They do wait for your full party to arrive before seating you and I did see a party with a dog being turned away (very nicely) so not dog friendly. It did get a bit loud as it was quite crowded, but the vibes were still fun. Drinks ordered: Lychee Iced Tea (9/10): delicious but on the sweeter side, tasted more like canned lychee syrup than fresh lychee which I personally enjoyed. Not saying that's how it's made, but it was of that sweetness level Thai Iced Tea (9/10): A classic and very delicious. Also on the sweet side like it should be Food Ordered: Golden Tofu (9/10): I love deep fried tofu and their sweet chili sauce paired so well with it Fried Cheese (9/10): loved how it was in wonton wrapping as it really had a crunch and the cheese pull was AMAZING Khao Pad Mun Nuer (10/10): best thing on the menu that we tried!! Ribeye was cooked perfectly and the rice was too good Lychee Duck Curry (7/10): I liked the concept but there wasn't any lychee taste unless you ate the lychee chunk. Overall flavor was good though Spicy Crab Noodle (7/10): was good but nothing super memorable in comparison Tom Yum Noodle Soup (6/10): I normally love tom yum, but this one wasn't it for me. There was a lot of spice especially on the bottom, but I wouldn't get this again personally and would try other things instead Papaya Salad (9/10): super refreshing and very good flavor!! 2 stars. The ambiance was really pretty, especially the green interior and crown moldings, but unfortunately the food and service didn't live up to the atmosphere. Before we were even seated at a table, while still in the reception area, we were already being asked to place our order one hour before closing which immediately set the tone for a rushed experience. The steak fried rice was somehow both salty and bland at the same time, lacking much actual flavor or seasoning depth. With most dishes priced over $30, the quality along with small portions and execution felt underwhelming and closer to something you'd expect at a much lower price point. The spicy crab Pad Thai was mostly egg with very little crab. It tasted overly fishy and sweet with basically no spice at all. We had to gently remind multiple servers to bring the requested additional spice on the side. By the time the Pad Thai arrived, they also dropped off the check before we even had a chance to take a bite, which made the experience feel rushed and rude. The extra spice only came later when they were already waiting with the POS system ready for card payment. What made the service even more confusing was that it felt both rushed and nonexistent at the same time. We were being hurried through the meal, yet it was difficult to get help for simple requests, despite the staff not seeming especially busy with other tables. The nearby restaurants in the area provide noticeably better service and at least don't bring out the POS system before you've even had your first bite. Toward the end, they didn't bother refilling waters and hovered nearby waiting for payment. The suggested minimum tip on the POS system was 20%, but the service honestly did not reflect that level of hospitality or attentiveness. this is actually a khao tiew dupe if not better... because tell me why this was the best khao soi i've had in the bay area thus far. this place also has the beef fried rice that khao tiew has but i didn't try it so im not sure if this spot tops them in that category... but everything else was PHENOMENAL (aside from the service quality) papaya salad was crunchy and tangy while also being light and refreshing, tom yum was also rich and tangy and had bits of shrimp and other veggies in it, and the pork basil stir fry thing was also surprisingly good despite how unassuming it looked. lastly, the khao soi was so flavorful and rich, the only note that i had for the chicken was that it was slightly colder than the noodles/curry itself which was a little off putting. food aside, i do think that their service has a lot to work on. i know this restaurant has been open for only a month and we also got seated during a rush, but they forgot to give us a menu and we tried waving them down multiple times before a bus boy gave us a menu. we also didn't really get checked up on throughout the meal and it just seemed that there wasn't enough staff for the entire restaurant. overall, that was something that was quite disappointing even though the restaurant is "upscale". definitely something to note and i hope that they work on this because it was a really great food experience and it was just sad to see this read more

I dined at Mahasan during its soft opening, so this review is a little late. But my experience was wonderful for a restaurant that had only been open for just two days at the time. It's difficult to find a local place that serves Khao Soi, so it was exciting to see they had it on their menu. The flavor of the soup was rich and delicious! It was almost exact to the dish we had in Chiang Mai. The tom yum noodle soup however was not sour enough for me but the waitress had made sure to check in and offer me limes to add. Tom yum is my favorite Thai dish but unfortunately this one did not satisfy my craving. The soup had a more umami taste rather than the sourness I was familiar with. The staff were very kind and even asked us for feedback, which we were glad to offer. For dessert, there were two options and