Absolutely Stunning and Beautiful! Loved the decor. We had reservations and were seated immediately when we got there. Staff are attentive. They're always walking around to make sure your cups are filled with water and checking to see if you need anything. We were pretty impressed with the food. We ordered: Pad see ew Pad Thai Zaap Wings Thai Tea The pad see ew was so good! You can taste the slight char on the noodles. The pad Thai was also really yummy. The zaap wings were the star of the show. Crispy and SEASONED! The seasoning reminds me of larb seasoning. The Thai tea wasn't too sweet which we liked. Overall a great place to dine. We've been eyeing Mahasan for a while, so we were thrilled to grab an early Sunday dinner here with friends. Arriving as a party of four just before 6:00 PM, we were 3rd on the walk-in waitlist. We were quoted 5 minutes, but it ended up taking closer to 30--so be prepared for a bit of a wait, as it's a popular new spot! At the time of writing, they only take reservations for parties of 8 or more, though between the long walk-in wait and how rich the dishes are, bringing a large group to share everything really feels like the ideal way to dine here. Located in downtown San Mateo, parking is easy enough with several lots and street parking nearby. The space is tastefully decorated; our friends even remarked that it felt a bit like an elegant afternoon tea spot. The service throughout our meal was delightful. Overall, we really enjoyed the food. My personal favorites were the Hoi Jor (crispy tofu-skin rolls filled with shrimp and pork) and the crispy pork belly. The pork belly portion is on the smaller side, but honestly, it's so rich that the portion size was spot-on. We also tried the Khao Pad Mun Nuer (ribeye fried rice with garlic chips), which reminded us of a similar dish at Kemiri. Because it's fried in beef fat, it's undeniably rich and comforting (definitely not a guilt-free dish! lol)--we liked it, though it didn't quite reach top-favorite status for us. Lastly, the lychee duck curry was good--a great alternative if you're not a fan of traditional pineapple--though it carried a bit more heat than we expected. 37 minute wait from the time we placed our order to the one and only appetizer (a plain roti) appearing on the table is insane. I took timestamps of when we first put our name on the waitlist until we left the restaurant. (See screenshot.) We ordered, as mentioned, the roti, and then the khao pad mun nuer, and a khao soi. Came here on a Tuesday night around 5:30PM with two friends for my belated birthday dinner. This is such a cute spot with nice interior for girls night out or date night. I originally picked this place because the menu had a lot of dishes you don't normally see at most Thai restaurants. The food actually reminded me of Khao Tiew at West Portal in San Francisco but if I had to choose between the two, I think I'd give Mahasan the slight edge. The flavors here felt more balanced and never got too sweet or too salty. The service here was also excellent and quick even with full house. * Roti - You get to choose between yellow or green curry. Our server recommended the yellow curry, and I'm so glad we listened because it was so so good! * Garlic Rice with Ribeye - The garlic rice was really fragrant without being overpowering, and I liked that it didn't have any burnt garlic taste. My only complaint was the ribeye. It was cooked nicely but could've used a little seasoning, even just some salt, to bring out the flavor of the meat. * Lychee Duck Curry - Our favorite! The curry had a really nice balance of savory and sweet, and the duck was super tender without tasting too fatty. This dish doesn't come with rice, so you'll have to order that separately. We ended up eating the curry with the garlic rice and ribeye, and everything actually paired really well together. * Papaya Salad - Pretty standard. Got resys on a Tuesday night at 6 and still a pretty full house. Staff were friendly and kind. Review might be a little hard after traveling to Thailand but definitely still a great restaurant. Wing zapp- Spicy and sour, very popular, was even available in the McDonald's and other fast food places in Thailand. Did great here with the flavors. 5/5 Roti dip- can never go wrong with roti dip! Dipping sauce was perfectly complimented with it. 5/5 Tom yum: good choice if you want soup but honestly hard to rate compared to Thailand. ?