Really enjoyed every meal here. Sunday BBQ is the best and we get lots in the box. Weekday plate lunches are so delicious that sometimes they actually run out of things like shrimp étouffée. When you walk in to a restaurant, and a lady looks at you from behind a counter and tells you to go in the back and have a seat......is not a good start. So we went to the back to have a seat.....waitress comes out from the back, glances at us and walks to another table.....visits with them, goes to another table, waits on them then goes to the back. Doesn't come to see about us. She comes out goes to the same two tables, again does not come to us......goes in the back again.....later comes out and goes to a different table, then goes in the back again. I tell the wife, if she comes out one more time and doesn't come over here I'm leaving. After quite some time she comes out waits on the table next to us....then finally stops by our table....we were there for crawfish. It took over an hour before we were served.....pitiful customer service.....restaurants need to make sure their servers understand one thing.....we need customers to survive, so TAKE CARE of them......high priority for a waiter.....TAKE CARE of our customers......sad most waiters don't really care...they're there for a paycheck, and not a very good one.....to them if the restaurant closes they will just go get another job....in the meantime the owner is suffering..... read more

Crawfish etouffee is a dish I rarely order in restaurants since I have a family recipe that's hard to beat. Don't believe me? Ask anyone who has ever tried mine. This changed on a recent visit to Dwight's. I was prepared to order something else but just looking at their etouffee, I knew I had to try it. I'm so glad I did. First, the portion is huge (see photo) AND it comes with two sides. I don't know exactly how they are making their etouffee here but it is just amazing. It's seasoned perfectly and full of crawfish. I didn't have to add hot sauce to the dish, and normally I do to spice it up. So happy to have found a place that's not afraid to use spices liberally! As for the sides, I got smothered cabbage which was a little too sweet for my liking and green beans which were cooked down and buttery. They also gave me a jalapeño corn bread biscuit which was delicious. Dwight's is the kind of place that has tables with holes in the middle for easy disposal of crawfish/shrimp/crab shells. My husband and I stopped here on our way back home on Sunday. I was confused after reading the comments and actually eating the food. They served BBQ on this day. It was cafeteria style where you went up to the counter and told them what you wanted on your plate. We had chicken, brisket, rice and potato salad. My husband said that the chicken was okay and the rice. The brisket for me was stringy and not very tender or seasoned. The potato salad was too oily. It didn't have any eggs, relish or celery in it. I liked the house seasoning, perhaps you should use that on the potato salad. Just disappointing. We also had the bread pudding with white sauce. The was the best item that we tasted. read more

Dwight's is a well known Lafayette restaurant that currently has a 4 star average. It has an above average reputation with its BBQ even having a Sunday lunch event featuring their BBQ which I understand is quite popular. While driving through the area the week before Christmas I was able to stop by for lunch on a Wednesday where they feature their BBQ chicken. Walking in, I noticed that they have a buffet line service which included the chicken along with other mouth watering lunch options but I asked for the chicken (which is a 1/4 and I went with dark meat) with sides of bbq beans and green beans and some dirt rice. Paying and grabbing my tray, I stopped by the self serve drink station and easily found an empty table. They weren't busy that day and this is a large restaurant with 3-4 large rooms with tables. I thought the chicken was good. The leg/thigh was average in size and reasonably moist. The taste was ok but I have had many better. Not bad mind you just not up to my expectations of this place. The sides were good too with my fave being the green beans. While the meal was acceptable I could go no higher than a 3. I have a feeling that their Cajun dishes might be better and that this might actually be a 4 restaurant but I have to report about my experience. I would be happy to return and try one of those Cajun dishes or perhaps another BBQ meat like brisket. The pork roast over gravy looked good the day I was there but I didn't eat it so perhaps next time. read more

Hoooo boy this place is good. Down home options served cafeteria style for your pleasure. Pick a main dish like steak or étouffée. The étouffée is somewhat their signature dish and is also my favorite Louisiana dish. And it does not disappoint. Spicy and savory. They have plenty of sides to choose, all cooked like your grandma used to. They also have fresh peach cobbler and bread pudding to finish off your meal right. Came here for lunch during a one-hour lunch break. I was pleasantly surprised by a delicious lunch ! It's lunch plates for lunch, served cafeteria style. The menu is online of what they serve daily, and it varies. If you want to try more than one thing, you can ask for half half. This is exactly what I did. I couldn't decide between crawfish etoufee or fried fish, so I got half of both! You can pick two sides, and I picked Mac n cheese and green beans. Lastly, you could choose a roll or cornbread muffin. SO much food. But it was all delicious. The Mac and cheese was creamy, not too cheesy. The green beans are nothing to write home about. But the crawfish etoufee was amazing. The fried fish was good, but if you want your fish to be more flaky, this isn't the fish for you. It has more crunch than fish.
