Went to the Empire Diner today for lunch while I am at a closing, what a great place! First off: the place is immaculately clean! The floors, walls, doors, windows and (my pet peeve) salt and pepper shakers were ALL CLEAN! I enjoyed a pizza burger which was delicious and the staff was very friendly and accommodating! Went for brunch with hubs. The pancake was delicious, my husband ordered eggs Benedict - he loved his too. One pretty gross moment was, when I was eating a guy that works there, he was right by the entrance greeting people, he grabbed a napping and blow his nose so loudly. It was super gross trying to eat while someone is making snot sounds across from you, the sound and the visual grossed me enough to stop eating. read more

Service was great! Typical diner setup. Funny how all diners I've experienced have similar interior concepts. Nothing eye catching here. My Corned Beef Hash was not appealing at all. Couldn't pinpoint what it was lacking. Left the majority of my order on my plate. As the area has a plethora of choices. We vowed to try some place else. Had breakfast here this morning, as I have written in some previous reviews this diner is hanging by a thread. I give them credit, that are truly trying very hard to survive. I had a simple breakfast 2 over with bacon and FF, it was good..it all came as ordered, except the toast bread was stale and I had apple juice instead of coffee. We were seated in the rear and it was very warm seems like ac was not working properly. All of the servers are awesome, and have been working here for a long time. Just as a heads up, prices here have gone up significantly. They have some serious competition, the place could use some remodeling, don't see that happening. Anyway good luck empire... read more

Ronnie D: The customer is always wrong. Good charcol burgers. A seltzer (they have no lime) or any soda is $3.75. I mentioned the price to the waiter who was very nice and understood. However the cashier had a "the customer is always wrong" attitude. When I pointed that out she said I was wrong about that too. Her response to the price was, "All diners charge that." I said that the Grand Stage Diner on Hempstead Turnpike was $1.75. She responded, "You're the only one who's ever complained. BTW, there's a 3.25% charge when you use a credit card. Before I spoke with her I had decided that I just would'nt order a drink anymore. After I experienced her charm, I decided to never go there again. read more

Just came from the Empire diner had some of the best burgers we've had in a long time. Old school, french fries onion rings, lettuce, and tomato and some great meat. Recently were there for breakfast as well and it was good then too the hours are limited and so is the menu with the food we've gotten has been consistently good and the prices are fair. read more

Absolutely stunning diner, the decor was both nostalgic and classy, down to the individual jukeboxes at the tables. (Wonderful sight, incredibly awesome to be able to flip through the selection! They're incredibly well maintained, despite their age.) As for food, we had ordered the super breakfast, and I personally had a two egg meal, over easy, with home fries and bacon. The yolk ran perfectly, and they took great care not to burn the edges, something I pay close attention to when judging a food establishment for the first time. My date said his meal was amazing as well, and all we took home was toast. (A rarity for me, as I'm a light eater!) The staff are warm and welcoming, and it's clear they care about their regulars. I instantly felt relaxed and excited to eat since reception, and the ambiance was soothing, hearing the regulars chat among themselves. The staff were also more than understanding about me wishing to finish a coffee I had picked up earlier, and I fully intend to return to try theirs as a thank you. You don't find that hospitality often! All in all, this was a wonderful experience, both for a date, and I imagine for a family meal as well. My brunch was amazing today thanks to Arlene, so if she serves your table, you're bound to leave full and happy. I'm dying to bring my parents here for a meal, so I'll let that excitement speak for itself. It's an experience I recommend everyone try at least once. read more

Like other reviewers, wifey and I wound up at empire diner during our quest to fill the void left when diner luxe closed up shop. Unfortunately, our experience wasn't on par with other reviewers. Literally the only patrons in the place, we were treated to a dirty table, greasy plates, and a lovey assortment of browning lettuce on my Caesar salad. Sent it back and as wifey finished her meal I got to listen to the owner grumbling in his chair about how it wasn't brown it was just from the chicken...nope, it was brown. I got the Spinach pie and Greek salad it was really good not too heavy and my husband got a burger with fries, I didn't get a picture of the burger but I got one of the pickle with coleslaw that comes with the burger. How perfect does that pickle look? It was delicious (He doesn't do pickles so I couldn't let it go to waste). He said his burger and fries were good. Bland. Bland. Bland. I was in the area on an early Saturday morning and was in need of breakfast. It was either this location or another diner that was within five mins of each other. Given that this location had better reviews, we decided to stop in here. Should have saved the money and went to Dunkin Donuts. Upon entrance, the staff was friendly and we were seated immediately. The waitress wasn't the friendliest, if we're being honest but it happens. So while it was a little off putting, it wasn't unbearable. I ordered scrambled eggs, corn beef, potatoes and toast. I asked that the corn beef have a crunchy sear and for it to be crispy. What do I get? Mush. Wet. Disgusting. As for the taste no salt. No black pepper. No seasoning. Just bland. Thank God for ketchup. The buttered toast was the best thing on the plate. I took most of the food home and fixed it on the stove. read more