/5 Pad Thai: it's good, wasn't an amazing standout. I stumbled across Mahasan on TikTok, and I'm so glad I did. We walked in a little over an hour before closing, and the space was beautiful--classy and polished, but still warm and inviting rather than stuffy. I had my heart set on the roti with yellow curry, but they were out, so you better believe that's what I'll be ordering next time. We started with the pork belly appetizer, which was good and somehow got better the more we ate, but it was not the standout dish. That title easily goes to the lychee duck red curry, which genuinely blew my mind. The flavor was incredible, the spice level was perfect, and the duck was cooked beautifully. My only complaint was that we were not given knives, so we had to cut the duck with our spoons, which was less than ideal. I honestly would have drunk the curry if that were socially acceptable. We did have to order $12 worth of rice to have enough for the curry, which was slightly disappointing. I understood the initial $6 charge, but a complimentary top-up for such a basic Thai staple would have been a nice touch. CHICKEN WINGS FOR THE WIN(G)! Had reservations for a party of 2 on Sunday 5:15 pm. Highly recommend getting a reservation as the Yelp waitlist indicated a ~1.5-hour wait. To-go orders had an estimated wait time of an hour. What we got: - Wing Zaap ~ lives up to the hype! Dry seasoning of tangy, spicy, and salty. Wings were crispy, but juicy on the inside. This got my lips tingly and my mouth drooling for more! Highly recommend. - Pla Tod Nam Pla (whole, deep-fried fish) ~ THIS. The fish was well fried, with crispy skin and soft flesh. Sweetened fish sauce coated the fish, bringing out the sweetness of the meat. The seafood sauce that accompanied the dish was a stand-alone star! This dish sells out every night, and I can see why! We managed to grab the last one early in the dinner service, so I recommend grabbing an early reservation for this dish! - Khao Pad Mun Nuer ~ quite salty and mushy. Maybe we went on an off day, as the wet and mochi-like rice was the subject of conversation for two other tables. The steak was cooked well, but lacked color and char. - Lychee Duck Curry ~ Decently spicy and rich in coconut curry. Lychee cuts through the spice pretty well, and the tomatoes add a refreshing contrast to the creaminess of the curry. Duck was slightly chewy. Unfortunately, the rice from the fried rice was too salty and overshadowed this dish. I recommend getting regular rice for this dish. But given that this dish took an hour for us to get, it wasn't worth the wait. All in all, the dishes were hit-or-miss. Of what's ordered, I would highly recommend the Wing Zaap and Pla Tod Nam Pla (whole, deep-fried fish). Other dishes came out somewhat slow or weren't enticing enough. For a 5:15 pm reservation, and the order was submitted by 5:30 pm, we didn't get our last dish until 6:25 pm. We came here on a Sunday night for dinner. I recommend coming with a reservation as there was a long waitlist (and wait), but with the reservation, we were seated with little to no wait. The ambiance was very beautiful and aesthetic and the plates and dish ware were all so cute! We ordered: - Wing Zaap - This was delicious and spiced very well! It wasn't incredibly spicy, but the tangy almost slightly sour flavor was very delicious and the chicken was very tender. - Roti Drip - Not my favorite roti, but still solid - roti was crunchy and the curry was pretty decent. - Pad Kee Mow (with chicken) - The Pad Kee Mow was fantastic! It was very spicy and the chicken was delicious and very tender to eat. Overall very flavorful! - Thai Tea Bingsu - It was a fun dessert! The Thai tea part was surprisingly not very sweet, you can taste the flavor, it just wasn't very sweet. Had a reservation at 5 pm and the place was already packed with first seating. We ordered and it took about 25 mins before our first dish came out. Luckily the tables weren't too close together and it was comfortable to sit. Crispy pork belly - the pork belly was very dry. Portion was very small. the dipping sauce it came with was good and made the crispy pork belly less dry. Tom Yum noodle soup - perfect balance of spiciness and sourness. It had minced pork, fish ball slices and meatballs. Basil Nuer Toon - flavorful beef shank but the beef shank was pretty dry as well. Lychee duck curry - the best dish here! The duck was tender and the lychee curry was creamy and flavorful. The lychee added a nice hint of sweetness. Spicy eggplant - it was good, just your usual Thai eggplant dish. The reservation system through