It took too long to wait for a seat and we left... :( went across the street to Toad Hall - better choice!!!

The food was mostly as good as always, but when I visited with four family members on a Saturday evening the service and pacing was terrible. We got there at about 4:45, fifteen minutes after opening and there were a few tables seated. We got our sangria and put in orders for several tapas and a couple entrees. My uncle ordered a cold salad as one of his choices. My dad's chicken entree came out (roasted). He shared, but I don't eat meat, so... We got a cup of soup next, mine. My mom ordered another cup of soup after tasting my bisque and was brought a bowl, but quickly. We waited for about 10-15 minutes before we got the next set. No salad yet. I know people share small plates, but we didn't intend to share them all. Next my three vegetarian choices came out. They were good and we all ate them, but still no salad or scallops for my uncle. My mom's steak came next. No salad. No scallops. We inquired multiple times and while our server was apologetic, it too far too long. Everyone was done by the time my uncle got his choices and he was mostly full from tasting ours while he waited. They credited his dishes on his bill as the waiter had promised, but we had to ask for a correction when they only credited one at first. The experience left a cloud over the whole experience, our first time together after a year. They needed more servers on the shift. It also would have helped to have people wait outside for tables, because the place got jammed with people just milling around the bar and impeding the servers' movements. Sad. read more

Lots of folks tend to look past the restaurant scene in downtown Racine, but it is one of the better scenes for a small city. Olde Madrid is one of those pillars of this restaurant scene. It truly creates authentic Spanish dishes when most folks will not discern from Mexican food despite the tastes being half a world away. The service is always great, but can be slow when things are busy. And yet, I never get the feeling people are upset if they have to stay a bit longer at this establishment. Worth the trip up from Illinois, or down from Milwaukee. read more

The paella is a must try the ambience brought me back to a trip I had taken to Spain many years ago. I plan on returning if you haven't been there it is a must try. read more

Absolutely amazing place to eat - wish we could make reservations for our next visit to Racine, but it's first come, first serve, so be prepared for a bit of a wait. 10 of 10 for every single aspect of this meal, and this is coming from people who know and love great food! Didn't expect much and got even less. Ordered the Barcelona chicken salad and they put a half a teaspoon of dressing on it. I asked our lame waitress for extra dressing and she sent a busboy with half the container full. I asked her again for a double container of dressing the chicken was burnt and super DRY IT TOOK THIS LAME SLOW waitress 20 min to deliver the dressing with NO APOLOGY. WILL NEVER GO BACK THERE AGAIN and they hardly refill water glasses. Here's a thought when a customer asks you for more dressing for your pathetically DRY chicken dont stare at them from behind the counter then make them wait 20 min . Whomever was the waitress w the accent light brown long hair in pony tail on Tuesday 8/6/24 night around 630 pm HEY OWNERS!. She needs to learn how to wait tables with manners . Holy cow, those empanadas are divine. Best I've ever had in the US, in Spain, or anywhere else. The almond albóndigas were my guy's favorite and he raved about them, seriously raved, for the whole meal. I was disappointed by the chicken on the paella but that's what I get for not trusting my gut and getting the paella de mariscos. My pulpo was very tasty and appropriately chewy considering the proximity to salt water, which was not my favorite but nothing I did not expect. Our server was so kind and the food came out amazingly fast. It is a small place so it can get a little cramped but a wonderful experience and a great first mini foray into Spanish cuisine for my guy. read more

My absolute favorite restaurant. I love the people...service is always good. Wine selection is amazing. Some of my favorites are the tangerine olives, seared scallops, tenderloin paella, avocado crab salad (imitation crab meat but still delicious) and papas bravas. We went the 26th of Dec 2020 and had the Spanish quarter cab-temperanillo wine, papas bravas, garlic chili shrimp, the Olde Madrid salad, and the avocado crab salad. Everything was absolutely delicious. And I got tangerine olives couple weeks ago my friend and I went for dinner and the service was stellar...as always...and food was so good. The one thing I didn't love was the fried calamari...it has a thicker batter than I personally like but it was still fresh. The paella (pictured) was awesome. We also had the plantana al carmelo for desert. I can't wait to have my next visit. read more

