We sort of stumbled into this place while wandering around Salem. It is a pub by decoration and they have an extensive and creative menu. I had a Narragansett beer (always drink the local stuff) along with two appetizers, Korean barbecued duck wings (they were huge) and smoked salmon on toast points. (Excellent). Fast and efficient service. We sat in the front with a view of an interesting outdoor art work across the street made of wooden branches that looked like giant birdhouses. I highly recommend this place. It is about a block from the Salem Visitor Center, across from the hotel. since we were walking we didn't address parking but there is a huge parking garage a block away at the visitor center. Best comfort food in town! Although a little small, which was cozy pre-Covid, the Pub has awesomely hearty meals that feel home-cooked. The short ribs are a personal favorite and my dad always requests a dinner there whenever he visits us. read more

I'll give 2 stars but only because I felt sorry for the girl who worked here. I only saw 2 employees. The girl had to seat people, take orders, serve food and clean the tables practically by herself. Several other parties left because it took so long. The food wasn't very good. Literally the worst wings I've ever seen with no ranch dressing on the side. Let's start with the positives: the food was great and the location was perfect for our Spooky Friday the 13th birthday celebration! This is a cute pub, even if the seating was rather tight. The lunch menu has a great selection and I ordered the "Uncommon Cubano." It was stellar! The other sandwiches: caprese and the turkey club were also big hits. Don very much enjoyed his fish and chips. He said the fish was very fresh. The awful part is our experience was the overpowering smell of bleach when we walked in. Granted it was only 15 minutes after they opened, but it was strong enough that we considered leaving. The other problem was that it took more than 30 minutes after we ordered to get our food! It wasn't that crowded. We overheard the table next to us complain about the slow service too. We didn't know if it was the kitchen or our server. Maybe she was new? She didn't seem comfortable at her job. All in all, the food and location were good enough to overcome the looooooong wait. I'd give it a go - especially if not in a hurry! read more

This place is the best when you're super hungry. The service is great, and I've never had to wait for a seat for lunch, even in the tourist season. They have a solid draught list with local options. My favorite thing on the menu is the turkey club, but their burger is also amazing. Super solid pub food - I'll keep coming back! read more

I had a wonderful time here. Although it was quite busy (a Sunday evening in October), I sat down at the bar immediately and was warmly welcomed by the bar staff. Along with a couple of pints of English ale, I dined on the soup du jour (tomato gruyere) and some outstanding grilled steak tips. All was served timely and cheerfully by the staff. This is actually a great place if you want to meet up with some friends and have some cold ones and have some delicious appetizers. Good selection of beers and wine though. We walked into this place thinking it would be standard pub food. But we were pleasantly surprised by the menu. For an appetizer we got the spicy pineapple shrimp. I got a chicken sandwich and Hubs got a steak. My food was good but he thought his was mediocre. Overall, the food was good. The service was fantastic. read more

I've been here a few times now. The last time I walked in, looked at the menu and thought: "hmm that seems a bit pricey for pubfair." We ordered drinks and thought we'd leave but then we started reading the menu and the more we read the more hungry we were so we ordered a few different things. When the food came it was sooooooooooooo good. Like all of the food, everything we ordered was delicious. Highly recommend the pickles- Holly's spicy pickles! I love that it's a little dark inside the pub and that you can see out the windows at the people. One time around halloween I ate in here with a few friends and we got to watch all the people in costumes and that was just a great chill thing to do. Highly recommend this pub. Came for a quiet drink on a Friday night around 11:30, definitely had that for about a half hour and then a huge wedding party from the hotel across the street showed up. Made for some very interesting people watching. They said weddings come over most weekend nights. Our drinks were good and the one server did a good job managing the huge influx of people without keeping us waiting too long. read more