Yelp made our experience great! It was easy to book for a party of 5 on a Thursday night and we got to the restaurant 15 minutes early and got seated immediately. We ordered quite a few dishes including the roti dip, crispy pork belly, lychee duck curry, crab fat fried rice, tom kha kai, papaya salad, pad thai, cabbage and bacon, and the asparagus with shrimp. Nothing was particularly amazing, but it nothing was bad. We were able to ask our server if we could make some dishes non-spicy too. They were able to do this with our papaya salad. However, they were unable to change the spice level of the duck curry. In addition, the menu said the tom kha kai soup should not be spicy, but it was spicy when it arrived!! That was a bit disappointing for us. Overall, we were excited to try the lychee duck curry, but it wasn't a surprise that the curry itself did not have lychee flavor. The curry and other two dishes also don't come with rice so we ordered jasmine rice separately. Service was good, but there's an automatic large party fee of 20%. Everyone that has reviewed so far about the food, I completely understand your opinions and thoughts. Everyone's taste preferences vary and it can get quite subjective. However, everyone who has trashed the service being slow or whatnot, ya'll tripping. Mahasan is still at a soft opening so they are probably figuring out kinks, training new staff, streamlining processes, and learning as they go. I implore you to be more considerate and give them some grace. That being said, my party of 4 visited without a reservation on a Saturday night around 6PM. We put down our name and had to wait maybe 20 minutes and promptly got seated. We did not have to wait too long for them to roll back around to take our orders. I didn't end up taking pictures of everything that we ordered but the meal was quite memorable and I overall enjoyed the dishes. Pros - 1) They frequently refilled our water. I am sorry to hear previous yelpers who went and felt they were ignored. Perhaps they are improving on this point. I felt my water glass was always with water whenever I was thirsty. 2) The Ribeye and Crispy Prawns were the highlight for me. Flavorful and not dry at all. The instant noodles kinda worked with the Ribeye and I'm all for it. 3) The ambience was really nice. There was a lot of space for tables and seating, especially since they took out the bar area from the previous establishment. 4) The servers checked up on us twice to make sure everything was okay. I have to say, they seem willing to take feedback and want to improve for guests. Great service. 5) They use real flowers for decoration...felt that was a nice touch. Cons - Little if any but... 1) The chicken in the Pad See Ew was way too dry. I don't know which part of the chicken they used (breast?) but it was not very good. 2) Waiting area is a bit cramped. Not sure how they can accommodate this but it's definitely not a major bad point. 3) The entrance door...while we were waiting, we watched as multiple parties got confused on how to push the door open. The handle is one of those old style locks where you have to use your thumb to push down and it opens. Not everyone is familiar with these which I would recommend they replace it, put a sign, or at least leave the door open? Some guy almost slammed the door lol. Mahasan is downtown San Mateo's latest and arguably hottest restaurant, based on the wait times on a recent Friday evening. They were quoting 1.5 hour waits if you didn't have a reservation. Fortunately, I did and I was seated within 5 mins of arriving. The interior has been nicely revised and updated since I believe there was an Italian restaurant in this same space before Mahasan moved in. For my first visit here, I shared their Pad Kee Mow, Green Curry(includes chicken and eggplant), and the Shrimp & Asparagus. I also had their Strawberry Lemonade drink. Warning to those that have a lower tolerance for spicy food to ask about each dish's default spice levels. For me, their default levels were perfect, but I do like spice in my dishes. Everything I ordered was authentic, fresh and quite simply delicious. For the time being, getting a spot on a weekend will take some work. I do believe they have staying power so this could become my regular go-to Thai restaurant in downtown San Mateo. read more

