Olga's... just saying the name brings feeling of sweet nostalgia having grown up enjoying your delicious cuisine in Michigan, primarily at your Birmingham location back in the day... I love the history of this brand and that it has been going strong since the mid-1960's, well before my time! I wish I would have had the opportunity to meet Olga herself, as I'm sure she was quite an impressive woman. The original Olga is incredible, from the gyro meat to the pita bread, tomatoes, tzaziki, and everything in between... yes, please! Pair it with a fresh Greek salad and/or some curly fries and thank me later! On a recent visit to the area, my Dad was craving Olga's so we went to this location to pick it up for him. We called ahead and the staff was not the easiest to work with, but that's okay. Sadly, my salad had a few bad pieces of lettuce and they forgot to give me my pita bread -- and we didn't realize this until later when we brought the food to my dad. I would take off a star or two for this but can't bring myself to do it because I love this brand so much. I ordered carry out tonight. Nothing crazy. It was an original Olga, no tomatoes, extra onion, sauce on the side. I was told 25 minutes. Fine. When my food came out, there was sauce on the sandwich. I asked for it to be remade. They said fine. I waited patiently. 10 minutes, it's coming. 15 minutes, it's coming. 20 minutes, it's ready. They nice young man at the counter goes back and I can hear the kitchen say they don't know where it is, and they'll remake it. At that point, I'd just like my money back and I'll get dinner elsewhere. It took 2 minutes between when I heard that and when my sandwich came out. This is not a hard order. They are not cooking anything to order for me. The manager never came out. The nice young man was apologetic and I don't blame him. The fact that I had to wait over 20 minutes for them to redo my original Olga without sauce is unacceptable. I will not be returning. read more

I have always LOVED Olga's, but this location needs to do better. Upon arrival, with a "wait to be seated" sign, we stood there for quite some time, as we stood there, we noticed that almost every table in the restaurant was dirty, when we were finally greeted, the hostess was rude and put out that we were there. With a heavy sigh she led us past the uncleared tables to the far corner of the seating area. She threw the menus on the table and someone will be with you, and walked away. There were only two other tables seated at this time, as we sat there, we seen the servers attending the other two tables, we kept thinking were next. Nope we waited for over 15 minutes without any acknowledgement, not even a simple glass of water was brought to our table. We left and I will never return. It is clear they need to figure some stuff out. Gave it a 1 star only because I had to select something, but it deserves an negative 10. read more

I visited the Olga's in Troy MI recently. I called in my order and was answered by AI. For some reason, I was transferred to an agent that was from a call center in an unknown location. I asked to pick up my order at a certain time, and the agent asked if I could come five minutes later. I agreed. I got to the restaurant. My food was not ready and I had to wait an additional 15 minutes. The restaurant was dirty. The door leading to the kitchen was filthy. My french fries were ice cold and I did not receive the sandwich I ordered. I will never go to this location again! read more

I am giving this place a 3.5. We had to carry in, which is not always my favorite option, so it does effect the food freshness. I also usually frequent the Royal Oak- Woodward Ave location more when it comes to dining in an Olga's. I like their dinning concept a little more, being more fast casual than sit-down and being served entirely by wait staff. I have been to this location in the past as a sit down, it is best when Olga's offers an all-you-can-eat soup and snackers special, since their cream of broccoli soup is the best! It was an adventure getting someone on the phone from this location, I did not know but they use a call center for many of the locations. I am not sure if this call center takes orders for different restaurants, but my rep did use the name of a different business at some point. I was able to speak to people at this location and they were very pleasant. (The CSR over the phone was also pleasant). Once we picked up the food, they did not put the entire order the bag. I typically check the bags before I leave, luckily we did so this time, we had to go back in and get the rest of the food. The snackers were very good, they came with the famous cheese, this travels very well! The soup was good, as always. I had the Angus burger, it was a bit rare on the inside but tasted good. I did put mine and the fries in the over the crisp them up again. I love the garlic aioli here. We got the original without sauce and veggies, and they did get the order correct. I also tried the cranberry lemonade. It was good, not great, I found a couple other places that serve amazing flavored lemonade, but this one was not too pricey, so worth trying if you enjoy this kind of drink. My husband was not impressed with the spinach pie. It had more of a cottage cheese/mild flavor as opposed to heartier feta taste. It was still good, but not quite how we remembered it. The bread it top notch, worth getting the bread for later some time in a future order. I am not sure if any corporate entity or management looks at these comments, but they should look into the Goldbelly website that sends/sells/ delivers local food all over the country. There are many former MI residents who crave Olga's, especially the bread. They should see if they can partner up with this company and expand. Just a though, and an idea. read more

