Disappointment. I came here after reading all the great reviews, and I went with everyone's suggestion to get the shrimp poboy. My excitement quickly faded after I took my first bite. The ketchup overpowered everything else on the poboy. I'm disappointed that they didn't use a homemade sauce rather than slathering the whole thing in ketchup and mayonnaise. Since I didn't care for the sandwich as a whole, I decided to just eat the shrimp. They were a let down too. Not much flavor, and they weren't deveined. I almost decided to throw the whole thing away, but I didn't want to waste it. I instead brought it home to my dad because he'll eat anything. He wasn't impressed either. On a positive note, the workers are all super nice. I wish I could give them a better review. But sadly, my poboy was a waste of money. read more

Also, there was outdoor seating in a breezeway and in a back patio. I have been coming here since I was a small child. My grandmother swears the oyster poboys here are the best anywhere. I love the fried catfish and everyone who comes here will tell you they have the best shrimp poboys. Everyone is also friendly. It's very loud for lunch because it get extremely packed with a line out the door. It's always always worth the wait. It's a nice little treat when you just need some comfort. My spouse and I came here once pre-COVID, and couldn't wait to be back--and now, two years later, they still make the best dang po' boy I've probably ever had. Roast beef that'd bring a tear to a dead man's eye, and shrimp that I remember like a favorite song. Great decor--oldies Southern Americana, with classic road signs, old board menus, patina'd photograph, and a great seating area in back of the grocery that feels like a favorite dive bar. This is one of my favorite sandwich places EVER! Olde Tyme Grocery is Lafayette's best place to get po' boy sandwiches! They seem to have been around forever. When you still spell every word in your business with unnecessary vowels... This place is so much fun! I got the shrimp po'boy with Zapp's potato chips- a combination that's just meant to go together. Their french rolls are flaky crisp and delicious. The sandwich is just packed with shrimp, lettuce and tomato so you get some in each bite. They have lesser known more local hot sauce instead of the big stereotypical brand of hot sauce. You can eat inside, where they have the walls covered with bling from around Acadiana. Old road signs and posters make it look like they've been here forever. Be sure to check out the po'boy mosaic on the floor when coming in! You can also eat on the patio, which has umbrellas in the shade on a brick courtyard. What a great place! They also sell beer- you gotta drink Abita if you're drinking here. The staff was friendly and enthusiastic when they found we had been driving for hours to get one of their sandwiches. My coworker and I were headed back home from a work trip and needed to stop to grab a bite to eat in Lafayette. I found this from Google and we decided to try it based on them having so many good reviews. We both were really impressed. I had the fully dressed turkey poboy, gravy on the side. It was way more meat that I was expecting, and I couldn't eat it all at once. The gravy was legit. It wasn't too salty, which most restaurant's gravy's are. The young girl at the counter was quite vivacious and energic. All of the employees were very nice. The food also came out really fast. And the fries were delish. Ate here at the recommendation of one of my customers on a recent business trip to Lafayette. I was lamenting how I really really wanted a good po'boy, but it was so hard to know where to go. This place was billed as having 'the best fried shrimp po-boys in town', so I convinced my co-worker to go with me. We were not disappointed! She ordered the fried oyster po'boy, I got the shrimp, and we shared an order of potato wedges, plus each had a local beer. The sandwiches were very large, even though we each ordered halves, and they were full of fried seafood plus lettuce, tomato, ketchup/cocktail sauce and mayo. We were both totally stuffed. Food was well prepared, well seasoned and we felt was great value. The place is also super cute - very 'small town' with local flavor, local kids working the kitchen, and a dining room full of local people and families. There's also a cute outside eating area if the weather is good (it was raining the night we visited). Quick note - it is not very large and basically has the look of a corner grocery, so watch for it as you go down St. Mary Blvd. Parking is also limited, and there are no sidewalks in the area, and the street is busy. I remember eating at this place a lot as a child. I remembered it as the best poboy I've ever eaten. I tried it again years later when I went to Laffy, and was not as impressed as I used to be. The shrimp were okay, most of them were not deveined and that is a big no no for me. All I kept tasting was the gritty shrimp, and I couldn't finish it without taking the shrimp out. The bread was decent. I have definitely tasted better around town. It was a good sandwich once I took the shrimp off. I guess my pallet has just evolved over the years. Open since 1982, I can see why many people like this place. Their po-boys are just like you would find in new orleans. Bread is light and airy. I ordered the half-and-half, french fries and a barq's. Everything was delicious, I only wish I was more hungry when I arrived, because I couldn't eat it all. I was looking for some seafood that is close from work and luck out and found this place on yelp. I got the shrimp poboy with mayo, lettuce, tomatoes and extra ketchup. The shrimp is plump and fried and season just right. The only thing would make this shrimp poboy any tastier would be to have Tabasco sauce. There is no indoor settings but plenty of backyard seating. The staffs are very friendly. Next to the main building is a snowball stand. Omg...I was craving stuff snowball for a while now and it was just perfect that I can grab a poboy and a snowball in one place!