Made a reservation for 5 people on Thurs for dinner and luckily we did since it was super crowded! They do wait for your full party to arrive before seating you and I did see a party with a dog being turned away (very nicely) so not dog friendly. It did get a bit loud as it was quite crowded, but the vibes were still fun. Drinks ordered: Lychee Iced Tea (9/10): delicious but on the sweeter side, tasted more like canned lychee syrup than fresh lychee which I personally enjoyed. Not saying that's how it's made, but it was of that sweetness level Thai Iced Tea (9/10): A classic and very delicious. Also on the sweet side like it should be Food Ordered: Golden Tofu (9/10): I love deep fried tofu and their sweet chili sauce paired so well with it Fried Cheese (9/10): loved how it was in wonton wrapping as it really had a crunch and the cheese pull was AMAZING Khao Pad Mun Nuer (10/10): best thing on the menu that we tried!! Ribeye was cooked perfectly and the rice was too good Lychee Duck Curry (7/10): I liked the concept but there wasn't any lychee taste unless you ate the lychee chunk. Overall flavor was good though Spicy Crab Noodle (7/10): was good but nothing super memorable in comparison Tom Yum Noodle Soup (6/10): I normally love tom yum, but this one wasn't it for me. There was a lot of spice especially on the bottom, but I wouldn't get this again personally and would try other things instead Papaya Salad (9/10): super refreshing and very good flavor!! I dined at Mahasan during its soft opening, so this review is a little late. But my experience was wonderful for a restaurant that had only been open for just two days at the time. It's difficult to find a local place that serves Khao Soi, so it was exciting to see they had it on their menu. The flavor of the soup was rich and delicious! It was almost exact to the dish we had in Chiang Mai. The tom yum noodle soup however was not sour enough for me but the waitress had made sure to check in and offer me limes to add. Tom yum is my favorite Thai dish but unfortunately this one did not satisfy my craving. The soup had a more umami taste rather than the sourness I was familiar with. The staff were very kind and even asked us for feedback, which we were glad to offer. For dessert, there were two options and we opted for the Thai tea bingsu. Delicious! One of the best desserts I've ever had. It came with a side of condensed milk and grass jelly. So refreshing after a nice dinner. Came on a Friday night around 8, waited about 30 minutes to be seated. Maybe because it was their first couple days open but when we went, it took 35 minutes for my wife's entree to come and another 25 minutes for my food after that. Khao Pad Kun Nuer: 4/5 The flavors were there and the tallow fattiness umami was noticeable. The steak slices were also perfectly rendered with a balance of meat and fat. I wish I could say I enjoyed everything but it was just a bit too salty. Panang Curry with Shrimp: 3/5 Had really nice aromatic curry smell and tasted great. However, the dish only consisted of curry sauce and the fried prawns. I think some garnishment or vegetables would help give the dish some more layers. Probs my new favorite Thai spot in the Peninsula. Everything I had here was SO good! We were looking for a restaurant to host a team dinner (~13 people) and made reservations over the phone. Making reservations was a bit more difficult than I would've expected... it took so many call attempts before we were finally able to reach someone. Some highlights: + Wing Zaap ($14) (5/5): I loooove a crispy wing and this definitely hit the spot. The dry rub was delicious and seasoned perfectly, it has a huge kick to it so be mindful if you don't have a huge spice tolerance. + Panang Curry w/ Crispy Prawns ($25) (5/5): The panang curry was rich and had so much depth to it! The crispy prawns were equally delicious and fried perfectly. I'd order this again! + Spicy Crab Noodle ($30) (4/5): This felt like a fancier pad thai since it was essentially pad thai with crab paste lol. HUGE portion that I'd share in the future but this definitely hit the spot and wasn't too spicy. Food came out quite slowly; we were a bigger party, but everything came at different times so it made the timing of our meal a little awkward. I do wish they were a bit more proactive about clearing empty dishes too, because it was getting hard to fit everyone's meals on the table. They just opened 3 weeks ago as Soft Opening, they clearly did not expect to have a line still even an hour before closing. Wait was long, no one answered the phone nor any website available yet. So we decided to just stop by since there's only 2 of us it would be easier to be seated, nope it wasn't