we opted for the Thai tea bingsu. Delicious! One of the best desserts I've ever had. It came with a side of condensed milk and grass jelly. So refreshing after a nice dinner. Came on a Friday night around 8, waited about 30 minutes to be seated. Maybe because it was their first couple days open but when we went, it took 35 minutes for my wife's entree to come and another 25 minutes for my food after that. Khao Pad Kun Nuer: 4/5 The flavors were there and the tallow fattiness umami was noticeable. The steak slices were also perfectly rendered with a balance of meat and fat. I wish I could say I enjoyed everything but it was just a bit too salty. Panang Curry with Shrimp: 3/5 Had really nice aromatic curry smell and tasted great. Probs my new favorite Thai spot in the Peninsula. Everything I had here was SO good! We were looking for a restaurant to host a team dinner (~13 people) and made reservations over the phone. Making reservations was a bit more difficult than I would've expected... it took so many call attempts before we were finally able to reach someone. Some highlights: + Wing Zaap ($14) (5/5): I loooove a crispy wing and this definitely hit the spot. The dry rub was delicious and seasoned perfectly, it has a huge kick to it so be mindful if you don't have a huge spice tolerance. + Panang Curry w/ Crispy Prawns ($25) (5/5): The panang curry was rich and had so much depth to it! The crispy prawns were equally delicious and fried perfectly. I'd order this again! + Spicy Crab Noodle ($30) (4/5): This felt like a fancier pad thai since it was essentially pad thai with crab paste lol. HUGE portion that I'd share in the future but this definitely hit the spot and wasn't too spicy. Food came out quite slowly; we were a bigger party, but everything came at different times so it made the timing of our meal a little awkward. I didn't know this place was affiliated with Taste of Glory in SM with long lines as well. They just opened 3 weeks ago as Soft Opening, they clearly did not expect to have a line still even an hour before closing. Wait was long, no one answered the phone nor any website available yet. So we decided to just stop by since there's only 2 of us it would be easier to be seated, nope it wasn't we still had to wait but not as bad. Food was good but a bit on the salty side not sure if they were just in a rush and they ran out of eggs and other food in the menu like the Duck Curry. They tried to do the best they can to provide good service to accommodate the inconvenience and offered free desserts and discounts to other tables. Obviously they were short staff and not prepared for the overwhelming response but as any new establishments there's a lot of kinks to iron out. My friends and I got here around 6:45pm for dinner. We put our names down on the waitlist and went through a 45 minute wait to get seated. The hostess was kind enough to let us know when to anticipate getting seated at our table. I ordered the Yellow Curry. It has bone-in chicken which makes this one of the few places that I know serves their chicken like that. You do have to order a side of rice separately if you want to eat that alongside the curry. The chicken was really good as well as the curry broth. I do wish there were more potatoes throughout the bowl. The spice level was mild. This place is relatively new and has only been open for about a month at the time of writing this review. Some appetizer items were not available because they have been very popular such as the Crispy Pork Belly and the Roti Dip. The staff was very kind- we were celebrating a birthday and they brought out a small bowl of ice cream with a candle to help us celebrate. The inside of the place was very clean and modern. Such a lovely experience! We went during their soft opening at 5pm on a Saturday and there was no wait (although by the time we left around 6:30, there was a line outside). We were excited to try this new restaurant in San Mateo, but unfortunately had two disappointing experiences back to back. The restaurant hours say they're open until 9 PM, but when we arrived around 8:15 PM, we were told they were no longer taking orders. When we asked why the hours say 9 PM if orders stop much earlier, the staff response was not helpful. Our first visit wasn't much better, we arrived around 7 PM on a Sunday evening and were told there was over an hour wait with no certainty that a table would even become available. It's understandable for a new restaurant to work through growing pains, but clearer communication about wait times and kitchen closing times would really help customers avoid frustration. This is coming from someone who has tried Khao Tiew so my standards may be a lot higher than other reviewers. However, due to similar signature dishes (Khao Pad Man Neur, Duck Curry, etc) it's worth framing in context. I typically don't like slapping 5* reviews so take this with a grain of salt because it's worth trying! Khao Pad Man Neur $33: 6.5/10 Ribeye was a nice medium rare, slices were juicy. Garlic chips accented the dish well. In the end this is a rice dish, and we felt the beef tallow flavors & depth was lacking inside the rice. It's not the best sign that the ribeye that shines brighter than the actual rice; we were really lacking that meaty, intense impact from what fried rice usually is. For the price set, we were really expecting much stronger