Mike S. summed up OTC shoppe in his review - good job Mike! Bohemian and hippie-esque has always been OTC's vibe. Getting new tires in Athens the other week, I (sadly) noticed an obituary on their bulletin board for Cheryl Prince Sendowski who owned the coffee shoppe from 1998 until it was sold in 2013. This was one spot my Birthday Club group met at in the late 80s and early 90s. We enjoyed their simplistic sandwiches and iced teas. I'm not a coffee snob by any stretch, and their coffee doesn't evoke great memories for me; however, I do recall it being "fair trade," even back then. The sandwiches were good, the place was nice to relax in, and the back patio was even more eclectic with various statuary and just "stuff" hanging from the fence. Sandwiches were nothing you can't make at home, but they were good, edible, quick and filling! The community bulletin board was always clustered with fliers and business cards for music lessons, missing pets, and pressure washers. It's a local's place for locals and had one regular, Mike Maples who was conferred with the title "Mayor" of Ole Town Coffee. The gazebo out front is quaint to sit in. Do know parking is tight. There aren't many spaces out front to park. I think the back alley may have some spots. For a slice of Huntsville, I would recommend visiting OTC! read more

Parking was a little tough to find. It looks like there are only a few spots too so I can't imagine a lot of people being able to be here at a time. There's more outdoor seating than indoor seating. Prices seem relatively cheaper than other coffee places I've been to in town. I ended up ordering a bagel with strawberry cream cheese and a plain latte with oat milk. The strawberry cream cheese was served in a plastic container, and seemed different from store bought cream cheese. It had a date of 1-12, but still seemed weirdly dried on the outside. Anyways, the bagel was good. The latte was just okay. Nothing special. Not sure if people order any different drinks while they're here, but I'm definitely tempted to come back and try some of the teas they have. read more

Love, love, love the prices, baked good selection, varied outdoor seating and alternative cooler drink selection - they have protein shakes!! Our service was great too. We were greeted by a friendly Covid masked (which I greatly appreciate) cashier who explained to these two first timers the ins and outs of their varied coffee bean selection. She was terrific. We also love the 10% off for bringing your own cup - very eco friendly ... if only they would get rid of the single serve plastic water glasses by the door, I would give them a full 10 out of 10. or in this case a five out of five stars. read more

It's not at all what it used to be and it's heart breaking. The baristas are very unwelcoming and talk out loud about how their regulars irritate them for hanging around. This used to be a place you can spend time with the neighborhood and had personality and COMMUNITY. They ruined such a wonderful spot. We need MORE of what olde towne used to be. Adorable coffee shop with a very chill vibe. They have a variety of beans as well as loose tea, some pastries and sandwiches. Their lattes are just ok and I haven't tried other types of drinks there yet, but their croissant sandwich is delicious and tastes super fresh. I usually get the turkey and swiss and it's great for breakfast. Parking is a bit tricky, they have 4-5 spots out front, and some more out back but gotta drive through an alley to get there. read more

I live downtown and prefer to shop local so I've tried this coffee shop numerous times. I want to love this place as it's eclectic and has a homey feel. But the staff and customer service ruins what could be a 5 star experience. Today the staff was more interested in enjoying themselves, chatting and acting unprofessional than serving their customers and as a result my order was missed. I stood waiting while others behind me got their drinks and food. When I finally got my order, I did receive an apology from the young man but no offer to give me a free coffee or anything. Again, I prefer to support my local businesses but I'll be looking elsewhere for my coffee fix. read more

We love visiting local owned coffee shops, their coffee, food, ambiance is always on point. Let me start by telling you about the ambiance, LOVED IT. The decor is very eclectic, from a church pew to a dress up skeleton all dressed up with their shirts sipping some joe. Little plaques celebrating coffee and cover albums hanging on the wall. The patio has several sitting areas, including a gazebo. We talked to the owner who was roasting some coffee and he and the baristas made us feel like we were regulars. Besides a cortadito and cappuccino, we had the chicken salad sandwich on a croissant OMG! and the Italian!! Awesome place to enjoy a great cup of coffee or tea get some great sandwiches and enjoy the view. Still wearing masks and practicing social distance. read more

