The Old Well Tavern just seems to continue to improve with age. We've always enjoyed the foot here and having grown up in town with the owner & his siblings, just makes frequenting this local establishment even sweeter! The Old Tavern frequently agrees to co-hosting fundraisers, tonight was A Promise to Jordan, which is a cause close to my heart. So tonight we ordered dinner, lunch & then some. I have to start with Smoked Brisket Sandwich! It is the best thing I have eaten recently. Just look at it! The bun was fresh and soft, the brisket was perfectly-cooked, thick slices of meat, covered with BBQ sauce and cheddar. It was so good I abandoned my plan to eat only half... I kept telling myself, one more bite. A must try! My husband ordered the Sausage & Pepper special and also could not stop himself, and polished the huge portion up! He loved it. I hate to admit this, because they're one of the most popular menu items... I keep ordering them, but that's because I forget I don't care for them too much. The cuts of meat is great and they're cooked perfectly and can be pulled apart with your fingers should you try. They always have a bottled Smokey flavor that is too strong for me. That said, these have been on the menu for *years* and they are sometimes sold out. I keep ordering them, and the flavor hasn't changed (so I need to stop ordering them ), but what that tells me is that Everyone Else must love that Smokey flavor! So try them if you love smoked flavored meat. The brisket had the perfect amount of smoke flavor for me. The Rueben and Boneless Chicken wings are old reliables... always amazing. Great serving sizes and always perfectly cooked, never dry. The tater tots were also delicious. I love knowing we have the chicken & Rueben for lunch tomorrow.

    Appetizer sampler

Was visiting family in Connecticut and we went here because it is one of their favorite places and I have to say it was really excellent food and barbecue, a lot better than I thought it was going to be. We got wings, burnt ends, sampler appetizer, and sampler barbecue everything was great. We'll definitely be back again to try their famous burgers.

    Fish and Chips Friday 9/1/23

Service by "Eve" was excellent. Friendly, efficient. Broccoli cheddar soup an Baked onion soups were very good. Fish and Chips entree at $16.00 is dream price for very Nice dinner, Setting is still a "bar". But food is much better than expected

The menu had lots of options and something for everyone . I ordered the iced tiramisu latte and the ricotta hotcakes with Nutella and bananas . Which was amazing , very light and delicious ( I normally don't eat all my food because of large portions .. but I was given 3 ricotta hotcakes and I ate everything!! It was sooo good , very light and filling , highly recommend ! My sister ordered the VEGAN kimichi bowl which was really good as well . My mom ordered the mango soufflé pancakes which i tried and def worth the drive to try . Very light and fluffy cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. !! And presentation was beautiful My husband ordered the Korean fried chicken and waffles ! The waffles came in rose shape which was beautiful 10/10 for the presentation and taste . The grounds, the old millwork setting, ambience and views just feel comfortable while still upscale. I prefer the main dining area to the tavern or covered walkway because you get a glimpse of the kitchen that consistently generates fabulous food with seasonal ingredients and re-imagined classics. Tyler Anderson is back in charge these days and his food is just really good Trusting in him we did the five course menu tour: local oysters with mignonette; cornbread with sesame butter; then one of those classics that has been played with a bit: tapioca pearls prepared to channel clam chowder with bits of bacon and herb! The next jawdropper was frozen shaved foie gras over a strawberry cream compote with pumpkin seed granola. The entrees (you get both) were monkfish schnitzel with a pickle and potato salad and seared strip with potato galette and cioppolina onion. Dessert was a panna cotta with strawberry and angel food crumble All of these were delicious and unique in there on way. Our table relished and discussed every course in an a way that was fun and social. The food made sing and think! The only knock was this: the menu had some redundancies with strawberries and soft textures: the tapioca, foie gras dish, and panna cotta were delish, we could have done without three dishes for people who can't still chew! Service was very pleasant but painfully soft spoken and could benefit from some more fine dining polish. These are minor quibbles. Two weeks later and we are still telling everyone we know what a terrific meal we had... This is a must go restaurant

Pretty area but I was honestly thinking it was going to be more quaint and romantic. It was not. The area is somewhat narrow which makes tables spaced close together and it's really not that private. But the space is nicely decorated and if you sit on the right side (which we did), you're right in front of the waterfall. I would try the dining room next time just to compare. Our server Anthony was professional, kind of and accommodating. We started with cocktails - I had a creative gin drink called Dot Dot Dot. My husband loved his Old Fashioned - he meant to ask what type of bourbon they used because he thought it was very good. With the tasting menu - many of the options apparently change regularly though based off other reviews it appears there may be similar options from time to time. We started with their Johnny Cakes which the waiter said the restaurant is known for. Another reviewer ranked them a 7.5/10 and I couldn't disagree more. They were one of the tastiest bites I've eaten in a while. Crispy, buttery and divine. I thought they were to die for. Served with creamy honey sesame butter which was also delicious. My husband doesn't eat fish so for his amuse bouche he had a little puff served with cheese, that was amazing. For his first course - he had the Ricotta Raviolis. They were as beautiful as they were delicious. My amuse bouche was a tuna tartare that was a perfectly balanced bite. I had the Tapioca custard as my first course. The bacon was a bit too smokey for my taste and overpowered the dish in my opinion. It could have used a bit more liquid but it was a unique few bites. For our mains, my husband's porcini risotto was rich, creamy, and full of earthy flavor. I had the bass with cauliflowerini, golden raisin-caper gremolata, Marcona almonds, and a cauliflower purée--thoughtfully composed and very flavorful. The final savory course was a crispy duck breast with port-poached pear, port reduction, and sweet potato purée, which was beautifully executed. Dessert was a pomegranate pavlova--crisp on the outside with that perfect soft, marshmallowy center. A delightful finish to the meal. Overall, the dishes were not only delicious but also thoughtfully composed and visually striking. It made for a memorable experience, and we're already looking forward to coming back--maybe in a different season to see how the menu evolves.

