Not to be confused with Old Town Pour House (chad/trixie) or Old Town Ale House (hippies/hipsters), Old Town Pub is a sleepy little space to go to kick back a few beers and eat some good pub food. I've never seen this place more than 3/4 full, and I prefer it that way. Plenty of TVs, decent beers on tap, and decent food make this the type of place you go to catch up with a friend while wearing sweatpants and no makeup. And no one will judge you for it. read more

Woot! My friend Lee and I stopped by here last night before the Yelp Party at Suite Lounge. I knew I would want something in my stomach before I started Suite-ing it up (Thank God I did because those Princess Martinis had champagne in them. Empty Stomach + Champagne anything = CRAZY Kristin). If I lived in Old Town, I would come here every Tuesday. Not only do they have one of my most favoritest beers, Fat Tire, on special ($3 a pint) but the burgers are 1/2 off. Those burgers are HUGE and delicious. In general: Love. This. Bar. I made it into this place for a scheduled social networking event. We had a lot of people, yet it was very comfortable. This is a cozy neighborhood bar with friendly, welcoming staff. What more could you ask for? I used to live in the neighborhood - but never made it in. Now this is just one more reason that I'm sad I don't live around there anymore. But I'll definitely stop in when I'm around there - because it is the kind of place where everybody knows your name. Or at least, they treat you like they do. And that is all that counts. First time here: late on a Sunday afternoon after a long walk; two big Bloody Mary's for $8. Second time here: a few weeks later, also on a Sunday afternoon. Greeted by bartender: "two Bloody Mary's?" On the way out of here the second time: two comped brunches for another Sunday. Oh, it's nothing special in here at all. Dated, and almost dingy. But, there is music from the 70's and 80's that is not too loud, with at least so far, nice people who care about your business, and good prices. My kind of place. read more

I absolutely love this place. The waitstaff is friendly, and the food takes a little longer than normal to cook, which gives you the chance to actually sit, enjoy some beers (or sodas???) and have a conversation. For a bar, it has quite the selection for your typical "bar food menu". Though we generally stay pretty lame and order a burger or chicken sandwich, their wraps and pizzas look great. I actually saw an Oriental Chicken wrap last night on the menu and I am gonna have to go back to try it. Essentially, it is a great place to get your "grease fix" on! Here is what I will say - I really enjoy the pizza, and they have Green Line beer, so that is always nice. In the end, though, it is really not a GREAT place. In the summer, they have some outdoor seating, which is nice. What really brings them down is their drinks and their service. I recommend you get the beer (a very small variety on draft) or wine (again, only two options) because they are super skimpy on their mixed drinks. A friend asked for wine to replace her mixed drink, and without prompting the waiter said he saw the bartender put a lot of liquor in it, and that she should just 'slam it.' Friend didn't bring up the weak pour, so it is clear they understand it is an issue, and instead of addressing it they are just encouraging people to chug their drinks so they don't need to comp them. read more

I can't believe this place is only a few blocks away from me and I've never tried it until today. I was craving a greasy lunch today so we headed to Old Town Pub where I've heard only the best about their pizza. I tried the margarita basil pizza and it was exactly the way I like it...thin crust and very good! My one complaint was that it took a while to cook, but most pizza places are like that. My friends tried the paninis as well and said they were great. It wasn't crowded at all and we were seated immediately...they also had plenty of TVs around to watch basketball games. read more

