We ate here on an overnight trip to bike the Ashuwillticook bike trail from Lanesborough to Adams. On the Monday night they were pretty much the only game in town, and they were hammered. Took a while to get drinks and etc. but the temperature had plummeted and people were coming in from the deck (which must be great on a sunny day or warm night) and asking to be seated inside so we cut them some slack for that. I started off with the soup of the day which was like a bean and ham soup, startlingly good! They serve it in a little iron crock, not huge but filling, and it stays nice and hot. And if you can get anything with their beef in it, get it! Fabulously tender and flavorful. I got the Austrian sandwich, which is juicy beef on an open faced sandwich of country bread with sauteed onions, cheddar cheese and Dijon mayo. Really good, but the Forge Style roast beef sandwich looked even better when it went by our table. I asked the waitress for some au jus which scratched that itch just fine. Partner had the fish and chips, equally fine. They have a ginormous beer list. Also, Abita root beer from the tap! For my cocktail the waitress suggested a Honey Stinger, which is Jim Beam bourbon with honey and lemon. Nice and refreshing, not the same-old same-old, and lasted me through the meal. Humongous beer selection! Incredible unique chicken wings. I had their original which is more like a spicy soy sauce. The wings were a good size- not huge on sterioids like chain resturant style and they were cooked perfectly w good crunch. Service is ok- just outta high school servers makes for inexperience unless you sit @ the bar- now were talking seasoned, quick & friendly enough. This is a definate if your local or just passing through for a good craft beer & solid bar comfort food & off the hook chicken wings. Not the same as Iou send to be. Food was less than fair. Very disappointing to say the least. We have noticed the steady decline over time.

I had been here a few times over the last decade or so, most recently January of 2010 twice. I loved it then, and was looking forward to coming back a few weeks ago when my family and I visited the area. I was sadly disappointed. Lets start with the bad, so that you don't think I am just bashing the place. Believe me, when I told my brother what happened and how disappointed I was in the food this time he was shocked as he too, loved it when we were there a few times. Let me begin. French onion soup was just blah, not bad, not good, just blah...and literally blah as in I had to add salt to my french onion soup...not a good sign. The wife got a portabella sandwich, which was entirely taken over by green pepper and onion, and so soggy the bottom bread was repulsive. They also ruined the amazing flavor of the portabella with these cheap additions. Two thumbs down on this one...although when we took the sandwich apart and ate just the cheesy top piece of bread and mushroom it was ok, but still had the onion and green pepper taste...ugh. Now the pizza, it had green fuzzy mold circles cooked into the crust. They assured me that was impossible, but I know better. I took a picture to prove it if you are interested. Oh yeah, by the way I ate half of it before i noticed.....uugggh. Ok now the wings, they were very, very good...and the beer selection is also amazing so if you want my opinion here...go for the wings and beer and you will be happy. Anything else, enter at your own risk! So, for wings and beer, they get three stars. Food and overall ambiance, they get two. I still want a half rating system here at Yelp and hopefully someday will get it but for now, I can't give them a three star rating as if I saw three stars here and went in for a regular meal i'd have to question the person writing the review. read more

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! My wife and I LOVE to go to Olde Forge! The staff is amazing, we always sit at the bar because we are part of their beer club (super fun concept, ask about it!). We have never had a bad experience. The food is absolutely amazing and is made to order, always very fresh! They have special events around holidays and random days all the time! We ordered the Butternut squash quesadilla appetizer. The thing is HUGE. But the price matches the size. It was actually pretty tasty. I didn;t really like the lime sauce that it comes with. The wings are not huge but not those tiny ones you get at chain restaurants. We got the Buff sauce which tastes like a curry. We also got 1/2 of them with hot, which needs a little more zing. We ordered the French onion soup as a take out. Big mistake. They separate the soup and the bread and cheese. It was cold by the time we brought it back and did not taste so great after reheating it. Lastly we got the tenders with the Buffalo sauce. These were nicely flavored and come with some good fries. The price is little high. read more

