I've been waiting a long time to experience Chef Daniel Perron's food. I first heard about his secret suppers, only to realize I'd missed my chance when they shut down. So when I heard about his new restaurant, Locavore, I knew I had to try it. I'd seen some mixed reviews, but honestly, that's expected with any new spot--it takes time to work out the kinks. After tonight's meal, though, I can confidently say: every kink has been worked out. What We Ordered The Working Man Sourdough Tartine Autumn Olive Farm Grilled Coppa Roseda Farm Flank Steak Coconut Milk Panna Cotta Drinks & Starter My boyfriend started with sparkling water while I ordered the Rocinante with Tito's. The brûléed pineapple syrup in my cocktail was such a thoughtful touch--sweet and balanced. To start, we shared The Working Man Sourdough Tartine, which set the tone for the rest of the meal. How can you go wrong with pepper jam, creamy cheese, and grilled fruit? Absolute heaven. The Meal Both the pork and the steak were showstoppers. Each cooked to melt-in-your-mouth perfection. The flank steak paired beautifully with the smoky charred eggplant purée--I kept stealing bites from my boyfriend's plate just to get more of it. The pork was elevated by a fig gochujang sauce so good I wished I could take home a jar. Dessert The Coconut Milk Panna Cotta was a dream. Every bite felt magical--the cardamom gently lingered and danced on my palate. A perfect finale. Service & Atmosphere Our server, Tyler, was fantastic--warm, attentive, and knowledgeable. If I had one small critique, it's that the music was a little too loud, making conversation a bit difficult at times. Overall, the experience exceeded every expectation. Locavore delivered the kind of meal you don't just eat--you remember.

We came in as a family of 3 for brunch on a Saturday soon after they opened. The place is quaint and nicely setup/decorated. The brunch menu has a nice assortment of delicious items to choose from. They also have a full brunch cocktail list (Bloody Mary, Mimosa, etc). I was interested in a Bloody Mary, but service seemed to be a little amiss while we were there as the bartender wasn't there and the server wasn't able to tell us about the Bloody Mary (do they make their own mix, description, etc), so we just opted for water with brunch. The brunch items we got were all amazing! Their sausage gravy is made with chorizo, which adds a very nice, smokey touch to the typical biscuits and gravy and it came out with a pair of perfectly poached eggs. Their burger was beautiful and perfectly made and the beef was a very tasty, nice blend. The buns was incredible! Their fried chicken sandwich was excellent as well. Great batter, tender and moist chicken, and the toppings were great too. French fries were piping hot and flavorful too. So, the food was great, but the service was amiss. Would we return? Most definitely! I just mark up these services issues to having freshly opened for the day and maybe being a little short staffed. Hopefully the next visit would hit on all cylinders.

We visited on a Sunday evening in September 2025 and were excited to try this restaurant after reading the chef/owner's history. We were promptly seated and greeted by our waitress, who was friendly. For a starter, we tried the Working Man Sourdough Tartine, which was tasty, especially with the sweet and spicy jam on top of the peaches. None of the entrees spoke to me, so I opted for the burger, which was sizable and juicy. My companion had the steak and reported it was okay, as it lacked flavor. Overall, we thought it was a good meal but prices were a bit elevated for the quality. This may have been due to how new the restaurant was, so we'll give it another try down the road and see if our experience improves.

Trout was tasteful though an addition with farro or couscous with have help absorb the flavors of the sauce!

Great place for a date night! Food was light but filling with an excellent cab sav. Will definitely come back to try more dishes.

The lukewarm pork plate. I don't see chicaronnes but maybe they were ground up.

