Quick and easy. Greasy, filling, lots of snacks and drinks inside too. I had their "meat" salad with turkey. There was a ton of lettuce they used for the salad, which was appreciated since it was pretty filling. You order at the counter, then pay. The place is cute and nostalgic and waitstaff is fairly friendly. We took a big detour to get a shrimp poboy and it was ok. The bread was not a true French bread. The shrimp were plentiful and hot. But, the poboy had zero flavor or soul. I expected a soulful shrimp poboy with character and spices. I expected a fabulous sauce, spice, a bit of something! Best poboy I have ever had. It is a simple sandwich but what really stood out to me was how good the ingredients and how well they were fried plus how perfect the bread was. My only regret was not getting two sandwiches since I was just passing through and got it to go. Staff were friendly, there is ample seating both inside and outside as well. Came to try out this restaurant which is also a grocery store while visiting the area. Plenty of parking around. The interior is old fashioned. Pretty busy and had a line wrapped around the grocery store area, perfect chance to grab chips and drinks while waiting to order at the counter. Got the Half and Half po-boys with shrimp and catfish. Good portion for the price, and definitely the best po-boys I've had. The baguette was soft and airy on the inside and crunchy on the outside, the fried shrimp and catfish was juicy, fried to perfection and seasoned well. Simple, good eats. We ordered the roast beef and sausage half sandwiches and they were plenty big. We shared a bag of Zapp's chips. A shout out to the staff because I was "that" customer. Visited here for the first time yesterday. It's a cute little sandwich shop with some fun grocery items as well. I ordered a shrimp poboy and the old tyme special sandwich. I also ordered a side of fries. The sandwiches were pretty good but didnt blow my mind. This is my first time having a poboy so i dont know if its what its supposed to be or not. I thought the sandwiches were huge and well priced. The fries were potato wedges. I wasnt able to eat many of the fries fresh and when i went back to them the next day they werent good, so def eat those fresh. The people that worked there seemed friendly, didnt have a lot of interaction with them. I got a few bags of fun LA flavored potato chips as well that I'm excited to try out. This was the best little find! We needed a quick bite before heading to a wedding because well, you aren't really sure how good wedding food is gonna be no matter how good the blissful couple's intentions are!! Id done my research so i knew a whole would be plenty for he and I. We arrive and its the cutest little spot. It was mid Monday afternoon and parking was easy but definitely limited around the shop itself but plenty of street parking in surrounding area and its near a college/university as well. Walking the shop they have EVERYTHING you could want with your sandwich from bottled can drinks both non and alcoholic and snacks GALORE! One thing I had been doing is collecting little LA specific goodies as we visited different gas stations or stores in our time in Lafayette. They had fried hand pies and ginger cakes. Those were dessert for what was one of THE best po boys Ive ever had! The shrimp were plentiful, plump, perfectly cooked and seasoned to perfection. The bread was soft and the toppings fresh! Maybe a lil creole mustard would have taken it up a notch but it was solid and a LOT of sandwich for the price! We added a bag of Doritos cook ranch and some drinks and life was swell! Definitely if you want to try a po boy this is a solid spot. They have a fried catfish po boy they only offer on Fridays we would have loved that one, especially if the batter is the same as what it was for the fish. It has been too many years since I got to feast on an old Tyme grocery poboy. Everything is outstanding. If you love a hole in the wall, this little grocery style deli is Lafayette perfection. Order at the meat case and grab a fountain beverage or something from the cooler. My personal faves are the fried shrimp and ham and cheese. They are served hot. Anything fried is fresh out the grease, cooked to order. Seasonally, the fried crawfish poboy is also a winner. The poboys are THICK and that Langlinais bread is perfect-crisp enough but not messy and not too bread heavy. They are heavy on the meat and reheat well in an air fryer. Potato wedges were also better than I remembered. Tony's and ketchup on the table were the perfect compliment and they also reheated great in the air fryer. Food was very good. I got the meatball poboy, my husband got the turkey, and my toddlers split the kids chicken plate. Portion sizes are generous. My husband and I were both full after eating half poboys, even without chips. The fries are wedges and pretty decent, but I can imagine they'd be great with some Tony's (available at the table), but couldn't really try it since my girls aren't big on spicy and I was snagging their fries for a taste. Staff was very friendly and patient as we made our selections. They gave our two daughters stickers while we ordered. We ate around 3:00, so the dining room was pretty empty, but there was a continual stream of pickup orders which is another good sign. We arrived shortly after the 11:00 opening and there was already a line to place our order. There is a line to order then another line to pay for your meal before finding a seat in the room next to the counter. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. I went for the weekly poboy special for Wednesday- sausage poboy for $8. Well, you get what you pay for. The sausage was not even warm and it lacked any kind of flavor.I also ordered a side of French fries. I got lots of fries. However, they were less than warm...same temperature as the ketchup on the table. We ate there, but will not be back for a very long time. Their sizes are great and the bread is baked locally and delicious. The restaurant has an old time vibe from how you order to how you pay and then pick up your food. Man, what a cozy atmosphere that really gives off that college campus vibe. The staff was super friendly, and the food was brought out really quick without sacrificing quality. The sandwich had great ratios, not letting the bread or shrimp get soggy. I went with the large Shrimp Po' Boy with a bag of chips and it was way more than enough to fill me up (good thing I was starving)! If this were in the Nawlins of Nawlins then it'd be good but not one of the best. In Lafayette, it's one of the best sandwiches you can get - in fact it's perfect. So here you have what is essentially one of the very best sandwiches we've had in a while, especially outside New Orleans (which has some f**king good sandwiches). All the food they make here is excellent. They should be highly commended for their products. Then the wait time is not too bad and the decor is amazing and very local and extensive. There's lots to explore, and it'll take you awhile to check the whole place out, which is good because the sandwiches can take awhile. It looks like they've been decorating this place for years and years and we absolutely love it. I will definitely be back here on many occasions in the future. Definitely my go to po-boy spot in Lafayette. Parking is available in their lot across the street; it can be busy as it's really close to the UL campus. The interior is as expected, old fashioned and with a full "gas station mart". There's no service, it's order and get your food and sit down and eat. Their po-boys are decent sized and delicious. I like their shrimp or oyster option. Their food is around the $10-15 range, and sides are less than $5. First off this place is adorable. Tiny little classic deli with a lovely patio area and a nice little trio of music on the day we were there. Perfect temp to sit outside and admire the "old thyme-iness" of it. Oyster po boys were okay special of the day with catfish was good and salad with shrimp offered quite a few grilled shrimp. Such a cute market/restaurant in Lafayette! Located oh so close to campus so always filled with college students. Easy to walk to and if not, there's a huge parking lot in the back. They have outdoor seating with a courtyard-like feel to it, in addition to indoor seating. If you want food, you get in line to order over on the market side, then you get into a different line to pay. Stand over to the side until they call your order. Seat yourself. This is definitely a pretty efficient way of doing things since it gets insanely crowded. But the line moves fast! The market is great! All the snacks and drinks you could possibly crave. As far as their poboys, which is the main reason I came. I was pretty excited to try Olde Tyme since I'd heard such great things. I got their oyster poboy (~$17 for a whole, price varies depending on market price) and was very unimpressed. The bread got soggy pretty fast (I ate it within 5 minutes of receiving it), I felt like it was lacking in oysters, and the taste was a little off so I couldn't finish it, which is a shame since I love oysters. I also didn't think their poboys were that large, as other reviewers mention. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't terrible, but nothing for me to rave about. Overall, I'd definitely recommend checking out Olde Tyme. It's a great hangout spot. It's the perfect location if you're close to campus.
