I was more than pleasantly surprised by the quality of this breakfast. We wanted something fast and close to home and had never tried this restaurant so decided to give it a chance. My fiancé got the eggs Benedict and I got an egg dish similar to huevos rancheros. I unfortunately cannot remember the exact name of the dish, but it was tortillas with fried eggs and a sauce on top. They have the option for red or green, or you can do a combo of both. OK, now first of all that red sauce was outstanding. It had the most fantastic Smoky flavor. But if I had not gotten the red sauce and only gotten the green, I would've still been very satisfied. The green sauce had just a tiny bit of heat and a fantastic tanginess to it. The server, his name is Chris, suggested I get my eggs like his mother would make them. Sunny side up. Every bite was wonderful as my yolk mixed with the sauces. I also thought that the black beans and rice were very good. My man really enjoyed his eggs, Benedict, and although I did not try that, I did try the hashbrowns and thought they were great. I actually stole a little bit and put them on my plate with the red sauce, which was a fire combination. Satisfaction was at a high, my only complaint is that every single dish was $20+. They have lots of indoor and outdoor seating, and we were immediately greeted by our friendly server, Chris. As I've shared in other reviews, food in Old Town is typically expensive and not that good. Cocinas Del Monte is EXCELLENT, and I highly recommend it for breakfast. I had the Perfect Benedict, which included a thick piece of ham and a creamy hollandaise sauce. I usually order fruit as a side, but today I tried the hash browns. I did read some reviews complaining about service and how long they took on bringing out the food but the positives outweighed these minor reviews. For us a big party of 11 the service was great our server was real attentive and had a really good vibe to himself. The food was tasty! I walked in as a party of 3. There was no wait time and the environment was not busy at all for it being around 3:30pm. We had ordered watermelon juice and instead of it being brought out, they had brought out orange juice and when the server took it away, she brought out the same orange juice that we said we didn't order. Once our food arrived, they did not bring the consomé that was supposed to come with the quesabirria tacos. My friend had also ordered carne asada fries and it came out plain without the pico de gallo on it. The space has seen many Mexican restaurants pass through its doors which is unusual because the area gets a decent amount of foot traffic from visitors. They have a covered front and side patio for outdoor seating and an inside dining room which was where I ended up. A couple of large parties were seated, but the rest of the place was unoccupied. Two separate menu booklets were handed to me, one for beverages and one for food. I selected a Strawberry Lemonade for a drink that did have fresh fruit slices added and wasn't too sweet. I was in the mood for a breakfast item and chose a Denver Omelette from the list of five preset combinations. Ham, bell peppers, onions, and mixed cheese were the ingredients. A choice of toast (English muffin was my pick) or tortilla along with a side (hash browns was my pick) came with the order. The hash browns were grilled to a nice degree of crispiness. A couple of pats of butter were provided for the English muffin. The omelette was okay because it was a bit smaller in serving size for the price compared to some of the local breakfast joints I frequent. The service from the staff was acceptable. Love driving around old town San Diego , it was about 12pm and we were still desiring breakfast. If you want breakfast served all day this is the place to go. The servers are amazing and kind, they were really overwhelmed however and it did take a little longer than usual to get our food but all in all it was worth it. I had such high hopes for this restaurant, it was a beautiful ambience on the patio. There was a beautiful little pond with a huge shell that we sat around and we enjoyed the four flavored mimosa flight that was to die for. I would definitely love to go back again just for the mimosas, but to be honest the service was lacking. Upon arriving, we informed them that we had a reservation, and the girl looked utterly confused. We had booked through OpenTable to book our reservation and they had no system to keep track of what was available for their reservations, which was a little disappointing, especially if they got busy then I don't think they could actually appropriately keep track of those things. When we got seated the same girl who attempted to see us, but failed miserably was our server and we had three people, but only two of us receded at the time and she attempted to take our order and we had to inform her, we were still waiting on our third-party and to come back later. She took a very long time to come back after our third person arrived and did not bring her a water even after that person asked for one, after waiting ten minutes and our food coming out we had to ask the busser to bring out water which was promptly done. She never checked back to see how our food tasted or if we had everything, waters were never refilled in a timely manner, we had to walk up and grab our own condiments from the side station. Another table was sat and waited so long to be greeted they got up and left (pretty sure they were in her section as well), another table pulled another waitress to ask for things for their table because the same waitress was missing in action because she was counting her money she had made inside the restaurant. Overall the food and drinks were good and the busser should be promoted to server because he was more prompt with service to not only our table but others as well. read more

OMG - I can't believe we haven't been here before! It's really good! I had the Divorciados (chilaquiles with red/green sauce) with chorizo. My hubby had Chilakiles with just red sauce. The red sauce was more flavorful, so I'd probably go with that next time. The beans and rice were tender and the eggs were cooked perfectly. Tons of flavor and a good size portion. They also have shredded hashbrowns, so I'd probably swap in those for the rice next time. Service was friendly and fast. Really cute outdoor patio. As someone who grew up in San Diego, I probably should have known better than to go to Old Town for food but alas there I was. The restaurant was empty, not surprising for a Tuesday afternoon, and I was seated quickly. Service was fine, nothing notable about but nothing to complain about either- it was straight forward. The Midnight Mocha Latte was not good, $7.50 for a poor-quality espresso latte with Hershey's syrup. I would probably skip any cafe drinks altogether because this is not a cafe. The food was much better, the Mexi Benedict with the hashbrowns were well seasoned and had some spice to it, the eggs were poached well. The bill at the end of my meal is what has really influenced my rating- $40.84 for a brunch for one person. Curse myself for getting two beverages, almost $8 for a bad tasting latte was NOT a good choice. And $20 for eggs Benedict with chorizo and a thin layer of hashbrowns sound a bit steep on second thought (is chorizo not a cheap meat?). Tack on the 7.75% sales tax, 15% tip and 3% credit charge fee (who even charges fees for using a credit card anymore?), it adds up.
