I've been waiting a long time to experience Chef Daniel Perron's food. I first heard about his secret suppers, only to realize I'd missed my chance when they shut down. So when I heard about his new restaurant, Locavore, I knew I had to try it. I'd seen some mixed reviews, but honestly, that's expected with any new spot--it takes time to work out the kinks. After tonight's meal, though, I can confidently say: every kink has been worked out. What We Ordered The Working Man Sourdough Tartine Autumn Olive Farm Grilled Coppa Roseda Farm Flank Steak Coconut Milk Panna Cotta Drinks & Starter My boyfriend started with sparkling water while I ordered the Rocinante with Tito's. The brûléed pineapple syrup in my cocktail was such a thoughtful touch--sweet and balanced. To start, we shared The Working Man Sourdough Tartine, which set the tone for the rest of the meal. How can you go wrong with pepper jam, creamy cheese, and grilled fruit? Absolute heaven. The Meal Both the pork and the steak were showstoppers. Each cooked to melt-in-your-mouth perfection. The flank steak paired beautifully with the smoky charred eggplant purée--I kept stealing bites from my boyfriend's plate just to get more of it. The pork was elevated by a fig gochujang sauce so good I wished I could take home a jar. Dessert The Coconut Milk Panna Cotta was a dream. Every bite felt magical--the cardamom gently lingered and danced on my palate. A perfect finale. Service & Atmosphere Our server, Tyler, was fantastic--warm, attentive, and knowledgeable. If I had one small critique, it's that the music was a little too loud, making conversation a bit difficult at times. Overall, the experience exceeded every expectation. Locavore delivered the kind of meal you don't just eat--you remember.

We visited on a Sunday evening in September 2025 and were excited to try this restaurant after reading the chef/owner's history. We were promptly seated and greeted by our waitress, who was friendly. For a starter, we tried the Working Man Sourdough Tartine, which was tasty, especially with the sweet and spicy jam on top of the peaches. None of the entrees spoke to me, so I opted for the burger, which was sizable and juicy. My companion had the steak and reported it was okay, as it lacked flavor. Overall, we thought it was a good meal but prices were a bit elevated for the quality. This may have been due to how new the restaurant was, so we'll give it another try down the road and see if our experience improves.

The lukewarm pork plate. I don't see chicaronnes but maybe they were ground up.

First of all, my goal is not to pan the restaurant. It has the potential to have some of the tastiest food in Fredericksburg, but... there are some problems. We had reservations. When we came in, we asked if we could sit on the patio. The restaurant was pretty empty. It took an intense conversation to tell us we could only sit in the rooftop area to be outside but as we were walking, they said it had a different menu from Locavore. We came for the regular menu so we said we would just sit inside. They put us in the absolute worst table in the house - next to the kitchen, the bathroom and the stairs going up. We were constantly surrounded by people going in all directions. Because it was First Friday downtown, people were coming in the front door who were not eating in the restaurant just to use the bathroom - no one was mitigating that. At some point, there were like eight people lined up next to our table. It was so busy that my friend's hand was hit by a waitress who said sorry but never stopped to check on her. It actually hurt her hand. In a restaurant where every entree starts at $30, you don't expect to feel like you are eating in a bus station. The wait staff interupted us talking repeatedly. They never said excuse me or stood and waited. They just ran up and started talking over us. They tried to take my $17 drink before I even finished it. They tried to take our salad and our food before we finished it. Each time they said, "Can I take this for you?" and I would say, "When we finish it, you can." The food. We ordered the beet salad with ricotta and strawberries. It was outstanding. The flavors went so well together and there was an unexpected but very welcome bit of heat to each bite. Really good! I ordered the soft shell crab with what I remember seeing as "greens, ramps and remoulade." But in retrospect, it may have said baby greens. I am southern, from East Tennessee - we have a ramp festival. There were two tiny ramps on my plate. Two. The greens were not the kind that you pour vinegar on - they were the exact same Spring Mix I buy for $3.98 at Wegman's every week. I got ONE soft shell crab for $30. One. But, it was perfect. It was really delicious as was the remoulade. My friend ordered the pork chop, sweet potato salad, cabbage, chicaronnes and strawberry gochujang. Everything on her plate was lukewarm. She missed the part about "salad" in sweet potato salad. The pork chop was very fatty. We didn't see any chicaronnes. It was a miss and it cost more than my crab. My friend complained about the temp of the potatoes and the waiter said they would bring her another order. Then some cook person came out and basically humiliated her by saying it is supposed to be served at room temperature. No "I'm sorry for the misunderstanding." My point is, when you pay over $150 for two people to eat, you expect a nice restaurant where you can hear the other person (I love me some Lynyrd Skynyrd but I didn't need to have Free Bird blaring during a nice meal). You expect well-trained, unobtrusive staff. These were almost arrogant. You expect perfect or close to perfect food. I hope Locavore improves its service and puts a little more food on the plate so it will stick around. The chef really knows how to put flavors together in an interesting way. It was just way too uneven of an experience for me.