Great bar all around! In fact, my experiences there have been so...normal... that I can't really think of a ton else to say. It's a bar that does exactly what it says it will and it does it well. Beer selection is good, though I wish they had more on tap (lots of interesting bottles though). Decent food too (especially for a bar that's not a "gastropub"). And to echo what another reviewer (Veronica Z.) said - Sara the bartender is indeed awesome! Close to lots of bus lines and the El bust far enough from both the main Old Town "strip" and from the bars at State/Division that the vibe stays very neighborhood-y and relaxed. I have only been once but I fell in love with this place. Lots of fun. A small place, I never really ventured too far back, but you can see it's not a big place. The drinks are strong, our bartender was great, friendly but not overly so, she had a heavy hand, which always helps. I had a burger, which was awesome, and my friends said theirs were the same. I put money in the jukebox and my tunes came on immediately. Bonus. This only means the other patrons weren't cool enough to choose their own music. I am, and after I did the place was 10x better. Not that it needed to be... I like this bar a lot. I can't wait to go back. It's walking distance from my place, so I have a feeling I'll be spending a fair amount of time there. read more

I only ordered drinks here so keep this in mind as you read this review. We stopped here while we were waiting for a bike repair. We had an hour to kill so we figured we may as well get some drinks. So, I ordered a mojito and it was definitely the worst mojito I've ever had in my life. The soda was flat and it didn't taste minty at all. It basically tasted like a rum and soda, without all of the minty yumminess that a mojito should have. As you can imagine, I was highly disappointed. Also, they were $8. Not cool. I've visited Old Town Pub on a few occassions, mostly because I was wandering the streets and had no where else to go. It is nice to sit outside in the summer. The bar itself is nothing special, which is fine, the drinks are priced appropriately. The staff is friendly but nothing fancy but no one here is trying to be fancy. My big gripe, I was most recently there on a Friday night, there were about 30 people in the place at 10:00 p.m. and in walked a group of six girls who were dressed up and ready to go out. So why would girls dressed to go to Stone Lotus go to Old Town Pub? That was my first question. When I took a closer look, I realized that they were CLEARLY under age. A larger, older man with white hair whom I assumed was the owner was sitting at the bar, no one carded any of the girls, and one of the girls could not have been a day over 16. The "owner" bought the girls a round of shots. Then the bartender encouraged the girls to do a "mind eraser" or "brain freeze" - a typical drink to serve under age girls. My girlfriend and I had our first date here, and we're still together. I'm not saying that Old Town Pub made it all possible, but it certainly didn't hurt. OTP has great appetizers and a decent beer list for fairly reasonable prices. I highly recommend the mac and cheese, but you are unlikely to go wrong with any choice here. The service is fairly quick and the staff is really nice. The atmosphere is a little dark. But it's quiet and relaxed, except for the handful of guys who might show up to watch a sports game. I haven't been during the more crowded hours, but I expect things don't get too crazy. Overall, great food and drinks for a good price. Give it a try. read more

I hate giving this a bad review. I ate here once in the Fall and it was good. Nothing to write home about but great for a quick bite and a beer. However, the 1-star review is based off my experience this passed Sunday afternoon. Stopped in around noon. Place was pretty empty with one other table. We sat down in a booth and waited for about 10 mins. Server was in sight, but she didn't bother coming over. Starving, I went and grabbed menus from the POS stand. We looked at the menu, waited...waited...then decided to leave since we did not know how to enter our own order into the POS. After being ignored to that degree it's hard to forgive. Since we live a block away we will probably try it again, and hopefully leave a different rating. read more

