I walked in as a party of 3. There was no wait time and the environment was not busy at all for it being around 3:30pm. We had ordered watermelon juice and instead of it being brought out, they had brought out orange juice and when the server took it away, she brought out the same orange juice that we said we didn't order. Once our food arrived, they did not bring the consomé that was supposed to come with the quesabirria tacos. My friend had also ordered carne asada fries and it came out plain without the pico de gallo on it. I would not recommend based off the attentiveness of the server as well as the food lacking flavor.

Invited to a private party on a Saturday evening. Great graduation party with chips, salsa and guacamole at each table. Food was very good but the buffet setup was a bit chaotic. Next to the plates and utensils were the condiments and the tortillas were in the middle with the beans and rice at the end. They cleared it for desserts. The flan was delicious Service was very friendly and efficient. I had their watermelon juice which I enjoyed along with their house Margarita. Parking on a Saturday evening was a challenge but after a few try's I found a nearby park spot.

The food and services by Stephany were overly good.I had the best mole and enchiladas suizas ever in here

Cocinas Del Monte is the current tenant at a corner suite of a busy intersection in Old Town. The space has seen many Mexican restaurants pass through its doors which is unusual because the area gets a decent amount of foot traffic from visitors. They have a covered front and side patio for outdoor seating and an inside dining room which was where I ended up. A couple of large parties were seated, but the rest of the place was unoccupied. Two separate menu booklets were handed to me, one for beverages and one for food. I selected a Strawberry Lemonade for a drink that did have fresh fruit slices added and wasn't too sweet. I was in the mood for a breakfast item and chose a Denver Omelette from the list of five preset combinations. Ham, bell peppers, onions, and mixed cheese were the ingredients. A choice of toast (English muffin was my pick) or tortilla along with a side (hash browns was my pick) came with the order. The hash browns were grilled to a nice degree of crispiness. A couple of pats of butter were provided for the English muffin. The omelette was okay because it was a bit smaller in serving size for the price compared to some of the local breakfast joints I frequent. The service from the staff was acceptable. I gave a 3.5 star rating for my recent breakfast Cocinas Del Monte.

Brought the family to SD today to have a good breakfast and came across Cocinas del Monte. Great Authentic Mexican restaurant with a solid breakfast menu, friendly staff (shout out to Sebastian our waiter) and chill San Diego vibes. We sat in the outdoor patio by the water feature and it was a great experience. Toddler friendly too.

Located in old town, there are plenty of street parking around the spot. We sat on the patio for brunch. Our server was welcoming, though the overall service was noticeably slow. It took a while for our food to arrive, and even longer to get our check. I ordered the Del Rancho Eggs with green salsa. The dish was descent (the best thing was probably the rice), but didn't stand out compared to other authentic Mexican spots. The corn tortillas also didn't taste freshly made, which is a letdown. I'm not sure who was in charge of the playlist, I found it funny the restaurant was playing high school pop music the whole time we were there.

Came here for the first time with my wife after seeing good reviews on this place definitely not coming back. The food was cold , leafy greens salad was not fresh wilted and mushy . To make matters worse my wife found hair in chilaquiles. Definitely don't recommend this establishment.

Came here for a late brunch and we had a pretty great time! We were sat immediately as they weren't that busy. The outdoor dining area was breathtaking with the fountain that they had in the middle. Our server was pretty quick in getting our order in but there was a bit of a wait for our food and drinks. I ordered the strawberry lemonade which was okay because it tasted a bit watered down. My friend ordered the tropical smoothie which he said was good but tasted mostly like bananas. For food I ordered the Eggs Your Way: over easy eggs, sourdough bread, hashbrows, and sausage. I really enjoyed my meal because the eggs was cooked just the way I like it and the hashbrowns were nice and crispy. $18 for this meal though seems a bit pricey to me. My friend ordered the Cinnamon Crunchy French Toast and he said it was good and satisfied his craving.

Love driving around old town San Diego , it was about 12pm and we were still desiring breakfast. If you want breakfast served all day this is the place to go. The servers are amazing and kind, they were really overwhelmed however and it did take a little longer than usual to get our food but all in all it was worth it. The flavors were delicious and you can definitely personalize your pancakes and waffles to your liking . The Mexican Hot Chocolate was decadent. I didn't like the fact that the inside seating did not have central air and in the dead of summer it was kind of gross. There was also weird pond in the middle of the restaurant but still found it odd, as I'm sure it may have a history attached to it somehow.

Had such a great brunch at Cocina del Monte today with my girlfriends! The food and drinks were delicious, fresh, and full of flavor. Everything came out looking amazing and the portions were great too. Our server Diana made the experience even better. She was so kind, attentive, and welcoming the entire time. She checked in on us often, made sure we had everything we needed, and had such a positive attitude. You can tell she genuinely cares about giving good service. Definitely recommend this spot for brunch, good drinks, and a fun atmosphere. We'll definitely be back!

Lovely restaurant! We sat by the "River" which had the fire pit, great atmosphere. Also, our server Abdi was so sweet and helpful with his recommendations!

Divorciados chilaquiles - go for just the red!
    Anna E.