Olga's Kitchen is a Greek based restaurant found primarily in Michigan. Popular dishes include Grilled Chicken Shawarma, Hand Carved Beef and Lamb and of course a variety of the Olga Sandwiches (gyros). We like to order something called the Perfect Pair. That's half an Olga and two sides. So an Olga is just a gyro you wonder? Yes, very similar, but, there are many different Olga's to choose from, 3 Cheese Veggie, Grilled Chicken and Oven Roasted Turkey... just to name a few. I've had most things on the menu and don't regret a single one. For me this whole meal hinges on a triumph they call peasant soup. A wonderful union of lamb, peas, carrots, onions, zucchini, tomato, etc. It's based in a vegetable broth and wicked addicting spices. I also want you to experience the White Bean Chicken Chili. Be careful! They also have an assortment of what are called Olga's snackers. These are basically a baked pita triangle with a variety of seasonings. I recommend the cheesy marinara dip or the spinach/feta dip and of course, the famous hummus dip. I couldn't and wouldn't describe all the great things on this menu in this short article. I had just spent the day thrift shopping with some friends I needed to mail an envelope ASAP. When I Googled post office I went to the one closest to me and then I was ready to eat dinner. When I yelped local restaurants Olga's popped up and was right there in the center that I was already in so I decided just to eat here. I had passed a few of those on my trip and knew that they were well thought of. I'm always up for soup and their peasant soup sounded good so I got a bowl of the peasant soup and a spinach pie. I also qualified for a free dessert with my Yelp check-in. The soup was absolutely delicious, I loved it, it was perfect. The spinach pie, as I noted under my photo, was one of the lightest crispiest phyllo pastry I have had in ages. Too often they are just soggy. Unfortunately, the snackers didn't really impress me. Just not my thing. I love grilled pita bread so I'm not sure why they didn't impress me. The waitress gave me a choice of three desserts I think, bread pudding which I'm not a big fan of, sweet Snackers, and one other, can't remember, maybe ice cream. I chose the sweet Snackers because I love Mexican bunuelos and I thought maybe they would be like that. They were okay, but again didn't impress me greatly. I wouldn't have wanted to spend $3- $4 on them. My waitress might have been a little on the slow side but since I wasn't in a hurry it didn't really matter. All in all it was a good meal. Unfortunately, a few weeks later I didn't have nearly as good an experience that the Olga's at Laurel Park Mall. You'd have to read my review to see why. read more

