the back The service was absolutely amazing! Our server was attentive and very friendly. So I've been here a few times and really enjoyed it. So I made reservations for my friend's birthday dinner for Friday night. It started off good, we found street parking right across the street, no wait at the hostess stand, and they saw us super fast. And that's where the good news ends. We waited close to 20 minutes for anybody to come to the table with water or take a drink order. We then ordered two cocktails and the appetizer of guacamole. I'll have to say the guacamole was really bland. The drinks were good, but just good. My friend ordered the ceviche and I ordered the Caesar salad. The ceviche was OK, but really had no shrimp and not a lot of fish. It was mostly liquid and tomatoes. My Caesar salad was served in a bowl. That was way too small for the portion and the greens were very bitter. We asked for a to go container, and again waited 20 minutes. It was kind of disappointing that we made the reservations and put on there that it was a birthday and nobody even mentioned it. They never circled back around to see if we wanted second drinks or dessert. Didn't check in to see how the food was. Overall, it's very disappointing as I had really enjoyed my last couple of visits. And also kind of embarrassing because I had really hyped the place up for my friend's birthday. Was staying in the area while visiting San Diego and kept passing by this spot. It looked inviting and a nice scenery for the neighborhood. Did some quick research and found they have a great happy hour so of course I had to go check it out. Did a walk in around 4pm on a Monday and it was pretty busy! The space is airy and lively. Loved the openness, plants, and friendly service. Happy Hour bites were excellent and were 50% off. Ceviche was fresh, flautas were crispy and the queso was piping hot. This restaurant has great ambiance and is a good choice if you're looking to go out for a nice dinner. I got the street tacos plate with pastor, carne asada, and carnitas. The carne asada was my favorite out of the three. I'm knocking down a star because the carnitas were pretty mushy and bland. If you like spice, ask them for their habanero hot sauce! It has a major kick so a little goes a long way. I also ordered the chips and guac which came with a huge bowl of house made tortilla chips and huge dollop of guac on top. Let me start off by saying this is the best Happy Hour that my wife and I have had so far in San Diego. 3-5pm every day 50% off all their alcohol to include their cocktails and their appetizers and quesadillas. We got our customary classic Old Fashioneds and they were definitely delicious. My wife then got a Mezcal Old Fashioned and it was surprisingly delicious. The bartenders were very attentive, gracious, and fun to be around. We then got our food which was 50% off because of the happy hour. We came by this spot since we were craving some Mexican cuisine after hitting up the little Italy farmers market earlier in the day. We came with a pup and this place was listed as dog friendly. The staff were kind and accommodating and even gave our pup some treats and he was behaving well. We ordered a couple of drinks to start off - a margarita and another (I forget the name but it was purple) we got it with salted rims and I'm not sure if they accidentally mixed a bunch of it in because these were the saltiest drinks I've ever had - tasted like I was drinking straight salt water. We visited the Mission Hills spot and had a really great experience. I ordered the surf and turf one-pound burrito, and it did not disappoint. Started as two of us but had a bunch of friends join us through our time there, and the servers/hosts were all super accommodating with extra chairs and eventually moving us to a larger table. What a fun, happy hour spot! They're happy hour deals included half off all drinks, and a discount on their appetizers in quesadillas. Food was amazing, and drinks were super tasty, I got there a couple minutes before 4:30, and half hour ended at five. The girl seated us was very expressionless, and we couldn't tell if she had seats for us or not. We went in and were delighted with the decorative interior, extensive beer wall, and music themed menus. The server was quick with our food and was lovely. She brought everything we needed and checked in with us. Quesadillas were decent, but the selling point was how they cooked the carne asada. Tacos, chips, and cocktails were okay. We went to Mission Hills for a pop-up Christmas experience restaurant but the line was ridiculous. Instead we went to La Puerta and I'm glad we did. The place is super cute and it's has Christmas decorations up. We took advantage of the Tavo Tuesdays deals. Our server, Shawn, is fantastic. He was very cheery since we walked in, made great recommendations and checked on us often, even when it got a bit busier. To start we ordered the refriend beans and it was great and super hot (which I love). For Taco Tuesdays they have $3 street tacos. The pollo asado, carnitas, and shrimp were great options. I got a Paloma that was very refreshing and their tequila flight (as pictured). I'm not sure what tequila brand is used for the flight but it was smooth. I got my food through Uber eats I have to say it's so disappointing when they don't give you silverware how am I gonna eat