Worst service and delivery. 2.5 hrs for a bagel and it was cold when it was delivered. Food wasn't good.

The bagels are wonderful. Prices reasonable. Deli service not dependable. I've been coming to OBBS once a week for a year (weekdays, weekends, different times of day). On my last 2 visits they have messed up my order. They forgot my avocado, though when I went back the guy was happy to fix it for me. Today, I ordered peanut butter and jelly on a multi-grain and got to work before seeing they gave me butter and jelly on plain (couldn't be fixed making me grumpy all morning). May seem trivial to get upset, but we pay for people to make us food so we can have exactly what we want. While I'm at it, I would like to include that one of the counter guys called me and my dad "pendejos" under his breath while we decided what to order. Management: please feel free to address this with me. I welcome a civilized and reasonable solution. Without attention given to these issues - which seem to be the biggest and most common complaints customers have - I will have to take my business elsewhere. P.S. This review is particularly for the cleanliness of the coffee corner yesterday (May 4th) late afternoon. I don't live in that neighborhood but needed a coffee fix and the shop name caught my attention. So I walked in and saw that it was self-served and setup in a good-sized corner. But the most surprisingly is that the corner was very clean and well-organized. I don't see this often in any other coffee shops and it just made me happy! (strange? Lol). I understand that sometimes the pay for a job like this is next to nothing which is unmotivated for employees to work hard. But seeing how much this shop worker (I should have got her name) cared to do her job made me want to write my first Yelp review in 10 years! I will definitely go back. I live close by to the Brooklyn Bagel Shoppe and it's been our go-to place on the weekends. The past few times my roommates and I have gone, they have managed to mess up our order every single time. Never anything major, not worth a complaint. However, the slow and rude service put us over the top today. The cashier was not only inattentive, but refused to ring people up whose orders were complete and ready to go. She had to repeatedly ask the customers in front of us what they ordered, would go back to get the order, and come back with nothing. When we asked if she could ring us up, she told us that we were cutting the line and made us wait as our food got cold. We waited 18 minutes for two toasted bagels with cream cheese. It's unfortunate for the Brooklyn Bagel Shoppe that their service is generally very slow and not friendly. I enjoy their food, however I will not be going back anymore. Oh man, this place. The quality of the food will keep you coming back for more, but the terrible service will make you question yourself every time you step in the door. Do NOT make the mistake of ordering from here. It is a waste of time and money. Literally 100% of the time they get our delivery orders wrong. And no, sadly I am not exaggerating. I had serious reservations about this place based on the superfluous e's in the name, but they've got the goods. The bagels are that great, chewy New York density, with hearty toppings (see the everything and multigrain). Just went there for their anniversary special of $1 for a bagel w/ plain cream cheese and coffee, still riding high from that great deal. I haven't been there when it's been swamped, but weekday mornings don't seem to be too bad. There's something off about these bagels. They were fresh and hot but amazingly dry and dense. No flavor. I've tried them with cold cuts, cream cheese, butter... nope... didn't fix it. Something not quite right about this bagel shop. My husband seems to like it okay, but he's not picky. The bagels here are only "okay", not really great, and they have a lot of stuff in the store, but all of it seems past it's sell by date ...packages all seem dusty. It's weird to see people wait on long lines on a weekend morning as if it was a special bagel shop. It is in a good location and is busy - but the bagels are definitely nothing to write home about. This is my go-to bagel shop in the neighborhood. My hubby and I usually go here on weekends to get toasted bagels and sit outside. He gets his usual toasted everything bagel with plain cream cheese, while I stay "healthy" getting the whole wheat bagel with flavored cream cheese such as spinach & artichoke, or sundried tomato - both very good! It does get crowded at peak times, so you may have to wait for your bagel, and then you have to be on the lookout for seats. There is outdoor seating, so we usually try to grab it as soon as we can. Sure there are better diners and brunch places, but there aren't many good ones around here and all have 30-45 minute