Stopped in for a beer. This place used to be called The Old Spot. It looks and feels completely unchanged, right down to the curtain that's right inside the doorway. I was intrigued by this place. The menu is small, but most items seem like something you may have or definitely have seen before. That's until you give the food a taste. Truly and incredible dining experience. It being my first time, I ordered the burger. I think that's a pretty fair gauge of how a restaurant's other items will be in the future. The burger was a perfect juicy medium. I added cheddar cheese and Guinness mushrooms. MmmmMmmmMMmm. It's hard to impress me with a burger but between the brioche bun, fresh lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles sat the best burger I have had in Salem thus far. Completely worth the 11$ and 1$ add on for cheese and 1$ for mushrooms. To top it all off the fries were homemade and perfectly crispy. I also snuck a bite of pork loin off my roommate's plate which was served with a fig sauce. WOW. The cook on the pork loin was dead on and that is a tough thing to do! We will certainly be back. The fish was lightly battered and the coleslaw was very good. My mom had the turkey sandwich and the turkey looked as though it was hand carved and everything. A group of seven of us, friends for 30 years, got together tonight for a bite. Tried Olde Main Street Pub for the first time. A couple of us had been secretly avoiding it because we missed the nostalgia of the Crypt Cafe that had occupied the space years ago. The atmosphere was perfect - roaring fireplace in the quiet room and space for our group in the back room. Bree, our totally awesome waitress, turned down the music on our side so we could better hear each other. The food was really good: potato soup, steak, pork, burgers, salmon, salad - all of it. There is almost always a complaint from one of us, or a quick negative suggestion, but not once here. The impossible had happened. My steak was cooked perfectly. The Medford folks said it's worth them returning from Medford and we can barely get them out to Somerville. Great job! read more