we still had to wait but not as bad. Food was good but a bit on the salty side not sure if they were just in a rush and they ran out of eggs and other food in the menu like the Duck Curry. They tried to do the best they can to provide good service to accommodate the inconvenience and offered free desserts and discounts to other tables. Obviously they were short staff and not prepared for the overwhelming response but as any new establishments there's a lot of kinks to iron out. My friends and I got here around 6:45pm for dinner. We put our names down on the waitlist and went through a 45 minute wait to get seated. The hostess was kind enough to let us know when to anticipate getting seated at our table. I ordered the Yellow Curry. It has bone-in chicken which makes this one of the few places that I know serves their chicken like that. You do have to order a side of rice separately if you want to eat that alongside the curry. The chicken was really good as well as the curry broth. I do wish there were more potatoes throughout the bowl. The spice level was mild. This place is relatively new and has only been open for about a month at the time of writing this review. Some appetizer items were not available because they have been very popular such as the Crispy Pork Belly and the Roti Dip. The staff was very kind- we were celebrating a birthday and they brought out a small bowl of ice cream with a candle to help us celebrate. The inside of the place was very clean and modern. It can get pretty busy with parking, but there are a lot of parking spots and structures in the surrounding area. read more

24 hours later and im still thinking about those wings! I'm certain this place will become really popular soon so im glad I got to give it a try before they do. we got there on Wednesday around 6pm with no wait, but the restaurant filled up almost within the hour. the decor in the restaurant was really cute but I think they could fill it up with a few more tables and seats to accommodate more people over time. service was really great as well as the wait staff came by multiple times to check in and refill our waters. we got the wing zaap and crispy pork belly to start. the wings were definitely spicy but so well fried and so full of flavor. it had a seasoning that was pretty unique since I've never had that elsewhere. also amazed at how crispy it stayed even at the end of our meal. the crispy pork belly was a tad salty but it came with a sauce that was very flavorful and had a tang to it as well. we also got the lychee duck curry and chicken pad kee mao. the curry doesn't come with rice so definitely get a side of rice to soak up that delicious curry. duck was also perfectly cooked and tender. I personally could use more noodles in the pad kee mao but overall still a very solid dish especially considering the spice level it came with. New Thai place in Downtown San Mateo that we've been seeing on IG. Cute decor from the Roman-inspired columns to the little table lamps. Taste-wise, it was good! Though not sure if we would actively seek it out again but if people wanted to go, we'd go back lol. Our fav was the Crab Fat Fried Rice -- fragrant and good amount of crab. Pad Kee Mow with Ribeye was a close second -- the ribeye had the right amount of char. They were out of their Pla Tod Nam Pla (barramundi fried fish) unfortunately but it looked good online. A little pricey especially given the portions but tasty. Wish there was more meat/protein. Make sure to make a reservation. We also got: - Roti Dip: more of a Chinese pancake (cong you bing) than a roti but tasty still. Really rich coconut milk curry that was tasty and fills you up fast so we couldn't finish it (also would be unwise given our lactose intolerance lol). Lychees were a nice touch of sweet. - Thai Tea Bingsu: served with condensed milk and grass jelly that you can pour in yourself. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, and the food was flavorful. We ordered the Tom Yum soup, steak rice pot, and duck curry. Unfortunately, both my boyfriend and I developed severe diarrhea shortly after eating here. We had shared the same meal, and neither of us had any stomach issues beforehand. Based on our experience, we believe our illness was related to the food we ate at this restaurant, possibly the Tom Yum soup. While the taste and presentation were good, the health issues we experienced outweighed the positives. We hope the restaurant will review its food preparation and ingredient handling to ensure customer safety. read more