It was hard to know where to enter.The food was very nice and fine. I ordered two appetizers, the kielbasa bites and the potato skins. They had sadly ran out of potato skins but had provided the lovely substitute of waffle fries with cheese and bacon. I had ordered the big dog, which was good but was way bigger then I had expected. It was 2 inches thick and over a foot long. Nevertheless, it was delicious. When offered the prospect of infinite refills, I was simply delighted. I ordered another sprite after ordering my first, but I didn't quite finish either. The staff was nice and the decor was good but it could do with a few mounted jackalopes. Nice place. read more

Went here solely for the wings. Quality of wing was high, they were meaty and well sized. Cookery was also very solid. Perfectly crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Sauce was also very very good. Delicious even. Not very spicy but a great mix of sweet and peppery. Also ordered the French onion soup which was fantastic. Classic pillowy trampoline of gruyere atop a hearty beefy onion stock. The menu warns that food is cooked to order so if you are in a rush this may not be for you. But if you are patient that reward is a delicious experience. read more

Impressive Beer selection on tap & in bottles/can (see my photos). I had 2 different kind of wheat beer and it was very satisfying watching Sunday NFL playoff. I was there for a Sunday afternoon game and got their 15 mins before kick off and the bar quickly filled up with mix of locals and tourists. The service was friendly at the bar. I ordered the bone in steak and it was tender and juicy. It was around $23 usd on the menu and came with fries and some veggie. It was not a huge steak so for $23 it as an okay deal. I saw many ordered the french onion soup and the wings. If I am ever at the area again that would be on my list to try. Overall, I had a good lunch experience here. read more

Our favorite place to go at least once a year...likely 2 or 3. Worth the one hour drive just to purchase their various wings sauces. Now for the wings, the Buff Orpington are to die for and close second is the tangy Deans Original. My boyfriend grew up in the area and has been talking about this place for 2 years and we hadn't gotten the chance to go until today. It was wonderful! Super cozy, fantastic food and great people. I have a gluten allergy and our waitress/bartender answered all of my questions and was knowledgeable about the menu so I felt comfortable ordering. We got the neptune bread bowl and the portobello sandwich, both without cheese. All in all, the service and food was fair. Both dishes lacked distinct flavor. Admittedly, I know this place is famous for their wings, but I don't eat chicken. The interior is decorated with old ephemeral objects and beer logos, which I love. I love a facility with a rich and observable history to it. The beer list is pages long, and we went with a Snake Dog IPA which was long expired, and a classic Weihenstephan. A cold day in November cruising around the Berkshires we stopped here and had a bowl of French onion soup which was delicious. Nice and warm now we tried their buffalo wings and a couple of their local craft beers, wings were really crispy on the outside just how I like them as good as it gets. I love their wings and their cute salad bar. I've never had a disappointing meal there, and even though the servers seem a bit rough around the edges, I do realize that this is a popular, busy place. It's not a chain restaurant that the area tends to have as options, unless you like diner food. There was a night that our wings were left without flavoring, and they gave us another order which was again left without flavoring. Not sure what was up with that, but they made good on their mistake. Gave us a coupon for two free orders in the future. I love this place. read more

If I could give this place a -0 I would. I'm a single woman 65 years old and I travel all over the place by myself. I was standing at the door for a half an hour. There were two couples in front of me and two couples behind me. The manager seated the couples in front of me and I was next. He came from the other side of the partition from the bar area so I wouldn't see him, and seated the couple that came in a half an hour after me. It was like I didn't exist or he didn't want to seat a party of one. Finally, four people got up from the bar area, so I went and sat at the bar. I was only there for two minutes when he walked by, and I said to him "what you did was wrong and that was discrimination, I was standing there for a half an hour, and you seated the couple behind me, they came in 10 minutes ago." He literally threw me out of the restaurant, telling me that I was rude! Well, I beg to differ, he was rude and very unprofessional. I was a restaurant manager for 20 years. I would never ever treat a patron so disrespectful. When I was outside, I told some people what happened and they said "well you didn't miss much the food wasn't that great." A regular came out, a man, and said "you were right that was wrong!" Well, I already knew that it was wrong! I would never spend a dime in that restaurant! read more

