Soon after, I requested a quote for front brakes only on a 2021 Hyundai Palisade and was given an estimate of roughly $1,600. I sourced a complete upgraded brake set myself for $397 and completed the job without issue. Draw your own conclusions from that gap. Most recently, I brought in my wife's Subaru for tires, an oil change, and a noise diagnosis. The tires were installed, but the oil change and diagnostic were completely missed. I was told it "wasn't on the work order" and asked to bring the car back. That's a basic process failure. After returning the vehicle, I was told the issue was front wheel bearings and advised to replace both--quoted at approximately $1,000. I purchased the parts myself for $178, and standard labor time for this job is widely understood to be around 1.5 hours per side. When I asked for a clear breakdown of how that estimate was calculated--parts, labor hours, and rate--I was told their system could not provide that level of detail. That answer alone is concerning. If a shop can't explain how a four-figure repair is priced, that's a problem.
