I have been coming to this diner for decades, and whether it was known as the Seacrest Diner or the Old Westbury Diner, one thing has never changed: the pride they take in their food and service. That consistency is rare, and it keeps me coming back. Last week, my husband and I enjoyed a wonderful lunch together. I ordered the Chicken Deluxe, which was absolutely delicious, generous, satisfying, and every bit as good as I remembered. My husband opted for a Caesar salad topped with a burger patty, and it was cooked to perfection. We left full, happy, and already looking forward to our next visit. In passing through this town I saw the restaurant and made a quick decision to eat here. We walked in to hind this diner quite busy with ample seating. This place is big enough for groups to celebrate any occasion it's also big enough to allow for alone time. It's that huge! The decor looks very new and inviting. The booths are so high, you will get private seating. The maître d was very kind and pleasant as she offered choice seating. As I looked over the restaurant I saw that it was very clean and neat. I went to wash my hands before I sat to eat. The bathroom was remarkably clean. The waiter came over to attend to us. Since this was our first time it took a few minutes to decide. He was very patient and kept checking on us before ordering and after ordering. I ordered Veal Saltimbocca. It started with a nice size salad. It was very good, and I am being modest. I did find myself moaning from delectable taste. I really enjoyed it. I had rice to accompany the gravy with my meal but they had other sides e.g., sweet potato, regular potato fur starch, I also had peas and carrots. I was fortunate to have a dining partner who had the pork chops, sweet potato, and broccoli. She enjoyed her meal as well. The our bread in the table as well but I'm not a fan of it so I left it alone. After dinner, our waiter, whom was very efficient, asked if we were ready for desert. We went over and view the selection. We decided on ONE lemon meringue pie. He said you both get a dessert. You should have seen the smile that came in our faces from a pleasant surprise. In celebration of the end of Passion Week, our church members gathered here for breakfast fellowship. They prepared a table of 21 and was able to seat us right away. Despite the table being ginormous, the staff were incredibly nice and had so much energy, they were very attentive and our glasses were always full! I was fortunate enough to order their waffles (Waffle Deluxe) which I loved and loved! We waited about good 20-25 minutes, but the kitchen was amazing, we all enjoyed hot dishes of breakfast at the same time (which is very hard to do for some restaurants) and we very much appreciate the fact that they went the extra mile to make this happen. I have eaten in some great diners...like Chit Chat in West Orange, NJ and the Red Line Diner in Fishkill, NY and a few in Manhattan and Long Island that I thought were quite good. This diner however, was pretty unimpressive. The sandwich was ok but nothing special, the capuccino was rather bitter, but worst of all was the sauteed spinach. There is a large free parking lot, free WiFi, and even when they are very crowded there is always a table and very short, if any wait time. I came here at 11:30 on a Sunday morning and both breakfast and lunch options were available. I had the country omelette with home fries and toast and my boyfriend had the Florentine wrap. I don't know, it wasn't extremely busy for the waiter not to come up and ask us if we needed anything? No one came to collect our plates after we finished. We had to make eye contact with the host and ask for the check since our waiter seemed to forget that we were there. A bit of a wait for service but they were really busy so it was understandable. My husband, in keeping up his healthful low carb eating regimen God bless him, opted for the Chef Salad which was huge and fresh with lots of choice ingredients. I splurged a little with corned beef hash & eggs with a short stack of pancakes as a treat. Pancakes were so good, buttery and soft and a great flavor to them. Would order again. Hash was perfect, finely ground and fried nice and crispy. The home fries needed salt but were otherwise good, thin and crisp. Coffee was good and refilled. Our waitress was awful. Not friendly, made a show of how "busy" she was, screwed up my order and got all defensive and almost belligerent about it. I'm the customer remember? Hopefully this one is the exception. I could tell that the adjoining tables, who had a different waitress, were having a better experience. I was jealous. She greeted them and also saw them off with 'Happy New Year.' The reason for the low score is 3/4 way through the meal the cleaner started mopping the floor in our area with an ammonia based cleaner, ruining the meal with the smell .... Stopped in around 10:30pm last Saturday for a quick bite. The place was pretty empty (no surprise given the time of night) so we were seated right away. Our server came right over to take our order. I opted for the french toast and sausage. Tasted good and did the trick. Big parking lot is clutch, especially considering that the diner is situated at a very busy intersection, and given its size. I've had this diner around the corner from me for more years than I care to remember and I have always enjoyed this place. Face it... It is in Old Westbury on Glen Cove Road and clearly a meeting spot for many groups including those going to the movies, Westbury Music Fair, etc... When the current owners cam in, they gave the place a nice face-lift. It's big, and very bright with all the windows. It's always very clean and neat. Their overall presentation is very good. They have the typical diner menu and everything I have had has always been very good with very generous portions. I've had all the regulars, burgers, sandwiches, open face, and of course... the French Fries! My last visit was a simple American Cheese Omelette..a simple omelette and it was delicious. Even this dish yielded enough to bring some home. The wait staff here has always been terrific to me and my guests. Extremely attentive to our tables and special need food restrictions. Our group of 4 ordered grilled cheese, corn muffin, spaghetti and chicken salad... a diverse order that only a diner like this can fill! The food was all great and we enjoyed every bite. You know how you go to a place and it's great and the next time you go it stinks? That's this joint. We came back at around five in the afternoon so we decided to eat dinner instead of breakfast. Big mistake! The wife ordered a BLT on gluten free bread. It was horrific, perhaps the worst we have ever had. The bread was tiny and they used the end of the loaf. They tried to hide it by turning it backwards but we are not fools. If you offer gluten free alternatives you should at least get decent bread. That's the easiest thing to source. Strangely that wasn't the worst part of the experience.. The tomato la were not ripe and this in the middle of the summer. It's like the weren't even trying. The wife got sick.