flavors but it came flat. Lychee Duck Curry: $25 7/10 Pretty solid, tastes how you'd imagine it. Curry is a bit creamier than what we wanted but it's still strong. Duck was sliced well and cooked to a good doneness. However, we felt the lychee neither adds nor takes away from the overall dish. There's a slight fruity sweetness to the curry but this doesn't accentuate the dish in a way where the other flavors show up better. Just feels slightly sweeter. Looks pretty though. Plad Tom nom Pla: $32 5.5/10 Take the 5.5 rating with a slight edge of optimism because I think this dish has lots of potential. The dipping sauce was refreshing and the fish flavors were good. What made this a 5.5 for us was the fish, naturally supposed to be deep fried to match the bone texture, may have been over fried when we received it. After a few minutes it quickly became dry, chewy and tough despite having good seasoning & dip. While not a problem for us, note the menu says boneless however there are bones, meant to be edible, in the dish. Tom Sabb Neur: $21 5/10 Unfortunately, this dish felt flat to me. The broth had a clear lemongrass, spicy base which feel standard to thai soups. However, we were expecting the other ingredients to contribute more flavor. The beef shank was a bit overcooked & did not add to the soup in any way. Despite having mushrooms, onions, and beef, the soups main flavors were lemon grass and chili. It did not feel like there was synergy between the soup base and the ingredients that brought the dish together. This was disappointing but otherwise no major errors were elsewhere. Service/atmosphere The waiter was very polite & kind :) Always made sure we had water & answered all the questions we had. Ambiance is very cute, very light green and flowery vibes especially nice for date nights. I'd give the decorations, vibes & service an 8/10. Authentic, top quality Thai food is finally here! My family stopped by during their soft opening, and we ended up ordering about 80% of the menu. Everything was absolutely delicious, with beautiful presentation across the board. It's a bit of a twist on what you usually see at Thai restaurants in the city but trust me it's still very authentic. Some of my favorite dishes were the garlic shrimp, Pad Thai (street food style... so good!), the deep fried whole fish and the lychee duck curry. Beautiful setting. Their duck curry, the curry itself very robust and flavorful with chilis toned down which we'd asked for, but still full of pizzaz. We found the meat itselfd on the tough side, and while no connoisseurs of the bird, it shouldn't be this resistant to the fork and knife. The papaya sald had some good flavors, but the beans advertised were barely there, we had to kinda hunt them doewn on the plate, it also needed more of a balance between sour and tangy and salty and sweet to really explode onto the palate. The veggie pad thai with grilled tofu was serviceable and my husband ate it for leftovers for two nights. So a solid bet, but have I had better elsewhere? Yes.ave I also had worse? Yes. We started with the roti with yellow curry, followed by green curry with black rice (which they were able to substitute tofu to make vegetarian) and the pad see ew with shrimp. Both were excellent! We finished with the Thai tea shaved ice with coconut milk and Thai jelly. Incredibly refreshing and light. Finally a good Thai restaurant in the Peninsula! The food quality is top tier, and honestly rivaled the quality of some of the best restaurants I've been to in Bangkok/Chiang Mai. The service is so kind and attentive, and the ambiance is really nice. We went around 7:45pm on Friday night and everything came out super fast and piping hot! I'd ignore the 1 star reviews on here, they are not justified at all. Besides, it is a soft opening, they are still working out the logistics and staffing, so they deserve some grace. We didn't experience any delays in service at all, but would totally understand if there was in the first few weeks for sure. The owners are the same as Taste + Glory if you've been, really great brunch spot. They are opening this restaurant as a purely Thai dinner spot, and the complexity they pull off on these dishes is really top tier. Honestly I had a much better meal here than Kin Khao in the city. We ordered the Khao Soi and Khao Pad Mun Nuer and both were incredibly good! The curry in the Khao Soi was perfectly balanced, with perfectly cooked chicken drumstick/thigh still on the bone. The ribeye was cooked to perfection and the seasoning was spot on! I regret not taking pictures, it smelled so good I couldn't wait to start eating lol. The presentation of the dishes were also very pretty. We also had the Thai Tea Bingsu which rivaled the quality of U:Dessert in the city. So good! We will definitely be back to try their entire menu. Ambiance is good. Service is slow. Food is average. Too many amazing places in San mateo to go back to this place.

We're so happy about this restaurant because its menu is different comparing to the many Thai restaurants in the Peninsula. We ordered their papaya salad, pork belly, fried fish and shrimp pad thai. We're all made from very fresh ingredients and portions were generous. We had a hard time deciding what to order because everything on the menu looked great! We'll definitely be back many more times to try everything. read more
