Ole's doesn't accept ID's from other states so they won't let you in if you don't have a California ID! This is definitely a plus because it weeds out some of the marines that want to come in there for keeping the bar for the locals which is cool because I always see a handful of friends every visit. Ole's is one corner of The Triangle the other 2 corners being Red Fox & Goodies Ole's definitely is the better part of The Triangle for many reasons. This is a small kinda dive bar that has good vibes a great selection of liquor and bottled beers. They have 2 pool tables enough TV's that you can watch whatever game is on and a good amount of seating for the size of the place. The staff has always been cool every time I've been here and the drinks have always been good. They offer free pizza sometimes and free tacos on Tuesdays with purchase of drinks which is definitely a plus because their drinks aren't that expensive. The parking isn't super good here but hey that's downtown SC for ya my advice is to find somewhere on the street either on Victoria or El Camino. This is definitely one of the best bars in San Clemente to have good drinks and run into old friends in the Clem! We will be returning here soon for drinks and pool! read more

REFUSED ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY because they weren't California residents. Don't get me wrong, this is a crap establishment to begin with but to refuse legal state ID's and military ID's is completely ridiculous. In addition to the refusal, they discriminated based on sex. They allowed me to enter with a Florida ID but not my husband or friend who are both active duty Marine Corps with a military ID as well as state ID's. This was also all done by a guy who insisted he was an active duty staff sergeant in the Marine Corps. Way to serve your brothers big guy...I'm glad you work for an establishment that discriminates. I've posted pictures of the ABC liquor laws as well as the gentlemen who allowed my entry but refused my husband. An update: a note was just sent to me saying we were denied service because we caused a scene. That is completely false. I was allowed in and my husband was denied entry at the door based on his ID before saying a word to anyone. Never seen a bar that doesn't accept any "out state Ids". Literally no one from out of state can ever get a drink at this bar! I'm from California and came here with two buddies from out of state who are officers in the Marine Corps; we're all 27 and had two valid forms of identification to prove we're older than 21. The bars goodys and dukes are better anyways. Don't go to this place!!! This owner is clearly delusional and has no idea how to train his employees to read a valid id or even a valid military id. read more

After a rather scary and disturbing experience at Goody's across the street, we left and while I really wanted to take a shower to disinfect from the aroma of vomit at the previous place, we kept the party going. Luckily, Ole's was across the street. The atmosphere was more subdued and had your 20-30 somethings here too, but with a much less raucous energy. Flat screens playing sports, people sitting on bar stools and bar tables (with cushy banquettes and pillows) and people playing at pool tables ruled the show here. Tables were plentiful and the mood was free-spirited and fun. It definitely struck me as a locals crowd in a neighborhoody low-maintenance youngish setting. In fact the bartender stopped serving this guy who was falling all over himself and fell asleep on the bar counter, but later started serving him again when he confessed (shortly before being thrown out), that his mother had just died that day. The lady bartender quickly prepped whiskey shots for them both. Now that's service! Our party enjoyed some cheap drafts by the glass and called it a night. Aside from our gratitude for finding a halfway decent place after the previous bar, we found Ole's to be just average. read more

YOU CANNOT get into this bar without an in state California I.D. and be careful the bouncer makes ignorant comments when you walk past the place. I just moved to San Clemente a couple of weeks ago and I don't know a soul. Last night, I decided to be brave (plus, I had just returned from having dinner with friends in Costa Mesa and my martini was still giving me courage), so I went to this bar by all by myself. I've never done that before but I was bored and really wanted to meet some people in my new city. I picked this place because it was the first place I saw that actually had people inside (it was a Wednesday, after all). Ummm...let's just say this may not have been the best place for me to go. I ventured in and found it to be a typical dive bar with neon signs, a jukebox and a pool table. I walked up to the bar to order a drink and the (female) bartender would not even acknowledge me. Granted, everyone in there had full-sleeve tattoos, piercings, and clothes with lame 80's death metal logos on them (i.e. Slayer), and having just returned from dinner, I was in jeans, a pretty gray sweater that had sparkly silver threads running through it, and heels. Plus, my only piercings are in my ears and my one tattoo is this god-awful dolphin on my ankle that I got as a rebellious 17-year-old and am planning to have removed. Needless to say, I stuck out like a sore thumb. I waited for a few minutes then finally became impatient and asked the guy sitting next to me if there was a trick to ordering a drink in this place. He looked at me like I was speaking another language but then called the bartender over and she graciously let me order. Trying to make the best of the situation, I struck up a conversation with the guy next to me who had assisted me in my quest for a beverage. He was a musician and turned out to be pretty nice actually. He confirmed my suspicion that I did not fit in there, but my "street cred" went up immensely when I mentioned that I used to date the guitarist of a famous punk band (you guys don't need to know who). I met a few other people who were pretty nice for the most part. Unfortunately, I didn't have much in common with anyone. I stayed for a little while longer, then packed up and headed home. My little adventure alleviated my boredom, but I didn't meet anyone I would hang out with again. And as far as the bar goes, if you're a tatted, pierced person who wears safety pins everywhere, this place is for you. If you're not, well, you'll probably feel about as cool as I did. read more