Friendly staff, laid back atmosphere....Plus, the outside seating looked pretty inviting. When I got inside, I noticed a small group of mid-20ish men at the bar, staring intently at the tv's. Love it! Plus, when we were looking at the weekly specials, we noticed that one special was a 'blonde slut', as opposed to the ever popular 'red-headed slut'. So, when my curious friend blurted out, 'What's a blonde slut?' to the waitress, we were surprised (and thankful) that she didn't take any offense. Hands down my fave bar in Chicago. We can almost always find a seat here for football games, their tots are amazing AND OTP is all about Twitter (and Twitter specials that involve tots). I'm a firm believer in setting the correct expectations before you step into a place. This place is one of those neighborhood bars that just happens to serve food. It's NOT a 5-star restaurant who just happens to serve alcohol. Let's be clear about that right from the beginning. While some have referred to this as a high-end sports bar - it's not. It's a neighborhood bar. NOW - the neighborhood just happens to be in the up-coming and mid-to-high pricey neighborhood of Old Town, so you shouldn't expect $1 draft night. As long as you're good going in with spending a bit higher than an average price for "bar" experience (NOT club, but BAR), then I think you'll have the right attitude going in. Service? Well, to give you some context, it was mid-day on a monday in the middle of winter when we walked in. SURPRISE! We were the only ones in there. And the single person behind the bar looked busy stocking and prepping for the up-coming Monday Night Football impending rush. No problem, we're just two people. How bad could it be. Well, although we were steps from the bar, getting attention and service was a constant chore. To top it off, I unwrapped the silverware and there was chunks of nastiness on the knife. I chased down the employee and he quickly corrected the situation by giving me another fresh wrap of silverware - WITH ANOTHER BIG CHUNK OF STUFF ON IT! (are you kidding me). Okay, now this is starting to get concerning. So again I chase mister enthusiasm down and he brings me another, but this time (properly) waits to see the drumroll process of wrapping this one. ALL GOOD. Phew, okay, maybe now we can eat! Now. The food. I took a picture of the pizza that I ordered. As I normally do, I throw a bit of hybrid together of a couple of "stock" menu items so I can get a good idea of how things taste. The pizza had sausage on it. Stay away from that if you're not into liquidy/greasy stuff. These honkin' chunks of sausage exploded with grease. However, once removed, everything else was fantastic. My wife had a sandwich that was similar - once her sausage was removed, all good. So in all the food wasn't bad for bar food. I'd definitely change the sausage supplier, but all in all, good grub. Atmosphere is cool as it's kind of a brownstone basement kind of vibe. There are some cool aspects to the decor and walls, plenty of TVs, small enough to hang with friends without having to scream, and bathrooms were clean. The service was the real issue here and I chalk that up to no one being there and this one guy trying to use this time to do other things. The food was overall very much as expected for this kind of establishment. So that would have been 4 out 5 had it not been for the liquid sausage. Have fun! read more

Not sure if it's because I typically come in here after working out at the gym, but this place has some delicious food. The burgers are good, but my favorite is the blackened chicken wrap. Something about the chicken and soft rice together in a tortilla wrap just works right here. I also tried the mac and cheese w/ bacon (no jalapenos, I like my food non-spicy) and that was great as well. They also have a decent selection of beer (I love the monthly specials). Yum! The place is pretty quiet on the weekdays (I've never gone on a weekend), so if you want a place to sit down, enjoy a beer, and chat with your buddies, I would recommend coming here on a weekday evening....EXCEPT for Wednesdays. On Wednesdays, they have karaoke night, which can be both entertaining and irritating. Also, they seem pretty supportive of local groups and activities. Because I'm a member of the rock climbing group at the gym down the street, we usually get a nice discount whenever we come here. I've also heard that they've sponsored softball teams, volleyball teams, etc. so it's worth looking into if you're looking for a sponsor or discount for your group. read more