OMG - I can't believe we haven't been here before! It's really good! I had the Divorciados (chilaquiles with red/green sauce) with chorizo. My hubby had Chilakiles with just red sauce. The red sauce was more flavorful, so I'd probably go with that next time. The beans and rice were tender and the eggs were cooked perfectly. Tons of flavor and a good size portion. They also have shredded hashbrowns, so I'd probably swap in those for the rice next time. Service was friendly and fast. Really cute outdoor patio. I'm not sure how much space is inside, but if you have a large party it's probably best to make a reservation.

It is a cool concept. I finally got the chance to try it out. I walked in and there was a solo customer and a group of three people ahead of me. The solo customer had just finished her order and I was focused on the menu so not really paying attention. Basically, you choose your base, additional add-ins, a protein, and dressing. The party of three in front of me were kind of talking amongst themselves and told me that I could go ahead. As I was ordering, I noticed they changed their mind and abruptly headed out. I was unsure why. The place is clean and ingredients look super fresh. As I was finishing up my order, I saw why they changed their mind and left. The woman serving me was helping me cut up my protein (chicken) and scooped it up with the knife and her gloves hand. She proceeded to pick up the remaining pieces with her gloved hand and place it in my salad. She immediately grabbed a towel and wiped her gloved hands with said towel. I was shocked and grossed out at the same time! She then rang me up (with same gloves on) and packed my order ina bag. I did not see her change her gloves at all. I understood why the party of three in front of me left. I was hopeful that the gloves were relatively new. I thought if I air fried the chicken well enough before the eating it with the salad, I might be safe. I was wrong. I had food poisoning. The salad was likely compromised by the chicken, but it could easily have been the chicken too (although I heated it up really well). I know it was from the salad because this was the only thing I ate that day and within the last 24 hours. When I work my shifts, I fast and when I get off, I sleep and get food a few hours after I wake up. It is sad because this place is clean and ingredients look fresh. The woman who handled my food was relatively friendly. I think she just needs retraining. This is why food servers get food handlers cards. I did scope out the place the next time I was eating at Flame Broiler. It was a different server and he changed his gloves and appeared to handle everything properly. That's why I can't give this place just a one star. Just be aware of how your food is being handled when you go in. Gloves are good if you change them and know how to handle food properly... otherwise, they are pointless! 0 / 5 - Food (poor handling) 3 / 5 - Cleanliness 3 / 5 - Service 2 / 5: Overall

They have a variety of preset menu options or you can go down the line and have them craft a salad to your liking. They're also available via delivery apps. For the price, I do think the portions are large. They don't skimp and fill the bowl to the brim with ingredients of your choosing. I also like that the free bread they include is pita. I find that while the portions are huge, it's never truly satisfying. Some of the greens can look a little limp, so I often choose my base based on what looks the most fresh. Some of the ingredient toppings are raw, while others have a marinade or seasoning. I like the seasoned cauliflower, but find the brussell sprouts to be dry and not quite right (in between raw and cooked). I've gotten a few different salads from here, but there's just something missing. On the first visit, Zack provided exceptional care and attention while helping navigate food allergies. Zack took the time to carefully check ingredients, double-check preparations, and personally come back out to verify everything to ensure safety. That level of care made the experience feel genuinely welcoming and stress-free. The chicken sandwich was fresh, satisfying, and thoughtfully balanced. Juicy chicken, ripe tomatoes, creamy avocado, and a bright splash of oil and vinegar came together beautifully on Big Front Door's roll, which had a great texture and held everything together well. The flavors were clean and vibrant. A little extra salt would have pushed it over the top for a salt-lover, but that came down to personal preference rather than any shortcoming. A dining companion ordered the avocado sandwich and could not stop raving about it, praising both the flavor and the freshness. The outdoor seating area deserves special mention. The shaded space was perfect as I do have sun allergies, especially for anyone who prefers relief from direct sun. The care taken in food preparation added an extra layer of comfort and trust. The second visit somehow raised the bar even higher. Micah went above and beyond to accommodate physical ability needs with patience, attentiveness, and genuine kindness. That effort did not go unnoticed and made the experience feel deeply respectful and inclusive. The roasted chicken sandwich ordered on the second visit was phenomenal. The roasted chicken was tender, savory, and full of depth, elevating the sandwich even further. Adding a bit of extra salt brought all the ingredients into perfect harmony, making every bite more satisfying than the last. This sandwich has officially earned a spot as a new favorite sandwich. Big Front Door was amazing not just for delicious, thoughtfully prepared food, but for the people who work there. Zack and Micah created an environment where care, kindness, and respect were clearly prioritized. No moment felt rushed, dismissive, or uncomfortable. At no point did anyone make the experience feel like a burden or inconvenience. A sincere thank-you also goes to the team members who prepared the food. Even without knowing names, the care taken to keep guests safer while serving delicious nourishment was evident and deeply appreciated. Big Front Door comes highly recommended for the flavorful sandwiches, the shaded outdoor space, the welcoming atmosphere, outstanding customer service, and the genuine kindness shown at every action.

The pierogi were a standout, the burgers were juicy and perfectly cooked, and the enchiladas were rich without being heavy. You can tell the kitchen takes pride in what they're serving. Both kids loved their food and even had enough left over for dinner the following day. We also tried the "Kiwi Be Friends" drink, which was delicious! Service was fantastic.