Cute little coffee shop! Dropped in today for the first time and had a butterscotch latte and cheese danish. Yum! Both were tasty. I love that they have a variety of interesting flavors available. They also had a good selection of pastries, though it was very overcast today and, likely as a result, it was kind of hard to see them well. I also noticed on my way in at the house next door the coffee roasters roasting fresh beans. I love to see this! I haven't found a ton of other coffee places in the area that roast their own coffee. It makes such a difference in quality. My only complaint is that it could benefit from some better lighting in the pastry case, and I would have liked my latte to be a little hotter (I'd say it was probably 120F and I prefer them to be at least 140F+.) But these are minor issues and not worth demoting a star. I'm sure I'll be back to enjoy more of their selection. read more

I'd say they're actually 4.5 stars, but I round up for Yelp. This coffee shop is among my top five favorites in the greater Huntsville/Madison area. My husband and I have been here many times in the past two and a half years. Pros - Cute location - Cozy atmosphere - Good pastries - Lots of great breakfast and lunch options, and breakfast is served all day. The food is great. - Good service - Good coffee with lots of latte flavorings to choose from - Paper menus and a menu on the board - Great seasonal drinks and flavors - Self-serve water (sometimes)* - Indoor and outdoor seating - Their prices are really reasonable - Open on Sundays - If you like outdoor seating, they have lovely trees and a gazebo Cons - While I think their setup is cute and cozy, it is cramped. There's not a ton of indoor seating. They have parking in the front and back, but it doesn't seem to be enough for the number of customers they get. - This place attracts a rougher crowd of people who like to smoke and swear in the outdoor seating area. That's not the establishment's fault, and it doesn't bother me, but it might bother other people (especially those with small children), so I have to mention it. - Paper cups - The water cooler is empty more often than not - They're always very busy, so service can be a little slow sometimes, but they seem to be working very hard. I know that seems like a lot of cons for 4.5 stars, but my husband and I spend a lot of time in the Five Points area, and we really like this place. I love their breakfast croissants, and they usually have some really good cookies, cupcakes, or muffins in their pastries display. The owner seems really nice and hard-working. I gave a 5 star review to Olde Towne several years ago. I'm now amending it. Olde Towne was my favorite coffee shop for ages- it was a favorite of every "alternative," type local- in high school, we'd go there to do our homework. I'm now 34. They were a vital part of the Huntsville experience- live shows, either inside, with like, a guy playing Bush or Oasis on an acoustic guitar, or out back, on a little tiny stage, with nothing but a one-drink minimum as an entrance fee- like a hot chocolate, which also helped you keep warm. When construction was announced for and began on the (rather high end) apartments currently being built very close to Olde Towne Coffee Shoppe, the owners (who bought the store from its previous owners, and had little to do with the day to day running of the place, but knew enough to hire competent management to do so), rather than opting to continue running the store the way it had always been run- as a well known, "alternative" style coffee shop, run by and catering to a more counterculture demographic- they instead decided to change the place, hoping to appeal to a different demographic- the rich people moving in next door. So, they fired the manager, who pretty much did everything- her ideas in the recipes in their monthly specials, their decor, even the music playing in the store was her. I don't even know what all else she did tbh, but I do know that nowhere else in town is playing any Tori Amos- whereas I used to have somewhere I went, sometimes twice a day, that did. Firing her cost them their entire crew, because it caused a mass walk out- all the employees had been hired and trained by her. Ever since, the owners (at least one of whom has always complained about having to work there period), have had to be there, working, a lot more- and they don't like it, and they don't know how to do things as well the people who worked there before- people who actually took pride in what they did. So, their quality has gone downhill, and the old regulars don't go there anymore. So, some rich AHs wanted to make more money, messed around with a well loved Huntsville landmark where they never fit in anyway, and are now stuck working there, burning the espresso beans, etc., after started trying to appeal to the rich people who are moving in nearby, rather than continuing to serve the people who made them Huntsville-famous- so, it was a big cash grab, one that unfortunately cost the city a rare place of actual culture. But, now everyone knows how they treat their employees, and their quality has gone downhill. So, people don't go there anymore. read more