My friend and I were looking for a local bar that was showing sunday football. We stopped at Ole's and the atmosphere is good. We were about to leave to go get lunch and BAM! Turns out for football they serve free food. Not just junk either, they had chicken and ribs today and they were awesome. I've been coming to Ole's on a semi-regular basis during the last few football seasons because they are known as one of the few south county Green Bay Packer bars, and every time I tend have a good time. Staff is always friendly and the place has a 'good neighbor' vibe about it. Each time I've gone, I've ended up meeting someone new to chat with while watching the game. Parking can be a bit tricky as it's on PCH and the nearby public lots are either small or non-existent. Plan on parking on the street, usually behind the bar or a block or so away during games and other peak times. While Ole's lacks a kitchen, they generally always have one of the local restaurants provide finger foods and snacks gratis for their patrons. On Sunday morning games, I often seen fresh fruit, cheese & crackers, muffins and other pastries. Other times they've brought in pizza, or set up a grill outside and make brats. There's always peanuts that you can toss the shells on the ground and a popcorn machine. And if none of these suit you, there are plenty of places nearby that Ole's will allow you to bring food in. There's a few pool tables in the back, plenty of flat screens on all walls, and historic San Clemente pictures adorn the walls. The large, front bay style window is open during the day and there are some nice size booth/tables with couch like backs and pillow sized cushions for your comfort. It's not a dive bar by any means, but more casual and laid back flavor. One of the great deals is their signature pint sized Bloody Mary's with a 7oz beer back. You can't go wrong with that deal as it's probably one of the most reasonably afforded one's around. Even if you aren't a Packer fan, no issue as I've seen plenty of Jersey's from rival teams and everyone seems to get along just fine...actually I'd say most of the patrons probably know each other read more

Like "Gar L." said in the reviews section STAY AWAY FROM THIS BAR. I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH. READ THIS REVIEW. Why? 1. If you're not a local (I.E. not from the surrounding 1 mile strip of land) good-luck getting in. I ALSO had an out of state drivers license (Arkansas) and wasn't let in on THAT aspect. So I showed the Mil-ID, still no dice. It took my buddy (Who IS from CA to show his ID to barely get inside, he also has a Mil-ID) to talk to the bouncer (who also wore those silly gloves) to let us in on the condition of it being one time only (ONLY because of our station in the Marine Corps, IE..Not enlisted). 2. The beer . Never tasted such an un-American beer! I mainly know for a FACT it was because I paid for a beer that wasn't even genuinely "welcoming" to me . NEVER in my years of traveling have I ran across a bar like this that blurs the lines of the law in order to prevent certain groups of people into its confines. If you ask me I'm happy I never will go back (not that they'd blush an eye). I've told at least twenty others about this place and have heard of such places (but never seen them). 3. Not a very interesting interior. The staff looked pretty shifty to me to begin with (Insert bouncer guy with the gloves afte we enter). The bar tender woman was nice (the only thing nice about the place so far). If you have seen the inside of the old show "cheers" it sort of has that "I'm back in my bro's garage" feel. 4. I honestly thought that by being there I was unwelcome (and I was). SURRREEE the sign at the door says all kinds of "No out of state IDs etc..etc" ....BUT who HONESTLY stops at the door and reads every little notice when strolling in and out of bars? (Don't say YOU do, because we all know you don't right!!?) 5. Packers suck. End of story. So I brought my business across the street.. Granted were all entitled to run a business the way we want if we own it and follow the laws of the land...But seriously? ? This review should serve as a testament to what it REALLY is. read more

I've partied here for about 6 years. I love the small, local feel, where you walk in and everybody knows your name... It is a completely different scene every time I go but you will still have your regulars. I love picking some tunes on their jut-box. And drinking a Budlight or the occasional Jäger shot. I stopped in today for the first time for Sunday football (Go Broncos!). I really enjoyed the scene and vibe. With purchase of alcohol, you have free-range of their buffet, along with too many TV's to count. So you know you'll be able to watch your game regardless. Well done Ole's. Don't go to this bar, they treat you differently if you are in the military. They reject me all the time for being in the military. The rules that I understand is if you don't have a California I.D can't get it and if you're a marine you can't get in.