First of all, my goal is not to pan the restaurant. It has the potential to have some of the tastiest food in Fredericksburg, but... there are some problems. We had reservations. When we came in, we asked if we could sit on the patio. The restaurant was pretty empty. It took an intense conversation to tell us we could only sit in the rooftop area to be outside but as we were walking, they said it had a different menu from Locavore. We came for the regular menu so we said we would just sit inside. They put us in the absolute worst table in the house - next to the kitchen, the bathroom and the stairs going up. We were constantly surrounded by people going in all directions. Because it was First Friday downtown, people were coming in the front door who were not eating in the restaurant just to use the bathroom - no one was mitigating that. At some point, there were like eight people lined up next to our table. It was so busy that my friend's hand was hit by a waitress who said sorry but never stopped to check on her. It actually hurt her hand. In a restaurant where every entree starts at $30, you don't expect to feel like you are eating in a bus station. The wait staff interupted us talking repeatedly. They never said excuse me or stood and waited. They just ran up and started talking over us. They tried to take my $17 drink before I even finished it. They tried to take our salad and our food before we finished it. Each time they said, "Can I take this for you?" and I would say, "When we finish it, you can." The food. We ordered the beet salad with ricotta and strawberries. It was outstanding. The flavors went so well together and there was an unexpected but very welcome bit of heat to each bite. Really good! I ordered the soft shell crab with what I remember seeing as "greens, ramps and remoulade." But in retrospect, it may have said baby greens. I am southern, from East Tennessee - we have a ramp festival. There were two tiny ramps on my plate. Two. The greens were not the kind that you pour vinegar on - they were the exact same Spring Mix I buy for $3.98 at Wegman's every week. I got ONE soft shell crab for $30. One. But, it was perfect. It was really delicious as was the remoulade. My friend ordered the pork chop, sweet potato salad, cabbage, chicaronnes and strawberry gochujang. Everything on her plate was lukewarm. She missed the part about "salad" in sweet potato salad. The pork chop was very fatty. We didn't see any chicaronnes. It was a miss and it cost more than my crab. My friend complained about the temp of the potatoes and the waiter said they would bring her another order. Then some cook person came out and basically humiliated her by saying it is supposed to be served at room temperature. No "I'm sorry for the misunderstanding." My point is, when you pay over $150 for two people to eat, you expect a nice restaurant where you can hear the other person (I love me some Lynyrd Skynyrd but I didn't need to have Free Bird blaring during a nice meal). You expect well-trained, unobtrusive staff. These were almost arrogant. You expect perfect or close to perfect food. I hope Locavore improves its service and puts a little more food on the plate so it will stick around. The chef really knows how to put flavors together in an interesting way. It was just way too uneven of an experience for me.

Entree of the fillet! Cooked to perfection!

What a great experience! Ordered the leak and potato soup which was absolutely on point! Presentation is 5 star! The entree was the filet minion. Tender and cooked to med rare, which some places just can't do. This chef clearly can! My server Cassidy was very attentive more than meeting my expectations as we watched their professional staff work hard and even their manager came over to check on service to us! This was my first time, and I will be back! What a cozy atmosphere with great drinks/wine/food and have their espresso after dinner! Everything was so fresh! I know they are new but this is a staple for a visit or local restaurant to head to... not just a date night place but all around great evening! Waiting for dessert and very excited.

    Burger and fries.

Tried Locavore for the first time and was impressed. Had the burger which was made from braised short ribs and it was filling and tasty. The toppings were appropriate for the dish but a little messy, and the hand cut fries as the side were crispy and hot, not overseasoned like some restaurants but otherwise not exceptional. Our server was friendly and the service was prompt. Limited selection of draft beer and there was no drink menu available other than on the full menu. No condiments were on the table, however the food was seasoned well and didn't need enhancement. I am looking forward to another visit to try some other of their offerings.

Swordfish and Squash Soup with Maple Granola and hazelnut oil.

Everything at Locavore was top shelf. The service was spot on and the food was impeccable. We had the Kalbi Beef Skewers with house pickles to start and that alone made the meal remarkable. You will crave these! They alone justify a second visit to this restaurant. The second appetizer was the Whipped Lardo with spicy pepper jelly and that was spectacular blend of flavors. We shared the swordfish and the squash soup for our main and the swordfish was the most perfectly cooked swordfish I've had in years, if not ever. We will definitely be back.

Fried chicken sandwich and biscuits and gravy

We are always looking out for a good farm to table restaurant and can't wait to come back here to see what changes the spring menu will have We came across this relatively recent addition to the Fredericksburg food scene. Today we had Sunday brunch. The fried chicken sandwich and chorizo sausage, gravy and biscuits were both excellent--well prepared, beautifully presented, and yummy take on southern comfort foods. The waiter was great--attentive but not bothersome. Can't wait to return.