Our first trip to Salem and it didn't start well. We stopped here to grab a bite before we explored. I asked the hostess if they served "pub food" and she said it was way better. With our group of 4 only 2 of the meals were what we expected. One of our group had ordered a cheeseburger but it came with no cheese. We would have told our server but she never came back to check on how our food was. Two of our group went outside and then our server came over. Stumbled across this place while visiting Salem, and was so very happy to find that the menu options included a super delicious quinoa dish with roasted fresh veggies and incredible lightly roasted kale. WOW!! What fantastic food! We started off with the smoked gouda fritters with lemon aioli. It may sound pretentious but it's not. It had a wonderful smoky flavor that combined so well with the goat cheese and was off set by the lemon in the aioli. Personal recommendation- try a bite topped with both the aioli and the grilled tomato wedge that they serve it with. It's the complete package: smokey, fresh, creamy, slightly tart (lemon), and crunchy. Next we had the Sicilian meatballs with fennel on top of a crostini. This seriously should be turned into a main dish and not just and appetizer. The meatballs were moist, dense and a good size. The sauce was mild and not acidic. I'd call it a hearty sauce. The crostini was not too thick so it won't cut up the roof of your mouth. Our main dish was the steak tips with mashed potatoes. Wow. Magic. Tips? More like mini-steaks. Each bite was succulent and juicy and the mushroom demi the perfect zing to top off the flavor. The mashed potatoes were simple yet amazing. We finished our meal with the vanilla bean bread pudding. Our server, Jackie, used the word "homemade" no less than three times when she described it- as in homemade bread pudding, with homemade whipped cream, and homemade caramel sauce. It was a beautiful finish to a wonderful and incredibly satisfying meal. The two of us able to eat here for $55 and this included a $9 drink. Crazy reasonable prices! We stopped in here to grab lunch before the Christmas Carol Trolley Tour. We were looking for a cozy place to watch the Patriots game while we ate and this place fit the bill perfectly! We had a nice table near the fireplace with the game on the TV right next to us. My daughter ordered the kids cheeseburger, my other daughter and I both got the fish and chips and my husband got the crab cake sandwich. Everything was excellent! The bartender noticed my husband checking out the beer selection in the cooler while we waited for our food, and offered to give him a couple of samples. We really wanted to like this place. Being in the heart of Salem, it was a busy night and we had noticed a line earlier in the day though we were able to walk right in. The door guy and hostess were extremely kind and professional, but unfortunately that's where the good news stopped. Our waitress was introduced to us with a smile and warm greeting. We put in our order for drinks, and the waitress returns to inform us that the beer ordered by my boyfriend was unavailable. Fair, as it is listed on the menu as a limited quantity beer. No big, we'll go for a tap option. They're out. Third times the charm, I guess. I ordered a creamy martini and was confused when a transparent drink was placed in front of me. I asked our waitress if this was the correct drink, stating the name and all, and she says yes. Okay, I'm not convinced, but I'll take a sip. No. Definitely not my drink. She comes back around, looks at me, and ignores me as I begin to speak, then walks away. Once we finally get her attention again after a bit of a wait, I tell her that this is definitely not what I ordered. She says nothing, then walks away once again. Um, okay? After another period of waiting she finally comes over and drops off the correct drink without any apology or acknowledgement of the mistake. When our food finally arrives, it is delivered by another waitress who was extremely kind and helpful. Unfortunately, none of it was worth the wait. The fish & chips was cold and bland. My boyfriend's burger, which he had ordered medium rare, came out well past done. Our waitress comes by again to check on us. I ask for some water, when, once again, she begins to walk away as I begin to speak. Passive aggression at its finest! At this point my face just can't hide the disappointment. The kind waitress who had delivered our food happened to be right behind her, and notices this. With a nervous laugh she tries to reassure me with "Oh, don't worry she heard you, she'll be right back with your water". Thanks, kind waitress. Guess who delivered our water glasses? It was clear that beyond our one horrible waitress who seemed to resent me for noticing that I had been given the wrong drink, the rest of the house were fabulous people who gave great service. Pretty bad service, and not the greatest food. We were seated in the side room as a party of 4, and the table was tiny...it was pretty much a table for 2 turned sideways. When we asked our waitress about items on the menu, she didn't give us any input or feedback, and didn't even appear to really know some of the items, but pretended to. My husband started with the Shrimp and Haddock Bisque ($9), which upon trying it, didn't have much flavor and was very watery. There was barely any fish or shrimp in the soup, and it was not served with bread or crackers. We couldn't even finish it because of the lack of flavor. I ordered the Field Greens Salad for dinner, and added a chicken breast to it ($12). I had ordered it with dressing on the side, and it was brought to me drenched in dressing. I clarified with the server and got attitude about getting my salad remade the way I ordered it. She did take it back, and brought me a fresh salad, although the chicken was from the previous salad as it was covered in dressing from being on the previous salad. The salad the second time around was skimpy, not much lettuce. I only found a few dried cranberries and not much orange. Walnuts and goat cheese were on the salad in the amount I would expect. The salad was good and the dressing was tasty, but I was disappointed in the size. If the salad is going to be that size, it should be served in a bowl appropriate for its size. My husband ordered the Korean style duck wings ($9) to be served as his meal as he wasn't too hungry. He enjoyed the wings and said they were nicely crispy and flavorful. Our friends ordered the Braised Beef Short Ribs and Steak Tips and really enjoyed their meals (reason why I am rating 2 stars and not 1...bc some of the food was good). It was pretty crowded for a Saturday night and I've seen other good reviews so I was disappointed we had such an awful experience. read more

I think we ate at a different place than some of the other reviewers on here - this place was outstanding. Totally unexpected food - exceptional quality and prepared beautifully. The service was outstanding too - friendly, prompt, genuine, great great folks. We started with the Gouda and goat cheese fritters. Holy heck, were they delicious. We followed another reviewer's suggestion, eating all of the elements (fritter, grilled tomato, lemon aioli) together and it was crazy good. I had the Chicken O'Brady sandwich and it was so good. The chicken was tender, the brioche was fresh, and the mustard was flavorful. All ingredients complimented each other nicely. I LOVED the fries. My wife got the steak tips. Cooked to perfection to true medium! The mashed potatoes were tasty, and the green beans were also perfectly cooked. Then we got the flourless chocolate cake. WHAT!! Warm, with homemade whipped cream and a ginger creme anglaise. Seriously. So close to everything interesting downtown - I bet a lot of people walk right by this, but it's simply delicious. I personally loved the atmosphere - chill, cozy, relaxed, with ridiculously good food. We'd eat here again tomorrow if we weren't leaving first thing in the morning. Our whole meal was $65 - included up two beers, a glass of wine, appetizers, two entrees, dessert, and attentive servers who seemed pleased that we were so pleased. Great all around. read more