Conveniently located bar that has a slight charm on the inside. I enjoyed their Christmas decorations and twinkle lights. Both times I have been their service was slow. The bar is fairly busy the times I have been there which is a good sign for them. We ordered the Old Town Pub Combo (wings, fried mozzarella, fried mushrooms, and fries) and it wasn't anything special. The platter was mostly fries and a little bit of the rest. I went here on a Thursday, and the blackhawks were playing and the place was still empty. I swear the back of the bar was just me and the friend I was with. It made it kind of nice because we could hear each other and talk, but at the same time you didn't get that feeling you get when you're cheering for your team in a crowded bar with everyone else cheering for your team! So that's a matter of opinion, what isn't is that they didn't have Miller lite in a bottle. Only had it in a can. Not a fan of can Miller lite. Also the waiter came by like once to see if we needed anything. Which being that both our beers were empty we did. Overall, OTP is our go-to for Thursday nights and a great dive bar to have a couple pitchers of beer. However, we ordered three pizzas last night and immediately regretted it as soon as we took a first bite. The Mac & Cheese pizza was by far the worst pizza I have ever had at any establishment. It was more like a hard cracker with sub-par mac and cheese thrown on top of it. I turned the piece of "pizza" over and all the mac and cheese fell off and all that was left was the cracker crust. This place has so much untapped potential as far as ambiance goes. It's like a time warp back to 1970's Chicago. I love the booths in back and the weird stained glass on the walls. There should have been some Crosby, Stills and Nash or America playing in the background, but there wasn't. No, there was no music here, only loud bar chatter from the people in the front who seemed to be too dressed up to be there. Such a shame. I am not a big fan of this place. I feel as if they make things complicated that are really quite simple. Ordering something to-go seems to be quite a hassle. I've gone in there to order something and then just sat there. No one came by to offer a drink or anything. I've also ordered pizza from here before and gone in to pick it up. The bartender looked at me as if I was from outer space when I had asked about a pick up order. Apparently you had to wait for someone from the waitstaff to stroll by and flag them down to ask about a pizza. They never seem to have any staff members that are willing to assist you. They're too busy talking and chatting with other patrons or simply no where to be found. I've also walked in there with a large group of about 7 family members (hello large tab!) only to be completely ignored. My family, who doesn't make it to the city very often, was wondering why everyone there was being so rude. I didn't have an answer for them and I haven't been back since. I came here for a quick dinner while waiting for my bike tire to be fixed next door. The whole place feels like a cave, but the outdoor seating makes it a bit livelier. Our server was ok, food was ok but it took quite awhile. The sangria was $8, a bit pricey until I got it. It was huge! It was listed as one of there "featured" drinks and it advertised fruit, like all sangria. It came with a lemon slice, lime slice and a cherry the standard BAR fruit. This bar was a relief after walking by countless glitzy bars and restaurants because all I wanted was a comfortable to-the-point place for a drink and a small bite to eat. Their daily special when I went were tacos. Two dollars for generously filled tacos. Add a side order of tator tots with your beer, and you're relaxing. I live in the gold coast and our party of four was craving some pub food outside of the Division street bars, so we decided to hit up Old Town Pub. We went on a Saturday night at about six, and there was hardly anyone there. We awkwardly stumbled in and waited to be seated....but after 30 more seconds of awkwardness I yelled at the bartender and asked if we seated ourselves, she nodded yes. I'm pretty sure our waitress was new, because she had a hard time writing down our drink order, and then brought us the wrong drinks. My cousin and finace took a sip out of theirs to see if it was in fact the Stella they had ordered, but it wasn't. The waitress quickly snatched the drinks away and returned with new, correct ones. We saw her set the sipped out of beers on the bar, about 10 feet from our booth. We ordered our food and chatted while we waited. When my fiance put his elbow in my side and pointed to the bar, I looked over in horror as the bartender topped off the beers that we had sipped out of, and took them to some unaware souls sitting on the front patio. Whoops. The nice surprise was that the cheese burger I ordered was meaty, juicy, cheesy and delicious. The fries were respectable and I enjoyed every last bite of my meal and hard cider. Went to Old Town Pub last night because it was near to where I was going afterwards. Had the sausage pizza and it was ok. The person that I was with had the sliders and said it was ok as well. Our waitress was very attentive so that was good. There was surprisingly a lot of guys that were hanging out at Old Town. I don't know why this surprised me, but it did! I'd go back and maybe try the chicken panini or the greek salad with chicken next time. It was a short walk to Second City so Old Town was a decent choice. read more

We sat outside and sipped on sweet tea cocktails served up by an incredibly friendly (and Jameson pouring) bartender (didn't catch his name, but he hosts a comedy night on Mondays). The food was better than any of us had really expected! A friend of mine devoured his plate of ribs ($9.99 on special) as fast as he did shots of Jameson.