A friend hit me up for happy hour on a Saturday night, and shockingly, I was home from work early enough to actually make it happen. Even more shocking? We chose Cheeky's, and I couldn't have been happier. The last time I was here was back when it was Casey's and Cheeky's was just launching, so I was excited to see how it had evolved. From the moment I walked in, the vibe was giving elegant, cozy, and intimate. Soft lighting, relaxed energy--basically the kind of place that gently tells you to sit down, sip a cocktail, and forget about your responsibilities. My friends had already ordered and kindly let us sample their food. I can't remember exactly what it was (possibly drunken noodles? Possibly magic?), but whatever it was, it was delicious. Since we didn't want to copy their order, my boyfriend and I went with the duck fries, duck wings, and fried beef tips with rice. Let me start with the fries because...wow. Skinny fries tossed in garlic, what tasted like truffle, and cooked in duck fat. Honestly? Some of the best fries I've had in a long time. I would come back just for those. My boyfriend loved the duck wings, which were generously coated in mumbo sauce. A little too saucy for me (I prefer my wings slightly less...bathed), but the flavor was solid and the portion was more than fair. My fried beef tips were everything--perfect crunch, just the right amount of sauce, and packed with flavor. A true masterpiece that really showcased Asian-inspired cuisine at its best. I also ordered the hibiscus lemon drop, which was so good I considered ordering a second (and did). That said, it was a bit overpriced for the size--but still tasty enough to make me forgive it. Overall, Cheeky's is super chic, serves delicious cocktails, and delivers flavorful, creative food. If you're looking for a food adventure or something a little out of the norm, I 100% recommend stopping by for an evening. My only complaint? I still dream about the pork katsu sandwich they had back in the Casey's days--served with homemade wonton chips. I think about that sandwich more often than I'd like to admit. Please...bring it back.

Once you get up there, though, it feels like the kind of cool old place that's seen some things. You can almost feel the years rolling by, from Caribbean rum days to whiskey nights to the modern era of "smart cocktails," where they put things like herbs and intentions in your drink. The vibe was right. Cocktails were great--strong enough to matter, smooth enough not to apologize for. The food was excellent across the board, the kind that makes you stop talking for a minute so you can do some serious fork work. Most important, our waiter Shane was dead on the mark: there when you needed him, gone when you didn't, and never once tried to explain the menu like we'd just landed from Ohio for the first time. I can't find a single thing to complain about, which for me is almost a complaint in itself. Good value, good food, and a good scene--about all you can ask from an afternoon you're not spending at work. Next visit will be brunch, and I hope it's soon. My wife ordered a glass of Chardonnay and I ordered a Spicy Margarita. We shared an appetizer of Crispy Brussel Sprouts and bread rolls that came with a delicious oil and garlic dipping sauce. The main dining area was sparsely attended by other dinner patrons, with large windows to one side overlooking the river. For entrees, my wife selected the Roasted Beet Poke Bowl which she described as "light and refreshing" and I ordered the 16-oz Marinated Ribeye, cooked to Medium along with sides of mixed Seasonal Vegetables (sliced Zucchini & Squash) and Redskins Mashed potatoes with an order of mushrooms to go on top of the steak. I also ordered a nice glass of Merlot wine to go with it. The portions were generous, and the entrees perfectly prepared, and very tasty. If there was any fault at all, it was that the ribeye was a little too laden with a ring of fat rather than simply marbled, but otherwise no complaints. For dessert, I ordered a slice of Key Lime Pie and my wife ordered Crème Brûlée. Both were appealing to the eye and each bite beckoned us to take another bite. I looked through Yelp and picked F132 as our first meal in the new town. Great choice! We didn't have a reservation, and it was Friday at 6pm, so we were placed on the bar seating wait list. We were seated in 20-25 minutes, which was super fast and great with us. Lesson learned for next time, make a reservation. But, if you choose or wind up at the bar, the service is great and seating is comfortable. The bartender was with us quickly and walked us through the Happy Hour specials. Drinks, apps, etc. they had a good variety of things in HH and many seemed interesting. But we were there for steak, so we let him know and he took our orders. In the meantime, he got us waters and bread service. While we waited, we watched the bar staff make some amazing concoctions including smoked old fashioneds, and all manner of flavors, textures, and mixtures. I don't really do cocktails but there were egg whites, chocolate sauce, fruits, mints and great presentations. They also were serving HH food and the Happy Dog looked filling: the truffle fries were served in what looked like multi-pound platters. I had the filet with French onion soup and corn salad. My wife had filet with mashed potatoes and black eyed peas. The bartender explained sides change frequently and are selected by what is available farm fresh. The corn salad was a sort of chilled street corn with some peppers and stuff. Very good and the corn was so fresh. French onion soup was delish! Absolutely perfect. Black eyed peas were great. I didn't try the mashed potatoes. The steak was the star. I don't know what's in their house rub, but it's perfect. And the steaks are cooked under an 1800 degree broiler so they get that perfect sear. Both were cooked at the perfect temperature. And the meat was trimmed so there was nothing but butter-tender beef. Let me be clear-THIS IS THE BEST STEAK I'VE EVER HAD! The service was perfect. My glass never fell below 2/3 full, and we never were waiting on service, but it was non intrusive and really made the experience so much better. A++! Wherever you are reading this, stop what you are doing, and RUN, don't walk to Fahrenheit 132. You'll thank me later.