Popped by to continue my "Bailey learns to like coffee journey" on Sunday afternoon. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience. Don't trust Google Maps to help you find this place, as it sent me in circles (more accurately, squares) around this place for a while. I thought I knew where it was, and I actually did, but the app convinced me that I didn't! Basically, go down Pratt past the intersection where Star Market is, and this place will be on your right as you head toward the highway. It's set off a good bit from the street and the sign is small, so it's easy to miss. I do see what other reviewers have said about the regulars/clientele. I definitely got some weird looks from the folks hanging around outside. 5 Points is a unique area, haha. I find its quirks kind of interesting, but I know it's not necessarily everyone's cup of tea. The shop itself is very tiny, and there wouldn't be room for a ton of people to sit inside under the best of circumstances. It's cozy and there's some cute nerd memorabilia, like a Dalek statue (and a photo of Alton Brown with said Dalek statue - never knew he visited Huntsville!). For now, they're only allowing two people inside at a time to order. They're serious about enforcing this rule, and I appreciated it. I asked for help making the coffee that would best suit my tastes. The barista was super friendly and pleasant and happily accommodated all my questions. One of the other workers politely offered to warm up my banana nut muffin, which was nice. I wound up with some sort of iced mocha creation to drink. I'm clearly not a coffee snob, as I'm still learning to /like/ the stuff, but for whatever it's worth, I enjoyed my drink, though I still could've gone for it to be sweeter. That's down to taste, though; my only real valid criticism is that it needed more ice. What was in there was a paltry amount that melted pretty quickly. The banana nut muffin tasted good (I've never had a bad one), but was lacking bigger pieces of nuts on top and any amount of chopped nuts throughout the body of the muffin. Overall, though, the super welcoming and user friendly baristas are more than enough to earn my favor for now. I'll stop by again sometime whenever I feel like building my coffee palate. read more

This place was staggeringly quaint. The quintessential coffee shop, nice menu, great coffee options, eclectic decor, limited inside seating, and an abundance of outdoor seating. I was ordering and ask them to leave off the bagel due to recent gluten issues. They quickly volunteered that they had a gluten-free bread available. I ordered that and my wife got cranberry oatmeal. Both were perfect. One of the best breakfast sandwiches I've had in awhile. The staff is quick and courteous, usually mutually exclusive terms. They really make the place. One of many stops on the Huntsville Coffee Trail. Make sure you drop in. You won't regret it. read more

I tried their large brown sugar cinnamon latte with almond milk and it was really good! This is a cute coffee shop. The staff are nice. The parking isn't ideal, but at least they have a lot. The ambiance is lovely. I'm not a huge fan of their coffee, for the record. I've had a few drinks that tasted, well, burnt. (I mean, if I wanted that I'd go to Starbucks.) However, they have convenient hours, I like supporting local, and they're really nice people. Used to be a great place. If you go once, you'll probably be fine. However, if you regularly stop in to get coffee and look like you have a job you're probably not going to be allowed to keep coming in. The coffee is good but what I make at home is just as good. I order my coffee from my old Denver coffee shop, Kaladi Coffee. The super young girl barista with glasses and dark brown hair will mess up your orders on purpose if you aren't dressed grungy enough. She seems a lot more comfortable with people who obviously drink and smoke pot a lot. That's not me. She went on and on about this one guy who mind controlled her that ended up in the newspaper as a violent rapist. I don't know. She seems a bit off balance. You should ask for a different barista. I find it a waste of time to go in there right now. Be careful, she'll kick you out quickly if she makes your drink wrong and you have the gaul to request it made correctly. Then she'll berate you and argue that she's made it correctly. Then she'll ban you. Don't go in after major drinking holidays. You'll be harassed by a bunch of people hailing themselves as "regulars" who are still drunk from the night before. Secret is? Most people under the age of 40 who frequent this place drink and do drugs frequently. There's a lot of social drama due to that, here. I don't think it's a good place to take kids until they clean it up. Honestly, I feel sorry for the owner. He is a really nice man. He roasts a mean coffee bean. He really tries. I hope he can survive this very stormy time in the history of Olde Town. I don't know that this location will ever not be a coffee shop. I've been going here off and on since the 90's. When things get this weird, it usually changes ownership. I like this guy though. I hope he can figure this out. read more

