This is a family favorite. We travel from Stafford to celebrate special occasions here. Yes, there are "trendy" restaurants downtown with a larger and rotating, seasonal, or farm-to-table menu. But Olde Towne Steak & Seafood is wonderful. The steak is always cooked to perfection, the shrimp in the Shrimp Cocktail are ENORMOUS, the stuffed mushrooms are (chef's kiss), their cocktails (especially dirty martinis) are wonderful, and their prime rib is as big as an infant's head. The interior could use a bit of an upgrade. I went there for my Senior prom in 1990 and although it is still cozy and inviting -especially fireside-the clean, classic decor could use a bit of a perking up. No minor issues like decor can obscure the wonderful service! A LOT of servers in this area consider waiting tables just a job to be done and gotten over with and customers a nuisance. Whether they truly feel it or not, the staff here present themselves as practicing their vocation. But none of this compares to the warmth and personal attention of Mrs. Hyon Harding, the owner. Mrs. Hyon always greets you like you are a welcome guest - not a dollar sign. She takes the time during each visit to personally visit each table to make sure everything is to your satisfaction and you are happy. And it is not just some token "drive by." You can tell she really does care and wants you to have a good experience. All of this beats truffle fries and Mac and cheese, rosemary mashed potatoes, and "locally foraged mushrooms" in my book and always will. read more

Went as a party of 4 and was seated in the back room. The bill was pretty darn high and I don't recall anything to sing home about. It also seriously needs a facelift. read more

Heartbroken over our visit last night. It has been decades since I last visited here, and I have been bragging on this place to my whole family. I'm from Richmond, so this location would be a bit of a drive, but when my child started attending UMW, I thought this would be a great opportunity to revisit a staple of old town Fredericksburg. The atmosphere was excellent and the wait staff very nice, but the food itself was disappointing. It all just lacked flavor...except the overwhelmingly salty taste of the prime rib. It all presents well and makes for pretty pictures, but it was greatly lacking. We started with two appetizers, the escargot and the stuffed oysters. I've had escargot many times, but this one was tasteless. It was served in melted butter but seemed to have no garlic at all. Normally, I would sop up the sauce with bread but one dip only tasted like simple melted butter. The stuffed oysters were promising, but we quickly determined there was way too much béarnaise sauce which drowned out the tasty crabmeat, less is more! For the main course, I had the king cut prime rib and my wife the Delmonico steak. We each had the creamed spinach as a side and the salad. Our salads came out and were merely small servings of iceberg lettuce with two small grape tomatoes on the side. The ranch and blue cheese dressings were bland. When the steaks came out, they also presented very well and the portions are as advertised. Unfortunately, that was the end of the excitement. My first bite was extremely salty. I had horseradish which seemed to balance the salty taste, but even the horseradish was off. Normally, horseradish has a bit of a kick to it. Nothing with this one. I even took a large chunk by itself with no effect. The Delmonico was tough and chewy. The only thing my wife enjoyed was the baked potato, and she's very forgiving on restaurants. I have very fond memories of going here in the late 80's and early 90's, and I'll cherish them as some of the best experiences going out to eat. But last night was a letdown. I took my wife to try it out compared to our recent visit to Charred where she had a melt in your mouth ribeye. There was no comparison. Sorry, but we won't be returning let alone bringing the extended family to experience what once was but is no more. Felt like either inexperienced cooks or taking shortcuts. Place was about 90% empty at 7:30 PM on a Friday. That's a clue. Our server, Chalice, was a highlight though! read more