It was ok. Nothing to write home about. Atmosphere: Inside was dark, so we decided to eat outside. Really nice view. There was a weird smell on the deck but eventually went away. Food: The calamari had a weird batter and chewy and served with cocktail sauce not marinara; weird, never had it that way. French onion soup wasn't bad but needed to add a little salt. Chicken Mediterranean dish was ok but weird; chunky sauce. I think it was supposed to be feta cheese. Scallops were good. Green beans were yummy but the mashed potato's tasted like it came from a box. Beware: They also charge for anything extra; asked for extra sauce and asked if the charged (thank goodness I did) because the answer was yes. The waitress even said they charge for everything. We saw other tables order the wings and it looked good. Perhaps we ordered wrong. Don't know if we'd go back but if we do, I'd probably try the wings. read more

The bar itself is pretty cool. Old style blacksmith for sure. Food ok. Typical pub food but good. Bartender friendly. BUT, be warned. They have a thief among them. Paid with a credit card I hadn't used in a week or two. That night got the dreded email from the c.c. company wanting to know if I had just bought stuff on line all over the country!!!! This restaurant is fabulous. Out geocaching and got hungry. The interior is a place where stories could be told. The food was excellent and lots of it. I have been here many times, for many years. It is a must go for our ski trips to Jiminy to get my favourite wings anywhere; Buff Orpington. This flavour (CDN spelling) is so unique and so good. A bit spicy and tangy. Love 'em. Gotta have 'em eh! Then there is the beer selection. Always rotating and always diverse. The rest of the food is good and there are always a few specials rotated each week. It's one of the attractions for us to return here almost every year to ski. Super awkward experience. Took forever to get seated when there were about five other people in the restaurant. Sat five of us including two kids at a tiny table in the corner. We tried to rearrange a bit but we're met with a snotty comment from one of the other servers. She said "other people won't be able to get through" with a rude tone. The restaurant was empty. Our actual server was very nice and patient with our kids who were off the wall. Three out of the four meals we got were below average. Stale bread and weird presentations. The "brisket" sandwich was quite possibly the most disgusting thing I have ever seen a restaurant serve to someone. It was literally a pile of microwaved roast beef that was more fat than meat. I can't believe that a kitchen would send that out. Beer was good and so were the wings. I used to come here often when I lived in the area and I was really shocked to see how downhill this place has gone. read more

I have been going to the Old Forge for about 20 years now. The fact I'm still going there should say it all. Do they have their ups and downs? Yes. I've been privy to a lot of them. However - compared to a lot of other places I've been, here, there and everywhere - I know that if I ever moved away from the Berkshires, no restaurant would ever be able to replace the Forge between the atmosphere (indoors or outside), the people (staff and regulars) and the food (rarely have had a problem with anything I've ordered - when I have, it's taken care of). I'd need to stick this place in my back pocket and take it with me if I left this area. Love it. I will say - some patience is required, especially during busy seasons (which in the Berkshires has become every season!) and DEFINITELY during these "COVID-times". These days, bring your mask, and WEAR your mask while waiting in line and being seated at your table. Be respectful. Everyone else is! read more

The timing was right for a lunch stop and the blue and white Bavarian flags beckoned us to turn the car around. It's Oktoberfest season! Although not necessarily a sports bar, it is a good place for pigskin. After a visual survey of the draughts, we settled on Hofbrau Lagers, a flatbread and a shareable salad. The service was good - our waitress seemed to be new - and one other constantly roaming the dining room in search of empty plates. One tip: avoid sitting by the front door. The owner is from the Buffalo area...so yeah these wings are good. It's a pretty nice old dark pub too...kind of the threshold of the cozy, dive, and homey. Pittsfield and the area is a culinary desert for the most part (including a lot of Lenox which oozes faux-sophisticated pretension)...so reduce your expectations and go for my favorite guilty pleasure...wings. Beautiful valley view! If the weather is nice, their back porch is an amazing spot. There's a peaceful view out over a little valley. Makes for a perfect spot to enjoy iced tea and a burger -- which is what we did. The fish and chips were also excellent! read more