I've been let down by a lot of diners lately but this one was pretty good ! Must have said hello to 4 people on their staff before even sitting down because everyone kept welcoming us. Very friendly. Diner was quiet which was nice. Ordered pancakes and also tried their home fries, corned beef hash and eggs. All were good. Pancakes were a tad smaller than most diner pancakes, but were still yummy. Two things that were "eh". Nothing was really that cheap. And their entree prices were more than some Italian restaurants. $20 for penne alla vodka with chicken ? That's crazy. Also I ordered a chocolate milk and it came to the table with chocolate syrup on the bottom of a glass of milk. Granted I KNOW this is what diners use for chocolate milk, but it was just weird that I had to mix it. It's been there since i was knee high to a puppy. The temptation is to say it has not changed much, but that would be inaccurate. Like all similar places the menu has been modernized with wraps and tortilla based entrees. The staff is super nice and friendly. Just had breakfast at this diner. We ordered an omelet. I had a bagel instead of toast and the menu said an additional 60 cents. I asked for a slice of cheese on the bagel. The waitress charged $6.75 additional stating it was a grilled cheese sandwich! In addition, my husband ordered home fries. They were dry and tasted like cardboard. If that wasn't enough, the cashier had a terrible attitude and instead of adjusting the bill, was just nasty. I would suggest people avoid this place. read more

Came here to avoid devouring 5 or 6 hot dogs at Ikea, bad call. Service is good, place is clean. Positives over... It was New Years Day, but if your happy to send out bad food, be happy to charge half price. ( I had quiet word at the end of the meal, not asking for a discount. Don't bother with any other diners in the area, this one is the best! Breakfast is consistently good. They'll make anything to order, just ask. I've only had burgers and chicken souvlaki for lunch / dinner. Both are very tasty but the sovlaki is my favorite. Highly recommended! Great service, friendly staff too. read more

After helping my brother out with apartment hunting, he felt he wanted to treat me to a meal. We ended up crossing a busy Jerusalem Ave. to come to Empire Diner. It's a small diner and not special in that it's just basic in presentation. When we walked in we were seated right away because it was empty. Looking around I noticed the floor was not swept, the table they sat us at was dirty and the table juke box looked like it was never cleaned. Also to add the pitcher they served the water in was dirty as well. I thought to myself, how can a place like this survive? Well the answer is the food. The chop steak that I got was delicious! It was cooked just right. It was thick meaty and juicy all topped with onions and cheese. The waitress recommend zucchini which I accepted and she was spot on! This zucchini was excellent. I was disappointed in the chicken noodle soup that had no chicken in it. But loved the Greek salad topped with plenty of feta. My brother got the quesadilla and loved it. The price was a surprise, they were on the expensive side and the side portions were small. But the staff was really nice and service was decent. The food is enough to get me to go back, but not a first choice. Plus if I do go back its with my own bottle of water.......and chicken. read more

I have all sorts of food rules: No sushi on Mondays (fish is leftover from the weekend) Don't order steak at an Italian restaurant (low turnover, so it's probably going to be bad) Most specials are made from stuff that's going to go bad very soon, that's why it's a special (don't order it) And lastly, no eggs bene after 10 am.( Hollaindaise takes a while to make and to keep it from separating you have to store it at a temp that makes bacteria mutliply fast.) I totally broke this last rule this morning. I was craving eggs bene, but it was already 1pm. I went to empire and ordered some. Eggs were cooked perfectly, but the hollandaise was a little on the runny side and not lemony enough. Cured my craving though! read more

We tried to get into Broadway Diner but at 6 pm Sunday couldnt find a parking spot. Plan B called for us to try the Empire Diner up the road a bit. No prob getting in there so 4 of us plodded in hoping for a good meal. I used to love this place years ago but its gotten old both in its existence and long in the tooth with no atmosphere. There is no Mojo or lively banter going on as in Bdwy Diner. The food was good, but nothing special. This will continue to be our plan B going forward. read more
