Ordered a BLT and the bacon was over cooked all the pieces were black or dark brown. The Greek salad with chicken had no olives and the chicken was overcooked and dry. We met family halfway for lunch. There were six of us. We were seated promptly and drink orders were taken. They have a HUGE menu and there is something for everybody! Our drinks arrived quickly and our orders were taken. The waiter appeared with a bowl of Coleslaw and a plate of dill pickle wedges and 6 small plates! Coleslaw was fresh and delicious. It tasted homemade! Our orders all arrived at once, just as everyone had ordered. The portions were L A R G E and everything was hot! Our waiter came around with coffee refills and offers of drink refreshments. We saved room for dessert! It may be small in terms of interior space, but makes up for it in sheer deliciousness. The menu features classic diner comfort food, and the portions were generous. The decor is simple and retrospective of the early 80's, but the charm of the place lies in its authenticity and taste. I had the Lumberjack breakfast with Challah French toast, sausage and eggs. My wife ordered the California omlette with home fries and toast. The items were cooked perfectly, the omlette and French toast was moist and flavorful. The coffee was pretty darn good as well. The service was prompt, and our overall experience was a delightful one. We look forward to coming back again soon. NOTE: Small parking lot. Been here a few times for omelettes before I knew about the Ikea breakfast specials. Omelettes were light and fluffy. Hash was overpowered by onion. Always quick and friendly service. We slide into our booth and go through the substantial menu, but we know we're here for the breakfast. I wanted the Deuces Wild, which is 2 of everything: 2x eggs + 2x bacon + 2x sausage + 2x ham + 2x pancakes + home fries = 1 Happy me. I could have used 2x toast to sop up the runny yolks of my sunnyside up eggs, but that will be for next time. My wife had the French Toast Deluxe with 4x BiG slices of egg dipped Challah bread toasted on the flat top grill, along with 2x sausage + 2x eggs over EZ. And amazingly, it all disappeared. About half of the size of the Broadway Diner but 10x better! The ambiance and food were wonderful. Everything was brighter, cleaner, and fresher. Went on a Saturday afternoon for brunch with my bestie. It was getting busy around that time too. The booths were comfy. Plenty of bar seats if that's your fancy! The restroom was nice and clean. She ordered the Roast Beef au Jus Sandwich. I had the Eggs Benedict with Feta and Spinach. And we shared a third plate of the Cream Filled French Toast with Nutella and Banana. The feta and spinach were too salty. Would have been better plain/without. My hash browns were served cold....as if they had been ready made a while ago and served without warming up, at the very least. I didn't mind it that day, but everyone loves fresh out of the skillet/grill/pan/etc. hash browns! I removed a star for that and slow water refills. Next time I'll just get the French Toast. This is the highest rated diner near me so I had to try it! I was torn between 3 and 4 stars. The good - coffee was strong but not too bitter; the pancakes were fluffy; eggs were cooked exactly how I asked; Canadian bacon/ham was a good size. The bad - sausages were those skinny little ones with very little flavor, the bacon was not crispy and also skinny and little; and even though the home fries had peppers and I think onions (could be wrong) they were not very flavorful. My friend had egg white omelette and enjoyed them although I had a bite, and I thought they were lacking some seasoning. The place is not big but we were seated right away but it was a Wednesday. I just visited this diner last night with my boyfriend because we were craving breakfast for dinner. We both ordered omelettes which came with home fries and your choice of toast. He got the Rancheros Omelette which came with peppers, onions, jalapeños and sausage. I ordered the Cobb Omelette which came with diced avocado, bacon pieces, and cheddar cheese. After being sick for the passed few days, I had to get out. Nothing better than a Long Island diner. My parents dine here somewhat frequently, so this is where I ended up with them. The host greeted us upon arrival and we were seated. As with most diners, the menu is pretty simple. Breakfast, munchies, sandwiches, burgers, some entrees and of course, dessert. I went with a grilled chicken sandwich with bacon, lettuce and tomato, minus the bread. The chicken was nicely seasoned and had good flavor. Bacon could have been a bit more crispy, but it was still good. My stepdad ordered a turkey burger deluxe. While he enjoyed it he commented that it wasn't as flavorful as it usually is. My mother got a cheeseburger and said the same thing...that it wasn't as flavorful as usual. I'm very big on consistency....I hope my grilled chicken is just as good when I return next time. My wife and I ate here today following reviews indicating it may be the best diner on Long Island. I don't think it met those lofty ideals. I started with some coffee that was so thin it tasted almost like hot water. And the milk and sugar they offered didn't help much. I had one of my favorites, a bagel with lox, cream cheese, and vegetables (lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers). It was OK; the vegetables were on point, and the lox was huge. The bagel was more of a problem, being toasted but not well, and left kind of soggy. My wife had scrambled eggs, sausage, and toast. The eggs were a bit overcooked, but we appreciate that they used real eggs. The sausage was pretty standard, nothing wrong with it but it didn't blow us away. The toast was great, though. It wasn't overcooked or undercooked, crispy on the outside and soft inside. The standout was the pumpkin pancakes. They were amazing. My wife ordered them but we both sampled them. She was impressed and I was blown away. Phenomenal! And it makes us think their regular pancakes are probably just as good but we didn't try. She had espresso that didn't taste like espresso. The service was good; not too slow but not intrusive either. He was fast, efficient, and got us exactly what we ordered. I think the real problem is that the diner became a victim of its own success. I think the Yelp ratings may have overset my expectations. The food wasn't bad, overall (although the bagel could have used some more TLC and the coffee situation was really problematic!), but we were expecting to be blown away when it was just "okay." read more

Believe the hype! My inlaws said this place was good. I waited too long, and now I lament the meals I ate at other diners. Alright, my wife got eggs and pancakes. She let me try each. These pancakes are SO soft and sweet. She got strawberries and it's like they just picked them off the bush. Good lord that was good! She also got eggs. Fluffy and perfect, holy hell. I got a grilled cheese sandwich. They made one with pepper jack, which you NEVER get, and damn it was delicious. Hey did you see the monstrous plate of onion rings that I got? We drove through the night from NC and met a friend here for breakfast. I haven't been to a New York diner in way too long and had a bit of sticker shock when I saw the prices. I'm assuming most places in NY had to raise prices due to being shut down so I get it. I ordered a bagel with lox and cream cheese. Was just like I remembered. Yummy. We struck up a quick conversation with the owner, who is very very nice. After only waiting for about five minutes for a table, we were seated. In a nutshell, the food was excellent. What a superb diner!! I travelled to NY from the UK with my Grandson to see ZZ Top. Ethan wanted to visit a traditional American diner so we gave Hicksville Diner a try as it was near our hotel - as soon as we walked in I knew it was a good decision.