I had the scallops with risotto which were perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. Hats off to anyone who can cook a risotto well and they do it perfectly. I started with clam chowder that while could've been a little hotter, was thick and delicious. Other people in the party had eggplant Parmesan, which reportedly was terrific, chicken Parmesan that was cooked beautifully with lots of grilled chicken a lovely marinara that was topped with lots of cheese and spiced. The ancient grain risotto was again fantastic, and anyone who can cook a risotto well deserves kudos. The dessert I had the strawberry shortcake that wasn't too sweet and had a beautiful flavor of fresh strawberries throughout with lots of whipped cream. The Keylime pie was tart and delicious. The Brooklyn layered chocolate cake was tremendous layers of cake and frosting. It was just a perfect rendition of a chocolate cake. Last but not least was the coconut cake which rivals my favorite coconut cake in the world from Max A Mia. The Abigail's version was a bit lighter, but equally as delicious with coconut frosting that really hit the spot and is worth the trip back. The bill came to $317 and with a $60 tip for outstanding service and a wonderful Mother's Day meal

After several years, we decided everyone deserves a second chance. Apparently, so does disappointment. Today's visit started with a lengthy wait for drinks, which gave us plenty of time to admire the restaurant's impressive indoor climate control system set to "walk-in freezer." As we slowly lost feeling in our extremities, we waited for our food. And waited. And waited. The table next to us eventually gave up and asked for their food to go because it was taking so long. The menu was bigger than I thought with a wide range of options to choose from tacos to sandwiches to burgers. It took a while for the appetizers and drinks to come out. The service was okay at best. There seemed to be only one server, and it even seemed like the chef was helping out deliver food, so it looked like they were understaffed. The server was very friendly though. For appetizers, two dozen wings ($22.95 each) were ordered. The honey mustard and Kentucky bourbon BBQ were the chosen sauces. The quality of wings were very good. They varied in size and were extremely crispy. They seemed to be double fried. The honey mustard sauce was flavorful. There was a little inconsistency with the amount of sauce, but not a huge deal. The Kentucky bourbon BBQ was an elevated BBQ sauce to me. There was a slight bourbon flavor, but nothing over powerful. For my meal, I had the squealer burger ($15.95). I opted for a side salad, which was terribly overdressed, which was unfortunate. The burger was a half pork, half beef burger with American cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, mustard, and mayo. The meat was cooked to my liking and there was an ideal ratio with the bread and filling. There was something salty about this burger, but I could not pinpoint what it was exactly. Overall, though, a satisfying burger. Will I go back? I would.

They also have some baked goods like a cinnamon roll, alfagor shortbread cookies, and various cakes; they seemed to have a dry consistency which isn't my preference with pastries. The spinach and chicken empanadas ($6 each) were also a little dry and crust to filling ratio was more on the crust side. The two omelettes were ok but one was more well done than the other and you couldn't really customize it much; the home fries were good though. They also have a variety of drinks that were interesting, especially the Peruvian coffee and golden latte. You order at the counter and then your food is brought to you. Empanadas just needed to be heated. The atmosphere isn't bad. There are a few small tables and it was pretty quiet, with a few customers stopping in every once in awhile. The interior is very pretty with a white and pink color scheme, but what really grabs your attention are the tantalizing bakery treats in their showcase - cake slices, Dulche de Leche rolls, and wonderful Peruvian cookie/pastries known as Alfajores. Pam also serves up breakfast with avocado toasts, bagels wraps, egg sandwiches, and heartier fare like waffles, empanadas, steak and eggs, omelets, pancakes and waffles. Add in their deep line of coffees and teas, and you have the makings of a wonderful experience here, like we did. We had a very nice lunch here yesterday and ordered a spinach empanada and a beef empanada for me, and a Lucuma Chocolate Chip Waffle ($11.50). My empanadas ($6 each) were wonderful. They are homemade every single day by Pam herself and were flaky, tender, and really loaded with fillings. The beef empanada was my favorite; the delicately spiced ground beef was delicious. The full-sized circular waffle was a work of art, garnished with strawberries, Nutella, chocolate shavings and bordered by a pillow of golden whipped cream flavored by Lucuma, a sweet yellowish South American fruit. When Pam's daughter Danitza brought out our foods, she gave us a complimentary Nutella Alfajor - a yummy, filled shortbread cookie. Ours was so terrific, we ordered two of them to go -a Classic and a Pistachio. When we arrived home, we saw a third small Alfajor was tossed into the box as another freebie. We really fell in love with Baked by Pam! The delicious pastries, the breakfast and brunch menu, the pretty interior, and the wonderful service -everything was stellar.