I'm no coffee snob, but when I'm in a new city, you better believe I'm tracking down a coffee shop I can't get at home. And this was a great find! I brought about 9-10 people in, and our service was great and very attentive. I love that they roast their own beans and I was so excited to try it. Unfortunately, there were just a couple items I'd improve on here: the parking lot is less than ideal for out of towners (let alone a giant 15 pass van), so I parked across the street at Waffle House. Knowing that there isn't a whole lot to do by means of changing that part, I would also just mention the scarcity of brew methods. If you're roasting beans in house, you'd want people to be able to experience the full flavor of your handcrafted beans-unfortunately, they only offer drip and French press (the latter of which isn't listed on the menu, but I asked anyway). Overall, this is a great, and very charming nook! I would definitely visit again! read more

Not many vegan food options, but I got the everything bagel and asked for hummus on it instead of cream cheese. The bagel was perfectly toasted and the hummus was great. "The hippies lost, Lebowski!" No, no they didn't, Mr. Lebiwski. They just moved into a coffee shop in old Five Points. And inside...everyone wins. Olde Towne is yet another spot for a wayward tea drinker such as myself to interact with a far cooler crowd than my nonexistent paygrade would allow at any other point in the day. And given Sarah's knowledge of old school hip hop and the random box of books at the counter...count me a fan. There's a lot here for the coffee drinker but surprisingly a lot for tea drinkers as well.  They csn all tell you better than i can about their in house bean batches.  There's definitely the organic, fair trade, feel good about buying blah blah stuff ...so again, everybody's winning. Oh and even a gazebo to attack for those so inclined...although you might have to share your perch with one of the local bohemians. Olde Towne mixes an eclectic charm along with its drinks and i think that's what brings me back...aside from this one saffron chai blend. There's always an album cover to be missed and found on a later visit. Or plastic chairs and pets be damned, a new spot to sit and watch just outside the front door. Probably the best coffee I've had during my short stay in downtown Huntsville. Staff friendly. Worth the effort to find it among the Pratt street construction. Approach from the alley. We stopped by for an afternoon coffee. It is a bit hard to find and set off the road.They have many flavors for the coffee. We had mocha, Carmel latte and Strawberry smoothie made with milk. We snacked on pumpkin bread and cheese danish. The coffee was a bit strong but much better after we stirred it well. The smoothie was very good. Danish and bread were ok but the prices are very good. Avoid this shop. The quality of product is terrible and the shop is cramped. My girlfriend and I stood at the counter for over 10 minutes before they even took our order, despite the fact there was not more than 3 people in the entire shop. Once our coffee came out, her iced coffee was spilling everywhere because the lid did not fit. The employees said that it was out of their control and that she might have just gotten a bad lid. Beyond that, the coffee was comparable to gas station quality. I was not able not drink a quarter of it before I had to dump it out. read more

When they leave your credit card on the counter after the payment, and the 5 customer was served before you, when they leave your order on the counter 6 other individuals got their, now your coffee is cold, your oatmeal is cold , then you know you stepped into the wrong store in the wrong part of town. I drove 30 minutes to try this place out. First and last time. Forget about the chess game outside, no handicapped parking, in fact parking is very limited, residential parking. But the customer are friendly and polite, it's those 2 behind the counter and their actions? Attitude? . I was the only one there for 10 minutes, so is this southern hospitality or southern atmosphere towards a certain type of person? The shop charged me for 2 pounds of espresso beans and they had them but then refunded because they wanted them. Point is that they are suppose to sell them but refused. I would not recommend wasting your time going here because the people working here has changed and they suck for customer service. Too bad bc they use to be great. Time to find a new coffee shop.