I remember Olga's from when it was one little stand/restaurant in Birmingham, run by Olga herself, so I'm quite familiar with the chain. Olga's has undergone many, many changes over the years. Gone are the muffins that I loved buying day-old, and the unlimited Olga salad seems to have been discontinued as well. And, I was sad to see that the seasoning baskets were no longer on the table, although they do have the garlic & cayenne if you ask for them. I was seated right away, but, despite the hostess saying she'd have someone come right over, it was quite a few minutes. But, once the server came, she was very pleasant. I ordered my old standard, the original Olga combo meal, which comes with a small salad & curly fries for $8.99. The salad came out quickly, but it was very disappointing: semi-wilted lettuce with too much non-descript dressing, 2 grape tomatoes and an olive. The sandwich and fries came quickly afterward, but I got the distinct feeling that it had been sitting for a while, as it was barely lukewarm. When my server walked by, I asked it was possible for it to be heated up a bit. She said "of course", but she disappeared (to be fair, her hands were full) and didn't take my plate. A couple minutes later, she told me they were remaking the sandwich & fries for me, and it came a couple minutes after that. It was definitely the right temperature but was just unimpressive; it wasn't the delicious flavor of the meat contrasted with the Olgasauce and sweet bread that I remember. And the fries were just ok -- not particularly crispy and definitely not the curls that Olga's was famous for. While I was waiting for my (replacement) meal, I'd looked on Yelp to see what the reviews were, and a coupon for free dessert was available for checking in, so I did. I opted for the brownie but asked if I could have it to go. The server said "absolutely" and a few minutes later, she brought out the brownie in a large box, with caramel and nuts sprinkled around it. It was pretty, but I hadn't intended to eat it out of the box. I guess I will now, though. I was most surprised to see it accompanied by a container of ice cream (which pretty much melted during the 2 stops I made before I got home). I'm sorry to say that there is a reason that Olga's is having financial trouble, as, except for my server, Breanne (or maybe it's Breanna), this experience did nothing to make me want to return. read more

I get lunch all the time to go, and it's usually always great. Snackers are usually hit or miss though..either spot on or feel like yesterday'a leftovers, unfortunately. What a disappointment. I remember Olga's being really good a few years ago. This time around, the gyro meat was rubbery. Olga's Kitchen is serious business in these parts. Being that it's a local place, and it's delicious, makes it's a double whammy of goodness to me. In between the breads, snacker's and the Original Olga, I am in heaven. I don't come to this particular location all that often because it's not to close to me, but it's next to Costco, so I come here when I'm done shopping there. Today was no exception as I was starving after leaving Costco and on my way home. I always get the same thing usually. I got the original Olga with a drink because that's what I wanted. Also, I have tried their snacker's with marinara app before, and that was delicious. The service today was not on point and actually a little slow and slacking. Not bad service, just slow with missing parts. I will not dock a star since I love this place to much. If you remember the original Olga's in the Continental Market in Birmingham, you know this restaurant is not the same. There are a few things on the menu that I like, if properly prepared, so once in awhile I stop at an Olga's. Unfortunately, the results have been mixed over the years. I was seated at a table that had not been well cleaned, ordered a small Olga salad without tomatoes and a spinach pie. Cayenne pepper and garlic salt used to be on every table at Olga's; now they must be requested and I did so when my beverage was delivered. I received a medium salad with extra tomatoes. The server corrected this. The replacement salad was ok, but one of the olives contained a portion of a pit. When the spinach pie was delivered, I again requested cayenne pepper and garlic salt and these were provided after a return trip to the kitchen. The spinach pie was somewhat soggy and it appears the recipe has changed. Really, the only good thing that came from this visit was that I learned to never text while eating. When I looked up from my phone, I saw what was in my glass. That was enough to stop eating and pay the check. I noticed the medium salad was still on my bill. I took the glass to the cashier, told her about the error, and asked if it was acceptable to serve a beverage in a dirty glass. She said something about the dishwasher being next to an area where some menu item was prepped. She then apologized and comped the lunch, but it will be awhile before I forget enough to stop at Olga's again. read more

Ordered a large side (extra) of their cheese dip for a large snackers ($1.29) and what did they give me? A 2oz cup... so if that is their large side I'd hate to see what their small ($0.59) size would be... The rest of the food had an off taste to it as well. The atmosphere was depressing. Menus we were given were sticky and torn. Our server told us several times throughout our meal she was in a contest with her employees to sell gift cards, and she wanted the prize. She told us while we were trying to eat at very awkward times. It was a quiet night so the staff occupied a table in the dining room to chat, including the manager - incredibly tacky. Food came and our order was incorrect. She was more focused on her contest and hanging out with her coworkers and managers. Had the service been half decent I still would not return.