waits. Needless to say, their bagels are yummy. The bagels themselves are absolutely delicious. As for the bagel sandwiches, I've had better. We've had the bagel with lox, cream cheese, tomato, onion, and capers, and came to the conclusion that we can construct them at home with much better quality. They kind of go crazy with the amount of cream cheese they use, and they don't add much in the way of the other toppings. The whitefish bagel was disappointing, they use too much sweet (blech) mayonnaise mixed in with the white fish. We have also had the egg sandwich with cheese and bacon on a roll, and have concluded that, standard as they are, they are better than the bagel sandwiches. I don't know how so many other people have such bad experiences here. I've been here several times, and while things sometimes get bogged down, I think that the service here moves faster than any of the other neighborhood bagel shops. The employees have always been exceptionally friendly to me, and my order has never been messed up. But wait. I'm spending so much time explaining the good service I've received, I haven't mentioned the food at all. It's the best. The best bagel breakfast sandwich that I've had in the neighborhood. I've tried at least a half dozen bagel places before finding Olde Brooklyn, and the quality of their food is head and shoulders above the rest. The breakfast sandwich ingredients are always fresh and delicious, and the bagels themselves are perfect. It was so charred that the few recognizable seeds looked scorched. Seriously, many years ago I was there every morning for coffee and a bagel on the way to work. My mother was visiting our new pad in Prospect Heights and we decided to get some bagel sandwiches to take to our apartment. The line was long and they take orders really quickly. Too quickly, as we realized when we got back to my apartment that they didn't put the LOX on my mom's LOX and Cream Cheese sandwich. I agree with a lot of the other reviewers: the bagels are SOOOO good!!! But the SERVICE. IS. TERRIBLE. How is it possible that they haven't figured out how to run a bagel store? I don't understand. The "Line" at the store seems to work like this: guy in front of you orders 5 bagel sandwiches that all need to be toasted and you order one untoasted cream cheese plain bagel, you will somehow WAIT for guy in front's order to be ready before they even start to make yours. The guys in the back make a great bagel sandwich, but they're all laughing and joking and taking it easy and don't seem to get it that multiple orders can be taken at the same time and someone who ordered later can have an order that is ready before someone who ordered earlier. The problem isn't ONLY the line though, because I've been in this place with NO ONE in front of me and it still takes 20 minutes for 3 bagels to get shmeared. Super fresh bagels- cooked through but still chewy. I tried the za'atar bagel, which I'd never had before (has lots of spices on it), and put egg whites, cheese, and tomato on it. The problem with egg sandwiches sometimes is that they're "drippy" but this sandwich was perfectly cooked and not sloppy at all. There were dozens of cream cheese options that all looked delicious. Will absolutely try the tofu veggie cream cheese next time. There are so many options but just as a courtesy, please have your order planned before you get up to the counter, don't make everyone behind you wait. It's also a grocery shop! I am of the strong opinion that these bagels are at best not very good and have actually gotten much worse lately. Way to dense and lacks of flavor. They are closer to Montreal style than NYC. I took to ordering them toasted and they were decent like that for a while. But lately, not even toasting will save them. I mean who ever throws away a toasted everything with butter after a few bites cause it tastes and feels like cardboard? Kudos for everything else at the place, it is a tough business model and I think they do a pretty good job of it. It's always packed - and when I was in there today I overheard someone say "wow this place is cool"...why? Like some of the other reviewers the service i've experienced is insanely bad. They're nice but my orders have always been wrong. On one visit I asked for a whole wheat bagel toasted with scallion cream cheese. I even confirmed with him while he was preparing it - 'scallion right?' ..'Yes, scallion'. What I got - whole wheat, un toasted with vegetable spread. On another visit I ordered a whole wheat bagel toasted with scallion cream cheese, red onions and tomatoes. What I got: Whole wheat bagel un-toasted, plain cream cheese, tomatoes and white onions. Normally I wouldn't really care about something like that - but the fact that this place seems to be so popular and they've never gotten an order right is pretty frustrating. read more
