    California omlette

This little small diner in Hicksville provided a cozy atmosphere with a friendly staff. Don't let the size of this place fool you. It may be small in terms of interior space, but makes up for it in sheer deliciousness. The menu features classic diner comfort food, and the portions were generous. The decor is simple and retrospective of the early 80's, but the charm of the place lies in its authenticity and taste. I had the Lumberjack breakfast with Challah French toast, sausage and eggs. My wife ordered the California omlette with home fries and toast. The items were cooked perfectly, the omlette and French toast was moist and flavorful. The coffee was pretty darn good as well. The service was prompt, and our overall experience was a delightful one. We look forward to coming back again soon. NOTE: Small parking lot. There is a dead-end street behind the diner with some spaces. They also have 3 bathrooms; one is dedicated for handicapped people with wheelchairs.

Old time diner. Comfortable seating, friendly, timely service and delicious food. Clean space, clean, small bathrooms. Plenty of parking and wheelchair accessible. But Fox News and political talk all day long. I don't care who you believe; just don't have the box preaching to me while I pay to eat. I hear enough of it on the outside.

Though a little out of the way, but still at the corner of main thoroughfares Old Country Rd and South Oyster Bay Rd, the Hicksville Diner is a beacon among all the other Long Island Diners and serving up really good diner eats. If you want a BIG American breakfast, you can't do much better. The layout is typical with shiny chrome exterior with a wraparound parking lot. You walk in to find counter seating and booth tables. We slide into our booth and go through the substantial menu, but we know we're here for the breakfast. I wanted the Deuces Wild, which is 2 of everything: 2x eggs + 2x bacon + 2x sausage + 2x ham + 2x pancakes + home fries = 1 Happy me. I could have used 2x toast to sop up the runny yolks of my sunnyside up eggs, but that will be for next time. My wife had the French Toast Deluxe with 4x BiG slices of egg dipped Challah bread toasted on the flat top grill, along with 2x sausage + 2x eggs over EZ. And amazingly, it all disappeared. Mmmm...BurP Now that I'm writing this review, I'm getting a hankering for a bacon cheeseburger...

Been here a few times for omelettes before I knew about the Ikea breakfast specials. Omelettes were light and fluffy. Hash was overpowered by onion. Always quick and friendly service. Not as art deco glam as other diners but still cozy. I haven't been there when their small parking lot was filled though.

About half of the size of the Broadway Diner but 10x better! The ambiance and food were wonderful. Everything was brighter, cleaner, and fresher. Went on a Saturday afternoon for brunch with my bestie. It was getting busy around that time too. The booths were comfy. Plenty of bar seats if that's your fancy! The restroom was nice and clean. She ordered the Roast Beef au Jus Sandwich. I had the Eggs Benedict with Feta and Spinach. And we shared a third plate of the Cream Filled French Toast with Nutella and Banana. The feta and spinach were too salty. Would have been better plain/without. My hash browns were served cold....as if they had been ready made a while ago and served without warming up, at the very least. I didn't mind it that day, but everyone loves fresh out of the skillet/grill/pan/etc. hash browns! I removed a star for that and slow water refills. Next time I'll just get the French Toast. That really hit the spot. My bestie loved her dish. Said I should get it next time. We'll see. Happy eats!

This is the highest rated diner near me so I had to try it! I was torn between 3 and 4 stars. The good - coffee was strong but not too bitter; the pancakes were fluffy; eggs were cooked exactly how I asked; Canadian bacon/ham was a good size. The bad - sausages were those skinny little ones with very little flavor, the bacon was not crispy and also skinny and little; and even though the home fries had peppers and I think onions (could be wrong) they were not very flavorful. My friend had egg white omelette and enjoyed them although I had a bite, and I thought they were lacking some seasoning. The place is not big but we were seated right away but it was a Wednesday. May be an issue on weekend. Service was very good with coffee refills aplenty, so I rounded up to 4 stars. Just do t come here expecting to be blown away...

    The Rancheros Omelette

I just visited this diner last night with my boyfriend because we were craving breakfast for dinner. We both ordered omelettes which came with home fries and your choice of toast. He got the Rancheros Omelette which came with peppers, onions, jalapeños and sausage. I ordered the Cobb Omelette which came with diced avocado, bacon pieces, and cheddar cheese. The omelettes were very good and flavorful but my only complaint was that the omelette itself was a little greasy. Otherwise everything else was very good!

We love this diner! Small, cute, underrated, and definitely one of the better ones on the island. Great huge omelets and sausage links, and the friendliest service.

