I love this place and they saved me the arduous task of searching all over Austin for a tailor to hem my jeans and shorts. They told me it would take a week to complete my alterations which I found reasonable and timely and they were ready when I expected. I do not usually have to have my clothes altered but I found the price to be appropriate for the service I received and the work is excellent. I am now ready to take my trip with clothes that fit. Not as big a fan as I once was. The last few times I've dropped things off to be adjusted, I've returned to pick them up (several days after the pick up date) and they've told me, "Oh sorry, we need a few more days on that." And their prices went up a good bit., which wouldn't be terrible, except that the quality of the alterations seems to have gone down simultaneously. Not sure what's going on here. read more

This place is what you'd hope to expect from a tailor. You are able to dress in a private area, ding the bell when you're ready, discuss changes, and you're done. I've never had one item cost me more than $10 - 15. Quality work, attention to detail, and can handle a variety of clothing. I've had jeans, tank tops, and a strapless dress altered. Usually takes about 3 - 7 days to be ready for pickup. Very nice people too. read more

This outfit is great. So here's the deal -- I'm tall. Everybody thinks that they want to be tall but then go buy a long-sleeve shirt, try to which has sleeves beyond your elbow, try to find one you can tuck in. Point being, when I do find something that fits me, I'm happy. I had a black denim jacket, fit me great, but the collar was trashy. No telling how that happened, I bought the jacket at a second hand shop. It wasn't bad enough that I didn't keep the jacket, just bad enough to annoy me, to make the jacket a bit un-wearable. Or some such. But. Idea! I have some black leather, cut from an old ratty couch, maybe I could find someone to fashion it into a collar on this jacket? Of course they'd never get it right exactly, but a guy can dream, right? I decided to give it a shot. I looked up Tailors, here on yelp, sorted by quality, Oliva's came up high, I called, took the jacket and hunk of leather over, walked in with jacket in one hand, leather in the other, hope in my eye. I got it back yesterday. He did great. work. on this. You could never, ever tell it from a new jacket, you could not tell that it didn't come from a fine leather outfit -- the stitching is perfect, even the threads matched. It didn't come fast but I do not care and neither should you, unless you have GOT to go to a wedding tomorrow or something. The guy is super friendly, the work is great, the price is reasonable. The jacket is just great. We talked about maybe having him put leather cuffs and bottom band on it, to give me some more length to the jacket, plus to make it look even more distinctive. Just wearing it one day/night (yesterday) I got lots of compliments on it; I'd think that cuffs and a bottom band would just make it that much better, I guarantee that he is the person who will do the work. A+++ Oh, almost forgot -- no credit or debit cards. Cash or check. I didn't have enough cash, never use checks anymore, went to my bank (three minutes to a Frost branch) and dragged out a few bucks to pay for the item. So be prepared for that. Still A+++ read more

I recommend this place to EVERYONE. Friends? Yup. Family? Duh. That guy on the street whose suit needs tailoring? It'd be cruel not to. So affordable too! They did a wonderful job on my bridesmaid dress. It wasn't a difficult job, but they did have to shorten the dress a whole lot because I'm small. The dress was perfect and hit right where I wanted it to. I called ahead because of some of the reviews on here and because it's common courtesy for local businesses and my dress was ready when they said it was. Honestly, let's cut them slack; a call takes no more than 5 minutes. Don't punish them for you not double checking. Good alterations can be tough sometimes; instead be thankful they take their time on each garment. read more

Went here to get a bridesmaid's dress tailored and expected to pay a lot. Paid way less than I expected and they did an excellent job!! Only thing I would recommend is to call the day before your item is ready for pickup, as they tended to run a little late. Superb service and they treated my dress with the utmost care. read more

I had a zipper caught up - teeth undone both sides of the zipper. I tried several of the other top rated yelp tailors (searched for zipper repair) and the only person who could fix my very expensive leather jacket was the tailor here - Mr. Oliva. 10 minutes and my jacket zipper was like new - repaired - he pried off the top little clips - rethreaded the teeth together - clamped the top little clips back on. After Nordstrom's was going to charge an arm and a leg for alterations on a maxi dress, I searched all over yelp for another alternative. Super happy to have found this place. Olivia's tailor shop was not only more affordable, but knew what they were doing (ex Nordstrom's was going to sew together the top of my dress and Olivia's added a snap)! Dress was ready exactly when they said it would be, and now fits like a glove. read more