Trout was tasteful though an addition with farro or couscous with have help absorb the flavors of the sauce!

Great place for a date night! Food was light but filling with an excellent cab sav. Will definitely come back to try more dishes.

Entree of the fillet! Cooked to perfection!

What a great experience! Ordered the leak and potato soup which was absolutely on point! Presentation is 5 star! The entree was the filet minion. Tender and cooked to med rare, which some places just can't do. This chef clearly can! My server Cassidy was very attentive more than meeting my expectations as we watched their professional staff work hard and even their manager came over to check on service to us! This was my first time, and I will be back! What a cozy atmosphere with great drinks/wine/food and have their espresso after dinner! Everything was so fresh! I know they are new but this is a staple for a visit or local restaurant to head to... not just a date night place but all around great evening! Waiting for dessert and very excited.

    Burger and fries.

Tried Locavore for the first time and was impressed. Had the burger which was made from braised short ribs and it was filling and tasty. The toppings were appropriate for the dish but a little messy, and the hand cut fries as the side were crispy and hot, not overseasoned like some restaurants but otherwise not exceptional. Our server was friendly and the service was prompt. Limited selection of draft beer and there was no drink menu available other than on the full menu. No condiments were on the table, however the food was seasoned well and didn't need enhancement. I am looking forward to another visit to try some other of their offerings.

Swordfish and Squash Soup with Maple Granola and hazelnut oil.

Everything at Locavore was top shelf. The service was spot on and the food was impeccable. We had the Kalbi Beef Skewers with house pickles to start and that alone made the meal remarkable. You will crave these! They alone justify a second visit to this restaurant. The second appetizer was the Whipped Lardo with spicy pepper jelly and that was spectacular blend of flavors. We shared the swordfish and the squash soup for our main and the swordfish was the most perfectly cooked swordfish I've had in years, if not ever. We will definitely be back.

Fried chicken sandwich and biscuits and gravy

We are always looking out for a good farm to table restaurant and can't wait to come back here to see what changes the spring menu will have We came across this relatively recent addition to the Fredericksburg food scene. Today we had Sunday brunch. The fried chicken sandwich and chorizo sausage, gravy and biscuits were both excellent--well prepared, beautifully presented, and yummy take on southern comfort foods. The waiter was great--attentive but not bothersome. Can't wait to return.