We recently celebrated our anniversary at Old Town Steak and Seafood, and as always, it was an incredible experience. We dine here a few times each year, and the food and service consistently impress us. I usually go for the King Cut Prime Rib, which is hands down the best in town. My wife's favorite is the Broiled Seafood Platter, especially the Crab Imperial--she can't get enough of it. Our daughter opted for the Stuffed Lobster this time and is now hooked, refusing to order anything else! While the prices are on the higher side, the quality of the food makes it well worth it. Our server was great! He checked on us frequently and made sure all of our drinks were refilled. The low lighting and quiet atmosphere made for a really comfortable birthday dinner. I ordered the New York strip and lobster tail. The steak was cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth. This restaurant used to be so great. The atmosphere was romantic and rich. They used to be a long waiting list to get into this place. However, in recent times it has gone down. The first time I went here the steak was bigger than the plate and all your sides had to be put on another dish. The shrimp dish was huge as well. The cost was high, but you got your moneys worth. Today all the ambience is gone the food is good and the service is good but if you had experience the restaurant previously, it was much better. The interior is classy. Beautiful fireplace! The staff is very friendly! The filet was served in a plate full of butter and oil, it had no seasoning at all, the top of the filet was black(pic don't show well) and hard almost burnt yet the inside was a medium rare (ordered medium)-it was tender in the middle. The crab imperial was amazing but the lobster tail had not much taste. Their blue cheese on the salad is also amazing. Sad though you charge $3.00 for adding bacon and $3 to add cheese to your salads and baked potatoes without telling customers up front, you only ask if you want it on them and then you end up with a charge for practically another dinner for what you think would be included. Old Towne is a go-to for me and my friends whenever I'm in town visiting! My friend and her family are regulars and whenever we eat there we always have a great experience. They have phenomenal Bleu cheese dressing, so I would recommend ordering a salad and getting Bleu cheese dressing because they make it themselves. I loved it so much that I asked for the recipe! Man, the owner seems super nice and we got great service, but the food and ambiance is severely lacking. This was my boyfriend's favorite place, so I took him for his birthday. The bread that came out was Sister Schubert rolls, which I love, but would've liked to have seen house made bread at a restaurant. The mushrooms were pretty good-full of flavor and lots of cheese! The steaks-not so much. The filet was supposed to be cooked medium, but came out super rare. It had no seasoning whatsoever. It was inedible. The bigger steak had more flavor to it and was a lot better! The crabbed stuff shrimp was tasteless and freezerburnt. They gave us a complimentary birthday dessert. I order an old fashioned and if it arrives with a bunch of ice as opposed to a single large piece, they fail. Well unfortunately, this place failed. So I've been to this restaurant a couple of times before and it is usually not very populated likely because the food is mediocre at best. My friend, a Doctor in the area, is retiring and I was planning a retirement dinner with some other medical personnel. My wife and a couple of dear friends ate there last night, celebrating our 50th wedding anniversaries tpgether. I had made reservations for a quiet area so we could chat and catch up. They were happy to assist us in that request. The food was excellant. Every meal was more than we expected. The steak was cooked to perfection. The seafood dishes were also great with a large portions of food. The atmosphere made you relax. There was no loud music to drown out the conversations. We could actually hear each other when we spoke. On top of that our waiter" Brendon" was very proffesional and polite and was quick to be sure our drinks and needs were taken care of. Everytime I return to Fredericksburg for a visit, Old Towne is a must stop. Went there regularly when we lived there, starting in 1989 and since we left in 2020, we return on each visit. There is no bad meal as everything is so good. My favorite is Old Towne chicken and since I first tried it in 2000, I never have anything else. But, my wife and friends who dine with us have tried numerous other entrees and none disappoint. The ambiance is cozy and relaxing. Hyung and her husband couldn't be more welcoming on each visit. And after 41 years of ownership, they must be doing something right. For the best meal in Fredericksburg, Old Towne is where you need to go for dinner out. read more

I need to upgrade my rating of this restaurant. We have been there several times and they have consistently good food. Their signature dish is the Prime Rib which is fantastic, bring an appetite because their "lighter-fare 14oz" cut is huge and they get bigger from there. Also, they make their own blue cheese salad dressing and it is so good you can put it on a piece of bread and eat it. They also have a decent variety of lobster dishes, and their famous Crab Imperial. The only thing that is weird is the choice of music... kind of pop rock. The restaurant is definitely fine dining and a killer bar setup, but the music doesn't seem to match. Still not a reason for not trying this place. Mah date ordered the delmonico with fries and the fried shrimp to go on top and I opted to order the filet, no bacon with jumbo shrimp and baked potato. The shrimp were jumbo but had zero flavor, just like the filet. Pictures do the food justice. Less than desirable. Place was empty and for good reason. Adriana was pleasant as well as Robert. Hyon, the restaurant owner, is always front and center, checking on her patrons and making sure every person is happy. We visited on December 5th, celebrating my best friends birthday. The scallops were raw inside. The inside was cool to the touch, and you could see the difference in the cooked outside. I sent them back then they came back the the table burned. My wife had the crab bisque and crabcakes. Her soup had so much pesto in it you could not taste anything else. It's good the menu told us it was crab so that we knew. Again just iceberg lettuce. For both of us the crabcakes are the ideal recipe. Too bad hers was cold in the middle. This place cost us $120 before the tip. Food prices have increased significantly, and food quality has decreased to the point of absurdity. Our salads were literally lettuce only, soaked in dressing. When we questioned our waiter, he laughed and confirmed it was terrible. The seafood was overcooked (except for scallops which were delicious ). Steaks lacked flavor and were tough. The shrimp cocktail at $18 was served with ketchup. The atmosphere was dismal, dark and Christmas tree still up in July. And our waiter was unpolished, forgot drinks, sides and would disappear for long periods.