The food is really below average. I saw this restaurant on social media, the atmosphere and vibe seems nice. The service is decent, but the food is absolutely bad. The tom yum soup, is not sour, is more towards sweet. Has a heavy coconut milk taste. Doesn't blend well, they did not even put a lot of basil in. The roti is alright, for the price of $13.99 I expect a few more pieces. It is very soft and not crunchy. The duck curry, the curry sauce itself has no problem. The duck is so rough, is more like overcook. For $26 this is definitely overpriced. It does not even come with rice. Lastly, the grilled squid, please avoid this! This is like the worst squid I ever had. The presentation is bad, and is super rough. This place is overrated and overpriced. Save your money to go to more authentic choice. read more

Delicious & great service. Can totally see it becoming super popular. There aren't a lot of tables. For now no wait on a Monday. In my humble opinion comparable or even better than Khao Tiew in SF. Street parking only. 4.5/5 Pad Kee Mao - got the chicken & spicy level. Solid! 5/5 Duck Curry - Sauce was perfect. Creamy, and not too sweet. I personally liked the added lychee. Duck was tender. Rice doesn't come automatically, so def add rice on the side for it 5/5 Khao pad man nuer (steak + rice in a clay pot) - I can see people potentially saying not enough flavor but honestly it's the fragrance / aroma of it all. It's a subtle balance. The yolk adds creaminess and overall the flavor with the ribeye and rice made a perfect bite. Don't see this as "fried rice". Delish! Adding to my rotation and back for dessert next time. Food done well (not just presentation). read more

2 stars. The ambiance was really pretty, especially the green interior and crown moldings, but unfortunately the food and service didn't live up to the atmosphere. Before we were even seated at a table, while still in the reception area, we were already being asked to place our order one hour before closing which immediately set the tone for a rushed experience. The steak fried rice was somehow both salty and bland at the same time, lacking much actual flavor or seasoning depth. With most dishes priced over $30, the quality along with small portions and execution felt underwhelming and closer to something you'd expect at a much lower price point. The spicy crab Pad Thai was mostly egg with very little crab. It tasted overly fishy and sweet with basically no spice at all. We had to gently remind multiple servers to bring the requested additional spice on the side. By the time the Pad Thai arrived, they also dropped off the check before we even had a chance to take a bite, which made the experience feel rushed and rude. The extra spice only came later when they were already waiting with the POS system ready for card payment. What made the service even more confusing was that it felt both rushed and nonexistent at the same time. We were being hurried through the meal, yet it was difficult to get help for simple requests, despite the staff not seeming especially busy with other tables. The nearby restaurants in the area provide noticeably better service and at least don't bring out the POS system before you've even had your first bite. Toward the end, they didn't bother refilling waters and hovered nearby waiting for payment. The suggested minimum tip on the POS system was 20%, but the service honestly did not reflect that level of hospitality or attentiveness. Overall, the experience felt uncomfortable and inattentive rather than welcoming. Nearby restaurants offer better food and noticeably better service for a similar price. read more

A another good restaurant in San Mateo neighborhood I tried the fried fish, chicken yellow curry which I wish they used a no bone chicken much easier to eat specially when sharing but the curry is good, papaya salad is also yummy, Tom Kha is also good, Pad Thai is a little bit on a salty side but it still Service is excellent which makes this restaurant highly recommendable read more

Great overall! The balance between the saltiness and spice level was just right for most of the dishes. Loved the panang curry out of all of them as well as the crab fat fried rice. For desert the Thai tea bingsu was good but given the choice I'd pick the burnt butter toast since it had more texture and better flavor read more