After being sick for the passed few days, I had to get out. Nothing better than a Long Island diner. My parents dine here somewhat frequently, so this is where I ended up with them. The host greeted us upon arrival and we were seated. As with most diners, the menu is pretty simple. Breakfast, munchies, sandwiches, burgers, some entrees and of course, dessert. I went with a grilled chicken sandwich with bacon, lettuce and tomato, minus the bread. The chicken was nicely seasoned and had good flavor. Bacon could have been a bit more crispy, but it was still good. My stepdad ordered a turkey burger deluxe. While he enjoyed it he commented that it wasn't as flavorful as it usually is. My mother got a cheeseburger and said the same thing...that it wasn't as flavorful as usual. I'm very big on consistency....I hope my grilled chicken is just as good when I return next time. Based on my parent's comments, I'm not quite sure it will be. Service was decent. Our waitress was friendly and efficient.

First off, the inside is beautiful. They did an incredible job with the renovation, and I loved all the little details, especially the custom 300-pound manhole covers they're using as tables around the bar. Even better, everyone working there was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Now the food! We started with the Baked Clams, and these were legit. You could've served them to me at an Italian restaurant and I wouldn't have questioned it. The Nonna's Ribs were probably one of the biggest surprises--slow-braised pork ribs with cherry peppers and finished on the grill. Fall-off-the-bone tender, tons of flavor, and I loved that they weren't just drenched in BBQ sauce. The Firebird crispy chicken sandwich was fantastic, and the Steakhouse Sandwich with sliced NY strip, mushrooms, provolone, crispy onions and horseradish aioli was also very well done. But that Manhole Burger deserves some special attention. Beef, American cheese, caramelized onions and dijonnaise on brioche. Simple combination, executed REALLY well. This was an outstanding burger and absolutely something I'd order again. And I can't leave out the fries. They're hand-cut in house, super thin and crispy, and exactly how I like my fries. Think that addictive thin fast-food style, except made fresh and much better quality. If you remember this location from its previous ownership, give it another shot. This is a completely different experience. Beautiful restaurant, genuinely friendly staff and food that exceeded my expectations. Foundry Tavern is a Hicksville hidden gem that deserves more attention--especially for lunch. I'll definitely be back.

Heard the guy next to us order a French dip and the waiter said great, we have only 2 left. So when he came to us I ordered and he said great timing it's the last one. Took 45 minutes to get our strawberry salad which was delicious. Another 3o minutes go by (and the guy next to me who ordered the other French dip had already finished and left) So the strawberry waiter, after more than 1.15hr walk over and says "hey, we ran out of the French so I ordered you the steak sandwich. Huh? 1 hour and fifteen min later you ran out and the other guy already ate and left? I said great, but I'm not paying for it. 10 min later the owner came out. He could not have been a friendlier, responsible and all around nice person. It wasn't that he not only covered my meal but the table but it was the way he handled it. Owning a restaurant is not easy and problems happen. Food - 8/10 Prices 9/10 Place 8/10 I would not only recommend this place but they have absolutely earned my business. I obviously can't give a 5 because of the incident but I will change this to a 5 when I go back and get the service I have a feeling I'll receive. This owner deserves the business because he knows how to run a business. Money follows the people not the other way around.

Arriving, the space is bright and airy. At the table there was a lovely potted plant with our reservation name which we were able to take home with us. Such a nice touch. During the winter months I'd do takeout and every time the food was great at home. I love their soba noodles salad when it's in season, however they switched to a different noodle and it doesn't have the same oomph! The owner recognizes me from all the times I've been there for dining in, takeout, called, and parties and events. I went there again last night with some family and overall it was very nice. One star deduction for the rudeness we received from the manager. She came over after we ordered a second bottle of the Freemark Abbey (wine) (as they were completely out and the first bottle we ordered was their last bottle in stock) and gave us two "similar" options that were around the same price of the first bottle. Price doesn't equal to taste. We first asked if it's okay to try it even if we may not like it, and she kindly proceeded to open the bottle. We said "no thanks," to the Keever (it tasted disgusting in comparison), which she and her colleague highly suggested, and we asked nicely if the other bottle was an option to try, but she swiftly walked back inside with both bottles and brought out an open bottle of the Katherine Cab. We liked that better. She stormed away after she said something fast and nasty like "It's either the bottle or you have to pay per glass." We didn't quite catch it but the ultimatum put a bad taste in everyone's mouths. We wound up ordering the Katherine Cab. When we got the bill the server charged us fairly. We tipped well because it's not the server's fault she was upset about opening the wine that she pushed. Happy eats!