this in my hotel room one star off! Then the rice and beans were so dry. It was inedible. Skip it if you can. Suggested by two different people at the AAA office, we decided to try this place. I drove past this restaurant on the way to the AAA office, so it was dejavu to be back in this neighborhood, called Mission Hills. Right away, this place was giving a vibe us Sacramentans don't really have. Sure there are some restaurants in Sacramento that have open air from the patio to the inside, but honestly.....less than a handful. So when I saw, and felt, what I experienced when I walked up to La Puerta, I knew I was in for something special. We were seated immediately and given chips/salsa. The menus that had album covers on the front, with every one being different. The decor was inviting, fun, refreshing and lively. Our server greeted us and took our drink order. The menu is extensive and offered some dishes I've never seen before. Nonetheless, we played it safe and ordered what we know. This is what we got: Torta "La Puerta" This had pork, steak, ham, cheese, mayo, lettuce, tomato, avocado, onions and jalepenos....whew! It was super tasty and definitely special. That's why it was under the La Puerta Signature Dishes section of the menu. I would order this again, but only after I try about ten other things, so I'll have to circle back around to ordering this anytime soon. Cochinita Tostaditas This was basically a tostada with pork, beans, avocado, cheese, pico de gallo, onion and lettuce. There were five of them and since it was happy hour, it was only like $6!! Crazy value!!! If I was a drinker, like many of the patrons there, I would have had several, considering the money you are saving on food. Definitely coming back for this one during happy hour. Wow!!!! Love this place!!!! My high school girlfriends, we all got together and someone picked La Puerta mission hills. The decor was so cool, reminiscing of our times in high school. Our waiter Loukas was amazing!!!! Dealing with 12 women!!!! Great customer service Loukas!!!!! The food was great! The tacos looked amazing. Everyone was raving about the food. First off the tacos on Taco Tuesday were not just any ordinary ones, they were DELICIOUS. I recommend thier Tuesday Happy Hour specials, around 3 dollars for a taco. These ain't no puny looking ones, these pack a punch. If you're feeling like tacos on a Tuesday I highly recommend. Drinks are good but not as stiff (pause) as expected. FYI: all of the servers were awesome, except for this young lady with short hair. We had asked for salsa but she never returned and kept ignoring our table. He didn't even let us know about the taco Tuesday specials which we overheard from the adjacent table. Drinks were good but the food was average. The tacos were tiny for the price they charge per plate. The grilled vegetables quesadilla was absolutely bland and lacked even basic salt-pepper let alone expect any taco seasoning. It was just full of onions and cheese which wasn't even grilled thoroughly for some extra flavor. The food also took over half an hour to arrive on a not so busy night. Overall it's a decent spot if you're walking around the neighborhood and want to grab a drink at the bar and maybe some guac & chips. The happy hour special is from Monday- Thursday 3-5pm and it includes 1/2 off appetizers, quesadillas and drinks. The guacamole was a huge portion and it was tasty. It was my favorite item we ordered. The Al Pastor quesadillas were really good too and it was a huge portion that was perfect for splitting. We also got the ceviche which was just meh. This was my second time coming here but my experience was so much better this time. First off, the restaurant is beautiful. It has an indoor/ outdoor vibe as there is a roof but it's all open which also means dog friendly. The interior is beautiful with a full bar, a few TVs, and a plant wall. We came for happy hour which is every day 3-6 pm. It's so nice they have happy hour on the weekends too because most places are only during the week. Their happy hour is a great deal- half off bar drinks, apps, and quesadillas. My husband and I got two quesadillas and they were a decent size and very filling. We got one carne asada and one pollo Asado. Initially I really liked the carne one better but I later really liked the chicken one. The meat in both were so tender and flavorful. The chicken was juicy and not dry at all. They came with a Smokey Chipotle salsa that was delicious and a pico de gallo. We also got chips and salsa which were complimentary- you just have to ask! The chips were those crunchy, salty restaurant style chips that are a perfect vessel for salsa. It came out with two salsas, one a tomato base and the other a verde. Both were so good, not too spicy but with a great blend of flavors. I think the biggest difference in my experience this time was the service. Our server was Jeremy and he was great. He was genuinely friendly, came by with refills on water and chips often, and never rushed us. There were other staff members circling the restaurant as well for refills. They were getting pretty busy as we left so I would definitely recommend to come early if you want happy hour prices (~$17 for two full meals). They also have a food menu which has very big portions for their burritos, tacos, and their fries. The food is a bit pricier for the overall food.