Steak tacos were delicious (see pic). Menu said they had steak, cheesy scrambled eggs, tomato salsa, breakfast potatoes and cilantro. I didn't see or taste any potatoes, but the tacos were still delicious! I'd only recommend draining the salsa through a sieve because of the excess juice affecting the integrity of the tortilla. My husband's frittata was awful. The eggs were dry; he compared them to "eggs at the bottom of the warming tray at a cheap breakfast buffet." The chef also served a side salad alongside. My husband asked about subbing potatoes and Ms. Lashone made it happen. She was the star of our brunch: drinks were delicious, the conversational quips were quick and funny. She was attentive without being intrusive and made sure we felt welcomed and taken care of. 5 stars for her and my food; 1 for the frittata. I don't want to average it and tank the rating. Both were fantastic, though I wish the bar had mentioned the holiday cocktail menu earlier. I didn't learn about the festive drinks until we were seated and our server, Lindsay, walked us through the winter specials. The "Sweater Weather" cocktail sounded amazing (white tequila and coconut milk ) and is definitely something I'll be back to try. We stuck with our go-to appetizer, the goat cheese bruschetta, which was delicious as always. For entrées, we went classic brunch: the hangover burger and the shrimp and grits. My girlfriend loved her burger, and Sedona's shrimp and grits remain one of my absolute favorites--perfectly seasoned and cooked. Even though we were full, we couldn't pass up the seasonal dessert, tiramisu. It was the perfect size--just enough to share without pushing us over the edge. Lol. Another successful meal at Sedona! First, let's start off with the wait. I'm used to waiting for a table at Sedona especially on a Saturday, but today the wait was extra long. Once we sat and ordered appetizers it took over 40 minutes to get our apps. To make matters worse our nachos came out with the cheese not even melted and with barely any protein. Seeing as this was not the first time I ordered nachos I was extremely upset. To address the issue I had to leave my outside table and walk inside to the hostess to see if they could locate my server as she never came and checked on us. We didn't see her for over 50 minutes :-/ The only star of today's lunch were the Thai glazed wings. My husband ordered the land and sea and steak was overcooked. My devils pass pasta was okay, but extremely greasy. The manager did stop by to offer something for the nacho issue which we appreciated. Sedona you need to work on hiring more staff to make things run smoothly. You seem to be understaffed in the kitchen and on the floor. We left feeling extremely disappointed and will not be returning for a long time. Also forgot to add that the strawberry tres leches cake is extremely dense and flavorless. Did not enjoy and do not recommend.

Service: The first impression was a little mixed. The hostess wasn't very welcoming when we asked about a booth for our family of five (two adults and three younger kids) and didn't seem open to exploring the option. Thankfully, our server, DeQuandre (Deq?), completely turned that around. He was friendly, attentive, and offered great recommendations. We appreciated his visits as he was energetic and very hospitable, highly recommend asking for him when you visit. Food: We started with the buffalo dip. It comes with chips, but Deq was awesome and add some pita, which was a great call. The pita was slightly crisped (almost lightly fried) but still soft inside and paired perfectly with the dip, which had great flavor and good chunks of chicken. For burgers, we ordered the Spicy Wrangler (March 2026 Burger of the Month) and the Whiskey Burger. The Wrangler had a lot going on but the flavors worked well together. The Whiskey Burger was delicious, the sauce was a bit sweeter than I usually prefer, but the bacon was excellent. Only critique would be the burgers were slightly underdone even for medium, but still enjoyable. The onion rings were a standout, though the breading-to-onion ratio leaned a little heavy. The fries were decent but nothing particularly great about them. Atmosphere: Casual and open, but fairly loud. Even though it wasn't very busy for a Sunday lunch, the music and bar noise made it a little difficult at times to hear others at our table. I wouldn't consider this a date night type atmosphere, more casual open dining. Drinks: Solid beer selection with enough variety for most tastes, plus a small cocktail menu and a selection of wines. Overall: Harry's Downtown is a solid spot for a casual lunch or dinner. If you're in the mood for a good burger, or consider yourself a bit of a burger enthusiast, it's definitely worth checking out. This visit was positive enough to plan another visit to explore other delicious sounding menu items. We'll definitely be requesting Deq when we return! Thank you!

The sandwich definitely hit all the notes for comfort food: buttery sourdough bread, gooey cheese, and some added flavor from the onions. Given how milky burrata is, I think more onions or some added herbs could have punched up the flavor a bit, but overall I liked the sandwich a lot. The fries were very good as well, but again, could have used a bit more of the seasoning for which they were named. My lunch companion got the Chinese Chicken Salad, which he like as well, though he commented that it was a little on the dry side and could have used more dressing. (Perhaps the kitchen staff working our lunch had a light hand in general?) My small critiques are just that, though: small. It was a very nice meal in a charming space, and I suspect we'll make a point to eat there again on our next visit to the area.