The food is so so at best. Nothing had great flavor and the scallops were undercooked. We ordered fired grilled veggies, seared scallops, date salad, side of rice, knobs, and potatoes. The potatoes were so greasy and little cubes like you get for breakfast at a diner. We also got skirt steak which was delicious! But everything else was just so so. Nothing had great flavor. Nothing mmmmm that was delicious. I had a fly in my drink. The whole evening was just Soso. Spent $150 and other than the company nothing was great. I do not recommend and I definitely would not go back again. I do not know why everyone says this place is so delicious. Everyone in my party thought the same thing. read more

All I can say is bring a big appetite and be ready for flavors to explode in your mouth. We had a group of four and we all left with doggy bags. Visiting Racine this weekend and ordered carryout from Olde Madrid. The food was amazing and the tapas generous. We had a variety of tapas cold, carne, seafood. The date salad was full of texture and flavors both sweet and salty. The manchego and jamon was typical. The pesto tomatoes were tasty but just soaking in way too much oil, which made the bread too soggy and hard for me me to stomach all that oil. The steak portobello was delish and the steak tender. The grilled octopus was perfect, a tad spicy but grilled to perfection. Not rubbery at all. The Spanish meatballs were flavorful and I loved the tomato sauce. The grilled bread was not soggy at all. I imagine transporting the food had a slight effect rather than dining in the restaurant, but we don't dine out anymore until things get under control with Covid. I highly recommend this tapas restaurant! Delish and plates full of creativity and flavor. read more

I gathered at the table with 5 friends and we had the best tastebud experience in a long time. Everything was amazing, dish after dish just had our mouths watering! We had excellent service so helpful for 6 newbies to this wonderful restaurant. They have a big take out service. Carry outs was a steady traffic. It's a family business and their children are very attentive to the tables. The only downfall to the restaurant is that it is very loud due to the old building and its acoustics. however the food outshined that distraction. read more

Wow! If you want to eat something in Racine besides Americanized Italian food, head straight to Olde Madrid. I worked in Racine for years and eat here twice a month with several colleagues. The sangria is sweet and smooth and easy to drink too much of. You order tapas and get a many or few as you want. My all time favorite were the almond meatballs -- the creamy photo below. Really, I can still taste the savory, juicy bites. The paella is fantastic as well. The plates are small, so get several and find your favorites. Doesn't look like much when you walk past but after seeing reviews, we had to try it out. There was an hour or so wait for 3 of us, but it was well worth the wait. The majority of the menu is small plates, so order a few if that is the main entree. The Paella's are definitely shareable! Olde Madrid is a Racine gem that should be on everyone's "must dine" list. We recently made a long-overdue visit that included a half-dozen tapas (aka small plates). Each was simply wonderful - at prices well below what you'd pay for a similar dining experience in Milwaukee or Chicago. Our choices were: duck croquetas, beef skewers, almond meatballs, broiled pesto tomatoes, baked goat cheese and bruselas. A fantastic array of flavors! The service was quick and attentive. Can't say enough good things about the food. Great prices too. It's nice to have a restaurant in the area that is not your typical bar food or hamburgers. Great ambience. Very friendly service. The food came out much faster than expected considering they were absolutely packed. The only negative thing, and it's not really a ding on the restaurant, is that a large group was seated next to us with two small children who were playing on their phones. The volume on their phones was turned up very loud and was extremely annoying. Took away from an otherwise very enjoyable experience. I didn't want to be "that" person, so didn't complain. It would have been nice if the restaurant would have told them to put their phones on silent. read more

The place is warmly decorated and had a few tables filled midweek. I decided on the chicken with cherries hot tapa and the Olde Madrid salad for lunch. The waiter was great- he recommended the salad and steered me to the chicken when I was ambivalent. He really knew the food and his descriptions were accurate. I loved both dishes and it would be hard to return and not order the same exact dishes. I loved the mix of olives, pine nuts, and cherries in the chicken dish. They were generous with the ingredients. Same for the salad- not lots of lettuce with a sprinkling of toppings. It was more the other way around. Toppings included apples too which added a great crunch. I recommend this place for a delicious meal. read more
