Since this place opened I have been coming here for a local hit of Greek/Mediterranean food. Nowadays I don't get here as often because we have moved to the Downtown area, but last night wife said, "let's go to Olive Branch"...and I'm like, yeah, it's worth the drive ITs a fairly small little family run restaurant with a great outdoor patio for eating this time of year. For a Wednesday night, they were cranking. The owner, a really nice friendly woman, was there running around and greeting everyone with a smile when you come in. I had my usual..the gyro salad. Fresh lettuce, tomato , onion, feta cheese and green pepper topped with an enormous amount of delicious gyro meat. At your table is a homemade salad dressing of oil, vinegar and a lot of herbs which is the perfect topper. There was not a bite left to be had when I was done. Wife made her own little platter of a couple falafel, some hummus, Peppercini, olives and of course pita. The hummus is so fresh and creamy you can tell its home made. The falafel was nice and well done with a crispy outside and soft center. I could eat this stuff all day long. The service is always friendly and helpful. And yeah you can go to Taziki and Zoe's but this is local, homemade, fresh and they can't do enough to help you. We had not been to Olive Branch since the Pandemic began. Our first experience was tremendous - out of this world and easily five stars. We tried it a week later and it was, surprisingly, "meh." So - we went there last week and it was, once again, meh. The waitress recommended the stuffed squash. It was rather bland, mostly rice, and I don't recommend it, especially for $20.99. There was hardly any chopped sirloin and you can't expect rice and squash to define the taste profile. The waitress also recommended the Philly cheese steak sandwich. Again - bland and not very exciting. The best thing about the meal was the frozen French fries. The mint tea - ok not great. The stuffed grape leaf - decent. The hummus - watery. There is nothing bad I can say about this place. It hs a dive restaurant feel to it, cool deck, great service and OUTSTANDING food!! Fresh and made to order, the plates (or Pyrex) were filled up with goodness! It has a real homey feel to it. I ordered the beef kabobs entree. I've been on the search for fantastic Greek food since moving to Birmingham and Olive Branch gave me "my fix." We went for a late lunch on a weekday, were quickly seated, and promptly served. The lunch special can't be beat. For less than $9, you get your choice of protein (gyro, chicken, kafta or falafel), rice, pita, hummus, and choice of Greek salad or tabbouleh. I'm an avid fan of gyro, so that was my choice. It was tender and flavorful, as was the rice and hummus. The pita and Greek salad were flavorful and fresh. Plus, the house made Greek dressing was the perfect touch for the salad. The servings were enormous and made for a great to-go plate (which made for some pretty amazing left overs). I was full, so had no room for desert, but I must admit I took a pistachio baklava to go....dee lish! I truly enjoyed our service from Kara (prompt, attentive, friendly, and engaging). She made it a lovely experience and left me wanting to return. I'm wondering how we have lived in Birmingham so long and not been here until this past weekend! It was only by chance that we went - we were getting sorbet with our little girl at Doodles and my husband smelled the food from here and wanted to pick up a couple things to have for dinner that night. I sure am glad that he did! He picked up the falafel plate, a side of lamb gyro meat, and baklava. The falafel plate came with veggies, hummus, and baba ghanoush. The falafel was some of the best I have ever had and the baba ghanoush was fresh and had chunks of eggplant in it. The hummus was also good but a little more watery than I like. The gyro was delicious! Lots of flavor - they have perfected this. I'm not sure I can ever order this anywhere else. Lastly, the baklava. My husband and I have been on the hunt for good baklava in Birmingham and we may have found it on Saturday night here. It was chewy and crunchy with the perfect honey sweetness and nutty flavor. I'd be surprised to find better baklava anywhere in Birmingham - including at the Greek festival! Don't make the mistake we made and wait a long time to come here - swing by soon! I keep hoping to find an amazing Mediterranean restaurant, but I just don't think it is going to happen. I ordered the chicken gyro and an appetizer platter. The platter came with hummus, falafel, baba ghanouj, feta and a few other salad things. The gyro was just okay. The falafel was good, and even a little spicy. The best thing was the hummus. Probably the best I have had in Birmingham. Unfortunately, I did not care for the bg at all. I realized when I got home, they gave me the wrong side. Recently, a friend asked if we could eat there, and I told him of my experience I had over a year ago where a friend and I had been seated at a small table near the front window; next to us was an empty table that seated four. As we were eating, five women came in, and the hostess took our meals and everything on our table and put them at another table that we did not want to sit at, without even asking us! Just to accommodate this five women so they could put the two tables together. Sloppy work when ordering in - make sure to double check your order. I handed the food out to the kids based on the sides while I drove to our eating location. By the time we arrived the kids had eaten the food and we discovered that our orders had been switched and the wrong sides had been assigned to the wrong plates, which left me with a very tame chicken gyro with no tomato. Hands down one of the best places to eat near The Summit. Cozy little spot in the winter, nice outdoor patio when it's warmer out. The food is by far some of the best Greek I have ever ate. Have been going here for several years, not sure why I did not review sooner. Prices are good, food is in nice portions and the entire staff is super friendly. If you have not been, go. It is fabulous and so worth it. It is a small location, but worth the wait if there is one. They close mid afternoon for a few hours and re open at 5pm. Never a bad meal in at least 8 years! Best stuffed squash ever! Let me start with the hummus though - I love hummus from just about anywhere, but the hummus at Olive Branch is top notch. It has a bit of a spicy tinge to it. Not sure what that is from, but it is amazing. I ordered the stuffed squash plate that comes with two grape leaves, greek salad, small hummus with pita and rice. The stuffed squash is the reason I keep coming back. I am not even sure if I can order it anywhere else in Birmingham. This plate is enough for two people or two meals in my opinion. The grape leaves are wonderful - just as good as the ones I get at the Lebanese/Middle Eastern food festivals every year. The squash is yellow summer squash with a rice and meat mixture stuff inside of it. I recently rolled into town hungry after a long drive from Atlanta and patiently waited a few moments on their sidewalk while they prepared for a 5 pm opening. After 2 minutes of waiting but still way before their technical opening hour, a kind young man asked if I wanted to place a to go order. I was surprised at this offer but he assured me it was no problem and cheerfully delivered dinner for four people to me before the restaurant moments after the restaurant opened. Love this place...moved here from South Florida few months ago. Olive Branch is better than any Mediterranean Restaurant in So Florida.

This was the first time eating here for my husband and I. It was suggested by a friend that has been. The waitress was really nice and fast. We got stuffed grape leaves (first time). They were surprisingly good. Very distinct taste. We would get them again. My husband got the gyro special with fries. The sauce was different cause we were expecting the tazaki sauce. It was really good though and the lamb was good as well. I got the gyro lunch special that came with hummus, pitas, and a side- I picked tabouli. I think I'd rather have a small side of that instead of a large portion and have a Greek salad instead. But I just topped a pita off with lamb, hummus, and tabouli with a piece of onion. Fascinating how such a small kitchen can kick out great food, but they've mastered it over the 15 years in business. Family business here and the care shows.