I have used this shop before to have jeans hemmed. No big deal. They were a little off but nothing to draw concern. My fiance and I decided to have a little civil ceremony this year and a big wedding next year. we had a very little budget to work with. My original dress was ruined. But luckily a friend gifted me pretty Maggy by Suzi Chin dress. I wore a simple a line layered hem white dress. It was a consignment find and therefor not in mint condition, but it was still nicely constructed. I decided to have the hem shortened to the knee as I am 5'2" and it was a bit off. I dropped it off' at Olivia's the Monday a week before I was to be married and was told I could come pick it up on the following week on Tuesday afternoon, a day before my wedding. My boss graciously came home to take over so that I could drive the half hour it takes to get from 35th street on Tuesday afternoon, so that I could pick up my dress. I drove all the way up and it was still 30 minutes away from being ready! They offered to drop it off, which I considered awesome service, and a relief because there was no other way to get it. I paid the $48 to have the hem done (a little steep for a hem) and went back to work. My fiance agreed to wait at home to receive the dress. I came home after 5 and immediately tried it on. It was a disaster. The hem length was uneven on the entire dress. The right side was shorter than the left and none of the layers lined up. I was really upset but I didn't want a dress to ruin the day. I remained calm and then called first thing in the morning. They asked if I could come in as soon as they opened to have it fixed, again. I agreed but was already at work. I took the four year old and two year old I nanny for with me. It was a hassle but now more so. The kids were awesome as it was refitted. I then waited in the area for an hour and 45 minutes with hot tired children for the alterations to be completed. I took the dress, dropped off the kids, and drove home to get ready for my wedding. Even on the hanger the dress looked totally wonky still just a little more lined up in the layers. The right side of the hem is still crooked and about an inch shorter than the left. The hem and linings still did not line up. I wore the dress anyway because I am no bridezilla and a fit would have not done anyone any favors. i didn't have other options and there is no other time I would have worn a short white dress. My family over compensated with compliments, but it was still bothersome to me. I ended up changing into a sundress instead of staying in the dress for dinner and drinks. It definitely made me feel less bride like. read more

Very disappointed. Arrived at 3:45 after leaving work early to hit the road for a wedding only to be delayed because my dress wasn't ready. An hour later, I pick it up and it's too short! Not to mention the liner under the floor length dress was mid-calf? Really disappointed and not worth the $65. Plus no discount was offered for being late. This place is AWESOME! I needed my wedding dress hemmed and needed to have my topper taken in and they did an amazing job. My dress was ready on time and the tailor was super friendly and nice. He took the time to ask me exactly how I wanted the dress hemmed and explained to me why doing certain things would not be a great idea (unlike the other, MUCH more expensive tailor I had visited in town). I was quoted 3 times the price at the other tailor I visited. Olivia's did a great job with my dress and I am so glad to have found such a lovely shop! read more

I take everything there - the people are great and their work is perfection! My only complaint is that they don't take credit/debit, but at the reasonable prices they charge, it's only a minor invonvenience and I've learned to call ahead for my total so that I come with cash in hand! I took my dress here bc of the good reviews from yelp, and honestly did not have as great of an experience. It took over a week for my alteration ( easy hemming of a dress) to be done. I showed up about one hour before the quoted time the following week since I was already in the area, only to find out that he had not even started on my alteration. In addition, I ended up paying more than what was quoted. I like supporting local businesses, but my experience with Olivia's was just okay. read more

This mom and pops store is lovely. I always get treated with the utmost respect and professionalism. It is also a simply managed, humbly decorated place with excellent service. It can take a while to get things back, but that is solely because of the detail orientation and care with which they tailor garments. I wish there were more shops like these. read more

Initially a friend recommended another shop, but their turnaround was too long for my needs. Oliva's was excellent. I had an overcoat shortened, some suit pants raised, and another pair of suit pants tapered and raised. The work is excellent. The fit on those tapered pants is so good. Love this shop. read more

Mr. Oliva is a true tailor. This is not an alterations shop. Oliva is a craftsman who takes pride in his work, and his work is second to none. I've taken him complex suit jacket refittings and simple pant hems. I consult Oliva via phone when I'm in the store buying a new suit. He's that good. Oliva understands fashion. I never hesitate to tell him how I want to look, and he is an expert in guiding me where I want to go. Price-to-value is excellent. read more