Such a lovely experience! We went during their soft opening at 5pm on a Saturday and there was no wait (although by the time we left around 6:30, there was a line outside). We were seated and ordered three dishes: - wings - crab fat fried rice - crispy shrimp - burnt butter toast All dishes were flavorful and memorable! What really made the experience was the service. There was a server who noticed that our son loves cucumbers and gave us an extra plate of them !! So sweet and we're so grateful. Definitely coming back and highly recommend! read more

Chicken wings' dry rub flavor were pretty good, but would think a saucy type of chicken wing would taste better so it doesn't seem so dry. Braised beef shanks had good flavor, a bit tough in texture, so it could have been the type of cut of beef. Duck curry was flavorful, meat was tender, the curry itself was watery and expected it to be thicker consistency, but not sure if that is the style of the dish. Thai bingsu was super good, large portion that is shareable with 4 people at least. Spicy crab noodle was the crowd favorite, nice spice heat kick, and good portions of crab. Service was wonderful and a reservation is definitely needed. The place filled up fast, within 15 min of seating. Unfortunately the dish we only liked was the spicy eggplant. This was fantastic! The spring rolls and garlic shrimp were fried but had good flavor, and the tom yum soup w noodles was very gummy. There was way too much noodle so it absorbed all the liquid. The flavor of the soup was good. Unfortunately I had a reaction to the fried food. I'd visit again with different items, but we'll see. read more

Amazing! Finally, a Thai spot in the San Mateo area that actually delivers. We ordered the Lychee Thai duck, and it immediately stood out. Too many places cut corners: tossing in thin slices of pre-made Peking duck and calling it a day. Not here. This duck was clearly house-prepared, richly flavored, and served in a generous portion. The Pad Thai was exactly what it should be but so rarely is: noodles cooked just right: firm, springy, with that satisfying chew paired with well-seasoned, tender chicken and a balanced texture throughout. No sogginess, no overload of sauce. And the spicy eggplant? Easily the highlight. Deep, bold flavors with just the right level of heat, and sautéed garlic and onion the kind of dish that keeps you going back for "one more bite" until it's gone. We had Italian and French wine - both to die for. You can tell the kitchen knows what it's doing. The flavors are confident, authentic, and unwatered-down - what you'd hope for even thousands of miles from Thailand. Highly recommend giving it a try. read more

Came here on a Friday night at 7pm and we waited about 30 minutes for a party of 4 which isn't bad! Ordered fried cheese 5/5 amazing, squid 4/5 flavors good but portion was small considering it was $16 lol wouldn't get it again, roti 4/5 good! But I like banana island roti more haha. Papaya salad 3/5 it was good but too spicy for me; very refreshing appetizer! Lychee curry duck was good 5/5 a little overcooked but I enjoyed it! Steak with rice was good! As for drinks lychee ice tea was refreshing! Not too sweet! As for dessert we got both of their dessert Thai tea bingsuu 5/5 and Kaya toast 3/5. Bill was $210 total not including tips. We had reservations for dinner on the 4th of July and it was packed. It was a full house and service was still impeccable. We got our order taken fast and the food was served quickly as well. Our waitress returned to check on us several times and our water was kept full without fail. Our dinner included the lychee curry duck, ribeye with garlic rice, crab fried rice, spicy eggplant and garlic prawns. The curry had a wonderful sweetness from the lychee and had just enough acid from the tomatoes to cut the heaviness of the duck. The duck could probably use a few minutes less of cooking time. We asked for the ribeye to be cooked rare and was not disappointed. It was perfect. My only wish was the rice had more garlic flavor. The garlic prawns were fried with the shell on and had an amazing crunchiness. I don't think I could ever get tired of them. The spicy eggplant was a huge surprise...it may be one of the best eggplant dishes I've had in a long time. The crab fried was was pretty good but not exciting. It was a little light on crab for the price. We are looking forward to going back and trying the other menu choices. I would definitely make reservations given the popularity. Mahasan will have tremendous longevity if they continue with their level of food quality and maintain a high level of service. read more
